When Jay is dumped by his long-term girlfriend Sadie on Valentine’s Day, he starts to understand that there are a few issues he needs to deal with deep within himself. He needs to be honest about who he is and what he needs to be. An afternoon walk along the beach turns into a surreal night of terror as Jay battles his personal demons. Maybe he can change. But first he needs to survive.
This is the second story in the Horrordays series.
This short story was absolutely fantastic. For any horror lovers out there, definitely give this a go! It was the perfect balance of gory, disturbing, really trippy in places which gave me Black Mirror vibes and made for a really interesting read. The writing flows so well and the author does an incredible job of creating a picture in the readers mind. I could see everything happening very vividly as I was reading which made for a few full body cringe moments. This isn’t one for the faint-hearted! The story was interesting from start to finish and I enjoyed the different levels to it which added greater depth including the main characters back story with his girlfriend. The character wasn’t particularly likeable but the author still made me root for him and the character development throughout was really well done, especially for such a short story! Amazing book!
As soon as I began to read this book I could not put it down.. I seriously wanted too as I don't usually read horror! The storyline immersed me into a chaotic roller coaster of emotions: suspense, horror, disgust and relief. At one point I thought I might vomit. For an author to achieve that in a short space of time is amazing...so we'll written!
Fast-paced, entertaining read. Lovely horror story, creepy setting, crazy shenannigans. The part where the slightly cooked protagonist stops to put on clothes might seem unrealistic but as a person who had third-degree burns and stopped to put on clothes, I must say he is both a believable protagonist and a bloody idiot.
Apparently I was sleeping on this one! Life just got away with me pleading for it to stop.
This short story is fantastic. It is perfect for those looking to dip their toes just a TAD bit further in the water when it comes to reading horror. It is definitely not a genre to sleep on OR underestimate.
I throughly enjoyed the rapid pace that the author set up for this story. It makes the reader feel as whoozy and confused as the MC. There’s a point in the story where they don’t know if the sky is up or down, blue or purple. Through clever tone and pace usage, you the reader feel the same way. You are placed in their shoes in the story.
This is such a quick read that it should get even the most stubborn readers out of a reading slump.
⚠️ TW: animal death, cannibalism, drug use, brief mentions of miscarriage ⚠️ This was such a trippy read that gives off creepily disturbing 90's horror vibes! This horror novella follows Jay and his long term girlfriend, Sadie, who are at a beach front hotel to celebrate Valentine's Day but unfortunately Sadie decides she can't be with him anymore and they split up over dinner. He knows they have had a treacherous relationship in recent years and as he begins to understand the issues that have caused their break up and the fact only he can change these things he decides to go for a walk along the beach to clear his mind. But little does he know that his afternoon walk will turn into a night of terror as he battles his own demons. This novella is written so cleverly and makes you so uneasy in parts. And despite Sadie and Jay not being very likeable characters, you couldn't help but feel for them both especially as the picture of what goes on during Jay's terror filled night starts to really come to light. Overall, this was a great quick read and if you are a horror fan I recommend giving it a go.
