The Throne of Lies

Rate this book
When people think of Saylor Adams,

They think of the boy whose life she ruined

The football superstar whose future was forever altered by a secret

A secret that followed him to his grave.

Dubbed a bad seed and a liar,

Saylor was the girl we warned our sons about

Back before she ran away amid a storm of rumors and accusations.

But when the girl who cried wolf returns, everything we thought we knew is shattered.

Shocking us with the knowledge that we turned a monster into a god

And made a villain out of his victim.

While some of us will search for redemption, others will seek revenge,

Unravelingthe lies that tore a family apart, revealing truths that could destroy us all

And falling in love?

Well, that might just be the biggest lie of all.

Please be advised that this book may cause shallow breathing, exploding ovaries, and spontaneous disintegration of panties. As a result, all readers should be over the age of 18 and refrain from reading in public places.

Trigger warning: This book contains violence, dark themes, and some scenes that readers may find uncomfortable. As with the previous books in the series, this story offers up multiple love interests meaning our leading lady gets to have her cake and eat it too.

This is an MC RH, with 1 heroine and 4 heroes. It's part of a series, but I hadn't read the other books, and I wasn't confused. It had the potential to be good - if it was 2 different books. But, mashed all together in the same book, it felt like there was WAY too much going on.

In the first story, the heroine, who is 20, is kind of in an FMF relationship – her best friends are married couple Presley and Tag. The heroine is sleeping with Tag (with Presley’s full consent and encouragement. And, Presley is usually in the room with them). Presley is unable to get pregnant, so the heroine has agreed to be their surrogate. She’ll be the baby’s aunt when its born, while Presley and Tag are its parents. It’s an unusual surrogate situation – since obviously, the surrogate doesn’t usually have sex with the baby’s father. But, it works for them.

Tragically, . So, the heroine and Tag end up finding comfort in each other, and becoming a family. I usually don’t like “hero has a dead wife” angst, but it was interesting here, because the heroine loved his wife, too.

This was all interesting and unique relationship stuff, and it would have made a good book on its own. An unusual and emotional romance about how the heroine and Tag came together after a tragedy, and made their own family.

BUT, this book combined that with a second plot line that had way more going on. And the combo of Tag’s story and the heroine’s story with 3 other men was awkward and didn't work.

In the second story (I'm calling it "second" to avoid confusion, but this book didn't divide up the plots, it just jumbled them all together), what I didn't mention about the heroine is that she is ALSO the a single mom of a 6 year old, at age 20. She had her daughter at age 14, when she was raped by an 18 year old football star in their town. At the time, nobody believed her, and her rapist’s rich parents paid off the cops and doctor who examined her to say that she lied. She got bullied in school for “falsely” accusing a football star, so she left town. But, now she’s back to sell her mom’s house.

The heroes are 3 guys in the local MC, including the older brother of her rapist. They come to threaten her when they hear that she’s back - because the brother believes that she lied. But, when he sees that she has a kid who looks like his brother, he realizes he got it wrong. He and his 2 MC brothers get into a relationship with her. (And, they have some setbacks when they learn about her surrogacy situation with Tag, react to it poorly, and have to grovel).

So, THAT could have also been an interesting, emotionally heavy RH book. Kind of similar to Unforgivable, where a heroine is wrongly accused, suffers, and then finds peace with 3 guys. But, combined with her surrogacy pregnancy plot line and her relationship with Tag and his wife, this thing with her past trauma AND these 3 MC guys made this story WAY too crowded.

None of these plot lines got enough depth or room to breathe. And I haven’t even mentioned that there’s also some “danger” plot stuff, like a kidnapping, etc.

So, all of this stuff should have either been 2 separate books – with separate heroines – or, it should have been a duet or a trilogy.

This is my favorite mc series of all time, so when Candice announced another book in this world I literally couldn't contain my excitement. Then when this hit my kindle a few days ago, I dropped everything to invest myself again in this world! And oh my goodness it's so good! I've read it twice already and it's crazy the things you miss the first time around! But omg, so good!

This book takes place at the vegas carnage chapter, which means yes, you get more Reign, Bates, Saint and Priest (plus everyone else!) We're also introduced to Saylor and all her men who will be her love interests. I don't want to give anything away -- especially with how vague CW has been herself-- but this book is gut wrenching. Saylor is a survivor on all levels and just when she thinks she's found her people, she's left out in the cold all over again. While dealing with the aftermath of more heartbreak, danger is still lurking around every corner, but will they all be safe? And if they do survive, what will be left of their hearts?

Man, this book hurt. Saylor is an amazing h, and I loved all the connections she made at the Vegas chapter. Her friendship with Reign and her men is so beautiful, and seeing her fall in love made my heart soar. There's one scene in particular however that just broke me down both times while I was reading (and when you get to it, you'll know) and although it took me some time to warm back up to a certain person again, he did do everything possible to make up for it. I don't know if I would have forgiven him, but I also understood why she did. Saylor deserves all the love, and seeing it all play out was just amazing!

I'm not trying to be confusing in this review, bit there's SO much that happens, and it all needs to be experienced first hand. You'll cry, feel your heart break, be filled with so much anger, rage and injustice, as well as all the sweet, swoony and even funny moments as well. This author has such a talent for blending it all perfectly together, and it was so good that I think this is tied with Reigns book as my favorite!! Plus that ending! Just perfection!!

I so hope Candice continues to write more in this series, but I am so glad she gave us more with this book! Please do yourselves a favor and one click once this goes live!

**i want to be clear, there's no cheating. The guys are all in once they meet Saylor, some are just more of an idiot than the others.🤣

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **

All of this was right up my alley until 20% in when h’s best friend shows up with her boyfriend and they have a threesome. Like no buildup, no hints that their relationship was anything other than friendship then bam the boyfriend is spanking the h and screwing h on the kitchen table. It was like throwing a bucket of ice water on the story for me. This is purely my personal preference- but I really dislike detailed sex scenes with others outside of our MCs even if it’s before they actually get together. Now, that scene taints the main relationship and I’m really bummed about it because it was soooo perfect up to that point.

I absolutely love the world that the author has created. This entire series is one of my favorites and she didn’t disappoint with this book. I was surprised when she announced she was releasing another book, but was so happy. This book has all of the elements that the author puts in her stories that make them so wonderful. I was once again brought into the world of Carnage. We meet Saylor, who has gone through so much in her life it is amazing that she has the outlook that she does. We also get to see more of Cass, Rome, and Ezra. The brothers of Carnage are all hot alpha men who love to share and appreciate their women. They know they are going to mess up at times and are man enough to know how to own it when they do. This author knows how to pack an emotional punch to her readers through her characters. She doesn’t shy away from the dark themes and the necessary actions to move the story along. But she always put their hearts back together after she wrings every emotion possible out of them. We have laughter, sorrow, grief, pain, spice, love, devotion, spice, and even more spice! While this could be read as a standalone, I strongly urge you to read the entire series and fall in love with the men and women of Carnage. You won’t be disappointed!

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️.5
1st person POV - mainly Saylor but also rotating chapters from her men

Tropes: MC, single mom, why choose, slow burn, interconnected standalone but you can just jump right in, available on KU

CANDICE WRIGHT HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! I seriously LOVE her Underestimated series (and Inheritance series, Ricochet (standalone but connected to Underestimated world) Phoenix Project Duet, Candy Shop Series) and this was no exception. I do want to start this off by saying - YOUR BODY YOUR CHOICE. Saylor is raped when she is 14 by an 18y/o football star golden child and no one believed her. She became pregnant and chose to move away and keep the baby. So reader beware, there are heavy discussions about her choosing this baby despite her origins. That said, it's clear in the writing that Saylor is pro-choice but just decided to keep her baby. The plot itself also felt different than the others. It wasn't so heavily based in the actual clubhouse like previous Inheritance books, but it felt like a different twist and something new to refresh the series.

When I say I am obsessed with this story, I am not exaggerating. CW's writing is always so gripping and you can't help but fall hard and fast into the stories she weaves. Some of the dialogue can be cheesy if you actually think about some of these things these men are saying, but hey, I feel like that happens if you overthink any dialogue in a high stakes/MC romance where everyone loves so hard.

This was different from her other Underestimated stories so far and I am here for it. To not spoil anything too much, I'll just say that I was happily surprised that Saylor didn't have to choose between the person who taught her that sex can be pleasurable and her new love interests at the local MC. The heart between Saylor and her found family feels so emotionally rewarding and I'm so happy she found peace and love.

Also, I know I have a shit ton of highlights for this book. I tried to weed them down but this book was just so damn good. I'll put some of my favorites below ☺️

I’m strong enough to withstand anything they throw at me, but if they start on my girl, I’ll destroy them all.

"You don’t mess with a girl and her books.”

I’d usually be all over that, herding her into the restroom so I could fuck her over the sinks until my order arrived, but no one has been able to get my dick to twitch since I first laid eyes on Saylor.
(this is the level of loyalty I need from my men in books)

She might have come from the darkest moment of my life, but she lights up my world more than a thousand suns ever could.

Although I’m ninety-nine percent sure I won’t need it, I’ll never be the girl who ignores the one percent anymore.

Bates drops into a squat and grips a handful of (redacted for mild spoiler)'s hair, twisting his head so he can his executioner. “As a brother, I’m ashamed. As a president, I’m angry. But as a father, I’m a vengeful motherfucker."

“You weren’t the wrong kid. They were the wrong parents."

"Love is chaotic. It's messy, painful, and causes more damage than a cat-five tornado. But with the storm comes peace and serenity and a feeling of being whole. Like pieces of a puzzle fitting together to complete a picture that would otherwise remain unfinished.”

“You can’t just come into my club and shoot (redacted for spoiler) in the face. That’s not your decision to make.” I pull myself free, stand up tall, and snarl. “My body, my babies, my fucking business. And for your information, I was aiming for his chest.”

If you choose to read this, I promise you won't regret it!

If you’ve previously read any of Candice’s Underestimated series, you’ll have a sense of what to expect from Throne of Lies. A deeply traumatised female lead, a trio of MC brothers who occasionally mis-step, but whose hearts are ultimately devoted to their Old Lady, and tears, lots and lots of tears.

The Throne of Lies begins with Saylor returning to her hometown, after the death of her last remaining family member. She’s been dreading this moment - six years previous, as a mere child, she left under a cloud of shame. A helpless victim of a violent rape, Saylor wasn’t believed then, and she suspects little will change the minds of those who drove her from her home. Including the older brother of her rapist, Cassius, now an MC member.

Together with twins, Rome and Ezra, Cassius strives to discover the truth behind his brother’s alleged misdeeds, even if it means hurting Saylor in the process.

Emotionally crushing in places, and blindingly hopeful in others. The Throne of Lies is a worthy addition to the outstanding Underestimated series.

Seriously this book had me swinging from wanting to drop kick my kindle with how angry it made me and then wanting to bawl my eyes out. It definitely took me on an emotional roller coaster. My heart broke for Saylor (FMC) in this book. she certainly went through the mill but it was her strength in the face of everything that she went through that made this book for me. Her daughter Nayvee was a much needed lightness in all of the darkness in this book. Her and the MC members were just so sweet! I liked Saylor's dynamic with Cass, Ezra and Rome even if at times i wanted to punch them out!

It was a hard read at times Ill be honest but its the heart of this book - Saylor, Nayvee and her guys that i loved and loved reading about

I can never get enough of this series. I have loved each and every book and the feisty heroines within them (ok! the hunky guys aren't too bad either!)
This book had all the action and suspense as the other 6 books and was beautifully written. Kings of Carnage rules!

Just Fantastic

I don’t know why, but Wright’s ability to elicit such a myriad of strong emotions with this series of interconnected storylines and relationships always takes me by surprise. These stubborn men will do something to tick me (and the FMC) off, leaving me sure I couldn’t get past it. Only to a few pages later rip my heart out with something gut-wrenching (or several somethings in this story’s case), before managing to take all that and weave together a love story that leaves the reader aching for more. It’s just fantastic. I don’t even really have words. Loved this installment and all the ones before it.

This book is the perfect example of why reading reviews isn't always the best way to gauge how you'll enjoy this book. With this author I tend to look at reviews first to see who the MMCs will be and sometimes what the story is about because I'm not a big fan of the way this author writes her blurbs. The review I read indicated that this book should have been two stories that were jumbled together, but I had no issues following the plots and I felt like the plotlines were blended together fairly well. My only real complaint is that I feel like we missed out on more time seeing Saylor interact with the four guys she ends up with.

To me, this book highlights just how complicated life and relationships can be. I liked that this story was different from the others. It wasn't just the FMC immediately gets claimed by the MMCs without her agreeing to being in relationship. Sure they claimed her like they do in the others, but their relationship developed at a different pace.

There are a lot of time jumps in this story. I didn't find it too hard to follow since the author does a decent job at indicating time as passed, but at the same time it felt like too much time passed without any progress. Some of these time leaps are 1-2 months at a time.

Overall, despite the minor issues I had over time jumps, I was all for this story and the plot. I liked Saylor's character (even if I wasn't big on her name or Nayvee's). The biggest reason why I took off a star on this book was because the ending felt rushed, it almost felt foggy/confusing to understand at times, there were several plot threads that I didn't get or we didn't get a proper explanation for, and Saylor's career choice felt very much like wish fulfillment instead of anything that really made a whole lot of sense to me.

I will say that I did enjoy the overall story. I loved seeing Saylor be a mama bear for Nayvee, her dedication and love for her daughter shows what a real mom should be. I cried a few times for Saylor in this story. Very well done and this is probably one of my favorites for the series.

Saylor came back to town simply to put her mother's affairs in order after her passing before she leaves the entire town and all the people in it behind her. But when her rapist's brother, Cassius, and his MC mates, Erza and Roman, bust into her home and demand to know why she has shown her face once more they are confronted with the irrefutable proof that all the claims she made against his brother was factual when they look into Saylor's daughter's eyes. They are the same as his own. Now Cassius realizes that everything he had ever known about the woman was a lie. She was a victim in everything and she continues to be the victim when his psychotic parents get wind of their grandchild and want to sue for custody. Saylor is caught between a rock and a hard place and only has the saving grace of her best friend and her husband to keep her sane. That is until a shooting takes away even the little bit of self-appointed family she had left. Now Saylor must find out how to keep her child out of the clutches of her rapist's parents, how to grieve the loss of one of her most cared for allies, and how to mitigate the troubled waters of her heart's desires, all while dodging someone who clearly has it out for her in the most deadly of ways. No pressure.

This book was decent but it did feel like it was just kinda tacked onto the end of the series to see if there was any more fanfare to be eked out of the following. Saylor was never mentioned in passing and Ezra and Roman were only seen maybe in one or two very small scenes of the series. Not enough to make there be any outcries for them to have their own book. Don't get me wrong there was some subject matter in this book that had never been touched on before, but it was still... just didn't feel like it fit. I felt like Mercy's book tied up loose ends and got rid of the biggest of the baddies that was plaguing the entire series to this point. Saylor just feels like one more random romance for Carnage. They're gonna run out of brothers eventually... especially when they are disappearing in triplicate.

Saylor was a decent enough character but nothing outstanding about her. Honestly, I didn't devour this book like I did the others. Even the ones I wasn't as fond of. It was just as decently written and the characters were just as well developed, I just think I had mentally wrapped things up in my mind with Mercy and struggled to reopen that door again. It was, however, a good opening for the spin-off series for the Candy Shop Girls which I am very excited to read.

Okay this one took me by surprise... it was actually really good and i couldn't stop reading. And i know myself good enough to know that that was because there was actual good groveling in this book, not once but twice!! Groveling is my addiction, so i thought this book was gonna get like 4 or even 5 stars from me, it certainly had the potential... and the sex scene with Saylor and Cass?!?! 10/10.

But then the mfc had to go and get together with Tag, her dead best friends husband, in the end of the book and it all just fell apart for me. It didn't make sense to me at all and it just made every character seem shallow. There was no room for character development since there suddenly was 4 male main characters to deal with and i ended up liking Bates more than every other character, which says a lot.
And what was the whole thing with her dead best friend pretending to be Saylor when she had sex with her husband Tag?!?! That's just really fucking creepy and made me really uncomfortable, especially since he then admits to be in love with Saylor after he told her all this weird ass shit. Like what the actual fuck, it just felt like a cheap plottwist that made the whole plot of Presley and Tag seem way more shallow and cheap than it could have been. It was just sad and stupid in my opinion to end the book that way and this really shines through in the last sexscene with Saylor and all the men. It's not sexy, hot, emotional, intimate or any other thing you might want in a sexscene between the main characters. It honestly just felt like watching a really bad porno with one girl and four men.

1. Seriously? Roman is a complete stranger to Saylor and he thinks that it’s funny to offer to show her his d1ck, knowing that she had been SA?
2. I admit it. I read these books for the grovel. This one had a great setup. Seven-ish years ago, the h was SA by the H’s brother; of course, the brother denied it. No one, including the h’s family believed her and the h was harassed and bullied until she had to leave town. When she came back temporarily to settle her mother’s estate, the H took two of his MC brothers and went to her house. He held her up against the wall by her throat while his brothers trashed her house, terrorizing her young daughter. At this point, I was looking forward to a huge a$$ grovel by the H and his brothers before she would have ANYTHING to do with him. Instead, two days later, the h and the H are having a conversation by text about the nature of trust and forgiveness. 🙄🙄🙄
3. Going behind Saylor’s back to get a DNA test and to have her investigated sounds like a really good way to earn her forgiveness.
4. When Saylor's best friend and her husband visit and all of a sudden, they start having a threesome in Saylor’s kitchen, I was done. 🙄

This was, by far, the most intense book in the Underestimated Series. This book totally gutted me in the best way possible. I couldn't put it down, reading far later into the night than I should have and finishing it in record time. I wish I could forget what I read, only to go back and read it again for the first time. It was utterly devastating and, oh so breathtaking, all at the same time. Gut-wrenching in its telling of Saylor's past, soul searing in the way she comes to terms with her life. I cried when I read this book. Tackling such a sensitive subject and hitting it straight face on, not pussy-footing around, the details make the story line that much more poignant. This was definitely my favourite book in the whole seven book series.

Saylor was only fourteen when she was brutally assaulted. No one believed her when she said she was r@ped, even her own mother began to turn against her. The parents of the so called good boy had everyone in their pocket and used that to their advantage. Poor Saylor didn't stand a chance. The town turned its back on her, ridiculing her, calling her a liar, bullying her and forcing her to leave the city for her own safety. She only came back to town six years later when her mother died and she had to sell the house that held nothing but bad memories for her. She had to bring her daughter with her and when they run into the wrong people, this brings a world of hurt and danger into their lives.
Cassius grew up with his younger brother, Chris, being the apple of his mother's eye, the one who could do no wrong. When his brother was accused of committing a crime, no one believed it of him. Cass and his family still couldn't get over the accusations when his brother died, the girl at the center of the debacle still being blamed for the death. Suddenly that girl is back in town and a whole can of worms are opened when she has a little girl with her that looks exactly like his brother. All Cass wants is to find out whether or not he has a niece but he doesn't handle it well. His methods backfire and cause Saylor and Nayvee to be thrust into his mother's face when she knows nothing about a granddaughter in the first place.
Saylor has enough brass to confront Cass at the Kings of Carnage MC clubhouse. This bravery garners the attention of his two club brothers, twin blood brothers Erza and Roman (Rome) who, along with Cass, decide that they want to get to know the firebrand who has enough moxie to stand up to Cass and got the blood pumping through all three of them. This is a journey that will be filled with events that entwine the four of them causing feelings of passion, hurt, distrust, betrayal, and eventually love.

This novel is not to be missed. This whole series is fabulous and I have loved being able to read this series again in preparation of The Throne of Lies being released. I can guarantee that I will be reading this book again because I can't get enough of this author's characters and the world she has created.

Complicated, Dark and Beautiful

This is the 7th book in a series of connected standalone novels. You don’t need to have read the previous books to understand this one, but you find it easier to understand the characters and their history if you do read them.

I’ve loved this series since the very first book and when I saw a new one was out I was giddy with anticipation. It was every bit as good as I hoped, and more.

Saylor is home to deal with the home left to her by her deceased mother. She hasn’t returned since she was 14 years old, when she left to save herself from bullying and the possibility of worse. She left because her mother didn’t want to protect her and stayed away after her father died. Living with her grandfather, she was able to deal after she gave birth to Nayvee, who is now 6 years old.

When Cass finds out that Saylor has returned, he is livid. He blames her, along with everyone else in town, for his younger brother’s death. He and his closest club brothers, twins Erza and Roman, head over to confront her about her presence and send her on her way again. What he finds there shocks him and his friends beyond belief.

The Kings of Carnage MC is set up a little differently from most clubs. They have a triad of club brother’s to one old lady to make sure she is always protected and cared for in the event of something happening to one of her men. It’s written into their by-laws. Cass, Erza and Roman have expected to become a triad for a long time, but they’ve never really found anyone they are all interested in, especially as they’ve not seriously been looking. Saylor knocks them all on their backsides.

This is such an intriguing and complicated plot that I could not stop reading it once I started. Once again this author kept me up until the wee hours of the morning, and I don’t care. Candice Wright creates such wonderfully rich and unexpected characters, that are still utterly believable and relatable. Saylor is a magnificent character who has suffered torments that have forged her into a strong and determined woman, who will do anything for her daughter and those she loves. At first glance to appears broken and weak but underneath it all runs a core of steel. She knows how to pick herself up off the ground and start again when she’s knocked down.

This is not a typical MC book and the romance aspect does not go the way you might think, but when it all unravels you can’t help but think it was the perfect resolution for these incredible characters.

There is quite a lot of darkness in this book, but it makes the sweet moments richer. By the end of the book I wanted to read it all over again so I’d understand how clever the author had been to set things up the way she did. Reading this book reminded me how much I love the rest of the series, so it might be time for a re-read. I have the feeling there is more to come in this series from a few hints in this book. I’ll have to wait patiently, knowing that the wait will be worth it.

RH MMM/MC/Insta-Love/Multi PoV

SYNOPSIS (standalone linked series of 8): The FC was raped when she was 14 after which the whole town turned against her thinking she cried rape. She was abandoned by her mother and she ended up going to live with her Grandfather where she gave birth to a boy. Six years later her mother and grandfather are dead as is her rapist and she has to go home to clear up her mother's affairs and face the town that ostracized her. There she comes face to face with the brother of her rapist and his 2 best friends who are all part of Carnage MC. Initially the brother believes what everyone else did which is that she cried rape and ruined his brother's life. He soon determines that to be a lie and helps her face up to the town and the "people who did her wrong". The book then covers the growing relationship between the FC and the 3MCs against a backdrop of apparent attacks on the MC.

Heat Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆🍆 The heat starts relatively early on with group and one on one scenes. They're hot, sweet and rough with no kink as well as being well written. There aren't so many that they take over the story but more add some heat and depth. There's no MM action, everything is focused on the FC. Ultimately the FC ends up with 4MCs.

This is a great series if you like MC books. I like MC books but the misogyny puts me off reading many of them🤬. This series, whilst still having some general misogyny, allows for a more feminist approach and strong women which really makes them work well allowing the reader to enjoy the MC world of hot, possessive, alpha men but without the disgust of how badly they usually treat women. The FCs are generally strong and feisty.

The books are generally well written and edited with minimal errors to interrupt the flow. They follow a relatively similar format with RH, strong FCs, humour, insta-attractions, drama, some graphic violence and HEAs. I definitely have my favourites of the series and my favourite FCs/MCs. This is not my favourite but is still an enjoyable read.

The MCs are all strong and individual with an FC who has gone through a horrific rape with an aftermath of her being disbelieved, called a liar and bullied so badly that she has to leave town. It makes for a sickening read. There's some graphic violence where the baddies get their comeuppance and some angst with the FC's story as well as some tearjerking drama. The author doesn't pull her punches with what her characters go through. Having said that the rape is told in retrospect and the FC has already overcome her main trauma by the time she comes back to town so this is not a story of healing for the FC but more how she builds a relationship with the MCs and moves on with her life.

There's a surrogacy sub-storyline which links to the FC having a triad relationship with her best friend and her husband which adds a different element to the story. Personally it didn't really work for me and it felt a bit like a tag on to the main story to add additional drama. Whilst all of the books in this series are insta-attraction this one felt even more so especially bearing in mind the FC's history and for me, felt a bit rushed and as if the relationship development was glossed over too much.

Overall a good read with heat, drama and strong, engaging characters.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

When people think of Saylor Adams, they think of the boy whose life she ruined. The football superstar whose future was forever altered by a secret. A secret that followed him to his grave.. Dubbed a bad seed and a lair, Saylor was a girl we warned our sons about. Back before she ran away amid a storm of rumors and accusations. But when the girl who cried wolf returns, everything we thought we knew is shattered. Shocking us with the knowledge that we turned a monster into a god. And made a villain out of his victim. While some of use will search for redemption, others will seek revenge. Unraveling the lies that tore a family apart, revealing truths that could destroy us all. And falling in love? Well, that might be the biggest lie of all.

This is a dark romance. You will need to heed the triggers in the beginning of the book because it will contain some triggers for some readers. If you have been reading this series then you know what you are diving in to. If you again, please heed the warnings.
Saylor had not intention of ever returning to the place that destroyed her life. However she has to come back now that her mother is gone to settle her estate. She just never really expected to have to deal with old and very painful wounds. After all if everyone in town including your mother had basically shunned you, wouldn't you be leaving that place and not returning. But the time has come to deal with the old parts of her life and it is time for her to finally have her chance to tell the story that people in town think they know but actually do not know the entire story. That's about all I can tell you or I am going to get into things that you don't want to know really or they would be a spoiler. However I really devoured this book. There was not a thing that I didn't love about this book. Saylor is a super strong female character and I loved that about her. There are also quiet a few kindle melting moments in this book and I just have to say that the men are always so smoking hot in this series and the same can be said for this book. I went into this book blind and I think that is the best way to go so you get the full experience of reading this book. And trust me it is an experience.

Reverse Harem, Hot alpha MC twins, enemies to lovers…what else do you need? Maybe a little suspense? Because this book had it all…

The Throne of Lies is the 7th book in the Underestimated series and probably one of my favorites in the series. You don’t have to read all the books, but it would really help knowing the backstory of the other characters that are from the MC. It was a great story about overcoming serious past trauma and showing you what happens when you underestimate a mother’s love in both positive and negative ways, and the catalyst that can ensue. Throughout the story you are watching the characters grow and heal all while trying to figure out who is killing people and why? I started to have a feeling of who was behind the shootings but honestly you don't have a real answer until the end and it was nuts!

This story follows Saylor and her group of men, Ezra, Cassius, Roman, and another guy that I don’t want to spoil for you. When Saylor is still a young teen, she is practically run out of the town she grew up in with the intentions of never returning; but unfortunately, fate has other plans. When she is forced to return, she quickly comes face to face with the past she never wanted to see again. And, that is where we meet the three guys of Carnage. Did I mention there are twins?! They start out as true enemies setting events in place that uncover major truths, making certain characters question everything they thought they knew and forcing them to face the actions of the many realities that women face at the hands of men throughout life. The characters in this story go through serious ups and downs, but Saylor stays true throughout the book. I loved that there was none of the miscommunication trope when it came to her character. Saylor overcomes so much in this book from her past and in her present that you can't help but respect her character. She shows so much grace and kindness when she is shown so little by people that claim to care for her. I absolutely loved Saylor’s take no crap attitude, making her the perfect fit for this group of MC brothers. I have really liked this series as a whole. The author navigated some very heavy issues in a beautiful way. She brought to light things that many women go through in terms of SA and ways they cope with their situation, and how clueless men can be when it comes to the things women endure simply by being a woman in a man’s world.

At first I thought I was going to hate this one, as it started off in a way I was almost certain I wouldn't like. But then everything changed. And SO much happened. Far beyond what I expected to happen. I can't explain it without it all being spoilery, but I really liked ALL of the relationships in this story, no matter how unconventional. I'm not even mad that we didn't get a lot of time to focus deeper on each relationship (although it would have been nice to have that too), because there was so much happening here. The only thing I wish we got was more time to see their HEA with all of them together, since some of the relationships developed fully much later into the book. I really think that robbed us of a complete story for these guys.

I haven't read any other books in the series, but from the first half of the book, I was convinced I never would....and then I ended up really liking everyone, including side characters I had previously decided I didn't like because of comments they had made. They all made me change my mind by the end.

Bottom line: this book was not at all what I thought it would be about, but at the same time it kind of was, but with ✨more.✨ I really liked it, and just wish we had more of all of them happily together after all the horrible things they went through.

Also I felt one person's death was glossed over because of a time skip, which was sad. The end result of the characters working through their grief was beautiful, but I wish we had seen more of it on page instead of in a quick few sentences of past tense summary.

••• Edit WITH SPOILER:
The reason I added the dubcon tag is because a character the FMC is in love with joins a group sex activity and enters her without letting her know it's him until the end. She's happy about it, but he didn't know for sure if she would be, despite them having had sex in the past. Just wanted to tag it as a reminder for myself when I recommend this book.
Also there is no cheating in this book, but there is a couple in an open marriage who have a beautiful relationship with the FMC, who is also their intended surrogate.

This book… this freaking book. It was absolutely amazing! It gives you all the emotions. Happiness, sadness, anger, joy, total heartbreak and hopefulness, it gives it all to you. This book deals with some really hard hitting subjects that might trigger some people so please check the triggers!
I absolutely love Saylor 🖤 she is so strong for what she has been through. The love she has for Nayvee is like no other. After everything she went through to still love her daughter will all she has is so beautiful. Going back to a town that destroyed you completely with your head help high knowing you didn’t deserve it shows so much strength.
Cass, Rome and Ezra came in guns blazing and really made me want to throat punch them. But once they saw Nayvee they changed so completely. Then they learned the truth about what happened and really showed up for Saylor and Nayvee.
Everything is looking up and going so well and then you get absolutely destroyed. So much happens that it leaves you Completely and utterly heartbroken. When you think it can’t get worse it proved you wrong 😭😭
Things start to take a turn for the better and then Tag drops a bomb on Saylor and while I was floored I also love Tag so much. He was there for Saylor and Nayvee and never judged. He and Presley showed Saylor that not every experience is painful. They showed her what love was. But it also leaves you so torn because of Cass, Rome and Ezra. They may have hurt Saylor but they are also showing her their love and proving that they are sorry by actions and not just words.
This book slowly starts to mend your broken heart. Only to shatter it all over again.
This story is one with so much heart break and tragedy but the beauty that comes from this story is like no other. This story puts you through it but boy is it worth it all for that ending.

“You do have to make a choice eventually. You’re standing in the wreckage, hoping for a different outcome, but you can’t go back. Only forward. You have to choose if you want to play in the ruins or rebuild the foundations so that they are stronger than before.”

One of my top reasons for loving the Underestimated series by @authorcandicewright is the fact that it’s filled with strong and empowering women. Their stories are incredibly brutal and raw, but it’s beautiful to see them become stronger because of their experiences and powering through life.

This is one of those quotes out of the many that spoke to me from THE THRONE OF LIES. I cannot even begin to express how much Saylor’s story meant to me. And another quote that has left me contemplating a lot is:

“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞. 𝐈𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨. 𝐈’𝐦 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭-𝐢𝐟𝐬.”

This book made it into my top faves of the year. While it’s not perfect, especially with the insta-love/insta-lust (it’s an MC world after all), the story as a whole and the characters will forever stick with me; I’m in love with every single one of them. Their stories continue to give me hope and help me to channel their badass and strong energy when I don’t feel strong enough. I’ll forever be grateful to Candice for writing this series. ❤️

Saylor, Tag, Cass, Roman, Erza

I enjoyed the setup more on this with the variety of plotlines changing up a bit. BUT, I'll just say if I'd been in Saylors shoes I would have dumped the three dufus' and stuck with Tag. He was the keeper not the dunderheads who assumed they knew everything. They didn't just do that once they did it multiple times and at some point she should realize trusting them with her heart was just plain stupid.

I knew from the get-go it was the parents and I'm not sure how the others didn't put it together. The variety of attacks and the fact that other people were hurt made a bit more believeable but still.

Finally, after all the previous books having alpha women of the highest order who were more bad-ass then all the shithead MC men it was nice to have a woman not having a pissing contest with them. But... there are a few issues I had with the ending. They knew Tracks was assigned to watch her but yet she gets stabbed when he's supposed to be her guard. Then he helps the mom get ahold her AGAIN and she doesn't tell anyone or they don't think to wonder how that happened.

That Saylor didn't say anything to all those men while in the hospital, meanwhile her daughter is in the MC house being 'guarded' by the club is just bullshit. She would have told the group immediately that he had betrayed them and the little scene with her getting vengeance wouldn't have been played out like it did which in my opinion wasn't even necessary. She should have had the vengeance on the mom not the club member.

Just my overall take, I'd rather she ended up with Tag and Tate. The other three didn't deserve her and the connections between the three with her weren't explored enough to explain (other than lust/sexual attraction) her need of them in her life.

The Throne Of Lies (Underestimated #7) by Candice Wright. Oh my my my my! I love this author's series. This story was one for the books. Saylor had no intention of ever coming back to the place that destroyed her life but when she has to return to settle her mother's estate she finds herself having to deal with all her old wounds. She left being shunned by everyone in the town even her own mother. Her being back has re-opened up a story that was never fully told. This story is the truth finally coming to light and the lies that were told finally being revealed. I don't want  to give away any of this story because I want the reader to enjoy this story as it unfolds. I will leave you with a few bread crumbs. If you have read her previous books in this series than you know the author is all about women empowerment. If you haven't read the previous books you need to. Good stuff! Her male character are sexy as sin and can bring any woman to her knees. And lastly there be plenty of hot sex. Just know that once everything comes to the light and it all unfolds, what really happened to Saylor will set into motion a set of events that had me on the edge. I didn't get much sleep and the emotional rollercoaster ride I was taken on left my head spinning. This series is everything and I definitely would love to reread the whole series again. Oh, we were also left with a little treat at the end. Hold on, buckle up and get ready for one exception reading ride. This story was like an onion. It had so many layers that at times I felt like crying. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. Where can this author take me next in this series. Wherever it is I will be going !

I should know by now that any book I read in this series is going to throw me into an emotional hurricane. I mean I love it, I love every page of it, its phenomenal . The book hangover is pretty strong too. This was really well done. The plot is thick and full of twists and turns, the drama, the suspense, the steam! * chef kiss* Candice is really really good at pulling you in with realistic , relatable characters, facing real world, terrifying , personal and heart wrenching problems where whatever her characters are feeling, you feel right along with them. I love that we get to see her characters face adversity and pull themselves up on the ground, I love watching them find their strength in themselves and the people they let into their lives. Her books play out like a movie in my head- they are so well laid out, the descriptions and attention to detail makes it so easy to “see” it all. These characters had me feeling everything from sorrow to happiness. I laughed with Saylor and I bawled with Saylor. I raged with Saylor and I cheered her on. This story was just amazing. Saylors journey was not an easy one and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her growth through this book. Her relationships with the men of the MC were complicated and fraught with danger in many different ways, yet she persevered and prevailed . Honestly I could keep going on and on about everything I loved about this book, but you should just read it. You need to binge read the entire series and remember to have some tissues and wine ready.
