Veritas isn’t done with Ava Locke, and they’re not holding back.
More allegations are piled on top of Ava while she remains on the run. But time is running out for her and her reputation. Is there still a way to salvage what was lost?
Ava is backed into a corner, and she’s forced to face all her enemies and fears. All alone and with no one to turn to for help, how can Ava navigate her way through the city and find the answers she had been looking for to get rid of Veritas once and for all?
Author Clara Lewis has always been an avid fan of mysteries. As a child, she devoured the “Nancy Drew” and “Hardy Boys” series’s, which inspired her desire to write her own mystery thrillers. Though Clara’s journey took her in several different directions, she eventually published her debut series early in 2021.
Besides spending her time creating vast worlds and convoluted mysteries for her readers to divulge in, Lewis spends her time at her home in Portland, Oregon. As a mother and wife, she wears many hats, and can often be found baking and crocheting.
Lewis always had a passion for creating, and she wants nothing more than to provide the same thrills she loves to her readers. She loves to read (and smell) books just as much as she loves to write them! She has several projects in the works, and can’t wait to share them with her audience.
So, Ava continues her downfall, under Veritas's blows - new accusations of murder. After Ellie being kidnapped, she goes to the precinct, to face a phone call from the vigolante group, ends the day back in the cell, survives a muder attempt on her over the night, and ... the mini novel ends with her as guest of Veritas boss, as part of her pretended decision to join this group. And with her first task as that - to kill Oscar, her colleague and probably her best friend. Cortin down, and we'll see in the next episode if she shot in him, or at him and missed :-)
On the run and without many resources, our heroine is severely challenged in her efforts to clear her name. This might just be the end of her career, if not her life as well.
This is book eleven of the series, and the fifth book in the second story arc. I recommend starting at the beginning of the arc (if not the beginning of the series).
The story is a police detective mystery. The story is well written and easy to read while done as a serial, so each book will build on the last during this arc. We get a nice setting and intriguing characters which is always a big plus. The plot moves at a good pace and includes plenty of action and intrigue to keep it moving. All other the elements combined for a quick and fun read which definitely left me reaching for the next book.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.
Detective Ava Locke is still on the run while Veritas is still after her. Will she ever get her life back? Will the other detectives ever believe her again? She goes through so much you keep wondering how can she continue to handle it all, and will she be able to prove her innocence. Oscar her partner seems to be the only one to believe that she didn’t commit the murder she’s being accused for. She wonders if she will ever defend Veritas, or will she be killed eventually by them. Then everything changes in a big unbelievable way for her. The ending is heart stopping. Makes you wish the next book was out today.
Ava Locke is on the run and Veritas is still running the show, framing Ava for crimes she did not commit. With no one to trust, she has to face her fears and try to outsmart them. This is an action packed story that keeps your heart pounding until the final page. I would highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This is an absolutely fantastic book, Clara Lewis is a fantastic author. These books are fabuloso. Ava Locke is in trouble and it's called Veritas and they want her dead or theirs and she has absolutely no chance of argument.
Ava is hiding from her fellow officer and Varitas. She is injured but not able to rest. Oscar helps er bit he too could be in.danger.Varitas is able to get to her using her niece Ellie. This is a thrilling and nail biting read . I recommend this book to other readers.
Full of excitement and intrigue swirling around Ava. Interesting twist and ending to the story. Ava had to make a choice, and she did. Ready for finale.
This is book 11 of the Detective Ava Locke Series. Veritas has been killing people. They use people and then get rid of them when they are no longer needed. Ava was framed for murder and put in jail. The same jail where she works. She suspects that there are unethical officers there working with Veritas and she trusts only her partner Oscar and Mark. Ava is now at a turning point after being jailed again and is given an ultimatum. A deadly ultimatum…. The ending is a cliffhanger. I need more! I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
