Very helpful in a practical way (concrete items your family will be so glad you have done, etc.) but also in a spiritually encouraging way. I read it on Hoopla, but I plan to get a copy for myself to refer back to.
As I prepare to meet Jesus face to face, I am taking necessary time and actions to do so decently and in order as my heavenly Father has instructed us to run this race he has assigned. This book is a great help with the thoughts during the process.
This is an inspirational and well written book that can be a good spiritual and emotional preparation for the latter years of our life. It has one core evangelical message: Knowing Jesus Christ as our Savior allows us to approach death without fear, since it is not the end. That message is repeated over and over throughout the book, with lots of stories and anecdotes.
There is very little here on end of life planning other than the obvious need for a will, power of attorney, advanced directive, etc.. And the recommendations for having an attorney and financial planner lined up may not necessary or relevant for everyone. Nor is there really anything about end of life medicine -- for that I highly recommend Being Mortal by Atul Gawande.
I don't mean to disparage the book -- it's an uplifting and encouraging devotional for Christians. But those looking for a practical guide for end of life planning may want to look for another book.
"God's people should plan for a voyage of a thousand years, but be prepared to abandon ship tonight." Joseph Bayly.
What a hard book to read! Easily in my top 5 out of 240 books read so far this year; can't think of any on my list that will knock it off.
After losing 10 loved ones in 10 years, current cancer, comas, incurable illnesses, and locked-in-syndrome in immediate family members, and writing my own will and Trust before my unattended home birth, this book should be mandatory reading to prepare humans for all of our inevitable future.
To God be the glory, our only hope in life and death.
Valuable resource for end-of-life issues. Hard book to read when you don't want to think about your own mortality, but critical especially to cement your decision to follow Christ. Eternity is forever and no one wants to spend it in hell. Please be ready. '
