To the Girl Looking for More: 90 Devotions to Help You Ditch the Lies, Love Yourself, and Live Big for God

Rate this book
In this 90-day devotional for young women, Grace Valentine encourages you to stop settling for the world's image of post-worthy perfection and live for more: more joy, more peace, and more meaning.

Grace has felt the pressure of our culture's conflicting messages about girls and God, from the picture-perfect “good Christian girl” that toxic culture touts or the God who treats women like sidekicks or after-thoughts. For any girl tired of the lies and expectations, Grace has a message for you: you are important to God, and He has so much more for your life.

In her first devotional, Grace shares the lessons she has learned through her own challenges and guides you to discover your true identity and self-worth in the eyes of your Creator.

In these 90 daily devotions, Grace breaks down the truth of Scripture with her genuine, been-there honesty that has made her a role model for young women. She shows girls of all ages how to

stop hustling to please, perform, and be perfect
recognize toxic relationships and leave them
let go of impossible expectations on yourself, your people, and your body
replace worry, pressure, and fear with God's peace
choose kindness and positivity
navigate all the mixed messages around sex and dating
live out God's amazing plans for your life
"I get it. You're busy! But stop trying to just get through another week, and grab this devotional. Five minutes a day will help you discover how to live your MORE. You deserve this, sister!” —Grace Valentine

I'm not generally a fan of devotional books, especially ones for young girls. They are often cheesy, preachy, and predictable. I look at the covers of books parents undoubtedly buy for their daughters, and think, "why would they want to read this?" This one is different. Right away, the cover and format draw you in. Open it up and you will not see small, boring looking print. Is this important? Yes, because content doesn't matter if no one will read it.

In this book by Grace Valentine ( who I never heard of but apparently has quite the following), there are 90 days worth of readings that start with a bible verse and are titled, " to the girl..." A few examples: " To the Girl seeking purpose," "To the Girl Feeling Like a Disappointment, " " To the Girl Struggling with Mental Health," "To the Girl Discerning Her Next Move, " etc. Each day contains an anecdote from Grace's life.

At first, I was disappointed as I often am with devotional books by there being just one Bible verse and then paragraphs of the author's own words. But as I read on, it is clear that Grace's words are 100% Jesus-focused. Although many of the days deal with topics about what might seem insignificant (grades, gossip, etc), Grace drops some pretty intensely personal stories about her life experiences. I was surprised at the depth of her honesty in some places. This will undoubtedly resonate with many readers. Through it all, readers are continually directed to Jesus, and her love of Him is clear.

This is a very readable devotional which will meet girls where they are. I would say it is powerful. Each day ends with prayer relevant to the day's topic. Throughout the book, which is separated into topics like, "More Peace," "More Self-worth," "More Purpose," "More Jesus," etc., there are breaks with short reminders about truths from the previous pages. While the book is geared toward young ladies, the truths are true at any age. I would highly recommend it.

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. #sponsored.

To the Girl Looking For More by Grace Valentine is a 90 day devotional filled with topics such as purpose, self-worth, contentment, love, peace and joy. Each day begins with a scripture reading, wisdom from the author, and ends with a prayer. All of the topics end with valuable thoughts and a summary..

This is a great book. The pages are beautiful and very inviting. I love how the book is set up where you can read each devotional in order, or choose a topic to explore and jump around. The author does a wonderful job sharing her heart and speaking wisdom and truth to the reader. She is very relatable and understands what it is like to be a young woman today. It is liking sitting down to have coffee with a friend who cares about you.

I had my daughters ( 17 and 14) look through it, and they enjoyed it. They felt like the book was different from the usual girl devotions and was very relevant to young women today. We are excited to explore it together. I recommend this book.

I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a positive review.

I love devotional, but this one in particular just hit different.
In this book, there are 90 days worth of readings that start with a bible verse and are titled, "to the girl..." A few examples: " To the Girl seeking purpose," "To the Girl Struggling With Mental Health”, etc. As someone who struggles with mental health, I especially loved that one! it is clear that Grace's words are 100% Jesus-focused, they’re not all about her or what she can necessarily get out of this, as she always points it back to Jesus.
Grace shows girls of all ages how to stop hustling to please, perform, and be perfect, how to recognize toxic relationships and leave them. (AMEN!), how to let go of impossible expectations on yourself, your people, and your body. How to replace worry, pressure, and fear with God's peace (again, AMEN FOR THAT!)
How to ALWAYS choose kindness and positivity, even in the hard times & how to ultimately live out God's amazing plans for your life. His are always better than ours.

This helpful resource can be used as a devotional or can be read straight through. The book is divided into sections relating to issues and concerns that girls deal with on a daily basis. The sections are short in length and easy to read, and there are helpful questions asked throughout the book that help the reader reflect on her life and motivations. I believe this book can be useful and encouraging because it is based on solid truths and good reminders from the Bible. I recommend this book to teenage girls and young women who are looking for encouragement and guidance, to their parents, and to anyone who may work with them in a church setting or otherwise.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. A positive review was not required, and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

To The Girl Looking For More is a phenomenal devotional!! I am the type of person who picks up devotionals and do every day journals with good intentions, but rarely follow through. Eventually they just start to feel repetitive. This book is not!! It digs deep and instead of leaving the reader feeling like a better version of themselves often a "perfect version" is unobtainable the reader is inspired. Grace does not make herself out to be perfect which is the secret sauce that makes this devotional stick! I loved it!

I cannot say enough good things about this devotion. It was raw, it was relatable, it was realistic, and overall so inspirational. Grace does an amazing job using her personal experiences to relate to readers and make them feel like they aren’t alone/shouldn’t be ashamed of anything. This devotion is truly empowering and I think it would be beneficial to Christian females of all ages!!!
