Thank you to the publisher for providing me a copy of Surrender Your Story in return for an honest review #goodreadsgiveaways!

I found this book to contain a lot of good, practical advice for getting out of a spiritual rut, and how to truly grow as a follower of Jesus.

My only issue with the book was that at times the language was sometimes overly casual with little bits of extra commentary/parenthesis. I’m sure that was meant to be more conversational or to attract a younger crowd but I don’t think it was necessary.

Overall, a motivating read!

Thank you NetGalley for this gifted book!*

Synopsis: “If you’re weary, frustrated, and disappointed by your attempts to control your own story and you’re ready to try the better way— then this book is for you.” With hopes of and dreams planned out and ready to go, Tara Sun was ready to take on the world. But her detailed plans all came crashing down one day with severe symptoms and a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. God had another plan for her life. Another story to write. In her book, Surrender Your Story, you’ll discover Tara’s story and how God redirected her path and taught her that his way is best. It’s filled with biblical truth, solid advice, and lots of practical application! You too can surrender your story to the one who knows you and loves you best of all.

Analysis: I think Tara tackles a subject that is not often talked about in our world today. So many people have plans or at least ideas of what they want life to look like. Maybe that means college, maybe a family, maybe a great career. But what happens when those don’t go like you thought they would? It’s HARD to surrender our plans to God’s. Tara goes back to the basics of Scripture and helps young people start building a foundation for their Christian faith. You’ll find tips on Bible study, prayer, and many other spiritual disciplines. I would highly recommend this one to a young adult audience or those that just need reminding of God’s good and faithful character.

A book all anxious people should read. I have found so much peace by applying advice from this book to my life. I read it at a time when I most needed it. And the best part, it all pointed me back to Jesus. He's the one we must keep our eyes on as we run this race. My biggest takeaway would be this: take up your cross daily, deny yourself and follow Him. That's what a life of surrender looks like and it's easier than it sounds.

I highly recommend this book.

In Surrender Your Story through Nelson Books, Thomas Nelson and Netgalley:

In Surrender Your Story popular podcaster and self acclaimed control freak points out that today's culture is peddling a seductive promise, a message that bombards social media feeds and dominates bestseller lists: you can control your circumstances and achieve any goal through positive thinking, organization, and sheer force of will.

Anyone who has to white-knuckle their way to self-fulfillment has discovered what lies on the other side of this supposedly empowering message: frustration, disappointment, and exhaustion.

Tara understands what it is like to be obsessed with control, all under the guise of the supposed virtues of being self-sufficient, organized, and high achieving. When a battle with severe chronic illness demolished her illusions of control.

Tara embarked on a journey of discovering the antidote to the burdensome and ultimately empty myth of control: surrender to the God who cares for us and has an infinitely better blueprint for a life filled with joy, peace, and meaning.

In Surrender Your Story readers will learn how to identify how the false promises of control and self-sufficiency have warped their view of themselves, their hopes, and their purpose; learn to trust God--in the big events and the small details of their lives; discover practical steps and strategies for letting go of control and moving forward in faith, even in the face of setbacks and disappointments; and be inspired by examples from Tara's life and from the Bible of the strength and purpose that comes through a lifestyle of surrender.

I give Surrender Your Story five out of five stars!

I loved this book, although it wasn't exactly what I had expected it to be, There was a lot of testimony in this book, which I found comforting, it is nice to know that I am not the only one who feels a certain way or who struggles with certain things.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I was unfamiliar with podcaster and author Tara Sun before reading Surrender Your Story, but I can now see why she would be so popular. Her story lays the foundation for a call to change for those who find themselves overwhelmed by unmet expectations, pressure to be real-life superheroes, and slaves to perfect social media lives.

You might not think a 23-year-old would have a compelling story about ditching the myth of control and discovering freedom in trusting God, but Ms. Sun’s life is packed with challenges and she’s living proof of what it means and what it takes to surrender it all over to God.

Sun admits she hasn’t perfected relinquishing control, which makes her all the more relatable. The impressive examples she shares of her relationship with God show the beautiful and distinct communication we can expect from God when we truly open ourselves to Him and listen to His voice.

I appreciated that Ms. Sun acknowledged the difficulty of understanding the concept of the Holy Spirit and discussed the importance of His role in our lives. I enjoyed hearing about her life’s journey in (eventual) obedience to God as well as the actionable steps Sun laid out to guide readers to a fulfilling life surrendered to Christ.

Who would benefit from this book:
Anyone struggling under the weight and pressure of perfection or the societal challenge to “do it all” would definitely benefit from reading this book. If you’re looking to deepen your relationship with God, Surrender Your Story will help you get started.

If you're frustrated with God's timing, or trying to figure out his plans for your life, Surrender Your Story is for you.

Tara shares her personal story of how she struggled to surrender her plans & timing to God, and how she trusted God even when her prayers remained unanswered. Each chapter provides an in-depth look at scriptures and stories from the Bible which helped provide more understanding & revelations with each topic. Since Tara does weave in her personal stories in the book, I recommend this book for young women in their 20s or even teens.

My favorite chapter was chapter 6, where Tara talks about understanding God's will. She raises the question that so many of us have asked God in times of frustration, "Why was God's will so ridiculously hard to figure out? If it's so important to our lives, then why didn't He make it more obvious?"

In Surrender Your Story, Tara addresses the questions we're afraid to admit we ask God when we are frustrated or doubting whether He knows best for us.

Overall, I recommend this book for any woman who is struggling to trust God's plans and timing for her life. Thank you Tara for sharing your story, and for providing so much scripture from the Bible to help us discover our own story that God is writing for us!

This book is absolutely wonderful and another beautifully written book the Lord has placed in my life at a time I need it the most. I have loved watching Tara share God’s word, truth, and her everyday life on social media! Tara is so vulnerable and honest, and I am so thankful to be able to listen to her share her personal life experiences and encouragement in growing closer with the Lord and trusting in his perfect timing for our lives! Knowing there is beauty and grace in every season, letting go of control and gaining PATIENCE ( which is something I’m still working on everyday haha! ), giving it to God and learning whatever God’s will for our lives is wonderful, even if we are in a rough patch , knowing he is faithful and ultimately loves us and cares for us as our father in heaven. This book encourages the faint hearted to know that even in the unknowns and uncertainty, we can have ultimate peace through Gods word. I loved listening to this via Audiobook, as hearing her open up about her testimony was like listening with a friend at a coffee shop, so light hearted, engaging, and sweet just like she is in her podcast! <3 this is so great for the Easter season! Thank you Tara for writing this book. Thank you for sharing your story! :)

The title of this book immediately caught my eye. I knew that I needed to read it. When I started chapter one, I was in it until the end. One of my favorite parts about how this book is written are the questions for reflection at the end of each chapter. They allow you to explore your own path to surrendering to God. I found the questions to be very helpful and not overwhelming. They were something I could do in less than 15 minutes. I actually decided to devote part of my journal to my answers so that I could have them all in one place.

I found myself highlighting or bookmarking something on almost every page. While I don't consider this a Bible study, the journey Tara takes the reader on is biblically sound and full of Truth. I could hear the Holy Spirit working through Tara's writing and encouraging me to look at my own relationship with Christ and grow closer to Him.

I would happily gift this book to a sister in Christ to help her on her own spiritual journey!

Thank you NetGalley and Nelson Books for sending this electronic book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

“Even if it was not a part of our plan, it was a part of God’s all along.”

I absolutely loved this book! I love Christian non-fiction books where you feel like you’re just talking with the author (but not in an over the top way), and this book is just that. Tara is vulnerable and writes in a way that feels approachable while also pointing directly back to the Bible in all life situations. I appreciate her openness about living with chronic illness, and how that and other hard trials have ultimately strengthened her faith.

This book dives deep into truly surrendering our stories and letting go of the tight grip of control most of us try to have over our lives. It serves as a reminder that patience produces perseverance and allows God’s plan for our lives to play out (and fun fact, it’s better than our own plan). Tara is gifted in sharing how her own stories have transformed her life and provides encouragement to those who are still grappling with the idea of surrender. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend!

Some deep wisdom from a lovely young writer. I’m always a bit hesitant to read from younger authors writing about faith/religion, but…
I Timothy 4:12 — “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” —> and she does just that.
I so appreciate Mrs. Sun’s transparency in telling her story, her struggles, her doubts about God’s path… and sharing her growing mindset and heartset. Lifelong journey for all of us! I am also currently in a time of upheaval, praying and waiting to see where God will lead me and my family… I’m definitely not patient, but I’m trying to be openminded.
Loved this! Super helpful! Super encouraging! Love it! Thank you for my copy through a Goodreads giveaway.

As I read this book, I felt like Tara and I would be kindred spirits. A lot of the things she shared in this book I really relate to. I’m also a type A personality with a tight grip on my plans. And like her, I had God pull my plans out of my hands and give me a path I had no desire to go on but in the end found myself closer to Him because of it.

I love how Tara consistently points readers back to scripture and to truth. It’s only in surrender that we can have peace. And we truly can trust our God with our lives! I just loved the relatable tone and easy read that this book was and would definitely recommend it! Tara’s vulnerability in sharing her own personal life story and struggles made her point that much more authentic. If you’re struggling with control, I highly recommend this book!

Besides the fact that I really enjoyed Tara Sun's writing style and personality, I found this book to be very engaging, entertaining, but most of all, informative while biblically sound. Her story is an inspiring message to anyone struggling with control and an inability to surrender. What a beautiful book. Praise God for how He works through us, with us, and in us.

I wanted to plow through it because I had to review it by March 7, but as soon as I started, I knew I had to take my time. This was best read in snippets for me. And I will definitely go back to do a more thorough deep dive into the questions at the end of each chapter. Looking forward to that! Great book for all Christian women.

Tara does a wonderful job of explaining how to surrender your story to God and grow in your faith while Trusting Him with His perfect plan for our stories every step of the way! I highly recommend this book if you struggle with the unknowns, anxiety, stress, etc. with wanting to know how try and control your life when really God is the one in control and He is the one that is writing your story which is far better than we could ever write for ourselves!!

Definitely a good read for any season of your life!

Tara’s heart for The Lord and for others to experience the joy that comes with seeking and chasing after God definitely jumped out of the pages. It was definitely a decent read, my only hesitation with giving it 5 stars was that it read more of an autobiography and sometimes slightly too casual for my liking. It had great proactive strategies and prayers for the reader to actively deepen their relationship with Our Heavenly Father and provided biblical evidence of these too which I rather liked about this book.

I first discovered Tara Sun when I listened to her podcast Truth Talks With Tara several years back. I knew she had written a book and was able to get it through interlibrary loan recently!

This is a short but well written Christian living book about surrendering and giving control back to God. What a beautiful reminder!

My only complaint is that the book doesn’t feel very well structured and it feels a little all over the place. This, however, was a very minimal issue that I could easily overlook.

Four stars for this amazing girly Christian living book!! 💗🎀🍒

This book was a warm, practical reminder that we cannot, in fact, control our lives--and that God's plan for us is so much larger and more powerful than we are. Tara did a wonderful job combining her story with Biblical reflections to address one of the hardest questions of the Christian life: what does it mean to submit to God's will, and how can I actually do so? This book is clearly addressed to young women, but its content is good and true for everyone.

Surrender Your Story was written I believe to remind us that God is the true author of life. Realistically Ms Sun tells us that what is important in our faith, to come back to the original author and restore our faith. Which may be true for some, but the book also touched on another important concept, that if saving the work of the soul. Even finding an original author can be hard these days, but God and the bible are still there to guide the way. Well recommended

I highly recommend this book for any Christian woman. It is such a well written and thought out commentary on surrender and the struggles we go through in learning to trust God. Tara writes in a way that is uplifting and encouraging while also being real and challenging in a good way. Full of Biblical truths, Surrender Your Story takes on the lies we come into contact with and destroys them in favour of the freedom of living God’s way. I cannot recommend it enough.
