After tragedy strikes, I find myself a single dad with a newborn baby. I'm just trying to figure out how to do this on my own.
Now it's time for me to go back to work and I need someone to watch my daughter. I run into my wife's best friend, Riley, who offers to watch my daughter during her summer off.
What starts out as an innocent agreement, turns into a dangerous attraction that neither of us can control.
Especially not when she flaunts that body of hers at the beach or asks me to put lotion on her.
I want a second chance at happiness. She doesn't want to hurt anybody.
Author of spicy romance novels! Lover of dogs, wine, and coffee. Loves to write books that pull at your heartstrings but never leave out the dirty parts!
This was my first Nicole Baker book, but it most definitely will not be my last!! I can’t get over Liam & Riley’s love story! Becca was the love of Liam’s life & Riley’s best friend. When she unexpectedly passed during child birth, both Liam and Riley’s worlds were turned upside down. Riley spent a lot of time around Becca & Liam, but prior to Becca’s passing neither Riley or Liam really noticed the other person as more than just an important person to Becca. But when Riley starts helping out with Harper, Liam’s precious baby girl things shift between them and they begin to really notice each other!! I love how Nicole wrote such wonderful characters, Liam is an amazing dad who misses his wife but also wants what’s best for his daughter, Riley is an amazing Kindergarten Teacher who just wants to make sure that she gets to be apart of her best friends daughters life!! They don’t mean to fall in in love but they do and it’s so good, and so pure, and so wonderful! I highly recommend this book, and I am excited to go back and read some of Nicole’s other books as well as her future books❤️
*I received an ARC from this author for an honest review.*
ARC review: This was the first book I read of Nicole’s, though it definitely won’t be the last.
My heart was filled with so many emotions from the start. The main characters healed from their hurt and loss together and in the end love conquered all. Definitely had me crying, which is sometimes hard to do but I felt all their pain.
Amazing love story and can’t wait for the next one.
My oh my oh my. I could not put this book down. Nicole has created characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and really root for.
When Becca dies, both Liam and Riley’s lives are completely thrown into a loop. Losing your best friend is heartbreaking but losing your wife and the mother of your newborn child? Surely there’s no way to recover from that?
Read how Riley and Liam’s relationship develops from shared grief to a support system to so much more. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

ARC Review: This is the first book I’ve read by Nicole Baker and I enjoyed it. The complexity of the relationship between Riley and Liam was well written. The dual POV narratives were effective in offering insight into the two main characters. I appreciated that the other characters also had diverse reactions to the relationship between Riley and Liam in the wake of Becca’s death. Parts of the book felt rushed and under explored but overall a well written book.
This had me sobbing throughout. The emotions were so real and the struggles I can’t even imagine going through. This was really well written and captured everything so well. I’m hoping for books for specific family members' stories because some questions I need answered!
Riley thought the day would be an amazing one when she found out her best friend since childhood was in labor. It all came crumbling down when she finds out that she died while giving birth. The loss she feels is great but she knows Liam, her best friend's husband, is obviously struggling.
She agrees to help him care for his daughter through the summer since she is off as a teacher. She wants to spend time with her anyway.
Liam is devastated after losing his wife, but doesn’t have time to shut down. His daughter needs him and, after getting a generous amount of time off, he needs to get back to work. He agrees to let his late wife’s best friend babysit for him. He’s thankful someone so close to his wife can help keep her memory alive for his daughter.
She’s the only one not coddling him, the only one willing to cry with him and embrace the memories, not skate around the loss. Quickly, their friendship grows into something neither of them expected. It’s confusing and both can’t help but feel guilty. How would their families and friends react if they knew and is it even appropriate so soon?
When you find the man who understands you and makes you feel things you didn't even know existed. A man who tells you your beautiful and likes to act out scenes from your romance novels that you never knew you'd enjoy so much. But what if that man is also your best friend's husband? Your best friend who just passed away giving birth to a baby girl just months ago.
Liam is struggling to deal with the loss of his wife, all while raising his newborn. He struggles to find the support he needs to make his days easier even with his family close. That is until his wife's best friend comes back into his life.
Riley, who is also dealing with the loss of Becca her best friend, realizes that she should be there for Liam and his daughter. Becca would want her to be there and still have a relationship with her daughter in her absence.
But what happens when Riley and Liam spend more and more time together, comforting each other though the hard days. When the days seem to get better and easier when they're together. What happens when you start to fall in love with your best friends widowed husband?
This is my first Nicole Baker book I've read and I was not disappointed. I fell in love with the characters and the chemistry and emotion that was written into her book was amazing! I was truly drawn in in the first chapter and couldn't stop reading.
Wow. I did not expect to be grabbed by the feels from the very first page. This was such an emotional yet heartwarming read. What was supposed to be the happiest day of Liam’s life, turned into a nightmare when his wife (Becca) passes away during childbirth, making him a father and a widower in the same day. When Liam needs to return to work, Riley, his wife’s best friend, steps in to help look after his daughter. Riley and Liam bond over their love and grief for Becca. Riley is the only one to treat Liam without kid gloves. Comfort turns into attraction but can you really find your happily ever after with you deceased best friend’s husband? And even still, what would people think?
This book has me tearing up throughout because you could really feel the pain of these characters. I felt their attraction, their grief and their guilt. They’re both struggling with the loss of Becca and also struggling with this growing attraction between them. How can they feel so happy together when it came at the cost of the one person who meant the world to them? This is a beautiful story of life and love after loss.
Thank you Nicole for this advanced reader copy! I cannot wait to read more from you!
“We never know when our time is up, so we have to take the time to find what we are grateful for in life and appreciate it.”
On a day that was supposed to be so full of joy came the ultimate tragedy. Becca was gone. Riley lost her best friend, Liam lost the love of his life and the mother of his child. Riley and Liam had known each other for years through Becca but now they come together to care for Harper and make sure Becca’s memory is carried on. Through their shared grief, Liam and Riley find attraction in one another. Is this the right thing for them to do? Should they listen to their friends opinions or the opinions of family members? Would Becca be betrayed by this? All of these questions seem impossible to find the right answer.
This book is so full of emotions it had me crying from the first page. Nicole captured this story perfectly, from guilt to having these feelings, family’s reactions, and ultimately giving over to just being happy. This was my first book from Nicole Baker, but it definitely will not be my last.

Riley and Liam have known each other for years. But it’s never been more than casual friendship. If they’re being honest with themselves, they really don’t know each other that well. Sure they’ve spent plenty of time around each other… but, it’s impossible to think it would ever be more than what it has been.
Riley’s just had her whole world tilt off its axis. Her best friend, Becca, with whom she’s grown up and who is the yin to her yang, is gone. They were supposed to have so much more time; they were supposed to raise their families side by side. Thinking about a life without Becca feels… impossible.
Liam’s whole world has just been shattered. His wife, Becca, with whom he’d committed to loving forever and growing old together, is gone. How can the happiest moment of their lives, welcoming their baby girl into the world, now be cloaked in sadness? Life without Becca… will be impossible.
Through their shared grief, Liam and Riley find solace in each other. They’re each trying to figure out how to make life work after Becca’s untimely death. Riley is determined to help Liam and to honor her friend’s memory - so it seems fortuitous that she can help nanny for baby Harper as Liam returns to work. It’s through her many little ways of helping and supporting Liam, that he realizes just how special Riley is. And he wonders why he never noticed it before?
Riley is determined to keep Becca’s memory alive and to ensure Harper never questions the love that surrounds her and was sacrificed for her. Riley systematically reties the bonds between grandparents, siblings, and puts the pieces of Liam back together too.
Witnessing the interest and desire build between Liam and Riley, on the backdrop of their shared pain, is emotionally intense. Truly wondering if it would be Impossible for them to find a way to their HEA is what drew me into their story. They question themselves, their timing, their guilt over wanting more… it is written with such reality and honesty, it had me glued to the pages!
My thanks to the author for allowing me to beta read her book! My opinions and review are my honest thoughts.
This story deals with the difficult task of moving on after losing the love of your life and best friend, but also finding love again and having to navigate grief, timing, and reconciling feelings for a past life with the desire for a new one. Watching Riley and Liam’s relationship progress as friends felt natural and offers a different perspective for an outsider’s judgement on appropriateness.
Riley’s bond with Harper and commitment to know her friend’s daughter is so sweet. And, again, I have such a soft spot for single dads (especially girl dads), so Liam hits the spot for me - not to mention the subtle references to a dominant side *sigh* But, not to worry. This is a pretty tame read as that goes and an absolutely lovely story.
Thank you, Nicole, for the pleasure of reading this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a surprisingly touching and emotional love story of finding new love after the loss of a spouse. This book beautifully deals with the idea of having more than one great love in your life. It also explores the complications of grief and bereavement.
The story starts with the loss of Becca after giving birth. Riley is lost without her best friend and Liam is thrown into a new life as a bereaved single parent. The loss brings them together. Riley wants to know her best friends daughter and Liam is grateful for the support and Riley's acceptance of their shared grief.
Their relationship develops slowly and organically and the author doesn't shy away from the realities of grief and the associated guilt. Liam and Riley share a gorgeous connection and they are pretty heated together. This is a touching and emotional story of love after loss.
📚”We never know when our time is up, so we have to take the time to find what we are grateful for in life and appreciate it. There’s always something to be thankful for, even in our darkest storms. For me, it was Riley.”📚
I’ll try to keep my review as spoiler free as possible. This story had me shedding tears non-stop, it started with so much pain and then later it builds up to a hopeful yet judged, second chance love story. This is not my usual dark romance read but it does get dirty and boy, oh boy, the spicy scenes 😮💨🔥. When ever I read books, I need a HEA no matter if it’s not the one I picture, but I liked and enjoyed this book a lot. This was a short and beautiful story.
The opening of this book was perfect…it gripped me! However, I just felt the rest of the book was lacking. It wasn’t that it was horrible or anything…I just needed more! More if something but I am not sure what.
The spicy scenes were great but I felt like as a best friend I expected more from Riley…why did it take 2 months to go back and see Harper??
And Liam…why did it take months to visit your wife?? I felt like Liam didn’t grieve enough. I don’t know…it was quick paced and I missed the angst and build up. The relationship development between the two characters just seemed the skim over the best friend/wife.
This is just my personal opinion. The writing was good but I needed more of something.
I had my reservations on reading this book because of the delicate/intricate part the female lead is to the male lead, but I've NEVER skipped a book to read in a series. So, I braced myself last night thinking the worst.
However, because I read the first book, the little moments of interactions displayed with Becca brought light to Becca's unique, fun, and loving character. Looking back, I think I was a little biased due to how much I liked Becca.
But if you're a little hesitant to read this book, take a deep breath and allow yourself to have an open mind. Just like it is in real life, not everything is what it seems to be.
The story of Riley and Liam is very sweet. Riley's best friend and Liam's wife Becca dies after giving birth to her daughter Harper, leaving them both without the one person they could rely on.
When Riley offers to watch Harper when Liam goes back to work, an attraction that was never there before blooms between them and a relationship unfolds. However, when Becca's parents find out, things go from amazing to horrible in one night.
The only reason I'm giving this book 4 stars is because there's no real storyline and you could guess where the story was going after the first few chapters.
They do get their HEA and it's a sweet story about finding love after loss.

Everyone handles grief differently and yet there is so much judgement.
“Grief is a weird thing. You can feel nothing one second, devoid of all emotion. Next thing you know, you have so many emotions running rampant through your body, you feel like you're going crazy. Then there are these moments where the world seems to slow down, and you appreciate things you always took for granted.”
“What I fail to understand is how these people who claim to love me insult and accuse me of dishonoring my deceased wife.”
I did love this scene - “It's the quiet ones with their heads always in a book that surprise you. Apparently, there are some valuable things you can learn in a book. Who knew?”
This was the first book of Nicole's I've read, and I absolutely loved it! Impossible is a very well written, emotional, unputdownable read. Liam finds himself as a single dad on what should be the happiest day of his life; bringing a child into the world but losing his wife on the same day, his life has completely changed. His life seems grim and hopeless. Needing someone to lean on he connects with Riley (his wife's best friend) to help with his daughter. What starts out as a friend helping another friend out builds into so much more! Have your tissues ready to get through this one!
Liam’s wife, Becca, tragically passed away the day she gives birth to their daughter. Riley is Becca’s best friend. As Liam is trying to navigate his way through his new reality and Riley is trying to get over the grief, the two of them find themselves leaning on each other.
Of course the inevitable happens but the journey to get there is a lot more difficult.
I enjoyed the way the story played out and the emotions the characters were feeling felt quite honest. It is a very heart warming story of loss and love.
Wow…this was a tough but good read. If you need a good cry…this is the book for you. It’s also got some laughs, some steamy scenes, happiness and lots and lots of tears. I’m a cryer at almost anything but if you don’t shed a tear or two or a hundred, there is something wrong with you. It’s an interesting scenario that I can’t imagine being in, but at the end of the day, remember your happiness is what matters most, not the opinions of others. Be Brave and Be Happy!
This book follows Riley and Liam. Riley is Becca's best friend and Liam is her husband. The story starts with a painful loss. What should've been a joyous day, turned into a day of mixed emotions. After the birth of his daughter Harper, Becca unexpectedly passes away. And Riley lost her best friend.
Throughout the story we follow Liam as he deals with the loss of his wife, singe parenthood but learning to accept to move on. While he has to return to work, Riley offers to babysit for 2 days a week during the summertime. She bonds with Harper and slowly Riley and Liam grow comfortable with eachother and deal with the loss of Becca.
-----
They have very conflicting feelings about their changing emotions, but I love how Liam brings out the best in her. And she is completely herself with him.
My heart was so invested in this story, but I felt like Becca still was too present within Liam. Not that he should've forgotten his wife. But this is Riley and Liam's story not Becca and Liam. That was my only small issue with their story. I cried, laughed and most importantly felt the love between Riley and Liam.
I highly recommend this book, if you are looking for a book about love after a great loss.
I am looking forward to books about the other characters.
This was my first book from Nicole Baker and I absolutely loved it! My emotions were all over the place while reading!
Liam is having a baby girl with the love of his life, Becca. It should be the happiest time in his life expect his wife dies after delivering their baby. How is he supposed to raise his daughter on his own? Riley is Becca’s best friend and a kindergarten teacher. She offers to help Liam because she is off for the summer. They’ve never noticed each other before but after spending so much time together, things start to change. They can’t be together though because they would feel guilty and no one would accept this type of relationship, right? Liam and Riley pulled on my heartstrings so much and their emotions were so realistic!
If you want a book with real emotion and light steam, then you definitely need to read this book. Be warned though, you may need some tissues for your tears!
This was my first book by Nicole Baker. It was an ARC. I have to say that this book was not the typical Romance book that I would have imagined. It was definitely a story line that I was not expecting. I absolutely loved that the story was told from both points of view. I instantly loved how Riley stepped up in such a situation and Liam had my heart from the very beginning. I wont lie but often times I got upset at the book because of how things were progressing but that’s what makes it a Great book. Definitely the happy end I hoped for.
First let me thank Nicole Baker for the ARC of this amazing book. One of the best I have read this year. Riley and Liam are so good together in the grief, their good times and even when in doubt. They fall fast and hard for each other and it surprises both of them. I loved how the author delivered their emotional struggles as individuals and as a unit. This book really warmed my heart. I have a new favorite author!!
2nd in the Brady series we follow Liam who loses his wife after giving birth. While trying to grieve Liam wife best friend Riley help him out and in that time there grow closer no spoilers give it a read and see for yourself. Love how Nicole has covered this emotional storyline. 4 1/2 ⭐️ would of been 5 if we could of seen a bit more from there future as there was no epilogue
This was a book had my emotions going every which way. I was crying, laughing and so hot and bothered🥵. Riley’s best friend dies during childbirth torn between going to see the new baby or leave and let them grieve the loss. Liam can’t even celebrate the birth of his daughter as he is grieving the loss of his wife💔. I was sucked right into their story, finished it in one setting.
I was immediately hooked from the beginning. This story is just so heartbreakingly beautiful. I feel like my heart could burst for Liam & Riley. And Harper was such a delight the whole book. 😍 I really felt connected to Riley. The epilogue really just cued the water works for me. Such a feel good type of book.
This book. THIS BOOK! It's so incredibly emotional and sweet, angsty and comforting at the same time. I am an absolute sucker for a single parent book and Nicole Baker delivers! Riley is a fantastically drawn character - believably flawed yet strong AF. Liam is a broken man just trying to do the right thing for his child. This is my first book by Nicole and it will NOT be my last. Loved it!
Impossible was my first read from Nicole Baker. This book had my emotions on a roller coaster, and I loved it so much. I really enjoy her writing style, and I couldn't help but fall in love with the characters. If you're looking for a good book to read, this is it. Four Stars from me and I can't wait for Nicole's next story!
I tried, I really tried, but I couldn’t get over the dead wide AND baby trope. I would have preferred there to be no baby involved, it feels weird that he has a kid with another woman (even if it was his wife). Ugh, I guess I want the heroine to feel special in some way and I didn’t really get that feeling, even towards the end with his grovel.
