EXCERPT: . . . then she reached the fourth drawer, the one marked RECEIPTS in Harry's awkward uppercase print.

There were files for almost every purchase he'd ever made - cars, appliances, furniture, clothing. Reading through them was like watching a quick movie reel of their life together. There was the receipt for the car Harry'd bought Emma the year their son, and only child, Christopher was born. A silver baby's cup Harry'd ordered to mark the birth of his sister Prudence's first child. A new chimney liner. The first guitar they'd bought Chris. Her eyes lingered over this one as she recalled how Harry had later 'rued the day' he'd 'opened that can of worms.'

Emma dropped that receipt on the desk; Chris might get a kick out of it.

There was a file containing personal purchases Harry had made for himself. A three piece charcoal suit and a lightweight summer sports coat. Three white dress shirts and a bill for monograming the cuffs. A receipt from a jeweller in Boston for an eight inch gold bracelet, and a . . .

'Wait. What?'

She held up the receipt and scrutinised the fine print. 'One eight inch fancy link bracelet - 14K gold. The price was staggering.

Confused, she reread the receipt several times. Was she losing her mind? Had he bought her such a thing and she'd forgotten? Sure, we all lose a little as we age, and forgetting some things now and then is normal. But could she have forgotten such a wonderful and expensive a gift? No, she was sure she'd have remembered that. She'd have worn it every day. She'd probably be wearing it right then.

No, Harry'd never given her a gold bracelet, and since he'd never worn any jewelry other than his wedding ring and cufflinks, she knew it wasn't for him.

And then she noticed the print at the bottom of the receipt: Add gold disk charm, front engrave: CJD 2-14-2012. Back engrave 'My heart'.

ABOUT 'ALL THAT WE ARE': In the decade since Emma Dean’s husband died, she’s maintained a peaceful and organized life in her hometown of Wyndham Beach—until she finds evidence of her husband’s longtime affair. How, Emma wonders, can a man who’s been gone for ten years still break her heart?

Still reeling from the betrayal, Emma must focus on the group of artists she’s invited to take up residence at the art center she founded, one of whom is secretly seeking refuge from her abusive ex. Toss in a charming businessman who’s returned to town with eyes for only Emma, and it’s becoming a most interesting summer.

And the biggest surprise of all is about to ring Emma’s doorbell and turn her life completely upside down yet again.

As Emma struggles between what was and what is, she discovers that the life she really wants—however unexpected—is just within reach, if she’s willing to fight for it.

MY THOUGHTS: The standout attraction of this series for me is the fabulous and very real characters. I love the relationships between the three women - Liddy, Maggie and Emma - friends since their schooldays, they are not backwards with telling each other what they think, but they are also very supportive of one another. I would love a group of friends like this.

There are a few different threads to this story, which is centred around Emma, who has been a widow for the past ten years. A secret is uncovered which leaves her both devastated and angry. Then a knock on the door turns her and her family's lives upside down.

All That We Are is a heartwrenching story that, despite a few slow spots, held me captivated until the very end. I just have to say that I finished this read with a wobbly bottom lip and tears pooling in my eyes. It is an emotional rollercoaster of a read that had me chuckling at times, sometimes angry at the actions of some of the characters (just see if you don't get angry with Owen too!) , crying - sometimes sad tears, sometimes happy ones - but mostly hopeful that things were going to work out for everyone.

All That We Are is the second book I have read in this series. Although they can be read as stand-alones, I really recommend that you start the series from the beginning to get the entire backstory and relationship history. I am certain planning on going back to read the first, and I am hoping that there will be more books to come.

All That We Are is the third book in the Wyndham Beach series, set in a small town on the Massachusetts coast. If you love reading about complex family dynamics, real life dilemmas, unexpected life events that make you question everything, second chances in love, and, above all, lifelong friendships, this is a series for you. It is better to start with the first book as you would get a much fuller reading experience, but All That We Are can be read as a standalone, if you don't mind getting glimpses of the happily-ever-afters Maggie and Liddy, the protagonists of the previous two books, are living in this one.
The focus of this book is on Maggie and Liddy's friend Emma Dean. Emma, who is always impeccably dressed and effortlessly 'appropriate, has her own heartbreak to come to terms with and overcome in this story. Although she's been widowed for a long time, it is only now that she starts looking through her husband's papers and discovers that he had a long term affair with his co-worker. As the evidence keeps mounting, Emma is trying to reassess her life and decide whether she wants her son Chris even know about his father's infidelity. After all, neither of them can confront Harry who's been dead for more than ten years. My heart went to Emma who had the proverbial rug pulled from under her feet not once, but twice in this book, when a stranger rings her doorbell and Emma has to deal with the situation she never thought she would have to face.

Luckily, Emma has her wonderful system of support and I don't mean just her life-long friends Maggie and Liddy who keep reminding her who she is and what she genuinely and wholeheartedly believes in. It is the whole Wyndham Beach community with its very special atmosphere. I liked the way different generations with their different perspectives have their stories interwoven as they do in real life. If you've read the previous two books, you might also appreciate the development some characters (e.g. Grace, Maggie's daughter) have gone through in the series.
The writing is very engaging and you need this kind of style when the topic can be summarised by one word: Life. Other topics include a relationship parents have with their grown-up children, which can be a reason for anxiety, feeling guilt, or pregrets, but can also be a source of joy, happiness, and support.
Emma's age group doesn't get enough representation and it is lovely to read a well-written series giving women in their late fifties-early sixties protagonist roles.
I am now a fan of Mariah Stewart and will be looking forward to reading more of her stories in future.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.

the setup…
It’s been over ten years since Emma Dean’s husband Harry died suddenly from a heart attack. He was president of the local bank, a family tradition, and left her well cared for financially. Over the years, she’s carved her own path, creating and managing the town’s art center where she helps promote and feature local artists. Her son, Chris, a famous rock star and lead singer for DEAN, helps support her efforts. When she decides to empty out some of her husband’s old records to make room for her business, she discovers evidence of a longtime affair with a woman she knows well. It shakes her to her core, calling into question their entire relationship and the life they shared together.

the heart of the story…
Even though Emma has made the art center a success, this was sort of her own coming of age story where she begins to see herself as more than Harry’s wife and Chris’s mother. She’s a preacher’s daughter who went straight from college into marriage, the more conservative and proper of her two best friends Maggie Flynn and Liddy Bryant (think signature pearls with every outfit). It was refreshing to see her go through the stages of new grief after discovering Harry’s duplicity as it was not only realistic but it helped peel back the veneer she’d developed during her marriage. For the first time, she makes decisions based on her own needs, including the possibility of a relationship with Owen Harrison who is from a prestigious family in the community and offers her new experiences well beyond that in Wyndham Beach. But it’s the surprise visitor who shows up at her front door that is truly life changing. It consumed me more than any of the other plot lines.

the narration…
I found the two previous narrators were perfectly suited for their characters and it was no different here. She seemed to exemplify in voice, tone and affectation all that I believed Emma to be. I enjoyed her performance as she not only came across authentically as Emma but handled the other characters distinctively.

the bottom line…
Before this story, I didn’t find Emma all that interesting beyond being the mother of a rock star. She shines here as she finds her own voice and makes some brave and important decisions that maybe she would have handled differently if she hadn’t become introspective about the realities of her marriage. There’s a major storyline that would be spoilerish to talk about so all I’ll say is that it was fascinating and life changing for Emma. While her romance with Owen was a bit tepid, I liked where it was going. I enjoyed the story overall and really believe the open threads go beyond my imagination and merit another book, at least a novella! I love this series and am not ready for it to end. Emma turned out to be a really nice surprise.

Emma Dean’s husband died over ten years ago, she thought they had a happy marriage, until she cleans out Harry’s office and discovers he'd been cheating on her. Emma’s upset, she mourned Harry when he died suddenly and now she’s questioning everything about their relationship, she feels betrayed and foolish.

Emma has lived in Wyndham Beach her whole life, she has the support of her best friends Maggie Flynn and Liddy Bryant and her only child Christopher. Emma’s son Christopher is the lead singer in a band, he’s been very successful and he’s dating Maggie’s daughter Natalie.

To take her mind of her unfaithful husband, Emma focuses on her latest project, she’s remodeling cabins for six artists to live and work from. At the end of their three month sabbatical, they will exhibit their art in her center she founded and hopefully make some money.

Emma hasn’t dated since Harry passed away, Owen Harrison's family own a historical house in Wyndham Beach and the busy entrepreneur occasionally visits. Emma’s considering if she and Owen could possibly have a long distance relationship, when a little girl rings her door bell, and she’s sure that Emma’s her long lost grandmother?

Emma's world is turned upside down, she contacts Chris and he has never heard of Winnie’s mother. Emma feels sorry for Winnie, she’s only eight years old, Emma looks after her and while they try to locate her mum. Emma is also worried about one of the artists, her husband is abusive and what will happen if he finds her? After having a heart to heart discussion with Stella, it makes Emma question some of her late husband’s behavior and how he treated her!

I really enjoyed the two previous books in the Wyndham Beach Series; The Invincible Summer and Goodbye Again by Mariah Stewart and now it’s time to read about Emma's life and what will test her faith, strength, and resilience. I really liked the three main characters of Maggie, Liddy and Emma, they have a close friendship, and all three have faced adversity, they take on life’s challenges and hiccups together, Emma is lucky to have two wonderful friends, their unconditional support and the community of Wyndham Beach. Four stars from me, I wish the narrative focused more on Emma's relationship with Owen and less on everyone else.

Another great story by Mariah Stewart! The only thing is I wish there had been more on the romance between Emma and Owen. Being 55 myself, I love that this series is about women over 50 as there is not enough of this. I hope that there is more of these ladies, or others their age, in books to come but I’m thinking the next will be focusing on Grace. I do hope Maggie, Liddy and Emma are kept current in that one.

Pfffffffftttttttttt. 2 way-too-damn-long 🌟.

I like women’s lit. This one drove me batty, though. Too many extraneous details. Not enough loose ends getting tied up. The narrator left me wanting a totally different narrator. Too slow and her male voices were maddening to my ears. Plus, 60 is NOT THAT OLD. Why are these 3 friends acting like they are moments away from an assisted living facility?

Anyhoo. It could be my mood or the barometric pressure or the season or whatever, but my single lasting impression of this book was MEH. Missed opportunities (IMO) for buckets of angst.

A charming and heartfelt installment to the Wyndham Beach series--we finally get Emma's story. The pastor's daughter and banker's wife, Emma always did what was expected of her. But ten years after her husband's death, she learns her life wasn't as it seemed. When a series of discoveries shakes her to her core, Emma finally understands that doing what's expected and doing what's right aren't necessarily the same thing.

It's wonderful to visit Mariah's charming small town, and even better to spend time with her characters. This is a story of friendship, love and acceptance, and the novel provides some closure to previous storylines. But no worries, the book can be read as a stand alone.

Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review

All That we Are is the third book in Whyndham Beach series by Mariah Stewart and follows Emma's journey discovering her husband's affair after his death.

I absolutely loved a few elements of the book - Emma's independence and her vigour towards life even at her age was marvellous. I liked that she was not shown as to be dependent on her son for anything and her girl clique with Maggie and Liddy are goals. The way she took care of Winnie despite being suddenly in charge of a kid melted my heart.

Even Chris' character was much likeable, I am glad that the author didn't resort to the typical rock star behaviour portrayal for him. Natalie irked me a bit at times but Grace was an absolute bomb. I just loved how she made Nat understand where she is wrong.

But something that I didn't like about this one is that it felt a bit dragged to me at times and I feel like this would have been better if it was shorter. The individual elements of the book had great potential especially the art centre and artists plot. At times, I felt like I was reading two different stories which shouldn't have been connected at all.

I did like the ending though, I am happy that Emma and Owen resolved their differences and got back together.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
All opinions are my own.

I discovered this series through NetGalley and have been fortunate enough to obtain all of them. I've been really excited for the conclusion of the series for some time, and this did not disappoint. What sets this apart from other beach reads is the characters. They are instantly likeable and very... real, I guess is the best way to put it. This series shows the impact of strong female friendships, and also shows that it really does take a village! I loved the introduction of Winnie as a character. If I had one thing to criticize, I would say that the romance between Emma and Owen seemed a little forced.
Overall, I enjoyed this and would recommend it to others.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC!

All That We Are is the final book in the Wyndham Beach trilogy and a wonderful conclusion to the story. The series features three friends: Maggie, Lydia and Emma who have known each other since they were young girls. This is Emma's story. Emma has been a widow for ten years and was devastated to find out that her husband had been having an affair when he died. Reeling from this discovery, she isn't sure what to do, but her self-confidence takes a beating. While sorting this out, a young girl arrives at her door, claiming to be her granddaughter. Her son, Chris, is a musician and apparently, a one night stand with a groupie ended with a lovely young girl, Winnie, who is now 8 years old and has been sent to her father's family by her maternal grandmother. Throw in a handsome, wealthy man, Owen, who is interested in Emma, as well as property that Chris bought his mother for an artist's retreat that needs to be renovated, and there is a lot happening in this story.

I have enjoyed all the books in this trilogy, and I think Emma's story is the best yet. Mariah Stewart has taken multiple storylines, all involving Emma and her family, and woven them into a seamless, enjoyable read. The characters are wonderful and very well developed. Winnie steals the book for me. She is such a sweet, precocious young girl who has been through a lot in her short life. Being shunted back and forth between family and friends has to be an awful feeling and for this young girl not to have been damaged is a bit hard to believe, but I'm glad she was written that way. There is a mystery (is Chris really Winnie's father, and where is her mother), romance between Emma and Owen as well as Chris and Natalie, some angst, friendship and even an abuse story involving one of the artists. All this is tied together into a wonderful story that I could not put down. I highly recommend this book and series to everyone who enjoys stories of growth, life changes, family and friendship as well as some angst and realistic life situations. I will be watching for more from Mariah Steward as well as checking out her backlist.

I'm a big fan of women's fiction and am loving Mariah Stewart's Wyndham Beach series which centers on three near 60 year old women who have been best friends from a very young age. All That We Are is the third book in the series and this story is focused on Emma, the widow of the town banker and mother of Chris Dean a world famous superstar singer.

Emma Dean needed something in her life to give her purpose. Her son travels headlining concerts. He now has a special someone in his life so he didn't visit Wyndham Beach as much as Emma would like. Emma found purpose by creating an arts center, showcasing undiscovered artists and giving them a chance to shine. She meets Owen Harrison, a member of one of the town's founding family and they make a connection. As the story unfolds drama happens between Emma and Owen as well as at the arts center.

All is resolved at the end of the book but the story leaves openings for more to be written about those we've come to know in previous books. YAY! I rate this book 4.5 stars out of a possible 5. I deducted half star because one character in earlier books was a level headed, competent woman who became rather whiney in this book.

I received an ARC of All That We Are by Mariah Stewart from NetGalley with the agreement that I would contribute a fair and honest review.

I loved this emotional, complex, and heartwarming story! This book in the series is Emma’s story, but it’s much more than that. It’s also the story of Natalie and Chris, Maggie and Brett, Grace and Linc, Liddy and Tuck, and of Winnie. It’s the story of making and being a family, and of deep and lasting friendships. I hope we might meet up with these delightful characters again!

Where do I begin…

What a fantastic read. I literally stayed up half the night to read. Forced myself to go to sleep with only 20% left. Finished this morning with my coffee.

I love how this author weaves a story. She literally reaches into your chest and grabs your heart. She then gives a bit of a twist until she puts it back with a little pat. As if to say…there, there. It’s all ok. See.

I really hope there’s a short story with Chris’s wedding because I need it bad. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these wonderful characters. They are the type to stay with you for a very long time.

Once again this author has proved that she is a QUEEN at writing a story that makes you laugh, cry, hold your breath and sigh!

Well done!!!!

This is the third book in the author’s Wyndham Beach trilogy, featuring three life-long friends. As in the first two books in the series, all of the main characters appear once again. However, this book features Emma, whose husband has been dead for 10 years, and who runs a local art center. I didn’t expect it to be, but I believe this is my favorite of the three; I loved it!

As the book opens, Emma is purging her dead husband’s files to make more room for her own home office. As she briefly scans Harry’s papers, she discovers a receipt for an expensive gold bracelet engraved for his assistant for Valentine’s Day. Emma had spent their entire marriage trying to be the perfect wife, and the best he gave her for Valentine’s Day was a cheap box of chocolates. As the book goes on she learns more lies Harry told her, more betrayals, and she examines the life they had.

As with the previous books in the series, there are numerous threads in the book, including those continued from previous books. Her son, Chris, is a famous rock star, who’s in love with the daughter of one of Emma’s best friends, and it appears an engagement is looming. Owen, a wealthy businessman who has just bought a villa in Italy, is back in town (at least briefly) and once again takes Emma out for a date. In addition to struggling with her feelings about Harry’s betrayal, Emma has a visiting artists program beginning in the summer, with six budding artists ready to descend on the town. Additionally, a major surprise appears on Emily’s doorstep, and shakes up her world. I’ll have to admit that Emma’s potential romance was the least interesting of the threads for me.

At the heart of the story is the relationship between Emma and her two friends Maggie and Liddy. I love how these three nearly-sixty women with adult children have gone through so many changes over the course of the three books. They all lead active lives and are continuing to evolve. But one thing that never changes is the love and support they give each other.

I’ve read some people write that this book could work as a standalone. While I suppose that’s true, I think it is much more meaningful to read the series from the first, so that each of the characters’ background has more meaning. For me, I hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of these women and their families. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐️ Book Review

Meet the Author: Mariah Stewart lives with her husband and two rambunctious rescue dogs. She resides in Pennsylvania where she savors country life, tends her gardens, and works on her next novel. She is the proud mama of two daughters who have gifted her with six adorable grand babies.

Reader’s Thoughts: All That We Are by Mariah Stewart is the third installment of the Wyndham beach series. Each novel within this series tells a story of three best friends. This is Emma’s story. A decade after Emma’s husband passes away she discovers the truth…..he had been having an affair with his assistant. She doesn’t understand how such betrayal ten years later could hurt so much. The enduring friendships in this novel are pure and full of never ending surprises. Full of supportive family and friends, Emma will make it through this difficult time.

Stewart writes with such passion, the reader can feel every emotion throughout the story. The characters are personable and relatable. The story line was realistic and flawless, flowing smoothly from beginning to end. There was a little mysterious twist to the story which I also liked. At no point was this a dull or boring read, keeping me wanting more until the very end. I will definitely recommend not only this novel, but this author to all of my book friends. I will be on the lookout for more to read from Stewart.

Thank you, @NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary review copy. In no way has that influenced my voluntary review.

All That We Are is part of the Wyndham Beach Series by the tried and true author, Mariah Stewart. She pulled out all the stops in this delightful story. I will admit I wasn’t sure where I thought this story was going with Emma Dean’s first surprise but I couldn’t stop reading once the knock on the door happened. Emma may have thought that life had changed ten years ago but boy, did it change for her now. With true friends and family by her side, the only way to react to change is open your arms and embrace it. Change should encourage you to change with it. Emma does just that in this story.

I appreciated the character of Emma who could have sympathy for someone who would have been considered the bad girl even ten years later. How she could open her heart to include others is a true gift of hers. I loved her group of friends and their children. In fact, I loved everything about this story.

One amazing story that I read without having read the previous books. No worries it reads well as a stand-alone except like me you will want to buy the previous books which I have now done. Just the sunny book to read in the dead of winter, in the summer, or really anytime you need to meet a character with a “picture memory”. I loved that Winnie, too!

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

All That We Are by Mariah Stewart is the third book in her Wyndham Beach series. This series follows the friendship of three women in their late 50s. Each book centers on one of the friends while also telling side stories about the others as well as visiting the lives of their children. This book is Emma's story. What stands out in these books is the true unfailing friendship between the three friends as well as the respect their children have for their mothers. If one person is going through something, they are all going through it and support each other. I love all the little side stories involving the children. There are relationships being built, weddings being planned, and grandchildren showing up out of nowhere! There is even a little mystery and suspense thrown in to keep things interesting. I was thinking that this might be the last book in the series, but there are some interesting loose ends still dangling as well as some weddings promised that we haven't seen yet. However many books are left, I plan to read them because I truly enjoy Mariah Stewart's writing.

My sincere thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read All That We Are and give my unbiased opinion of it in the above review. I plan to continue to recommend the Wyndham Beach series to those who want a touching stories about older women who are living their best lives.

All That We Are is the third book in the Wyndham Beach series by Mariah Stewart, and just as endearing, engaging and heart-warming as all of the previous books. In this story we have found family, second chance love, mysteries, betrayals, friendship, loss, complex family dynamics and real life happily-ever-afters.

I love that this story features an older generation of vibrant, interesting women, in combination with other ages. In this story we focus primarily on Emma, one of the friendship trio. Emma is a quiet figure, but you see more of her inner strength in this story. We also get more of Natalie and Chris’s story which is quite captivating. This story shows love in it’s varying forms for all ages and feels realistic, yet also inspiring.

Mariah Stewart has a way of writing that is wistful, but also weighted with topics of import. She makes you want to jump right into her stories, join the families and move into town. Her stories are light-hearted, but also moving, impactful and they consistently draw the reader into the plot. She is my go-to author for a book that I know will be uplifting, charming, feel-good and thought-provoking. All That We Are is another easy five-star read for me.

All That We are by Mariah Steward is the third book in the Wyndham Beach series. This book focuses on Emma, who finds out a secret regarding her husband who has passed away ten years ago. This event leads Emma to the realization that she needs something of her own, to give her life meaning again.

I appreciated how well the author painted a picture of her characters and made the reader feel like they really knew them. This was truly a story of lasting friendship and the need for friends to rely on when the going gets tough.

I really enjoyed reading about Emma and her friends, Lydia and Maggie. I didn't realize this was a series, so I think I would have enjoyed the story even more had I read the first two books, but even so, I really enjoyed this story and plan on reading the others in the series!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC copy of this book, as well as Montlake publishing for the opportunity to read this story early. This review is my own honest and fair opinion of the book.

This is the third book in the Wyndham Beach series centering around three lifelong friends and their families. Emma’s life takes unexpected turns over the summer. Emma’s story has so many plots; Emma’s art center and retreat for promising artist (with one artist with an abusive ex); Emma discovering her dead husband’s infidelity; her romance with Owen, a wealthy businessman; and the surprise that arrives at her door. Overall, I enjoyed most aspects of this book, except for the Owen romance. All of the other plot lines seemed cohesive, but the romance seemed contrived. I haven’t read the first two books in the series, and if I had, perhaps I would see the chemistry between Emma and Owen. Reading this as a stand-alone, Owen’s character doesn’t seem fleshed out. I really enjoy this author’s writing style, which made it easy to jump into this story. Overall, an enjoyable read. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Naturally, I chose this due to my infidelity obsession. However, I was tentative because of the staggering frustration of determining the betrayal occurred 10 years after his death. And frustrating it was.Thankfully there was much more to the storyline.Eight yo Winnie is the star of this heartwarming tale...with Emmy and Chris ,an admirable Mom and son duo, close behind! Also I appreciated the romance between mature adults.(no sexy times here though😂)

The story
Emma Dean is going through her late husband’s paperwork when she finds evidence that points to him having an affair with his assistant. Her complicated relationship with a man who passed away ten years ago is just one of her worries. An eight year child, Winnie, arrives on her doorstep with the potential to be her granddaughter. Emma’s son, rockstar Chris is hoping to propose to his girlfriend Natalie, but life is about to become more confusing.

My thoughts
I loved the first two stories in this series - first came Maggie’s story, followed by Liddy’s story. With Emma, the three lifelong friends navigate life at 60. Their lives are woven together with their families and their histories. Two of the friends are widows, Liddy is divorced. All have experienced loss and happiness and their close relationship and family ties makes this a lovely read. Life is messy and things hardly ever go according to plan but when you have your best friends’ backs, things all work out in the end ❤️

I give this 4 stars a an easy beach read. This series wrapped up nicely. All 3 books were quick read, if not a little predictable. Nice way reads in between some longer books.
