Herman and the Princess Gull

Rate this book
When two unlikely characters find each other they decide that friendship is better than instinct.

Remember that wonderful, feel-good moment when, for the first time, we see a tender, loving exchange between two animals? In Herman and the Princess Gull, it is especially heartwarming because the two animals would normally be life and death enemies.

Herman was inspired by a true event on a lovely beach in Costa Rica. The author includes the “backstory” at the end, lending a nice, educational touch to the “cast of characters.”
Herman and Antares will melt hearts and become heroes of the sea for children everywhere. Be prepared—kids ask to hear this story night after night.

Growing up on fishing boats, the author has spent his entire life on the water, repairing, building, and operating commercial and pleasure vessels all over the world. This depth of knowledge and experience gave him the ability to build and captain Moana a very special, long-range power catamaran. His love affair with the sea is tangible as he describes in authentic detail, his fifteen-year odyssey to the most remote places on our planet. He calls San Diego home … when he is home.

Another nice but newer story for children with new animal characters.

Herman and the Princess Gull is a story about a land hermit crab who has dreams but lives in fear and then one day is actually confronted head on with said fear. Instead of running away he confronts said fear with compassion while a whole new adventure unwinds for him.

What I love about this book is the writing is simple and easy to read for young readers who may at least need help with just a few of the words. Furthermore there are small elements of educational information tucked into this fictional story to ground the tale for readers.

The book has full colored illustrations with beautiful details and the nod to the con

And for those who are curious to learn more, the author has tucked into the back a small Backstory that explores the various animals and items who appear in the book along with a colored photograph so you can see just what they look like. Plus you will see the sweet relationships the author did to really connect Herman and An.

All in all this book is the type of book I would love to see more of on library shelves for young readers.
