This one gets 2.75 ✨ from me.
That's because as much as this plot and the MCs did not appeal to me, the story was still well written. Spaced properly, and allowed everything to flow freely and quickly. So not once did this feel like a chore while reading it.

Now the reasons why the story didn't move me into happier directions? I just could not get over what these grown HUMAN males did to Rory. KNOWING she did not deserve what they were so willing to do to her, in the name of revenge. And the places they took this, 🤯🤯 was beyond grotesque 🤮 and just flat out disturbing 😵‍💫 If I'm being honest.

And then it's like a light bulb 💡 goes off and they're all of a sudden in love? 🥴 Niccas' 🥷Please✋️ I don't believe you.
You freaking psychos!🖕

Then we have Rory. Who was just way too quick to forgive and forget why she's being held against her will and the things done to her in the process. 🤨

I guess the plot, and yes the characters, and how everything played out, just wouldn't allow me to suspend belief long enough to be like; "Okay.. Yeah I totally get why all is forgiven and why it had to happen and turn out this way"

But no. My inner Goddess through this entire book was like.. "Fuq that! All of you wanker jerk monkeys are about to die!"
🤬🤬🤬...

I even found myself daydreaming while reading this, about running into Wade, Alder, Hayes, and Gray and just tasing them in the 🥜 sack till they pass out. Then, doing it again when they wake up. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.😤

Cause at the end of the day, yes, what happened to these men and what was ultimately taken from them was beyond heartbreaking, it will never justify what they did to Rory to exact their revenge. I cannot forgive that.

Then I realized that I can't forgive Rory for her choice in the aftermath either.. So maybe they're all crazy and deserve each other?🤷‍♀️ Point is, if you don't know yet just how crazy these folks are, that becomes so clear in the final 3 chapters.

In any case, I didn't love this one. I wasn't even a little bit "In-Like" with it. But when an Author can take me through the emotional spectrums that this book did, whether I end up loving or hating it, that Author has done their job. 🙌

Iris, I'm so mad that I could bite into some concrete right now😤🤣🤣

If you're curious folks, do take heed to the warnings regarding this novel. You're either going to love it or hate it. Good Luck.

I'm about to go get me a dranky drank, or two 🍷🍷

Wicked Dreams by Iris James is part of the Fairytales With A Twist series and is one of the most perfect darkest retellings of Sleeping Beauty and man did it start off with a bang!!! Like hello Iris James came to play and isn’t holding back any punches so check your triggers before reading type of bang—and man was it perfection!!!

This is the story of our heroine Rory who suddenly finds herself kidnapped by four sexy men with a vendetta against her father and on a mission to make him pay for crimes he committed against their families. Gray, Wade, Adler and Hayes have been following (aka stalking) Rory and her family for awhile and think that by taking Rory they’ll get the vengeance they seek. Little do they know they’re going to get so much more!

To say this story escalates quickly is definitively an understatement so definitely proceed with caution! Because in the midst of being kidnapped and drugged our heroine soon finds a new hunger awakened inside of her that only her four devious kidnappers can quench. And when secrets come to light, decisions must be made and you can only hope they’ll all survive.

Overall if you’re a fan of dark, fast paced fairytale retellings full of noncon/dubcon scenarios and lots of twists and turns featuring sexy and slightly psychotic alpha males that have a thirst for blood this is the one for you and will have you on the edge of your seat!

Thoughts:

I had problems with this book, as much as I liked the HEA at the end.

1. The first 60% was nonconsensual. The FMC was kidnapped, and then drugged for most of that percentage so they could keep her complacent while they did what they wanted to her. I am all for CNC, don’t even mind reading books that teeter the line. This book completely set it on fire. I had issues reading some of it, so much to the point I thought I was going to DNF. But I NEEDED to know how this ended!

2. Where was the MMCs groveling? It went from the FMC being viewed as collateral and not caring whether she was an innocent or not, to I love her. Literally 0 to 100%. The author hinted it at some points through the MMCs POVs, but the change caused whiplash. Where was the character and relationship development? I don’t even want to get into how fast the FMC forgave it all. Due to the lack of development, instead of love it felt a 100% like Stockholm Syndrome.

3. This story felt beyond missmarketed. I thought this would have some fantasy aspects with the dreams. Not that the MMCs were drugging her with Ketamine and whatever else. Yay, one of the MMCs is a doctor so she won’t OD (I say sarcastically). I wanted so much more from this story and it felt lacking. This was purely dark fictionally romance, NOT FANTASY.

4. One of the biggest let downs to me, is that the main kinks of this book is somnophilia and the only times this was present was when it was completely non-consensually. It would have left a different taste in my mouth if she request that to happen again of her own free will. That didn’t happen, making everything in the beginning of the book feel grimier. While there were other kinks as well (I.e. knife okay, blood play, etc) most of was also nonconsensual.

5. The editing and formatting needs work. I am not sure if it was an issue only on the kindle version as paragraphs are only spaced. There are was one sentence that made no sense since a word was pasted randomly in it. I tried to guess what the word was meant to be, but even without the name it made no sense. An editor was needed on the version I read. Did it detract from my reading? Yes. Was it detrimental to my reading? No.

I want to say I see how devastating and traumatizing the MMCs backstories are. Regardless, it does not make up for what they put her through. There was no apology, just a “…we can give you everything you want…” and “…you’re all we want…”.

Again, I am happy the book had a happy ending. As much as I sort of like the MMCs by the end (they wanted her happy and I’m a sap), I still wanted to punch them in the balls for what they did to her. There wasn’t enough development to overshadow that.

Would I read this again? Maybe once more to see if my opinions changes and I missed anything. After that if my opinion doesn’t change, hell to the no. Would I recommend this to anyone? Unless you have a somnophilia kink that borders heavy on non-consent , I would say no.

To anyone who enjoyed this book, I’m beyond happy for you. Please let me know if I missed any key parts that would change my mind.

Sleeping Beauty is my favorite, so I couldn’t resist a contemporary version, of course.
I was disappointed. I didn’t know how or if I’d finally like the guys, but they grew on me.

I enjoyed the snark and dubcon is my jam in dark romance so I liked the setup of this a lot. A lot.
It was pretty predictable but most retellings are and I still couldn’t put it down, so I’d still recommend it to people that have no triggers.

A smutty dark standalone
*reverse harem
*contemporary
*multi-pov
*fairtytale re-telling (sleeping beauty)
*triggers - ?consent / kinks
*kidnapping
*revenge plot
*established harem (4)
*fast burn 🔥
*standalone
This was a fairly quick read, as it’s not the deepest of stories, certainly more on the smut side! Nonetheless the story line is pretty gripping wondering why they’ve kidnapped our Sleeping Beauty in the first place and you get hints of this throughout! With a pretty interesting showdown in the end with some twists 😀😀
The four ‘brothers’ are different characters and you get a feel for that in the way the treat each other 🥰 they fall for Rory pretty quickly and realise she’s more than revenge to them 😄
Although the author lists as dub con, personally I would say there’s definite elements of non-con aswell! When things first kick off our FMC believes she’s doing the dirty with her fiancé not her kidnappers (which for me is non-con) when she realises hit believes she’s in a dream then yeah for me dub con as she knows who it is she doesn’t want to enjoy it but doesn’t say no then I agree that’s dub con - others may feel different but want to give some context 😃 either way…those scenes are hot!! If you are into questionable consent, somno and kinks then a smutty hot read!

Their Sleeping Beauty…

Rory was kidnapped by four men who want to make her father pay for his crimes against their family. Gray, Wade, Adler and Hayes believe that taking Rory will hurt her father but she’s an innocent and they try to fight their feelings about their sleeping beauty.

She’s been drugged and kidnapped, barely aware when she thinks she’s dreaming of her fiancé’s hands touching her everywhere making her burn all over. These guys awake a hunger in her that her fiancé could never even get close to making her feel. She’s confused but falling for her captors.

Her father and Fiancés secrets will be brought out to her and she must make a choice. This had a few twists that I didn’t see coming that brought lots of drama to the book.

This has lots of red flags for noncon, dubcon, Somnophilia, abduction, branding, drug use, knife and blood play. It’s fast paced with lots of smut and somewhat of a plot that I would loved to have more of but overall it was a good quick read.

Okay yall, I'm loving all of the books so far in the "Fairytales with a twist" series! This one is definitely one of my favorites. It's a sexy, dark retelling of sleeping beauty. I recommend starting it when you can the read the whole book at once. I started it pretty late and ended up pulling an all nighter cause I couldn't put it down!!

It does have quite a few triggers that may bother people, but she lists them at the beginning of the book. Personally, I'm into somnophilia, abduction, and dubious consent tropes... so this book was freaking amazing in my opinion. If you have problems with those tropes, I suggest you don't read this book or leave it a negative review based on those factors... because you had a fair warning. 🤷‍♀️

Overall, I loved this story and I'd recommend to anyone interested in dark fairytale retellings. It's definitely one that I will reread multiple times. Especially because of Adler.. whew, definitely my favorite!

This story was fantastic. Yeah it has a lot of sexy scenes but it was beautifully and tastefully written. It has possible triggers for some, but again they were tastefully written and developed. We have Rory who started off a bit of a girl that just lets whatever is done to her or said her just happen. But as the story progresses we see her growing. Then we have Hayes, Adler, Gray, and Wade and even though we star off on a rocky foot with them they really are kind of amazing. We see a lot of information throughout as to why they are the way they are and boy is it it a doozy of a reason. The story is extremely well written and developed. Honestly, it pulls you and keeps you glued to it as you absolutely have to find out why they are doing what they are to Rory. The ending was fantastic and I really enjoyed how it ends. This is absolutely a must read.

Fans of somnophilia, this book was made for us! I mean it is a retelling of sleeping beauty with a twist. We don’t have a prince charming here, we have 4 villains that are bent on revenge, and a princess that if in the beginning is a victim, soon raises to become a queen!

I devoured the book, and loved it, it did lack some more plot explanation (i wouldn’t have minded having more of the world!), but it was such a good read though! Rory was a great character, in the beginning i wasn’t sure about her, but the more i was reading the more i liked her! She was strong, and considering what the guys were doing to her, her calmness with the situation was astonishing!

Overall this was a great book, with a good plot and spice combination! But honestly the spice was awesome!!! And character development was great as well. And let’s be honest, i always thought King Henry was one shady guy!

I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow!!
What a roller-coaster of a read!! This book captured my attention from the start and I couldn't put it down!
There was a little suspense, a twist, a bit of dark humor and more. It's filled with spice throughout. So hot, hot, hot!!🔥 🥵
I loved Rory! The guys put her through a lot and I think she proves just how strong she can be. I also think that in way she also found out who she really was.
Wade, Gray, Adler, and Hayes are all broken men and have gone through bad stuff. Each man is unique and adds something to the group. I will say at the beginning of the story I wondered if the guys would ever redeem themselves or at least change. I won't give away any spoilers. I will say, that the author did a fantastic job of making me fall in love with each man in the end!
I loved it!!!

I always thought about myself as a reader without any real triggers, but this book made me wonder if I had to reconsider that thought. I'll be honest: "Wicked Dreams" made me a little queasy at times, and it was truly the darkest book out of the series so far, for me. This standalone in the "Fairytales With A Twist" series is filled with spice, most of it with a twisted side to it. Four men create their own sleeping beauty, and decide to not leave it at a kiss to wake her up...

"Wicked Dreams" is a standalone with a big focus on smut. There is still a storyline and some plot development, but it's quite low on characterbuilding. I don't believe it needs more of it to understand the storyline or anything, but I do believe this book is better suited for readers who like a little plot with their smut, instead of a little smut with their plot ;-).

Dark and dreamy with a huge serving of double steamy! *Don't skimp on reading the warnings*

Don't get it twisted...this story is twisted! This retelling is nowhere near the Disney side of fairy tales, but you will get your HEA...eventually. *insert evil villain laugh*

There are no knights upon white steeds. And this is no fainting princess. This story is raw and downright void of moral constraints. But that means the story can be as dark as the night with no apologies.

Rory's journey is not for the faint of heart or the pearl clutchers. Oh no. Hers is for the ones who enjoy the spiral into the basement level of sanity, yearning for the villains to take center stage. And while our four anti-knights are not as evil as they could be, they certainly don't like boundaries.

So dive in with devious expectations and enjoy your descent into the nights of Wicked Dreams!

In this book, we follow Rory. She has been kidnapped by four men that have it out with her father. They're getting their revenge for what Rory's father has done to their families by taking her and torturing her. They know she doesn't deserve it, but their thirst for revenge clouds their judgment. Gray, Wade, Adler, and Hayes think that they're going to get their revenge, but they get so much more out of this. They start to fall for the woman that they have kidnapped and tortured in the name of revenge. This book is a why-choose retelling of Sleeping Beauty, and let me tell you, this book escalates REAL quick! This is one of those books that you pick up and don't put down until you've finished it because you just HAVE to know what happens next! I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read more from Iris!!!! ❤

Twisted and spicy!

Wicked Dreams is part of the Fairytales With A Twist series and is a standalone. I want to start this review out by saying to please check the triggers before starting! It does have some darker elements and isn’t for everyone. This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more from her! This book hooked me from the first chapter and I couldn’t put it down! I devoured this book in one sitting! I absolutely loved Rory and the growth she had throughout the story. It took a bit for the guys to grow on me but in the end I loved them. This is a fast paced story with lots of twists that had me on the edge of my seat! It has a good and unique plot and the spice was top notch! I’m looking forward to more of this series!

First please check the triggers before reading this books. Now on to the book because holy cow was it so freaking good. Once I started reading it I literally couldn't put it down. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Rory had a very boring life into her men walked into it....ok well kidnapped her. Being held by them was extremely eye opening for her and she learned a few things about the people in her life. Wade, Gray, Adler, and Hayes went after Rory as she was the daughter of the man who had wronged them years ago. The chemistry between Rory and the guys is seriously hot as heck. I absolutely loved this book and have plans to reread it multiple times. If you enjoy dark fairytale retellings this is a book you really need to read.

I really was not prepared for how much I would enjoy this is a delightfully dark, dirty and sinfully spicy retelling of Sleeping Beauty, part of the Fairytales with a twist series of books. I was hooked from the beginning of this why-choose romance, the storyline was fabulous with twists I really didn’t expect and the spice was plentiful, hot and so good! You can probably guess what the main theme of the book is with it being a twist on sleeping beauty. Although I’ve read books with Somnophilia, it is usually one or maybe two scenes max, I loved that this book had multiple scenes making me realise that a new kink of mine has definitely been unlocked! Please check the TW before reading as there quite a few.

This has been my favorite book in the Fairytales with a twist series!

I could NOT put Twisted Dreams down. It is by far One of the Best Reads of 2023!

The story pulls you in from the very beginning. It is full of spice and steam!😈

Very well written! Iris James is definitely a one click author for me!

Rory has always lived a life of comfort and convenience but she wasn’t really “living” until she met the spicy foursome that is her Captors…Wade, Gray, Adler, & Hayes. 🔥🥵

The Guys have lived a life of loss and they ache for revenge , but what they get in return is far better than what they could have hoped for! 🖤

Read to find out if they go from “wicked dreams to blissful new beginnings”.

Only read this if you really like somnophilia (which I do). The first half of this book was really entertaining, with a lot of good dubcon spice.

The second half wasn’t as enjoyable for me… the plot was too rushed and the relationship development between the characters was weird and felt forced.
Also I didn’t connect with any of the characters. Everyone keeps saying that the fmc was so strong but she simply isn’t. Her actions and feelings were really frustrating for me.

So basically I wish that this was either a novella with only the smutty goodness, or a longer book with good character development.

Awakening

Iris James most recent novel within the Fairytales With A Twist Anthology is a Sleeping Beauty retelling that is certainly more exciting and sizzling than the original story. In this sleeping beauty, Rory, doesn’t just have one knight or prince to save her but four. Rory first looks at her four men as captors but as secrets unravel she realizes they’re really her saviors. This book has plenty of exciting adventure, mystery, suspense and steamy situations so riveting I couldn’t put it down until the very last page. I can’t wait to see what this author has planned next. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!

This is an erotic (albeit creepy) tale. I’m actually giving it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 stars. The four H’s start out with a plan of revenge, using the h as means to get it, even though she was an innocent. Their initial plan after kidnapping & drugging her was to dump her back home after they used her. Not. Cool. I was freaked over the twins enjoying their “blood play” a little TOO much (future serial killers anyone?). The h’s father and fiancé were corrupt, horrible men, so at least she discovered the truth about them. Mal, the H’s pseudo-mother and mastermind of the plan, was truly creepy. Thankfully by the end, the H’s truly care for and protect the h, redeeming them by the end.

Wicked Dreams by Iris James takes a sultry dive into the retelling of Sleeping Beauty, blending elements of dark fantasy and contemporary romance. Rory’s journey into a dream world filled with darker desires and dangerous choices is nothing short of intense. The relationships in this “why choose” story are fraught with power dynamics, but the emotional undercurrent is strong. The mature themes and psychological twists make this a deep, evocative read for those who enjoy exploring complex, sometimes uncomfortable desires. The vivid writing makes it a standout for readers seeking something unconventional.

Okay that's out of the way. This book was mind blowing. Rory is the perfect 'sleeping beauty' that any prince or 4 can ask for. I love fairytales retold and this one is with a twist alright, it's twisted, and will have you twisted around its little finger.

I love what I have already read by Iris James, but this one was THE BOMB. I am hoping there are many more fairytales With A Twist. Must read, no lie, get moving.

Sleeping Beauty Retelling

Make sure to read the triggers before beginning this book, and the spice level is hot right from the start.
Rory our sleeping beauty is kidnapped at the start and is taken by Adler, Hayes, Gray and Wade as a payback for her father’s treatment of their families. Truths are revealed and there are some twists along the way. This story had my attention from the start and I loved the way the story evolved. A great read. Was this dark? Oh, yeah. Was it fabulous? For sure. This dark retelling of sleeping beauty was just what I needed. The characters were great—so much depth—and there was so much going on behind the scenes that we slowly learn and boy does it make you see things in a different way. I couldn’t put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen. There are definitely trigger warnings, so make sure you check those out before giving it a read. And the steam in this book? Oh, boy. That’s all I’m going to say. If dark and twisted is just your style, then this is the book for you.

Wicked Dreams

An interesting and super spicy take on Sleeping Beauty. Not a lot I can say without giving away the plot. I liked Rory and her guys. The overall story and conflicts were well done. The only thing I wished we would have had a little more detail on was the dad and fiance. Once you read the story, you'll understand. That's a wish of mine and in no way takes away from the story. I'd definitely recommend. Spicy was there from basically 2nd chapter but make sure you check the authors note/content.

An interesting take on Sleeping Beauty in this why choose, contemporary, fairytale with a twist. Rory finds herself kidnapped by four deliciously, dark men, who want revenge for what her father did to their families. I will say dubcon/noncon aren't usually my thing but I think it worked really well for this story. Lots of secrets come to light throughout the story and there are a couple of twists and turns along the way.

Good read, and another great addition to the Fairytales With A Twist world.

Prime example of why books are better than reality

Let’s get honest. If what happened in this book ACTUALLY happened to you, you’d be messed up for life, but that’s why we like books. Is it the darkest thing I’ve ever read? No, but it’s plenty dark to scratch that itch. I love the twins. I love the doctor. I love all the messed-up things that happen. It’s hot, it’s demented, it’s exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend to all you weirdos!
