Pirates pacified. Void vanquished. Peace is a fragile beast.

Felix has survived the tribulations of the Void and returned to the Continent. Civilization, at long last. Yet the city of Haarwatch has a new, terrible issue.

The Inquisition has arrived to stamp out sorcery and unnatural monstrosities… and Felix still has the Primordial Maw riding shotgun in his soul. Now, he must find his friends and a way to remove a section of his very essence before everything comes crashing down.

All the while, sinister plots in Haarwatch's center promise dire, bloody consequences for anyone who catches the Inquisition’s eye.

While this one was much better than the last book there are still problems with it. The first issue I had was getting over what happened in the last book. I was so disappointed in the last one that I felt kind of closed off to this one to begin with. It took me a while to realize that this book is better. Even with that there are problems. Will litrpg I break my enjoyment down into categories. For the most part all of the stories are pretty much the same in the genre so it is the specifics that I will find enjoyment. those categories are world building, characters, character interactions, magic system, leveling system (powers/stats/fights etc). This one focused so much on the fighting that there was nothing left for any other aspect of the book. The world building was bad. There is a lot of time spent on the political machinations of the people in charge but it all came down to a simple fact: everyone in power sucks. The guild - they are corrupt assholes who are only interested in power. The nobles? They are corrupt assholes who are only interested in power? The inquisition? They are corrupt assholes who are only interested in power. The Elders? They are corrupt assholes who are only interested in power. Do you see a trend here? Not much nuance. Felix is fighting for a city and he only knows about 10 people that live here. So far the regular people are okay but that is only because they don't do anything except get pushed around and almost die until Felix comes and saves them.

The fighting is non stop and the odds are so overwhelming it isn't even funny. And that is how the story starts. The odds gets worse over the course of the book too. It is like Rocky Balboa going up against Drago. Then when he barely wins the fight he has to immediately fight the Predator. Then when he barely survives that fight exhausted and out of energy he has to fight the Terminator. If he wins that he finds out that Godzilla is waiting for him. There is absolutely no time between fights. No time for any character development or character interactions. There are only 3 relationships that I identified in the whole series and all of them have been same sex. There isn't enough information about society to know if this is a common thing or are these the outliers. It seems like a weird choice to only have that type of relationship in a story and present it in an "oh by the way" kind of manor.

There needs to be a little more balance in the story. It can't be about him just fighting to survive anymore. There has to be more. There also can't be the idea that he is a hero and needs to protect everyone else. Maybe get to know the people first before you risk everything you have for them again and again. What is his end goal? What can make him happy? It has been all reaction from the jump and not a single forward thought or plan. Overall, I think it was good enough to continue the series but it won't be high up on my cue when it comes out.

This was another exciting addition to the Unbound series. Felix, although OP, does his best to help others around him. I dig that. I love that he was able to reunite with his friends, and isn't so alone any more... even though he always has the wonderful Pit by his side. This was a long read, but well worth it. I hope there's more coming for Felix, Vess, Evie, Pit and company... 'cause I need more of these people.

This lacks direction.

The MC is just bumbling forward with others choosing his path. This is one of those books where you do not get invested and hope the monsters win. He length drives home the fact that there is no story, just hints of plot ideas yet to come.

So the Author has some sadistic side to punish his MC's. The MC stuck with the Maw in his head after beating it, the Maw basically starts breaking his skills? Why are the other gods sitting back and doing nothing, they should know this is happening. Then he gets no breather, The guild are traitors and can't be trusted to do anything, The Red Coats are zealots and self appointed law seemed to have brought an Army to this small town out in the middle of know where. the author explains NOTHING ON IT, not even the size, just some mana ship that may be able to hold maybe couple hundred soldiers and the vast amount of support this army would need to LIVE in this town was not explained, the reader is just to accept it.

Here we go again with battles that last 3 to 6 chapters long and everyone seems to have a unlimited mana pools to pull skills out of there butts, battles that have no sensible reason to be lasting this long, aside from the author padding the pages with a stupid amount of inner monolog. Then the author is now making revenants that only Felix can damage and only when he transforms?

Let me give you a example of stupid battles. Felix beat the unbeatable Maw, this mother goddess being thing. The next book Felix runs into a 3 vs 3 battle with some red coats humans. Do you think he wipes the floor with them? No, it takes 3 chapters to beat them and he had two allies helping him and he struggles to do so. They just kept spawning gold Mecha armor that skills can't seem to penetrate it? Seriously? AND they can use skills on top of holding that kind of armor in place?

The power slider on these factions need to be adjusted to more realistic levels.

This went from a series that was a bit heavy in fight scenes but has interesting world-building to a book that's 90% fight scene. I listened to the audiobook, but dropped it with the last few hours left because the few hours before that had been all fight scene. I know some people like fight scenes, but I find them mind-numbingly boring, and I can only put up with the audio yammering on about what amounts to nothing for so long. We all know the protagonist is going to win the fight scenes, so what do they really add to the book? Seriously, I could cut out several hours / chapters and replace it with "then they fought their way to XYZ" and the book would have the same entertainment value.

I don't plan on reading any subsequent books in this series, and I think you'd better off stopping after the second book even if the plot feels incomplete.

High fantasy with scrumptious action

Litrpg with a mix of High fantasy, high stakes action prevalent with recent books abound in the 3rd iteration of Unbound series. MC is OP as hell and with insane plot armour but we love each and every scene of non stop action. Definitely looking forward to reading how chimera, mc and our motley crew if friends will combat the archon in next book.

Unbound vs Dragon? you know the answer

From Royalroad to Amazon the story formatted once more into book 3 of the Unbound series for both new and old readers. The story is a continuation of book picking right where 2 end with many new things from edits to new dialog to keep the reader infraed.

Lay I read the old draft from Royalroad the new edition released was a joy of read in my opinion. It covers many new mystery of the lore of the story and In my opinion one of the crazy fights because will dragon what else. This lead to the story been a blast, but you should know the story does reach over a thousand pages.

With all that it comes to show how mugh a beast of RPGlit story genre Nocil is has he expands a world that grows with each book like LotR.

Meh

LitRPG is a type of hard magic system that I love. But this story goes further and further away from that strength toward a nebulous, metaphysical soft magic system that is riddled with plot armor and forced plot points. If the author wanted a soft magic system, they shouldn't have written a litRPG.

The enemies are ridiculously disproportionate in strength to the MC, which causes the story to lose all narrative tension. The MC should not have survived.

Everything that made this story good in the beginning is slowly disappearing.

Not for me

Too much of a liberal perspective for me to enjoy the series. Started off ok but liberal logic i just cant relate to. I stopped listening to the series about an hour before the 3rd book ended--just seemed like the story became all about pushing an agenda instead of telling a story.

4.5 stars. I am thrilled to be done with the Maw! I was quite fearful that Felix would have to struggle against her for several more books. I was very glad to see the team reunion and their acceptance of the MC's truths.

Too long

I like a nice long book, but this could have been cut down. It wasn't necessary to see a lot of other character's perspectives and caused the story to unnecessary broken up.

So Felix finally makes it to Haarwatch after escaping the Void only to clash with the Redcloaks upon arrival. Yeah, our MC can never catch a break. Dragon Ball Z length fights soon commences. The mechanics of the story can get pretty weighty and I had to re-read some passages and some grammatical errors sort of hindered the story but not to the extent that I didn’t understand what the author meant. Still gonna read the next book. Bit of a cliffhanger at the end…on to book four.

book three

Mistakes: I only found a couple and have posted them on GoodReads.

Plot: The group is back together and boy is there a lot going on. A little politics and a lot of fighting.

Characters: The side characters aren’t really needed. They are rather shallow and don’t have much depth. Deepest thing about some of them is that they are in love, lusting after, or married to the same sex. What is the deal with screaming out stupid skill names? Really this just lets your enemy know exactly what you are doing.

7/10

Over 1,000 pages of intensity

It took me a while to finish this. Massive amounts of combat, overwhelming power, training, political machinations…the only thing this book *doesn’t* have is sex.

The MC is OP, but with devastating weaknesses that make him vulnerable to his main opponents for much of the book.

More please.

Like the story but too much arcane gobbledygook

The MC and his crew take on corrupt nobles and the fanatical inquisition who both have plans to prosper their agendas by destroying the dungeon that is the true power of the city. They are legends in their own minds and their schemes are just about guaranteed to end badly. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, especially Vess and Evie, although Hern is no slouch either.

It was overwhelming that the Primordial Maw had to be defeated, then destroyed, then imprisoned, then destroyed again, then have her mind and essence finally consumed before the MC could get rid of her. Oh wait, we still have "the father" and his minions to deal with in the next book. Hopefully the scheming nobles, especially Teine and DuFont will reap the consequences of their actions as did Master Inquisitor Katan.

I was saddened but not surprised that Magda stayed dead so she is not relevant other than as a memory or a martyr. My major complaint is the super destructive battles against overwhelming numbers of opponents, again and again and yet again. They are like Energizer bunnies that just keep on going and going to the point that the story loses believability. Whilst this is going on, the MC is being beaten up, flayed, ripped apart, stabbed and mentally rended yet it all works out for him as mumbo jumbo, chicken gumbo arcane descriptions of skills and levels fly thick and furious. Its getting a bit much. Yet l do like the story but would appreciate more focus on the story and less distraction with stats, arcane descriptions, harmonics and Sigils

Another fantastic book in the series. A great reveal on Felix's ever growing bloodline and a new plot twist in the first chapter of #4, which I've aleady started. It's definitely one of my favorite litRPG stories, up there with He Who Fights With Monsters. Felix doesn't have the Jason Asano snark, but he's a good character trying to figure out his weird place in a weirder world, and he and Pit make a great team. Who wouldn't want a Chimera for a pet?

Some people have complained that Felix is OP. He isn't really considering what he's gone through to stay live, and how he was thrown to the monsters literally from the beginnng. It was either figure it out and survive or die. By the seat of his pants, Felix figured it out and the system rewarded him. Felix doesn't look for trouble, but it seems to look for him.

I only have two criticisms, which are not deal breakers for me, but I do notice it. The first is the some of the characters sound too much alike. Harn is an exception. But Vess, Evie and Felix have similar speech patterns. The fights can be too long, they're well-done, but I'll skim over some of the details to get to the meat.

I read a lot, and I read a lot of many genres, from spy thrillers, action thrillers, epic fantasy, science fiction, traditionally published and indie published. Of all, the Unbound series is one of my favorites.

Fun story, but the MC needs to stop just reacting to everything

Once again, Felix is just reacting to everything rather than engaging and understanding. He grew his skills here, but if he had actually followed through any of the many times he’s ‘decided’ to learn sigaldry, he might have had something more of a clue of what he had to do - and the result would have been less about having a gut feeling for the ‘right’ answer to an incredibly complex construction.

Having said that, I did enjoy the development of the plot and am excited to see if Felix will actually, finally, start looking at some of his quests as perhaps more than happenstance - maybe completing them might help him with his own goals…

Book is entirely too long,

First of all let me say I enjoyed the book. The problem was that the book is entirely too long, pages and pages of fight sequences. I enjoy the characters especially how Felix is growing. but during the fight sequences I had to skip several pages because they went on interminably. The other problem I found is that in a lot of these lit RPG books the author uses the MC as a pin cushion. We know that the MC is not going to die so Y turn him or her into a punching bag? The book could’ve been cut down by several hundred pages and would have made an excellent book. since the storyline is intriguing, I am going on to read the next book in the series.

Extremely long and complicated battles

Overall the book wasn't bad, but I did not like the ending. The battle descriptions were the problem in my opinion. They take up a lot of pages, especially the last one. Not only are they long, but very wordy, complicated, and convoluted. The author should stick with a story instead of focusing mainly on these tiresome battles. Not sure I would recommend continuing this series.

Another great sequel! I can't wait for book 4. This book has to be the best one yet, way better than book 1, and way way better than book 2. This was a big chunk of a book that took forever to read, it's something I enjoyed reading and listening to. It's another book I have to add to the " best books of this year" list. I really liked this book, and I think it was performed really well. No, I know this book was performed really well. Nicoli went all out in this book, and I bet he'll do better in book 4!.

We're also gonna be talking about the narration.
Travis does good as always, he always does good. He is one of my favorite narrators ever!, he has such a soothing voice that just calms you and makes your day better, he has such variety of voices it's crazy. Every single voice is different, I really don't know how he does it. He is a truly talented narrator. I rate the narration a 5 star.

Since this is the 3rd book we're just gonna sum up everything.

I like where this book went, and how it ended. It was exciting all the way till the end. There is alot of skill progression and action, I loved every single bit of it. He progressed alot, alot. He earned new skills and he got more fighting experience. The characters are also good, I feel like the writing held more depth in this book. I feel a real connection with all the characters, especially Felix. The plot also was really good, the direction this book went to, and they way the plot/story all just came together is perfect.
The plot is a 5 star, the characters are a 5 star, the fighting is a 5 star.

I really liked this story, one of the best ones I've read recently. I 100 percent recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a good sequel. I honestly can't wait for book 4, and when it comes out I'll for sure be reading it.

Great read! Much better than book 2. Fast paced and thrilling.

So.. book two has been redeemed as this book( book 3) has everything right in the world again! Fast paced, really great plot-lines and character development. This book, rather long, was well done. The author redeemed himself from book 2 where the main character was forced into every situation. This book allowed the main characters free will to decide his actions within the events that were forced upon him. It really makes all the difference to the reader when the author can create this type of writing. I bought this whole series unknowing of what I would discover and I was a little put off by my disappointments in book 2, however book three has revived my interest and excitement in Reading every page of the coming books. This is a really good series that I'll probably read more than once, as the author builds the game Dynamics within the main character is it times convoluted and extremely complicated to grasp because you are trying to read the pages fast as excitement grabs you wondering what's going to happen. I find when authors can create that type of excitement in their work, rereading the works creates new and exciting nuances that you didn't pick up in your first reading because the imagery of the words were so broad. Books like this may not be literature that will last through the ages... But these stories are why I continue to read!

I should not be able to skip 40 pages in a book, and feel like I missed nothing. Book 1 was tolerable for a book 1 of a isekai litrpg (MC drops in strange world and fights to survive). But book 2 was a nonsense repeat of book 1 (MC drops in strange world and fights to survive, but spooky this time). All the while the MC accomplishes... nothing... in 2.5 books (outside of not dying and getting more and more OP). Does he defeat the BBEG from book 1? No, it just becomes an annoying hanger-on that the author uses as an excuse to make the story keep going in circles. BBEG from 2? Nope, same BBEG, same fight, different day. BBEG from 3? seems to be the same BBEG and I dont even care any more. Does he see any personal growth from book 1 to 3? Nope, starts the book as an unconfident idiot with naive morals and a hero complex, halfway through book 2.5 still the same unconfident idiot with naive morals and a hero complex. Does he SAVE anybody or anything, arguably a resounding NO (In books 1 & 2, and first half of 3 the only one he effectively saves is himself). The MC might as well be a frustrating ghost that spits in the wind. This. is. a. bad. series.

I love this series. It is insane. The world building, the friendships, enemies, quests, battles, war, all of it. And I also love that it has Gay, Lesbian, and Gay relationships in it.

It is an incredibly long book/series, so if you do not like to read A LOT, don't even try.

Don't start or read this series If you read very slow, or don't like long books/series as this series is around 8,000 pages long, and each book ranges from 500 to 900 pages each. It's its incredible series, but it is not for the faint of heart or the low on time.

SPOILER
Ware all who enter: Felix is Unbound, from Earth, and summoned to the Continent. He is being leveled by the goddess Vellus as well as the Unending Mae who has tampered with him and his skills and race for both good and ill. He will have to sunder his skills to repair himself from the damage the maw has done. Only once he eats her and becomes a Primordial Nym does he truly begin to repair the damage and become something/someone to be feared.

MC just stops leveling

There is a point in this story where the main character, for not explicable reason, stops leveling. Everyone else levels, the main characters skills level, but he himself does not. This especially sucks because the ‘boss’ fight features a section where the enemy, who is 30 level above the Mc, levels off the adds the Mc is fighting to make it to the boas fight.

This books is poorly written. The Mc loses stats, has broken skills, and all this is in service of making the Mc weaker while at the same time powering up his enemies. It makes every fight fucking suck, as the mc will constantly remember to use skills, then never use them again. This is not even including how the bosses have multiple phases, so the underpowered mc will be near death the whole fight only for the author to deus ex machina an ending.

Pure trash made by and for someone with a low IQ

DNF at 19% when the monsters started invading Haarwatch, and the MMC Felix had to battle it out in the streets as the "mysterious stranger."

While there was plenty of fighting, Felix didn't seem to have any interesting growth, and he was still so clueless about everything from his race, his magic skills, the Maw, and his current world's society. 80% of the people around him were selfish villains, and while I am a sucker for animal sidekicks and loved the chimera Pit, there wasn't enough there to hold my interest to continue slogging through this journey.
