Against claims that Origen causes History to evaporate into barren idealism, his theology is shown to have no other source and aim than historical occurences. Fronting assertions that he has no eschatological ideas, this Eschatology is explicated in all its clarity. Light is cast upon the Aristotelian character of Origens doctrine of apokatastasis, proving this based on ontological necessity, not a historical one.
A brilliant book that articulates the complexities and intellect of Origen of Alexandria. Tzamalikos traces the influencers of Origen and how he developed a philosophy of history that heavily influenced his eschatology. Tzamalikos also walks through how this understanding of history influenced Origen’s teaching on universal reconciliation, the end of the ages, the incarnation of the Word, and many other key theological topics that are discussed in On First Principles. This is not an easy read, and would make little sense without prior study of Origen’s teachings, but nonetheless is helpful in setting the stage for how the Alexandrian viewed history and its end.
