What is my purpose? Where is my place? What is the point?
Within a culture of confusion, we need something to anchor ourselves in – or rather, someone. The God Story invites you to find yourself and your purpose within God’s overarching and awe-inspiring plans for humanity.
Faithfully unfolding the narrative of Scripture in a chronological yet poetic way, The God Story welcomes you to immerse yourself in the sacred themes of scripture – from work and rest, to sexuality and justice – whilst reinforcing the truth we can build our lives that God is love.
Exploring three common threads that permeate the pages of the Bible – the presence paradigm, the family paradigm, and the Kingdom paradigm - The God Story pulls us into a deeper knowledge of God, encouraging prayer, reflection and worship.
It is time to be enchanted afresh by the story of Scripture and in doing so to find personal fulfilment, transformation, and the inspiration to make a difference in today's world.
Watched an interview of author Adam Cox and immediately ordered. Got teary eyed countless times while reading. Kinda like a succinct version of the Bible Project vids through a macro lens. Straight gas!!!
I had the privilege to hear Adam Cox teach at A Place for the Heart in 2018. His connection to the humanity of Jesus and ability to synthesize themes spanning the entire Bible into digestible narrative is incredible. Grateful for this beautiful book which will catch you up in the story you are already a part of!
An excellent concept, spelling out the whole story of the Bible in twelve simple chapters, summarising the events whilst linking them to the ongoing themes and 'God story' that develops throughout. The authors do a brilliant job at shining new light on the material, and contextualising it in fresh and exciting ways. 4 stars.
So my mom bought me this book. She's apparently religious all of a sudden and is shooting this shit down my throat. She bought me this book along with a few others. I keep telling her I'm not interested but she's my mom so I'll give the books she got me a read.
Okay so backstory out of the way. This is absolutely the wrong book to read if you know nothing about Christianity. It recounts all of these "events" like you should already know them and just briefly glosses over everything. You should also have faith before reading this book because it is almost like a reminder book, to help you yourself recount things you've already learned in the past.
As much as I wanted to poke holes in the story (which I definitely did) I wanted to give it a fair shot. Like I said I think it's the wrong book for someone new getting into this sort of thing. Also too much "hey this is all historical fact and you need to believe this amazing story." Like with most religions, there are good morals to be taken away and some thought provoking-ness into truly looking at yourself and trying to improve. Not for me though.
I would describe the idea behind The God Story as twofold: (1) to understand the context of the scriptures through a panoramic perspective and (2) to offer an on-ramp to the knowledge of the Author himself. This way of approaching the scriptures has been nothing short of revolutionary for me personally, and I trust that the hard, heartfelt work that Adam and Alain have done here will be a resource for others to experience the same.
God, open our eyes to see wonderful things from Your Word. Take us out of our personal dramas and into Your story.
A great survey through the Bible, focusing on God's love and his heart for people...I appreciate the way the authors tie the scriptures together to tell a unified story. Sometimes it's easy to lose the forest for the trees. This book helps to anchor us in God's love for humankind and for each of us individually.
My thanks to the authors. Oh, I also enjoyed hearing the authors read the book in their own voices. The compassion and care with which they narrate lends even greater weight to their words.
God’s story is our story - Our story is God’s story
If you struggling with life and feeling a bit hopeless, this book is for you. It reminds the reader that we are living God’s story in the here and now. The authors show the value of faith, hope and endurance in dark times. The words open your heart to embody the story and share it with everyone, loving as Jesus loved. Bringing all into the family. In this particular time in our country, it gave me hope.
This is a really helpful book unpacking the grand narrative that sweeps through the Bible, from beginning to end, with a specific focus on three themes 1) the presence of God 2) the family of God 3) the kingdom of God
It is not dry and academic, but invitational and relational in style, the aim of the authors is to encourage readers to encounter God's presence, see ourselves as invited into the family, and recognise our part in God's kingdom.
An excellent book on the whole narrative of scripture. While I am familiar with the content, the authors did an excellent job of writing the story of the Bible in a fresh way. Some quotes were powerful. Would recommend this to anyone curious about the Bible, or both new and longtime followers of Jesus!
This is a wonderful way to share with new believers. It is thorough although compact. They do not skimp on content and breathe life into the new or searching Christian.
