Some nice character growth, the fight scenes are getting more epic, and the plot ratchets up the stakes in all directions. This was a bit of a filler and plot-advancer volume, but it was well done and looking forward to the showdown promised by the cliffhanger. I'm also really coming to enjoy the explanations of spiritual and historical terms at the end; shows the good job the author did in blending and making a compelling pastiche horror environment out of Tao and chi!

**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE! 🥺

Too many flashbacks that have now scarred me. I fear for all of their lives next volume as this manga seems to be picking up to a climax that I am not ready for. I want to finish all of this but also am not prepared for it to be over.

*me singing: Another one bites the dust.. And another one gone and another one gone* As we go through the Tensen. (hehehehehe)

seeing shion and nurugai come to terms with their grief together was so beautiful. also, love shion going from a cold sensei to a caring father-like figure for nurugai.

We keep up the big fight from the last book and more!

This time the brother and sister fuse into one omega forced monster. In doing so it takes all 4 warriors to team up, and they couldn't be more different. Of course this series somehow made me like a character I hated till now, and he's a badass in this, doing some of the most stunning fight moves while also giving great character development. The end to this fight actually was happy which I did NOT expect.

We also get our blind badass fighter to finally accept grief and do what he must, which is such a powerful scene and Really well done.

Then we get a little slowdown with explanation of what might be coming. This ends with the arrival of the ninja/samurai group, which I feel is only going to make things much more messy...And I'm here for it.

A 4.5 out of 5.

Ok I was really scared that Chobe and Shion were gonna die. Shion gave his whole farewell speech, his life story and his current raison d’être. It was a recipe for death but at least we got to see Tenza again. Which means we had to experience his death again whilst fearing that Shion was gonna die. And he’s not even in the clear now that the new comers have arrived at the palace. Was it worth seeing Tenza again though? Maybe...Chobe was here thinking about how much his brother has grown and thinking that terrible thought “he doesn’t need me anymore” which doesn’t mean you get to die. Please dear author, keep these brother safe.

The two fights this volume were great and in such different ways. There was a lot of emotion in both of the. Ju Fa and Tao Fa actually gave emotion, especially in that little scene of them as children holding onto each other. And this was a fight where the brothers caught equally and separately. Fushi with Toma were a good strategic pair and Gentatsu and Chobe were chaos. It was great. I was wrong about Chobe not joining them. Thankfully. And then we get Shion and Nurugai against Zhou Jin. This was a slog of two people at their ends. But Nurugai never gave up and the hug was so sweet. Very entertaining fights with sweet moments.

There’s gonna be disaster next volume. Shugen and co have arrived and Rien is off to kill everyone in Japan. Let it be good.

And I agree. The eyepatch looks better at an angle.

MY FAVORITE VOLUME SO FAR

”Those who steal lives could never understand while those they’ve stolen from will never forget.”

Ju Fa and Tao Fa backstories moved me somehow :(

It’s hurt to see Shion and Nurugai grieving and I’m still crying over Tenza’s death till this volume. But his death is surely of a big help to those two’s characters development! And Shion’s eyesight related jokes will forever be the most humorous and cutest thing happened in this series TT

All the tensions and fight scenes were SUPERB. What a great artwork?!

I’m so excited yet scared to continue the next volume (Shugen has finally reached them) that said, just you wait for few more hours and I’ll have finished up all the rest volumes :)

Series: Hell's Paradise #9
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

In this volume, we continue the battle against the Tensens. Chobe, Toma, Gantesusai and Fuchi team up to fight the merged creature that is Tao Fa and Ju Fa, while Shio and Nurugai fight Zhu Jin. Both of these battles were great. I really can’t wait to see them animated when the anime comes out. This volume ends with the Igwarkure ninjas and Yamata Asemon backup arriving at the palace. I can’t wait to see Gabimaru’s battle against the Igwarkure ninjas.

Trigger Warnings: violence; gore; child death

Another action packed volume with a real interest spin of a cliffhanger!
Just when the humans think they have half their does beat, the monsters fuse like a Yu-Gi-Oh card. Thankfully there's some tried and true short term truce.
I admire Shion's determination, that man is all gas no brakes. The ole "keep hammering it till it's broke". Nice to see Tenzen continue to affect him and Nurugai after his death. They are all each other has now.

POV you're me realizing you only have 4 more volumes left.

ANYWAY. super stoked to see where things go as we wrap up. fight choreo is off the charts, can't wait to see it animated, and the influx of new characters and their motivations came at the perfect time. can't wait to see this part animated.

The death of Ju Fa and Tao Fa - becoming one evil embodiment of love and then before dying reverting back to the little kids they once were was so sad and truly an epic moment.

Tenza gives nurugai the power to believe in herself and battle the Fa’s.

Only just ok because so much of the story is about figuring out which moves to use- just fight!

Ugh, underwhelming. The Fan siblings battle outcome was too similar with the red light street from “Demon Slayer”, so I didn’t like it. Also, Shion’s battle ended too fast and Nurugai is a disappointing character. We’re 86 chapters in and she hasn’t done anything relevant. Overall, this volume was frustrating because the last two volumes were great.

Chronique complète :
https://sunread26.wordpress.com/2025/...

Extrait :

“THOSE WHO STEAL LIVES COULD NEVER UNDER-STAND.”

“WHILE THOSE THEY'VE STOLEN FROM...

...WILL NEVER FORGET...”

The fight continues, or should I say really starts between the Aza’s and Tamiya and Asaemon Fuchi, where they take on an amalgamation of the Tensen Ju Fa and Tao Fa. This was another bombastic fight, and getting to see the four fight seamlessly together, despite the egos that Chobe and Tamiya have, was so fun. And the character growth for Toma, both physically and emotionally, has been paying off nicely. Mei and Sagiri are greeted by another of the Tensen, and the plan we discover of Rien to make landfall in Woguo and make Tan out of all humans is horrifying. Shion holding down his fight while still training Nurugai and testing his own limits on the Tensen was great to see. His will to see the avenging of the fallen Asaemon Tenza was such a driving force that it could be seen on every page. The end finally has the new arrivals on the island meeting out cast and crew, and the small but immediate fight was fun to see, and the setup for the next chapter is very exciting to see what comes next.

The single most gorgeous cover yet. Definitely need to buy a physical copy.

Chobe and Toma being absolute cruel, unhinged gremlins to Tao Fa and Ju Fa was so entertaining. Love those guys and their dynamic.

"Even as I lost a loved one before my eyes... I made the right choice. How unforgivable."

Shion is probably my favorite character in this manga, and I loved the self-loathing and survivor's guilt taking him over here, into this sad display of self-destructive attrition as nothing matters to him but revenge in Tenza's name. And that just made it all the more powerful when Nurugai, who was inspired by Tenza to seek out life for herself, takes it upon herself to take on Tenza's blade and give Shion motivation to live. One of the best scenes in the manga.

Shugen is here and that's not good! (I do hope he does something concrete soon, I feel like I've been saying a variation of that for the past four or five volumes. He's always very cool, but I do need him to have a bit more to do relative to the main plot, rather than being just an ominous presence in the background.)

What the hell did Gabimaru mean when he said 'Gabimaru' like that?
