NASCAR team owner Chad Matheson is most comfortable when he's in control. But his control took a time-out during a few days in Las Vegas—and he impulsively wed hotel heiress Brianna Hudson. The marriage lasted only one night, though, before they both had second thoughts….
Two years later Brianna holds the keys to a much-needed sponsorship for Chad's team, and Chad is determined to keep things between them strictly business. But he knows he's fighting a losing battle. Because where Brianna is concerned, the atmosphere is anything but professional. And the last thing he needs is anyone finding out that, legally, they're still Mr. and Mrs.!
I write funny, tender romance novels for Harlequin Superromance and Love Inspired Historical.
My next book to be released is That New York Minute, out in April 2012.
I like to set aside some of my writing time for experimental projects - I'm currently trying my hand at a humorous women's fiction novel, and I also finished a Young Adult manuscript.

I have this group of friends that when we say Gentleman's Bet what we are wagering isn't a small sum, or a pint of ale, but a much more serious commitment: the loser has to read a book of the winner's choosing. This has kept many disagreements at bay; to stand down rather than have to read Infinite Jest (a friend's loss to me, forced to read this book, causing him to never enter this wager with me again) or something much more frightening for those of my friends who aren't voracious readers.
So I lost a bet last week, and this was my assigned book. I am woefully ignorant of everything NASCAR (although I loved Sunday Money: A Year Inside the NASCAR Circuit) and have never read a Harlequin Romance novel. For 213 pages I was in unchartered territory.
I won't bother with a rating because this genre of book wasn't written for me. I did, however, think that the term bodice ripper came with much more gratuitous sex - my wife told me that's because I grew up in PornCulture. It's a novelization of three weeks of a soap opera storyline. Predictable, hamfisted, one dimensional ... you get the picture.
There's a whole other side of why this book? that I can't state on my review, but if you private message me, I'll explain why I was given this specific book to read.
Anyway, debt paid. Book report given to the victor. And yes, sometimes you can tell a book by its cover.
Checkered Past by Abby Gaines Harlequin NASCAR Library NASCAR: Hidden Legacies Book 3 Chad Matheson is part owner of Matheson Racing and is known as the Boss because of the way he controls everything. When he meets and marries someone after only a few days it’s all great until she says she wants to be on his team. No how, no way. Business and personal is separate in his life. Seems she couldn’t live with that idea. She wanted it all, all of him. It was a short-lived honeymoon.
Brianna Hudson is heiress to Getaway Hotels. When her father gets sick and asks her to do a job for him she sees it as her last chance to gain his approval. His love. Problem is he wants her to look at two NASCAR teams that he may want to sponsor. One of those teams is run by the very man she hasn’t seen for almost two years and yet thinks of everyday. The Matheson's were first introduced in Back On Track with Trent's story. In that book a romance started with the their father Brady and his secretary Julie-Anne and continues in this book. The last brother, Zack, will have his story told in The Comeback. This book continues with another mystery that is happening in Dean and Patsy Grosso’s life, a new clue is revealed to renew their hopes. Book four, From The Outside, is Mallory Dalton’s, Tara’s sister from the first book in this series, story. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
I feel like this rating should come with a disclaimer. I don't consider these books to be very literary or amazing pieces of writing. I do consider them to be fun and something I can read in one day on a few plane rides. Thus I do hold them to a different standard than most books I read. I enjoyed it, I laughed a little and passed time quickly on a long layover. It was pretty good.
