A cursed, beautiful monster saved my life. But no one can save me from myself… from being fae.
After the fae prince stole my mortal life, I end up trapped in the fae court alongside him. The fae court is full of immortal, secretive and deceptive fae, but I’m not alone.
I have my own court in the shadows, and they have wings.
The fae prince has taken my ward and demands my help to find missing fae children in exchange for keeping him safe.
King Emerson comes to court for me.
The first time in centuries he has entered the world of fae publicly. He was once my enemy, almost a lover, and turns out we have known each other over many lifetimes.
But it doesn’t mean I can trust him or love him. Even if loving him seems impossible to avoid.
The curse is broken, the Wyern’s are free, but at what cost?
In the shadows and darkness lies more than just the Wyern Monsters.
The Rift is open.
Heir of Monsters is a full-length paranormal Monster Romance with mature themes. This is a spicy, enemies to lovers romance and is recommended for 17+. Book Two of Five.
G. Bailey is a USA Today bestselling author of books that are filled with everything from dragons to pirates. Plus, fantasy worlds and breath-taking adventures. Oh, and some swoon-worthy men that no girl could forget. G. Bailey is from the very rainy U.K. where she lives with her husband, two children and three cheeky dogs.
2.5 / 5.0 well, actually it began at the end of the last book. There is little plot progression here, actually negative character development, and even less romance than the first book. So, that being said, no more of these for me thanks. The new covers are beautiful but the writing is pretty basic and the books are very stale.
After reading the first book in the Wyern Clan series I knew that I was gonna be hooked and that feeling is now cemented with Possession of Monsters. The second book in the series was mind-blowingly good with intrigue, action, deception, and so many twists and turns. Gods, it was good.
Well, Calli is fae now due to the evil prince and things will never be the same. Calli has struggled with so much and has lost so much and now her mortality is added to that list. Funnily enough, Calli is still Calli, snarky, sarcastic, funny, stubborn, and has the biggest heart. Even after all the betrayal, she's willing to open up, understand and forgive. Because of that things between Calli and Emerson progress very nicely by moving forward romantically. They make such a good couple and a certain phrase is on everyone's mind while Calli just refuses to acknowledge it but it's beyond obvious how deep feelings run especially since Emerson has the "touch her and die " vibe going on.
The more I get to know Calli the more I like her. She's easy to like, and she's managed to grow the strangest family, Emerson, and his brood, Zurine, Louie, Posy (all though the bat has way too much attitude), and a slew of others. After the air is cleared Callie grows closer to Zurine whose own tragic past is revealed and I have to say I like the woman even more after this book. Then there is Lorenzo, Emerson's brother who is a great friend to Callie and their friendship grows even more in this one. Zurine isn't the only one whose past is revealed and it looks like everyone close to Callie has some tragic story.
This plot called to my soul, Bailey just through one thing after another at readers, things just came out of nowhere. The number of lies and the secrets people hold was crazy but even crazier was where the plot went. There is something in the basement, the prince is crazier than I realized, more betrayal, fancy balls, pretty clothes, cool magic, a bunch of supernatural leaders were introduced, there was a visit to the witch city, critical events of the past was revealed, and things aren't what they seem. I was intrigued every step of the way.
I loved every single, surprising moment of Possession of Monsters. The book ended with not only a few jaw-dropping revelations but also ended on one helluva cliffhanger. The end of this book was a dumpster fire, I can't even fathom how things are gonna go in the next book but I am so beyond ready for Conquest of Monsters.
As I could not put the first three books of this series down, I will be reviewing Heir of Monsters, and Possession of Monsters and Conquest of Monsters together; the review will be posted on all three of the books, and will not contain spoilers.
This series is so addictive. G. Bailey has created a fascinating world that follows Calliophe, a half fae with no power and no knowledge of her lineage who spent her whole childhood haunted by a monster attempting to take her life. It is only when she is hired by Emerson, the king of the Wyverns, to track down his missing sister, that the truth begins to unravel.
I think one of the things that really captivates me whilst reading is a love for the characters: I adored Calliophe, her best friend, and all of the Wyvern clan. That, with the interesting world building of Wyvcelm, made the first three books so easy to get through. The cliffhangers at the end, however, are absolutely brutal, and I've been having serious withdrawals waiting for Veil of Monsters with that ending.
I think that there are a couple of plot holes at some points, and it is a shame that the books get progressively shorter as I feel as if they could have all worked at a similar length with the intensity of everything that is going on, but they were all enjoyable reads nevertheless.

The first book in this series must be read before starting this one as this book picks up where the first one left off. I finished this book in one sitting and I enjoyed it a lot. It ends with a cliffhanger and I'm excited to read the next book. This was very descriptive story and I enjoyed that a lot. It also had suspense, surprises, betrayal, secrets, friendships, enemies, threats, steamy scenes, scheming and more. I love Calliope and Emerson even more in this story. The chemistry between them was undeniable and I'm excited to read how things work out for them in the next book. Calli has gotten a second chance even though she's not the person she once was, in some ways she's better. Emerson will do anything to protect what's his, and the prince is doing everything in his power to become King. No one is safe. The curse if finally broken, the Rift is open, shadow creatures are attacking, and children are going missing. A lot of truths are finally revealed before a deadly cliffhanger ending but there's still a lot more that needs to be revealed. I hope the prince gets what he is deserves in the end and I can't wait to see how it happens. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series, I just hate that I have to wait until next year before it releases.
You have got to be kidding me!!! Super cliffhanger just like the first book. You know your just ROTFL because everyone that reads this book is yelling and screaming Why?? Super intense and so much pent up passion between the two that needs to be let loose , its like really.. But this one will have you reading non stop its so Awesome that you won't be able to stop.. What will happen in book 3? And we have to wait till next year to find out Ugh!!! The waiting period !! Hang on tight when you read this one, its a bumpy ride .. This book was reviewed by a Book Loving Vixen .
2nd in the series and it was great some questions where answered from the 1st book but now theres even more that need answering in the next.
I love calliope and Emerson's chemistry and their destined love and i also love the relationships that calliope has and the loyalty that have between them.
It has a great storyline with great world and character building with twists and turns around every corner.
i cant wait to see what the next book brings 😁 roll on next year.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book, the series, characters, just everything is absolutely amazing! Bailey is an awesome author who creates amazing worlds. However, the cliff on this story is a doozy, and I’m very sad that the next book won’t be out until May of 2023. Whhhhhyyyyy!? 😩 I am seriously hoping for an early release, as I need to know what happens with the story! 🤞💯❤️ it’s a slow burn, so a little steam throughout the book and there are some triggers, so be prepared.
I guess these are the times I hate being a mood reader. I loved the 1st book I read last yr, but the 2nd book wasn't out yet. Which sucked because I had a feeling if I hadn't read the books right after one another, I knew I'd loose the vibes the 1st one gave me w/such time spacing it out. Which it seems it has. I hated calli through this entire read. She's supposed to be smart & savy, yet in this book she comes off as stupid naive new fae that just stumbles along, thennact indignant all the while when things just "happen to her".
Dnf !! Wannabe acotar. And not in a good way.. I really like me some Emerson. I mean, he is Rhysand.. but that is about the only good thing in this book.. The "lust" /chemistry they claim is so prevalent, i just dont see it.. in the first book it was hot, in this one, not. he went down on her and I was like, ehm ok, what? No build up.. it just fell flat. And the way she forgave him, without hearing the whole story.. without him really saying anything.. The list goes on and on.. I stopped caring about her and she was pretty badass in the first book. What a disappointment
Oh my goodness! Ok this author has aced the cliff hanger portion of writing. I’m in shock. I’m in several shocks actually. I keep getting blindsided and bopped in the head lol. I’m not sure I’m prepared for any thing harder or darker because my heart keeps breaking. And then there’s something beautiful and the crazies ruin it again!! All I can say is this series is something special. I cannot put it down and I’ve been blown away! Come on Calli! I’m cheering so hard for you!!!
I wanted to like this series. I truly did. I gave it a shot.
A whole lot of nothing happened in this book. No character progression. Very little plot progression.
This is the 2nd time now that the big bad reveals all in a jarringly sudden villain speech that ends on a cliffhanger.
Cliffhangers aren't actually good. No one likes them. They're frustrating at best of times and dull at the worst of times. You end up missing a vital part of actual writing, and it makes the book feel unfinished.
Omg this series just gets better and better. I absolutely couldn’t wait too read more of Calli & Emerson’s story and of course I wasn’t disappointed at all. This story and characters will definitely have you hooked. I love Emerson & Calli together. The story is interesting and the ending wtf I need the next book ASAP.
I really wanted to like this book, but jeezuz christ my head hurts now. The author's writing style is mind numbing, the dialect is cryptic, and the book is all-around poorly written. I truly feel like a 9th grade Twilight fan wrote this back in 2009.
I read 40% of the book, and finally gave up. Please excuse me while I go take an Excedrin.
It isn't that this book was necessarily bad, it just didn't have the same kind of pace as the first. I devoured the first book, so jumped head first into this expecting the same and it just fell a little... flat. Not sure now if I'll continue to the third, but it may be a series I revisit purely for the sake of completion!
Overall this series is based on an interesting storyline. Creative plot twists & backstories. However, the author tends to rush through scenes & can feel choppy. I will finish the series, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend to anyone.
This book was a shorter read but was fantastic with all the action and court politics. It aksi brought tears to my eyes with the cliffhanger. Thankfully, I already have book 3.
Calli is bow fae turned and learning of hernl past lives and stuck in the fae court because of the prince. This book will make you want him dead and to learn more of where she comes from.
Well, that was definitely climatic. I kinda saw what was happening. Tok bad no one put the pieces together. These two are definitely going to take there time to finally be together for sure!
I really like this series. Really have to pay attention to all the twists and turns. I would like to see the 2 main characters develop more into their relationship, but this ending just killed me ...on to the next.
Omg love this series so far.. wow G. Bailey you are amazing.. can’t wait to read the third one.A bit of Surprise towards the end.. Didn’t see that coming.
I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters. I can't wait to see what will happen next for them and what of Callie being forced into the portal.
Poorly written and did not like the writing style. Was going to stop reading half way because of it, but I pushed through and will not be continuing on in the series.
