And…
It will show them through these gorgeous illustrations how amazing the Earth’s poles are – from the Artic and Antarctic.
Readers will see plants, animals, and how we humans can help them.
The beauty of this experience for kids is that…
Children can read along with parents and/or learn about this in the classroom.
And this book also will give…
Readers glimpses of clever orcas and penguins, globe-trotting terns (seabirds) and sharks, and learn how the Earth’s coldest and harshest environments support many creatures great and small – in and under the water, too.
"The Frozen Worlds: The astonishing nature of the Arctic and the Antarctic" is a nicely presented book about Earth's polar regions showing how they are "hostile places" but also "places of awesome beauty and wonder". The content is split across four chapters:
* "What is the Arctic and Antarctic?" * "Arctic life." * "Antartctic life." * "The frozen worlds and me" - containing a bit about climate change, but also things like the blue whales story, from near extinction, to protecting the species and its comeback.
This is a book from DK publishing. You always know with DK that there will be great, full-colour graphic design, and there will be no lack of quality photos, and that is the case here, right from the off with an epic photo of a massive iceberg showing the parts above and below the waterline with the caption "most of icebergs lie beneath the water's surface", right through to a picture captioned "a humpback whale's tail breaks through the surface of the water in Antarctica." In between there quite a lot of collages with photos of animals on painted/drawn backgrounds which makes for an attractive product.
The language used in the book is simple and ideal for children, plus there is also a glossary for specific terms that children may not have come across, e.g. echolocation, permafrost.
The content is educational focusing quite a bit on the wildlife and containing things such as the Antarctic food cycle, linking the sun's energy through to krill through to the apex predator, the orca, with all the bits in between.
All-in-all a nice book that should interest the inquisitive child.

Great info, but needed better organization.
Individual pages sometimes seemed like they just slapped info onto the page without thinking about the order in which the human eye takes in information.
Author overused adverbs. Occasionally overgeneralized. Also made contradictory statements a few times.
Too many fonts and fairly often put black print on a dark background making it hard to read.

I have to state this book is what a wonderful illustrated book to share with children and adults too! I cannot put this book down I have so many wildlife I want to research even more now!
This book teaches the reader the differences between the north and south pole. The illustration is wonderful and it is easy to read at any age. Thank you for sending it to me!
I entered this giveaway to share the book with my nephews if I won. The enjoyed the new facts they learned, and so did I! The pictures are well done and the book well written.
An informative book that contrasts the Arctic (North Pole) with the Antarctic (South Pole). Illustrations integrate photographs and soft hand-drawn vistas into soft inviting images.
This book features beautiful images and illustrations paired with clear, simple text that contrasts the Arctic and the Antarctic, describes the native animals, plants, and insects and their individual adaptations to the harsh environment and daily living. It briefly touches on global issues affecting the health of the poles and the planet, as well as early exploration, features a short glossary and a useful index. Recommended for ages 7-9, but it is a wonderfully informative read for all ages!
