My once perfectly orchestrated kingdom is crumbling and it’s all because of her. Rory may have disappeared, but like a flame, light will always shine brighter in darkness.
She grew up believing she only ever had herself, and maybe at one time that was true, but not anymore. She’s one of us now. I may be on the outs with the hellhounds but that doesn’t mean she’s allowed the same generosity.
The pieces of our story are as flawed as they are fragmented but not unfixable. There is power in being broken.
I will find her, even if that means I have to do it alone. Rory may have given up on us but that doesn’t mean we’ve given up on her.
We stick together. That’s our rule. Our law.
BROKEN HEIR is the highly anticipated follow-up to Shattered Princess and should be read after book one.
OH MY GOSH… AGAIN!! Honestly I shouldn’t even be surprised Amber Vant knocked it out of the park again with this one yet here we are surprised!
I am in love with this book and this series.
I made a TikTok when I was LITERALLY 4 % in about how I didn’t want it to be over I was so in love!!
‘Broken Heir’ is the sequel to ‘Shattered Princess’ and it picks up almost exactly from where we left off at the end with that absolute CLIFF HANGER OF AN ENDING OH MY GOD I LOVED IT WITH ALL MY HEART!!
The pacing in this book was very similar to the first book ‘Shattered Princess’. The first half was quite slow and mainly calm while everything from the end of the first book was being resolved BUT the second half of it as always was absolute mayhem! The last few chapters I don’t even know what was happening it was outrageously crazy and I loved it!! The twists and turns as with the first book just kept coming and each one better than the last!! The dramatics of it all make it that much more enjoyable to read and I found kept me constantly hooked and wanting more!!
There was also so many more mystery aspects to this book than I originally thought, even going into the first book I didn’t realise how mystery based it was and I love it because in my opinion it makes the focus of the book so much more than romance and makes the book that much better!!
These characters … no these boys oh my god! Finn will forever have my heart, Cole is just ugh and Eli is just so sweet and caring, although… I AM extremely curious and need MISS VANT to delve into his character a little more in the third book ‘Resilient Queen’ because Cole said Eli had a darkness within him AND I AM TELLING YOU I NEED TO KNOW!
Cole in this book was just the cutest! He is so desperately trying to be different for Rory yet he is so exactly the same as in ‘Shattered Princess’ it is honestly the best thing to read! His character development was incredible! And when I tell you this boy literally spends the WHOLE ENTIRE book PINING for Rory it’s not even an exaggeration, this man is in LOVE IN LOVE, INFATUATED EVEN!! I NEED A COLE IN MY LIFE ASAP I SIMPLY CANNOT CONTINUE WITHOUT ONE PLEASE I am basically just madly in love with him to be honest!
Finn. I don’t even have to say anything… I LOVE THAT BOY WITH MY WHOLE HEART!! The way he is just an emotional wreck MOST OF THE BOOK because he’s scared of losing Rory I can’t!!!! I NEED to see more of his and Hailey’s relationship I NEED it!!!! I was getting so frustrated at him I do love him though
Rory… Rory in this book was an incredible main character! As with the last book she stood her ground (for the most part ;)) and was such a strong character. Although I do have to say I love her so much more in this book! In the first she’s clearly meant to be a slightly annoying unlikable character, she has an attitude, she has trust issues, she’s rude and mean and all the rest and it’s not really explained! I’m this book I found that she is WAY less irritating than the first because we learn a bit more about her, she is more open with everyone and she actually now knows the boys and has relationships with them so she is so much more herself not only around them but in general!!
Again dual pov in this book is my favourite thing ever! I love that we get to see everything Cole does for and thinks about Rory without her even knowing!!! Also I love how Finn basically has his own pov because he’s so open with his feelings!!
The amount of highlights and annotations that I made in this book is actually laughable! Every page bar a few sentences was highlighted! The quotes in this book are like no other honestly!!
I have 104 notes … and 708 sections highlighted… sections as in could be one word, could be two pages!!
If you liked the first book Shattered Princess’ you need to read this NOW if you haven’t read the first book to be honest I don’t know why you’re STILL reading this review of the second for but READ IT!!!
It has mystery, it has drama, it has romance, it is everything!!
Side note: Possibly my favourite quote that I have ever read;
"I push, you pull. You run; I chase. You hurt; I bleed. That's what we do, who we are.”
“I push, you pull. You run; I chase. You hurt; I bleed. That’s what we do, who we are.”
After being left on a cliffhanger in Shattered Princess (book #1), we couldn't wait to get our hands on this book, and Amber did not disappoint! The angst, twists and turns, second chances and friendships in this book had us captivated from start to finish. *This is not a standalone book and should be read after book 1*
Him: Cole - intimidating, arrogant, alpha, bad boy. Cole has one way of doing things - his way. However, after realising that winning Rory back would only ever work if it's on her terms, he's forced to take a step back and try a different approach. Cole is Cole though, and he only has so much patience before laying it all out on the table and claiming what is his.
Her: Rory - kind, independent, fiery, guarded. After a troubling past, Rory is unsure about a lot of things in her life - except how she feels about Cole. Although she loves and hates him in equal measures, Rory can't deny the feelings he stirs up in her whenever he's close. Letting him back in isn't easy for her, but neither is pushing back from the inevitable - Rory and Cole belong to each other.
Together: The push and pull, and chemistry between Rory and Cole is perfection! So consumed by each other, everything and everyone fades into the distance when these two are together.
Once again, we’re left on an epic cliffhanger, so we can't wait to see what happens in Book #3: Resilient Queen!
We were provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
i haven’t realised how much i missed rory and cole until i read this book and i loved it. omg i love the characters so much. especially finn. idk how but he became my favourite character. he was just so caring and almost nothing like how he was in the first book. i loved his relationship development with rory and definitely looking forward to his other development with hailey;) wink wink…
aside from forgetting the plot a little bit from the first book, i loved every second of it. i loved how cole was smitten with rory and wanted her to forgive him so bad. i definitely did not expect him to be such softy for her but it was adorable. rory was still a badass… duh! she did not forgive so easily which i love her for it. but the moment she did!! that scene!!! ah i love love love.
after that cliffhanger i NEED to read the next book!! can’t wait <3
Holy shit!!! This book is WTF amazing! Literally that ending?? Omg I…WTF!
Vant does it again! She’s blown me away yet again with how incredible her story telling is! When I started the first book Shattered Princess I was instantly captivated but it was nothing compared to what we’re up against in Broken Heir.
What I loved about this book is that we see Rory’s fight with herself over everyone else. She’s a strong female character and of course doesn’t make it easy for Iceman to get her back!
There are so many twists and turns In this book I didn’t see coming but I’m so glad there’s another coming soon because I need to know how this is going to end!!
FIRST! tysm to Amber Vant for sending me an eARC copy of this book! <3
my rating: 4.5/5⭐️ spice level: 2.5 - 3/5 ❤️🔥
[This is book #2 of the Hardin Hellhounds series]
OKAY let’s get to it, im going to be completely honest when i say i signed up for this arc without reading shattered princess first, but when I got it (besides of being extremely exited) i immediately read Shattered Princess AND WOAH! (5/5⭐️) the cliffhanger!!!
Moving on to this book, I LOVED IT! Seeing how badass was our female main character, Rory, was in the first book i fell in love with her straight away. That didn’t go away in this book and I enjoyed every second of it 😩
Our love interest, and male main character, Cole, is OH GOD, hot, amazing, just perfection (in my opinion). His character development in this book is *chef kiss* HE WAITED FOR THIS GIRL OKAY?? (his girl 😉)
Overall i REALLY enjoyed this books, and yes ofc this ended in another cliffhanger but ILL BE HERE WAITING OK?
so if you like: - badass female mc - slowburn - TENSION - grumpy x grumpy - sunshine this book is for you!
I’ve waited six LONG months for the cliffhanger to be answered! Was it worth it? HECK YES!! Rory has a dark soul that slowly sees the light. Her past and childhood have a way of showing back up in her life. If it wasn’t for the Hellhounds she would still be in that dark place. I love how in Broken Heir we see her fighting herself more than others. She’s her worst enemy but she finally knocks down those walls. Cole NEVER gives up on his girl or bond of brothers, even if he’s on the outs. I loved seeing this side of Iceman! Finn is a GREAT friend and bother. His vocabulary and manners may need some work but he will fight for his loved ones!!! Eli, I just want to hug him and tell him everything’s going to be ok. He’s truly a great friend and would never break ties with those he cares about. I definitely need more Finn and Eli! Also this ends on another cliffhanger?! It’s worth the wait!!!
FIVE CROWNS FOR BROKEN HEIR! Amber Vant has done it again!! Omg! I didn't think it was possible to fall more in love with alpha boy Cole Kellet but Vant made the impossible, possible!
Somehow the plot in this book twisted and lead me down a road I wasn't expecting but I devoured every last drop of it! 💕
Rory continues to stay one of my top female heroines with her refusal to settle. The girl demands more and nothing less. If you love a female lead who knows how to stand up for herself Rory is never one to disappoint. She knows how to put everyone in their place and is unafraid to back down.
Rory and Cole what else can I say they are ALL the things! In this book we see Cole transition doing whatever he can to win back “his girl”. The concept was so unexpected from his Bully persona from the first book that it threw me for a loop but in the best way possible! Iceman just wants his Princess back. 🥹😫😭 *swoons all over again internally*
The cliffhanger at the end of this story absolutely blew my mind and I didn't think I could recover after book one's cliffhanger, but nope! Vant pulls another fast one on me and now I'll be in another book slump until December.
Broken Heir not only met my expectations but surpassed them!! I absolutely adore Amber Vant's style of writing and look forward to more books in the future!
-ANGRY LOVE CONFESSION -GRUMPY X GRUMP-SUNSHINE -RUNAWAY GIRL -ELITE CHILDREN -CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OF MMC ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 🌶🌶🌶/5
Overall the book was good . As good as twisted and complicated it sounds it was worth the time. Some of the points that I liked in the book was, how the crescent moon was described, the use of metaphor and irony phases used in a single sentance. I can picture FINN AS GAVIN CASALEGNO and RORY AS EMMA MACKERY. The anti-birthday party and the trip was amazing. Always knew the trip will have a kick start again in their life. The physical tension was chef's kiss. 🤌🏻 Also I can trust ELI with my life in any instance. COLE being better man for RORY. And finallyyy another freaking plot twist.....kill me ......just how hooked I am ... Can't wait for RESILENT PRINCESS.
Broken Heir by Amber Vant Book II in The Hardin Hellhounds Series . ARC Review . I fell in love with Amber’s writing when I read Shattered Princess and I was beyond excited to receive an ARC of the next installment Broken Heir. . We pick up right where we left off in Shattered Princess. Rory is gone and The Hellhounds are desperately trying to find her and bring her home. After all the secrets & lies they see her for who she is and realize how much they need her. . Of course Rory won’t make it easy on them though. That’s not how our girl rolls. She’s too used to being on her own and doesn’t feel as though she really needs anyone other than herself. Cole is playing the long game in winning Rory back and we see his character development really take shape in this book. The Family dynamic between them all really shines and just when you think all is well… A bomb is dropped that can change the entire course of all their lives. . Oh my god I LOVED this book! Amber really knows how to hook you with just enough information that you “think” you know what’s happening but NOPE! Plot Twist! She sends you down a totally different path! I KNEW something was up but couldn’t put my finger on it until the very end when it blew up! . That being said, obviously this book ends on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait for the next book Resilient Queen! . This was a gripping story that kept me guessing all the way to the end! I would absolutely recommend! . 5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5🌶🌶🌶
So where do I begin 🤷🤔🙄🤦?? Rory takes off trying to deceive the boys looking for her, secrets start to unravel, people start to spiral. Rory is on a quest to find out what everyone is hiding from her, where the book really came from, who the man is that gave her the Crescent moon necklace, and how it all relates to her. The cliffy though...... Definitely wasn't expecting THAT!!! Definitely can't wait for Resilient Queen 😘
Omg this is a book I've been waiting on coming out and the weight did not disappoint. After Rory is dealt a heart break and a stab in the back she runs, but she can't run far. The hellhounds are on her heels and one has more at steak than the others. This book is not one that the girl just forgives and forgets. It will take you down a road that you don't see coming.
I just couldn’t anymore. The book got soooo corny and cringy that it made it hard to read. The nickname “Iceman” and “Princess” is 🤮, I ignored it in the first book but I just couldn’t in this one. The first book was enjoyable because I loved how the h reconnected with her family and her relationship with her step brother, but this book just included the h and H fighting then getting back together about 20 times. When the h ran away because of something the H did just solidified that the book was imitating Paper Princess, I love that book, and I wasn’t about to ruin it for myself by reading this one. I can’t even get myself to finish the book even though I am 91% in.
damn I was really hoping for a little love triangle but OH WELL. once again this is objectively not good BUT SUBJECTIVELY ate down. THE DRAMA THE TENSION, god it really is so corny but like once again FLOATING ROCK LET ME HAVE FUN. I probably won’t continue with this series HOWEVER it was so fun while it lasted
Loved the ups and downs.. Still a little frustrated over the phone lol... the twist at the end has me ready to read the next book. I love the story telling and unfolding of the stories from the first two books. I would recommend this series to everyone!!!
SYNOPSIS (of the Trilogy): FC was abandoned by her father save for one visit in 17 years until her mother dies. She is then made to go and stay with her father, stepmother (who hates her) and step brother (who despises her). Step brother and his two best friends are the Hellhounds and elite of the school that she is made to attend. All are wealthy and privileged. There's the obligatory BFF the FC meets on day 1 and the required bitchy girlfriend of the MC. The story arc covers the FC falling for the MC, the discovery of why she was ignored by her father and the general mystery surrounding her upbringing. The MC falls for the FC around the end of Book 1 and there is ultimately a HEA.
Where to start? This trilogy gets worse and worse with each book. Whilst the basic story arc, whilst not even remotely unique, is still decent enough the standard of writing is dreadful. To the extent that I actually wondered if this author's native language was English. That or she really needs to understand how to use a Thesaurus. For the love of God get an editor! I genuinely have huge respect for anyone who can sit down and write a novel and this author has the basics but, unfortunately, a complete inability to deliver. This series is a mess.
I am just glad I got these on KU as I would not have read the full trilogy - although I was majorly skimming by the end. The drafting or writing errors were so bad that there were sections of the story that you could not actually understand what was happening. There are so many sentences where the author uses a descriptive word or phrase that doesn’t make sense with the result that the writing flow is interrupted and the reader is left confused as to what is being said or described Examples: "relenting I take refuge on her"; "I swear if Madison makes me stay here any longer because of her perpetuate attitude..."; "I've accustomed him with hatred and wrath"; "for some aghast reason she like it here"; "I cover my hand with my mouth" (not a mistype as this phrase is used a few times in the books); ""I know baby" I say lowly, disdained"; "her movements are mulled, slow"; "confined to my arctic of isolation"; "I'd been too brass"; "equal in our unescape from each other"; "the facts vet to nothing but another mystery of dead ends" - and they go on
The plot is full of holes where something happens and then there is no follow up or explanation afterwards. When The FC discovers the conservatory for the first time she says she’s never seen it before but she was at the house 5years prior. How could she have missed a room that is apparently as large as the conservatory? You also never get an explanation as to who planted it and why it was apparently abandoned. When the FC has a fight with Lorna there is no mention of it subsequently or of Lorna and any consequences of the fight. The book with the red cover and the whole story arc around that again seems pointless and the scene with the rare book man inserted into the story to add drama but with no real addition to the story. Finally the whole "I was assaulted" section was actually an insult to women or children who have been assaulted. The author uses a row with Lorna (who somehow knows about the assault but you never find out how) to have the fact that the FC was assaulted at around 13years old, to become known to the Hellhounds and Abram. Yet once this is brought to light there is no discussion after or any sign of trauma on the part of the FC or any further mention for that matter. I find it distasteful when authors use this type of serious topic just for drama and fail to take it seriously. Its was also another case where something happens and then is never mentioned again.
The back story for the FC is incredibly thin. Whilst there are some flashbacks in Book 2 you don't actually get any real information and what you do get you are left to figure out for yourself. You don't ever get a full explanation. There's no reference to whether the FC was attending school, how clever she is or any friends she may have had. You are also left to assume she covers the rent for the trailer in which she apparently lives and any electricity etc. Not sure how if she is attending school and working as a part time waitress. The story around the FC's visit at 13years is never explained i.e. why was she visiting and why exactly did her father just send her away again and ignore her? The fire is never completely explained, the reader is just left to cobble together what happened from various references through the books.
There are many parts of the book that go beyond suspension of disbelief and are just therefore annoying as a result. The FC’s apparent lack of interest in exactly why her father not only cut her out of his life but failed to ensure she and her mother were supported is unbelievable and unrealistic. Accepting him after he’d cut her out of his life for almost 18years just because he started being slightly nice to her was also unbelievable. The result is that you never really understand why Abram acted as he did. Yes there is a brief flashback from his point of view with Lorna but are we supposed to believe that someone as rich and powerful as Abram could not find a better way? This FC is supposed to be strong and yet you don't really see any evidence of that. The backstory for Abram is again, superficial and lacking. I'm not sure how anyone can feel any good feelings about a man who behaved as he did. I think the author is trying to justifying his actions but it doesn't work. Not least because there's no real attempt by Abram after the FC returns to really get to know her.
What can I say about the climax of the story where the author clearly stages a type of "Agatha Christie denouement". She brings all the characters together to explain why everything has happened and yet fails to do so in any way that makes sense and also fails to explain why Lorna is in the house in the first place or knows anything about what the answer was. ***SPOILER*** The Will makes absolutely no sense in terms of what it says and the ownership of Hardin and how it passes also makes no sense. If the company is owned by Silas and Abram then they are the only ones who can dispose of their holdings. Just because you marry someone you don't then get full ownership of their assets or the right to transfer them let alone the ability to transfer ownership of the assets of someone to whom you are not married or related. I'm not sure what planet the author is but none of her "unveiling" makes sense and or would be possible. It’s not a case of suspending belief it is just completely ridiculous. Further, the idea that someone would commit suicide to trigger a transfer of ownership that doesn’t happen until at least 10years in the future - beyond ridiculous; the idea that that is the only way to stop Cole from being required to take over a billion dollar business (boo hoo for him) - also beyond ridiculous especially as it turns out he wants to work for the company. Here’s an idea - just say no or how about appointing someone else to run the day to day? The whole hidden box and key also makes no sense. The first box found does not fit the key but they manage to get it open and it "explains" how the ownership of Hardin has been transferred (or not). However later Cole comes up with another box which does fit the key. You never find out what was in the second box but what does that mean for the first box? Were two boxes left? In which case where was the key for the first box? But then there's a reference to the first box not being the real box. If it wasn’t real then there was no transfer? Colour me confused as this was the most convoluted, impossible and laughable ending I have ever read.
Not sure I can finish. There are so many issues with this series. And I keep running to others comments and am shocked ppl are overlooking soooo many things. Don’t get me started on the assault aspect being overlooked and just jumping into bed with a “bully”. Yea. Maybe 1 in a million can do that but so many deal with years of trying to find themselves back to being touched let alone fucked by some asshole. Not believable. At all. Or the absent parent with no child support confusion only to turn around and try to be a “dad”. Or that this was in a badass female book list (she’s not). She’s weak and falls for his horny charms. Peppered in with mini love bombs. Ok narcissist. Heard of boundaries? And I just read the chapter when they fucked on her bday and he BOUNCED. Sure. No condom. She now has to deal with that stress. ALONE. Not that imma fan of plan b bc it makes you hormonally psycho… but just dropping her like a fly with a head kiss. Yea ok. Idk if I can keep reading. Zero redeeming qualities on both parts.
At least I liked Finn’s commentary in the end. He gives of psycho deranged vibes and even though I think he’s wrong on so many levels he provided lots of comedic relief.
That is all. Fml.

I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a day!
I love that we get to see more of Cole’s character development throughout this book and we see him fighting for Rory. He never gives up on her. Rory is still a badass and takes her time forgiving Cole, but once she did it was amazing and so worth the wait!
The plot twist was completely unexpected! This book keeps you on your toes the entire time. It does end on a cliffhanger, but it is so worth it! I can’t wait for Resilient Queen!
I'm so invested in this that I don't think I'll get back any sooner until I finish the whole series.
This series is totally intoxicating, though I agree that it definitely isn't the best written, but then the plot is as good as this, I really don't care. I'm invested and that's what matters to me.
Rory Hale/Casper: Girl, I aspire to be you. To live up to my respect.
And if I haven't mentioned this before, then I'm mentioning it now that Finn's character has developed a lot since the first book and everything. His change towards Rory, the love and everything he did for Rory as his sister is truly indescribable.
And how could I forget to mention the 'Anti-Birthday Party of Rory' ?!
It was just splendid. I like drama, but I loved that birthday party, and I wish I had my birthdays celebrated as such with people and friends who loved me, who understood me.
At one point, I was literally sobbing, and the next, I was jumping. Lol
I picked up book two hoping things would get better. Hoping the FMC would finally grow a spine, the dynamics would deepen, and the plot would stretch beyond the basics… but nope.
Once again, the FMC barely defends herself, and the moments where she does try feel inconsistent or too small to matter. And the whole “they suddenly like her now” storyline still feels unearned because book one never gave us a proper shift.
Instead of expanding the world or giving us real emotional consequences, book two felt basic, like the same patterns repeated with slightly new settings. I wanted growth. I wanted development. I wanted ANYTHING that showed the story evolving.
This was a good quick read. It picks up nicely from where the first book left off. I enjoyed how the relationships developed in this book; between all of the characters. It is a highschool romance so you know the full maturity isn’t going to be there, but that doesn’t take away from the book. I also really appreciated that this went to a slow-burn romance between Rory and Cole. I am glad it didn’t just jump back into things and it took awhile for trust to be gained again. I am interested to see where this third book takes us!
Unfortunately I dnf at 70% Nothing personal with the book, I kinda just experienced a reading slump. I guess if the book was more interesting it wouldn’t have happened though. Oh well
This book was mostly just filler and we didn’t really get a whole lot of Rory and Cole so I’m hoping in this last book we get a lot of them and the twist at the end kinda made me sad like she’s not actually his “lil sis”
