I first read Fatal Affair (Fatal #1) back in November 2015, and somehow never picked the series back up — which makes no sense, especially now that I’ve devoured books 9 and 10 on a weekend trip and already asked the author if I could get my hands on book 11 coming out next month!
The Fatal series reminds me a bit of Nora Roberts’ In Death series, one of my all-time favorites. Both feature strong, kick-ass women. Sam Holland, a lieutenant at the Washington, D.C., Metro Police, is tough, no-nonsense, and doesn’t back down. She commands respect from colleagues and management alike, all while carrying a heavy sense of responsibility. I adore confident, feisty heroines like her.
In book 1, Sam met Nick Cappuano — then a chief of staff and friend to a murdered senator. Their brief, passionate one-night stand years ago sparks again when they reunite. By Fatal Frenzy (Fatal #9), Nick is being sworn in as Vice President of the United States — OMG!
Jumping from book 1 to 9, I expected to be lost, but I wasn’t at all. I was captivated by Sam immediately — her toughness, dedication, and genuine struggles made her a standout heroine. She doesn’t back down, even when the stakes are sky-high. Despite being the VP’s wife, her responsibilities to colleagues, friends, family, and civilians remain her top priority.
The plot is masterfully crafted. The suspense kept me on edge, and the twists — especially early on — had me reeling. The ensuing trial was heart-wrenching, and the tension stayed until the very end.
If you love suspense with a sexy hero, a steamy romance, and a powerhouse couple, this series is for you. Nick and Sam’s chemistry is palpable, and their love, trust, and passion turn up the heat!
The secondary characters are also fantastic. The multiple POVs allowed me to connect deeply with everyone — colleagues, friends, and family — and made the cast feel like a real, lovable family.
The audiobook narrator was superb — nuanced, engaging, and brought the characters to life perfectly.
I’m HOOKED. I loved this book — enthralling, emotional, and addictive — and I can’t wait to continue the series with Fatal Identity (#10).
