The Last Kids on Earth #3

De laatste helden op aarde en de nachtmerriekoning

Rate this book
Life after the zombie apocalypse is pretty good for 13-year-old Jack Sullivan: he lives in a mind-clobberingly cool tree fort with his best friends, speeds through town playing Real-Life Mario Kart, has a crew of monster buddies, battles zombies on the regular, and generally treats life like it's a videogame!
But then Jack's friends make a startling discovery: they may not be the last kids on earth, after all. This is great news for everyone... except Jack. Once they've found other humans, his friends won't stick around for long! Jack's only hope for keeping things the way they are is to prove that everything here is perfect, life is crazy fun, and nothing else could be any better.
One problem: it's hard convincing his friends that everything is great when they're being hunted by a monstrous Nightmare King and an ancient evil who won't rest until Earth has been devoured. Crud! Maybe life after the monster apocalypse is more complicated than Jack thought...

I have been reading this series to my 8 year old son. He loves books but it is hard to get him to read on his own. He doesn't have the confidence in his own abilities. These books have grabbed his attention enough that he has started reading them on his own. Maybe the monster apocalypse hits a little close to home considering we are currently on the Covid-19 lock down! Regardless, he is finish the book, on his own, as I write this. Anything that he chooses over a video game is a winner in my books!

Jack and the gang are back in book 3 of the Last Kids on Earth Series. I enjoy these books....they are action-packed, innocent fun. Kids and Good Monsters vs Zombies and Evil Monsters.

This time, the kids discover a radio and hear a signal broadcast by other humans! They aren't the only people left! Jack is conflicted about the radio and afraid of being left alone, as he is the only one with no family to find. But a strange new monster -- the Nightmare King -- comes on the scene and Jack has more to deal with than his fears and emotions.

I listened to the audio version of this story. Robbie Daymond narrates and does a superb job! He voices the characters and monsters so well! It makes for a very enjoyable listening experience. This is a middle grade children's book series, so while it has a lot of action, monsters and mayhem, it isn't particularly scary. The audio book is an easy listening length .... just under 3.5 hours long. I listened on my commutes to and from work.

I like this series because it is humorous, has great action and shows the incredible creativity, courage, and resilience of children. :) When work bogs me down or I've read several "heavy'' adult fiction novels in a row, I need a break -- and I turn to children's books. This series is one of my favorites. Always something exciting and fun!

Jack, Jane, Dirk, and Quint are back in the third installment of the New York Times Bestselling Last Kids on Earth series. Jack and his friends have a pretty great life in Wakefield. They have an awesome treehouse, play amazing games, and hang out with a bunch of friendly monsters. Life has calmed down dramatically since defeating the evil Rezzoch in the last book.

The Last Kids of Earth and the Nightmare King starts when Jack and his friends overhear a radio transmission looking for survivors. The last kids are ecstatic as they realize they may not be the last people on earth after all. There is now hope that everyone could be reunited with their families! All are happy except for Jack, an orphan with no family to return to.

In typical Jack fashion, he decides that if he shows his friends how fun it is in Wakefield, they won’t want to find any other humans. And to be honest, the life of the last kids is pure entertainment. They have freedom to do what they want, when they want, and they have the coolest treehouse… that I’m completely envious of.

As Jack starts to plan a great adventure for his friends, he is hunted by a large, winged creature, dubbed the Nightmare King. The creature shows Jack nightmares of what the future could hold for the city of Wakefield. Jack and his friends have to fight the Nightmare King, while Jack still tries to prove how fun it is to be a last kid. But is this monster somehow related to Rezzoch or is it another powerful creature trying to destroy the world?

The Last Kids on Earth and the Nightmare King is a hilarious, action-packed adventure. Max Brallier has written a series that is really funny, with great pop culture references throughout, but is also full of life-threatening fights with zombies and other monsters. The illustrations by Douglas Holgate are spot-on, with especially dynamic drawings throughout the nightmare sequences.

These books are just straight fun. Fun characters, fun plot, and fun illustrations. This series is great for a wide variety of readers, and I recommend it to all who love adventures.

Another TLKOE done and dusted. This series just maintains the pace, the fun, and the many pop-culture references that my son has no idea what they are. But still, the MO is still the same, Jack and Co have adventures, then face down a big bad guy at the end. However, in this one, The Nightmare King is not the biggest threat to our hero. This time, it's a radio. Yup, a simple radio. This time Jack must face his greatest fear - being alone again. As his friends grow excited at the thought of potentially seeing their families again, Jack thinks of ways to sabotage their dreams in his bid to keep his little gang together. You can feel Jack's angst as he fears being left on his own, while not wishing to spoil his gang's hopes either. Great stuff!

Looks like the zombie apocalypse has become more exciting than our heroes have thought. Their latest villain turns out to be more darker with sinister plans while the ending has a surprise that concludes that maybe there are other survivors out there. A- (91%/Excellent)

The Last Kids on Earth is a Netflix animation. The books are fun to read as it has the things kids might think and worry about.

In this one, Jack is worried that his friends would leave him and he will be all alone.

That is because all of his friends have family members who might still be alive. A family reunion is a possibility.

This is also triggered by the discovery of a radio. Someone is broadcasting on this radio. The kids just found out they were not the last kids on Earth. There might be other survivors.

So what Jack is going to do? He wants to make life fun so that his friends would choose to stay with him.

There is another evil monster that is giving Jack nightmares.

The battle is not just between humans and monsters. There is an internal struggle for Jack to recognise his feelings and still choose to do the right thing.

Good story. 4.5 stars.

Recommended by a student, I had to at least give this book a try. I just couldn't finish it. I'm not a fan of zombie apocalypses and monsters. There are humorous moments in the book, to be sure, but the humor simply can't overshadow the rest of the problems with the book for me. Sorry, Khai. I tried. I just couldn't get into this book.

When I first saw this book in the school fair video I immediately thought that I wanted to read it. It piqued my interest because it showed a fun apocalypse which is supposed to be sad. The Last Kids on Earth and the Nightmare King by Max Brallier had multiple good predecessors. I suggest reading the previous books. They give good insight to how this book works. They show their lives before the apocalypse and what happened to them when the apocalypse started. In this book the main characters Jack and his friends, try their best to make everything out of the monster apocalypse. They make it fun by having competitions with monsters and making electronic gadgets. This book helps show how people’s mindsets change after something big happens. Throughout this book it has been showing the strength of doing things in groups when you're doing something big, instead of apart by yourself. The reasons why this book should be read is it shows childlike characteristics and it shows great themes of how darkness can be overcome. Jack and his friends show great adaptability and strength because everything changed their lives, their homes, and their friends. This entire book showed great strength and adapting that is why I like this book.

Another fun adventure with Jack and the gang, complete with new monsters, intriguing problems, and epic adventures. Fast-paced story full of battles, mystery, and jokes. Great for reluctant readers.

As with the previous books, this one is broken up with artwork incorporated into the scenes. Cool integration and art style. Really works with the story.

The stakes didn't seem as high in this book as compared to the first two. It kind of feels like filler before the bigger adventure in the next book, but it was still fun to read and a good setup for the impending situation.

While I enjoy the books, I don't like Jack's character as a whole. He really grates on my nerves although at least he's not as creepy as in the first book. It helps having more interesting characters in June, Quint, and Dirk to help balance out Jack.

On the whole, I am enjoying reading this series and look forward to the next book.

The book "The Last Kids On Earth And The Nightmare King" by Max Brallier is about four friends in a monster apocalypse. In the book, the four friends find a radio with voices coming from it. They decide to take the radio as they think it could be a chance to find other humans. However, Jack does not want anything to do with the radio, because he thinks it will split up him and his friends and the life they live. To stop this, Jack wants to do something super fun to convince his friends to stay. Meanwhile, Jack encounters a monster who gives him vision/ dream things. I recomend this book to people who like adventure and a good, fun book. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was a great read. And you should read it too. This book was funny and also a little scary. When the monsters in the story attack it makes you want to read more. Every time i was done with reading time in class i took an extra Five to ten minuets to read the ending. I cant wait to cuddle up with the new book that might be coming out. This book was recomended to me by my cousin olivia, and she was right it is a great book for kids our age (12-14). I would reccomend this book to kids that like to have books with a good amout of pages and words. I gave this book the amout of stars because i loved it and would be willing to read it again.

The Last Kids On Earth and the Nightmare King by Max Brallier is about after, Jack and his friend's defeated Rezzoch, the ancient destroyer of worlds, and his servant Thrull. This about the Nightmare King, it looks like a winged wrench but much bigger and more scary looking. And the Nightmare King is getting in the way of Jack and his friends journey to find other living people. While Jack and his friends were playing real life super Mario cart, they hear voices in the fire station, human sounding voices. They go inside and find a radio asking for any survivors and telling them where they are. But Jack is trying to tell his friends everything is fun here so they don't leave.

The series gets better with this installment of The Last KIds on Earth. Jack shows weakness. His friends show strength. The monsters at Joe's Pizza work alongside the humans, and a new incarnation of Rezzoch challenges our heroes. It's all fun and games with zombies, monsters, and heroes competing to survive in this recently-made apocalyptic world. Fifth graders will enjoy the action and silly dialogue along with the great illustrations presented in this book. It's not the best literature in the world, but it is an easy, adventurous narrative sure to enchant those who have read the first two books.

Wait maybe even the greatest kick-butt action-packed fantasy adventuring interesting goodest book I've ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is 10/10 the BEST fantasy book EVER. It has action, cool monsters, and even a simple radio that can SAVE THE WORLD. But the only thing that could be better is if I had the other books in the series. GG

I actually liked this book better than Book #2...

I absolutely loved the park where Jack, June, Quint and Dirk all go to the FunLand Amusement Park.. It reminded me of the group from Zombieland when they end up at that amusement park. But, in the book, it’s 13-year olds.

I have to say though that Jack still annoyed me in the book, or up until he finally snapped and told his friends what was on his mind. It’s like he wants to help but then something comes up that puts him on edge and then everything goes downhill from there.

Definitely a good read though.
