**Grab all six books of the thrilling BELT series, in this great value 1200+ page sci-fi box set! Out in the asteroid belt, you’re never far from a rock and a hard place. Commander Scott McNabb and the crew of the science vessel, Hermes, are three years into a five-year-long survey of the asteroid belt when they discover a derelict spaceship in orbit around a binary asteroid. The ship contains an experimental quantum device, lost while en route to a research colony on Europa. However, once word of the crew’s discovery gets out, they soon realize that ownership of this technology could fundamentally change the balance of power within the colonized worlds, and they now find themselves at the very nexus of a system-wide conflict. Their fight for survival plays out across the solar system, from the mining outposts of the asteroid belt to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and from the great Martian city of Jezero to an irradiated wasteland on Earth. This is an epic tale of humanity’s battle for power and control in a time when artificial intelligence has almost out-paced our own ability to control it. This box set contains all six BELT SERIES - Entanglement - Entropy - Evolution - Enigma - Exodus - Emergence What Amazon readers are ★★★★★ ‘Wow. Couldn’t put these books down. All so well written as one story led into the next.’ ★★★★★ ‘Awesome Read. I enjoyed this series very much! Couldn't put it down. Exciting twists and turns.’ ★★★★★ ‘Super story from a great writer! Excellent story, great characters and plot lines. Just a great read!!!’ ★★★★★ ‘I absolutely loved this set, right from the start it was all action and brilliant characters. It’s an amazing story from start to the superb and thoughtful conclusion.’ ★★★★★ ‘It moves very quickly, holds your interest. I couldn't put it down. Great story and characters.’ ★★★★★ ‘Great series of books. I would recommend them to anyone that's a fan of scifi.’ ★★★★★ ‘If you enjoy science fiction that isn't about marauding aliens, you'll enjoy this series as much as I did.’ ★★★★★ ‘The whole series has a good flow. No weird space monsters just plausible AI. A cautionary tale.’ About The Belt The story is set a few centuries into the future where humanity has colonized most of the inner solar system. The asteroid belt (The Belt) is now a hive of mining activity and ships ply the trade routes to Earth and Mars. The technology depicted is, for the most part, what I consider to be technically plausible, although I do stretch it a little with quantum intelligence (QI). That said, you won’t need a calculator or a slide-rule to enjoy the story.
This is an excellent series full of action, thought and clever solutions. I’m dyslexic and I made it through all 6 books in short order. This is hard scifi, but no so hard you can’t follow it. It takes an interesting look at the quantum world and possibilities. The book in generally well written and definitely deserves the 5 stars I gave it.
That said, the author has an annoying and distracting habit Of using the wrong word. He flips the meaning of further and farther which I can live with, but he uses Imply and infer backwards. There are only a few and I’m nitpicking I know, but as a dyslexic I get distracted by grammar errors and it takes me a bit to get back into the story. One more, he uses less where he should use fewer. What annoys me is that he is such a good writer, his editor should catch these things…they glare out of the text. Your editor is supposed to make you look good! Sorry Gerald, I truly am a fan.
Very nice full edition of the belt series. I like having all the books in a single volume, so I tend to read these when they're available. This was a pretty good series, and since it is (tangentially) related to the mars series which I'm also currently reading, it made for some really good tie ins to that series as well, though I've not gotten to the parts of that serieis where developments could be seen to lead to this series, it's still an interesting read overall, and the combination of the two series puts together a really nice overall story arc. If you're a scifi fan, then I strongly suggest adding both the mars and the belt series to your to read shelf, and have at them. You can read the belt before the mars one if you want, it won't detract from the story, although it might be more enjoyable if you read them in the proper order, as concepts and characters will be more familiar to you in that case. Most definitely worth the read.
So boring, so predictable. And in need of a good editor.
"Highly entertaining", "Hard Sci-Fi" - phoey!
1. Oh how boring can writing be! Book one was fine, but here he rehashes, recalls and explains, adnaseum. I estimate that 50%+ of the book does nothing to advance the story. Additionally Scott McNabb (why oh why use his full name so much) is a weak version of the introspective, negative, yet heroic and daring protagonist we see used over and over in Scifi - not forgetting the fiesty first officer, introspective doctor, quirky engineer and old timer.....!! Even the QIs, while my favourite thing, are stereotypes - Solomon is lofty, Aria is quirky and kind, and the other fellah is initially cold and distant.
2. I love Hard Scifi. But a lot of it really isn't "Hard", doesn't deal with real/future science.. Rather throws in a bit of something like, say AI, and continues on its merry way as a standard 'adventure' or 'detective' story. This is the case here. Does it develope differently? Who knows - I'll not be finding out.
3. Expanding on the previous points, sorta, while it's probable that the QIs are more prominent as the story progresses, they are underused here - think Banks' "Minds", with their distinct personalities, opinions and overall sense of. the profound and the petty.
Overall I feel cheated! The blurb "...AIs....." drew me in for a six book read, buy now......
The full name of this in the version I read on Kindle was "The Belt -- The Complete Series: Books 1-6 of the Highly Entertaining Hard Sci-Fi Space Adventure." The series was indeed “hard” in the science- and physics-aware sense, but a relatively easy read.
And while it take self-confidence to proclaim your books “highly entertaining” and “adventure” in the title, in this case it’s mostly justified. Humans, AIs, quantum communications and quantum intelligence, space battles, evil corporations, drama -- this has it all.
Decent attention to the characters’ development, way above-average attention to science and physics, and a super-ambitious, wide-ranging and mostly well-done plot made this a worthwhile and entertaining read.
If but one human can think this far ahead, and as many who have read it, and understand its implications, as even one other, then we have already taken the first step on the journey! Thank you, Gerald Kilby, for creating this visionary story, & sharing it with all of us. I think I have enjoyed reading these books more than almost any other, and I read hundreds every year. Well done, a few typos & missing words that want editing, but easy to follow, a well-designed world with believable characters in it. Cyrus deserves a spin-of of his own ;-) .
I really liked these books, and they really kept my attention. I found myself reading nonstop a lot of time. The characters are all interesting and well developed throughout the books. The ending was great and leaves me wondering what else is in store for Luca. The books had very few typos and grammatical errors. Hoping for some follow-up stories but won't hold my breath. People who like science fiction will like these stories and since they aren't X rated would be ok for middle school on up. Give them a try if you like engrossing stories.
Mars colony was a great series and this was a perfect follow up, i loved how some name and places and events from Mars colony were intrinsically part of the story for the belt.
I really enjoy near future hard Sci Fi, is very believable and so it doesn't stray into the realm of fantasy, at least not to me.
This series has your quantum intelligences, your EPR thought experiment written expertly into sci-fi, your neural interfaces and your genetic engineering.. it's brilliant.
The start was well planned with a conceptual backstory and a decent plot encompassing a longer term look at the heights of Human endeavor contrasting with Humanities basest qualities. The story follows a twisting semi-spiral that we compasses semi believable tech with some harmonious theories. Bottom line, entertainment, and sufficient blood and violence to appease all but the most bloodthirsty of our species. Yes. I enjoyed it.😎
The concepts described in this novel are mind blowing and very imaginative. The action is endless and bloody with amazing cures and robots with fantastic abilities. The characters are unique and very strong minded. The QI are also beyond belief but very supportive of the heroine, happily. Great ending.
This series is a fresh look at human potential for conflict as well as advancement. Very creatively told. Unfortunately, the use of vulgarity exceeds the borders of gratuitous. Thus, the four star rating. 55 years of reading Sci-fi puts the story-line above the most but the telling of it could be better.
This was an Amazon recommendation based on my purchase history. It was an interesting story, the characters and character development were great. The world-building was great with a heavy focus on technology and genetic enhancements. I also liked the contrast between the various planets.
The near future could very well go this way there are some people out there that are capable of doing exactly what has happened in this series I could name fifty ore more without even having to think about it so this senerio is entirely possible. Again excellent work.
Humanity slogs through its next step in a great read.
A real page turner that also opens up some real thinking, I enjoyed the entire series. One thing I especially enjoyed was the understandable humanity of all the characters! Even the villains are recognisable. The concepts presented and suggested have really got me motivated towards further research! Don't miss this trip
I enjoyed reading this series. Well thought out and mostly adhering to scientific reality. Book 6 provided a good ending to the series. Several grammatical errors that could be removed to prevent jarring the reader in places.
Worth reading if you have an interest in the near future stellar Scifi.
What a thrilling ride from beginning to end. The problems kept escalating as the series went, and the jams, near misses, narrow shaves, and hopefully planned manoeuvres kept coming. I enjoyed this series more than most SciFi books I’ve read, and more than many thrillers. If there’s a follow-on series, I’m keen to read that too. Absolutely 5 star read.
A great read and fantastic contribution of the series.
Couldn't put this down, read the majority of the books over a few lazy weekends. Now I am finished I cant wait to read Luca's further adventures. Now I need to go and tidy the office that the book has prevented me from doing over the last few wekends.
It's entertaining enough, a bit superficial with too much deus ex machina, two dimensional villains, and unlikely emotional shifts. (Characters with long-standing grievances drop them in the course of a page, for example.) As space opera that's all fine, but what kept yanking me out of the story were entirely too many editing errors.
I grew up reading from the same Sci-Fi library as Mr. Kilby hence I have a lifelong infatuation with “Hard Science Fiction”, also frequently termed Space Operas. The Belt series is probably the best new addition to this genre that I have read in 20 years.
A deep and well thought out story. The events in the story are believable and not cluttered with aliens who would have distractedly spoiled the story line. I can’t wait for more on this story and hope there’s more in the pipeline.
Nice near solar system future balanced with action and thought provoking ideas. I hope the author expands his universe to include interstellar stories of Luca and friends.
I thought this was a well written and though out book. The story and science in it is entirely believable. There is a lot to like here. It is a long book at over 1100 pages, so it takes a while to get through it.
This series kept my interest from beginning to end and each book added to the previous like a stepping stone. This series is visionary in its construction and allows endless expansion for humankind and beyond. Excellent read.
A very good collection of characters that from the start gets one involved in the evolving narrative from an apparent local problem to a system wide battle. Enjoyable read.
This is the kind of science fiction that makes me think. A tale of adapting and developing human thought and industry from a single solar system to becoming a star faring people ✨️.
I have just finished the six books and have really enjoyed the story. The characters are well drawn, entirely relatable and likeable. The tech is not too far fetched and the plot concept very believable. I recommend the series.
Excellent read! Had me hooked right off the bat and kept my interest throughout. Also overjoyed that someone(s) proofread! Looking forward to the next series. You are the first author I’ve added to my follow list in a long time.
Captivating story. A very exciting read. The character development was wonderfully grounded. The story found its way without contrivance. I recommend it as very good science fiction.
Over The Rainbow🌈💫 Military🐺💪🔪🔫 Science Fiction🚀 in Our Solar System💫🌏 Seems like The books kept getting rehashed in this epic six book series about life in Space🚀💫 in our own solar🌞 system. But at the same time it was kind of fun and imaginative at times. I got this ebook from Amazon📚 with KU.
Trulia fraud space opera although contained within just our solar system. Some good technologies and extrapolation from correct trends plus a particularly good handling of how do we find a wise enough knowledge base to move forward. Overall good read.
I’ve also read the Colony series and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I think a Netflix series based on the Belt series would be awesome. They’re easy to read and I love the ideas he comes up with. Highly recommend these books.
