Benedict Hawke, son of Dominic and Luisa from Book One, comes of age and feels the need to branch out from his father's goldsmithing enterprise. He has acquired the skills to operate a successful business on his own, but he lives in challenging times. The Bubonic Plague rages in the parishes outside London, Queen Elizabeth's popularity is waning as she ages and uncertainty regarding her succession is on everyone's mind.
Embroiled in this turmoil and confused about his own reluctance to follow in his father's footsteps as a sexual dominant, he meets Madeline Traverne.
Born in France but raised in India by an abusive father involved in diamond mining, Madeline is the widow of a wealthy Indian maharajah. She and an elderly Dutch diamond merchant form a partnership to sell diamonds to London merchants at a time when the nobility is clamoring to acquire the dazzling gems. The Hawkes intend to take advantage of this trend.
Benedict is intrigued by Madeline, though he should be shocked by her blatant sexual interest in him. She recognizes from her late husband's teachings that he is the man who can provide what is missing in her life. She has success and wealth but lacks passion and love.
Anna Markland is a Canadian author with a keen interest in genealogy. She writes historical romance about family honor, ancestry and roots. Her novels are intimate love stories filled with passion and adventure. Following a fruitful career in teaching, Anna transformed her love of writing and history into engaging works of fiction. One of the things she enjoys most about writing historical romance is the in-depth research required to provide the reader with an authentic experience.
Madeline and Benedict certainly captivated my attention with all the sultry talks and escapes that they participated in. I loved how the book was easy to read in certain parts of the book, but I tripped on some of the wordings in the dialogue and or narrative plot. The interesting love twist between Madeline and Benedict was very entertaining and fun to read. The book is a quick read for me, but I enjoyed it very much.
Diamond in the Ruff Ruff Wooing Book 3 Anna Markland ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Benedict Hawke, son of Dominic and Luisa from Book One, has now come of age and has decided to branch out from his family's goldsmithing enterprise. He has acquired all of the skills he needs to operate on his own, but he lives in very challenging times. The Bubonic Plague rages outside London while Queen Elizabeth’s popularity is wanning as she ages, and uncertainty regarding her succession is on a lot of people's minds. Now he has met a woman, he's realized that he is different from his father and Uncle as he does not seem to want to be the dominant one in the bedroom, like they are.
Born in France but raised in India by her abusive Father Madeline Traverne, is now the widow of a wealthy Indian maharajah (who her father sold her to). She and an elderly Dutch diamond merchant form a partnership to sell diamonds to other London merchants at a time when the rich are desperately clamoring to acquire dazzling gems. The Hawkes intend to take advantage of this trend for as long as they can. Bennidict finds himself utterly charmed by the beautiful Madeline, though most would be shocked at her blatant sexual intrest in him.
Madeleine realizes right away from her late husbands teachings that Benedict is the man who can provide what is missing in her life. She has success and wealth but lacks passion and love. Will Benedict give in, and give his heart to the beautiful Madeline or will they go their separate ways, and never know love that could have been?
Anna Markland is definitely one of my go to authors. I know I'm going to enjoy any book that this incredibly talented author decides to write. Benedict was so different from his father and Uncle in the bedroom. He is not the dominant partner that they both are. Madeline decides she's going to teach him Kama and takes her time doing it. These two characters may be different ages, but they were perfect for each other in every way. I really enjoyed this book and the way the author streched the book out throughout the years. All in all, if you love tudor historicals this is the book for you. Ms. Markland once again you have dazzled me like the gems in this book would have dazzled the people in Tudor times.
This is the third book in this series, and each is a stand-alone, I laughed so hard at the end of this one when Louisa handed Madeline the peacock feathers. Anna Markland seems to get better with her series as she writes them and this one is no exception. She does a great job of intertwining actual history with her fiction which I love as her heart is in writing true Historical fiction, which is always well written, and she creates wonderful characters. The storyline is this one is great. The Hawk family has a certain reputation and with the addition of Madeline in this story, it really added a whole new equation to the story that added a lot of extra intrigue. This story is about Madeline and Benedict Hawk. Madeline was born in France but raised in India and had been married to an Indian ruler. When her husband passes away, she teams up with an older Diamond merchant and travels to England. There at a trader's guild market, she meets Benedict and instantly knows he is the man of her future. Benedict is working on getting his guild marks and has to create a unique piece of jewelry. He has his design and just needs the right diamond. Madeline sees what he is doing and gives him the perfect diamond for his project. Once he realizes that he wants to marry Madeline they start searching for a place to expand the Hawk business, so that he and his twin who has already married, can have their own privacy away from the full to the seams households of his parents and his Uncle Jullian's. This is a delightful read that keeps you turning the pages and the ending will make you Laugh Out Loud, if you have started with the first in the series. Otherwise, Louisa will enlighten you along with Madeline
ANOTHER GREAT READ BY ANNA MARKLAND!!! Diamond In the Ruff by Anna Markland is book 3 in the Ruff Wooing series and I am loving the history put into these books. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. I really love the character Madeline and her background in India. It made this book so much more exotic with the mystery of India. I also like that this series is based around Queen Elizabeth Tudor. I found myself so engrossed in this book that a mack truck could have hit me and I would never have known. Anna is one of the most talented authors of today and her books never disappoint. This story has a family of jewelers, a window who suffered at the lost of her husband, an abusive father who worked in the diamond mines in India, being sold off, a ruff road to London, becoming partners, opening a new shop, fear, taking things slow, misunderstandings, a son who’s is brooch is approved of by the Queen, beautiful and rare gems, being kidnaped, a talented sister, a not so approving mother and being soul mate. This book has it all and I am highly recommending you read it. Soooo Good!!!
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Madeline Traverne was raised in India, and sold by her father to a Maharaja to be his fifth wife. Luckily her husband was kind and taught her a lot. When he died she escaped to England. Our heroine is a strong and confident woman unafraid to go after what she wants.
Benedict Hawke is the son of the best goldsmith in Tudor England. His family have been heavily involved in the complicated politics of Elizabeth's court. Our hero has grown up in a loving and prosperous family, but London is not always a safe place.
This historical romance gives us a lot of insight into the lives of Guild members and what they had to do to qualify as the elite craftsman they were. This book also has a sexy side that is important to the story.
As is normal for this author we get lots of really interesting historical facts woven into an excellent tale that keeps us involved in our characters lives from the first to the last page. Although this is part of a series you can easily read it alone.
Diamond in the Ruff, by Anna Markland is the third book in a wonderful series, in this one we meet Benedict Hawke, who is the son of Domines and Louisa, from the first book in series. They are in the Goldsmithing business in the era of Queen Elizabeth, the other reviews have given so much information on this plot,I won't retell the same thing. I will tell you I thought the sexual tension between Benedict Hawke and Madeline Thaverine was super exciting to read about, and how she was sold in marriage to a older Indian maharajah by her father. set's the story so well. This book has history, suspence, love and passion in it.I was given the book for my honest opinion and can say really enjoyed Anna Markland books. Tells a wonderful story that comes together for the reader,I would recommend to get this book and the complete series, but can be read as a stand alone book.
This is the third book of the Ruff Wooing series. Although this is the first one I read of the series, I feel Ann Markland gave you enough information that you weren’t left in the dark and were able to enjoy it as a stand-alone. It was so good and interesting , filled with mysteries and excitement , religious beliefs, family history, and plenty of love and passion. I can’t wait to go back and read book 1 & 2. Madeline Traverne and Benedict Hawke met by fate. She came from a troubled past and he was from.a very close knit family and also well respected in goldsmiths society. He was captured by her exotic ways and she was destined to find love. This story of The Hawke Family and Madeline and Benedict’s Journey will captivate you. You won’t put this one down.
Another great addition to this wonderful series, full of history and an amazing couple who try to find love!
Madeline had been forced by her father to marry a wealthy man in India. Now a widow she is determined to work with a diamond merchant and sell the stones in London.
Benedict Hawk is the successful son of goldsmithing parents and wants to go out on his own. When he meets Madeline, he is totally intrigued and cannot believe her desire for him.
A journey worth taking to find how these two can come together and be happy!
This book is a brilliant third book in the Ruff Wooing series by Anna Markland. Each book has gotten a little more heated, and this one is no exception. After being traded to an Indian Maharaja , Madeline Traverse can teach the Kama Sutra with her eyes closed! Definitely pay attention to this one readers, your spouse will be glad that you did.The story of Benedict Hawke , his beloved Maddie as well as his twin sister Lizzie and best friend Bevan Morcant, is truly a excitement filled, intriguing, historical work of art. As always there is an HEA, this time it is doubled. Well done Ms. Markland!
The author weaves lots of really interesting historical facts woven into the story of Madeline and Benedict. Madeline is a widow from India and with her partner are looking to go into business with Benedict's goldsmithing family. Madeline and Benedict have instant attraction but have to deal with his family, their age difference, as well as their religious differences. There is humor, intrigue and passion.
Very interesting with a temperamental backdrop for this couple and their relationship journey. Their very different family history allows eye opening for them both as they find a middle ground and deal with their doubt amongst animosity. Their mutual attraction isn't an issue and I like how that sensuality played out. I received a free copy and voluntarily chose to leave this review.
A really wonderful story by an amazing author! Interesting and complex characters in a descriptive story make this a real page turner. Colorful historical series that is a must read!
An intricately wrought romance, taking the reader on an exotic journey of delights. I love the suspense that these lovers create by delaying the culmination of their desires. I couldn’t put this book down. The interaction between all of these family members is entertaining, giving the reader an insight as to what it must have been like living so closely together. I’m hoping that there will be another book in this series as I can’t get enough of the Hawkes.
