When Eliza’s son arrives in Shellseeker Beach, he’s struggling. Dane deeply disapproves of his mother’s relationship with a new man, causing friction in Eliza’s happy life. In addition, he must navigate a whole new life and find a way to channel his emotions in to music. Support comes from the most unexpected corner, surprising everyone…including Dane.
Olivia and Deeley’s newfound joy might be coming to an end when they face a startling threat to their makeshift family. The solution to their problem might not be what they imagined, but it could mean a joyous sunset at the end of the day…if everyone once again unites to overcome adversity.
Let’s just say this is the next to last book in this series, and I already know I’m going to miss the characters of Sanibel. This book dives deeper into some of the relationships we already know of and surprises with a new one I didn’t see coming! I’ve said this before about this series, but the characters are so real and the situations so familiar to things we deal with in our own lives…it makes you want to move to Sanibel and stay at the inn so you can meet this eclectic group of friends and family!
This latest installment of Shellseeker Beach sure packs a punch! There are emotional ups and downs throughout the book, laughter, tears, upheaval, trust, awakenings, and uncertainty. Throughout it all, the love and support of family is strong and makes all the difference. The characters are endearing, the love is compelling, and the setting is idyllic. I’m loving this series! I’m not anxious for it to end, but I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!
As usual, Hope Holloway delivers a wonderful story with vivid, relatable characters that draw you in from the beginning. However, I was really disappointed with the choice to make the antagonists Christians. When did it become ok to use religion as a negative personality trait, let alone Christianity? I hated that part of the story. There were better, more unique ways that could have been handled rather than the old throwback of targeting people with certain beliefs.
I am still loving this series but I had to take one star off because I am so tired of all the women in these books whimpering and mewing. Can’t we please find other words? “Whimpering “ isn’t even used correctly. At least, in my opinion, that word has a negative connotation, but that’s not how it’s used in these books.
Hope Holloway has done it again! Threat to a happy family unit? Unexpected pregnancy? Surprise sunset wedding? YES! If sunrise signals new starts and tides signal change, then sunset is the perfect time for a romantic moment, and Buck intends to give Camille a wedding on Shellseeker Beach at sunset! The catch: it must be a surprise. Claire isn't sure springing a wedding on her *maman*, fresh from heart surgery, is a good idea. Buck insists, though--she accepted his proposal before going into surgery, so it's only a question of time! Olivia and Claire begin planning, aided by Teddy, Eliza, and Katie. With book 5's rising tide, another shell lands on the beach: Dane, Eliza's son and Olivia's brother, who quit his prestigious but soul-sucking Silicon Valley job and moved to Sanibel to compose music living in his sister's house. But with Deeley and Bash back and the cottages booked solid in high season, Teddy and Eliza put him in the spare room at Teddy's. Harper used to stay in that room and it's covered in Frozen decor. But Dane just sees no way for his beloved grand piano to make it into the house on stilts. If he can't fit his piano, he won't stay in Sanibel. Olivia is hurt, and Eliza tells him he's being a brat, but the piano is his way of grieving his father, and the one-year anniversary of his death is approaching, so... Meanwhile, Olivia's theory that every time things are going well with her and Deeley, something messes it up, is reinforced by a text from a woman claiming to be Mrs. Brennan, a distant blood relative interested in "meeting" Bash. That can only mean they want to see if his current life is better than what they can give him, and Miles finds out that they are perfect! He's a pastor, she's a homeschooling church volunteer, their kids are well behaved, and they own their home without any debt. How can Deeley and Olivia, an unwed couple living with a rampaging toddler related to neither of them, compete if they request custody? Dane is frustrated by his limited housing options, but George and Roz's daughter Asia--desperate to escape Roz's "smothering" (telling her everything she does for, with, or to baby Zane is wrong)--says they can get an apartment or townhouse and split the rent. It's crazy, but she's persuasive and gorgeous, so he agrees. The sites are disappointing--moldy, dim, and piano-unfriendly--but the more Asia shows determination to abide by his piano criteria, the more Dane admires her internal spirit and decides he doesn't need the piano after all. He's heard of a bar that has open mike nights, and maybe he can play a piano there. When they meet the bar owner, Dane recognizes him as a famous jazz keyboardist! His anonymity blown, the owner says Dane can play his baby grand all day, when there are no customers and no staff. In return, Dane can pour drinks, bus tables, and play for the crowd as the "piano man" for minimum wage plus tips. It's a good gig, and Dane takes it. Elsewhere in baby news, Roz (the only person to know the true identity of Asia's "sperm bank" son's father) tells Asia to level with Dane and gauge his worthiness by his response. And when Olivia gets sick and exhausted, her mom guesses that, like most of Holloway's single female characters, she's pregnant. Olivia is afraid to tell "I never want kids--ever" Deeley that he's going to be a father, and Mrs. Brennan sees her buying pregnancy tests, further proof this random couple can't provide Bash with a stable home. In the deserted bar, Dane composes music and Asia writes lyrics, singing them with skill and confidence. They're a born partnership! The owner catches them kissing and says that won't win open mike night, but he also mentions a Miami record label executive who will be there next time and is interested in meeting the busboy composer and his soulful muse/lyricist! The ladies have the perfect cover story to get Camille to the beach in a bride-like dress: a photo shoot for Last Resort magazine featuring Sanibel Sisters fashion. Camille is thrilled to show off her store's wares, and she doesn't question the bridesmaids "getting ready for the photo shoot" with her. The sunset ceremony goes off beautifully, but at the end the Brennans show up with a court order allowing them, as blood relatives, to take Bash for a few weeks. Deeley puts on his SEAL hat and matches their order with his own, naming him Bash's guardian until Bash turns 18. It's an impasse, until Eliza asks Miles (the wedding officiant) to call the judge who awarded Shellseeker to Camille in book 1. That judge overrules the Brennans' court order. Then Deeley, whose less than romantic proposal and less than thrilled reaction to Olivia's pregnancy left her in tears, goes down on one knee and proposes, with Bash mirroring him. They have a sunset wedding of their own! Just one cliffhanger: Zane's evil father may have found Asia. Can Dane protect them? Highly recommended!
This sixth book in the Shellseeker Beach series put me through an emotional wringer. By this point in the series, I have become thoroughly invested in these characters. They feel more like family and friends than simply characters in a book. That's one of Holloway's gifts, her ability to create a group of complex, layered, multi-generation characters and then place them into realistic situations to which we can all relate. The emotional impact is deep, visceral, and lasting.
The ongoing relationships in Shellseeker Beach continue to evolve at varying paces in this book, one bringing fear and anxiety from outside sources (and my deep, deep anger). Others elicit deep joy, steps forward, unexpected surprises, poignant farewells, and the excitement of new beginnings. A new couple is formed in this book that I did not see coming but am oh, so happy to embrace. I'm usually quite adept at figuring out the direction in which a story will go so it's especially enjoyable when an author serves up an unexpected surprise.
There's only one more book left in this series. I have no idea where Holloway will take these characters in the upcoming final chapter of this series but wherever it is, I am confident it will be another humorous, heart-tugging, hopeful, and thoroughly satisfying journey.
This is a series that I strongly encourage reading in order.
Book 7, Sanibel Moonlight is scheduled to be released November 18, 2022.
I appreciate the beachside vibe, but the author is definitely not a musician. Also didn’t understand all the jabs at the brother from the get go. Who wouldn’t be upset knowing that their living situation had changed and you could’ve told them before arriving? Also, telling him he didn’t need his piano and him settling for a Walmart knockoff in the house. Absolutely not. As a pianist of over 30 years, let me tell you - I would not give up my piano and the lack of understanding on the Mom and sister’s part is ludicrous. And saying that maybe it’s not the piano but the memories associated with it?? The memories could contribute but I and all musicians I know are very particular about our instruments. I knew which piano was the right one for me and so did everyone in the store, there is a connection that happens when you find the right instrument. And I would never have been okay with a cheap keyboard from Walmart. Rant over. But going back to how they treat the brother when he’s trying to deal with grief and the lack of understanding on the Mother and Sister’s part is rough. My Dad passed away 7 years ago, so I understand the grief. I know everyone’s different, but the Mom moving on months afterwards and expecting her son to just go with it is wild to me, and not like real life.

In some ways this book was more emotional than the one proceeding this one. Sometimes, we think that only young children have more problems when one of their parents pass and life goes on. When, in reality, it doesn’t matter what age you are, a loss is a difficult thing to try to get your life back on track. It’s especially hard when you have preconceived notions on grieving like how long and the steps to go through. That’s exactly how Dane feels. He misses his father terribly and thinks that his mother and sister have moved on faster than he thinks is proper. He feels lost until he meets Asia and Zee. He never expected to find someone who fits in a place that he wasn’t sure about. Asia has her reasons for not putting her trust in people, especially men. Those secrets are surely going to come out, as secrets always do. I’m going to miss everyone at Shellseeker Beach (just as I miss everyone in Coconut Key) when the last book comes out. But, I can’t wait to find out everyone’s future!
Love, love, love this book. This series just continues to get better. There is more trouble for Deely and Olivia. Eliza's son Dane comes to the island and is starting to fit in. There is so much emotion and pain but also love in this book. I was almost in tears at one point. So sweet! Cannot wait for the final book in this series but also hate to see it end. I love the way they are always there for each other.
Hope continues to pull at the heart strings with this group of characters that have been brought together on the magical Shellseeker Beach. Through many life trials, this family grows in number and in strength. Letting go of the past to love and live in the present is a common thread. The trials are not over but with the support and love that this family provides, life will continue to be fulfilling for all involved.
Sanibel Sunsets is the sixth book in Hope Holloway’s Shellseeker Beach series. The books are filled with misunderstandings, learning to trust, family, love, and everything in between. This book was no different. There were tears, frustrations, dealing with grief, learning to move forward, and the importance of family. I can’t say enough good things about this series. I highly recommend this book! If you haven’t read the first five books in the series, I recommend them, as well.
Love the continuing story of the lovely Sanibel Island and the families on the island. There's a few twist and turns that makes the story even better. Hope Holloway is a gifted author who writes amazing stories that draw you in and hold your attention and heart. I fell in love with the characters in her stories and anxiously await the next chapter. I highly recommend all her books.
I absolutely LOVE Hope Holloway books. Our family vacationed in Sanibel for 11 years in a row so it was fun reading about all the streets and landmarks referenced in her books. You are immediately drawn into the story line and I often read way past my "tiring" point because I am so anxious to see what comes next. I am beginning the last book of the Sanibel Sunset Series, eager to see whats next on the list!
Every book in this series is full of new relationships and situations all surrounded by the beautiful seaside that is Shellseeker Beach on Sanibel Island! Eliza’s son Dane has entered the picture and he’s full of resentment at his mother for starting to date months after his father’s death. Can he adjust or will his budding relationship with Asia make him see things differently? Read it and find out?
I have absolutely loved every book in this series. There are not enough words to describe how great her books are. When you start one and cannot stop reading it and you feel so connected to it, that says a lot. I will
patiently wait for the next one to release but also be sad it will be the last.
This book #6 in the series was a tear jerker! Number 7 comes out soon and I'm going to dive right back in to finish the saga of this family. I'm sure all will end well, its great to read and get away from the real world, where that doesn't always happen. I love this series and I hope she writes more like it.
Loved this installment of Shell Seeker Beach series. Each one of these books drags you through so much family drama, emotional land mines everywhere. You probably won’t make it the a single book without laughing and/or crying. Fabulous characters you will want to adopt to include in your own family. Beautiful writing and fabulous audiobook as well. Very well done storytelling! ❤️
Though I love the characters & want to continue reading, this series (some books more than others) are incredibly sappy& cheesy! This one is also super melodramatic with even the most unlikely scenarios ending up perfect & all tied up in a rosy bow in the end. Though they’re fun & feel good, & I have to finish the series to know all the final outcomes!
Well once again Hope Holloway has transported me to this beautiful little Florida island oasis and given me the opportunity to spend time with this precious group of friends and family. What a perfect setting for these great characters, building stronger relationships, supporting one another and also some new budding relationships are revealed. Priceless moments of healing, growing and loving one another. This is such an enjoyable, relaxing series and I am looking forward to the final book but I hate to see it end, I will miss these characters!
Have read all the books so far and loved them all. So sad to know that the next,t book will be the last. While there is drama and sadness the books are very uplifting too. Start with the first, these are not standalone stories.
I love this series. Hope has a way of writing that makes you feel like you are one of the characters in the story. The characters are endearing and you willl fall in love with each of them. So excited for the next book, but sad to say goodbye.
What a great story! The ending has left me wanting more. What or who is in Asia's past that has her so upset. Can't wait for the next book and all the endings ENJOY! Happy Reading!! MARY C
Good story, excellent character development, the writing style of telling the story from many different individuals has never been my favorite, however this author makes it work.
I only read Hope Holloway these days. You have hooked me, Hope! Love your characters, love their stories, and am amazed at how expert You are in planning the story.
This story basically is more about the children of the women that we have come to love in this series of books. We meet Dane and his love and attraction to Asia build some tension and ends with a bang. Can’t wait to move onto the next book.
This series is so good. Each story draws you into the "found family" life centered on Sanabel Island. Great characters who tell their own story full of disappointment, sorrow, hope, & love. Difficult to put down.
