Cara en haar draak Zilverdief ontdekken een verboden grot. Ze voelen aan alles: daar wordt iets verborgen gehouden dat geheim moet blijven. Cara en Zilverdief zijn vastbesloten om te ontdekken wat dat is.

Wat is het toch fijn om weer terug te gaan naar het Gilde. Een geweldige plek met heerlijk eten, een plek waar je jezelf kunt zijn én een plek waar mensen en draken samenkomen. Al zijn het niet zómaar mensen. Het zijn échte drakenzieners. En wat zou ik graag zélf een drakenziener willen zijn.
Voor nu moet ik het doen met de verhalen van Alastair Chisholm, maar wie weet - als ik diep in een vlam kijk - zie ik ooit mijn eigen draak...

In 'De verboden grot' volgen we Cara en haar draak Zilverdief. Cara heeft nooit echt een thuis gehad. Niemand om op terug te vallen. Maar ze heeft altijd een beschermende stem in haar hoofd. Een stem die haar waarschuwt voor gevaar en die net wat meer ziet dan zij. Zo voelt ze zich nooit echt alleen.
Op een dag komt ze Malik tegen en hij laat haar zien dat de stem, die zij elke dag hoort, aan een échte draak toebehoort.

'Jij bent een volbloed drakenziener. Zilverdief is jouw draak, en jij bent haar mens. Draken bestaan, Cara. Net als drakenmagie. Het is allemaal waar.'

In de startblokken - klaar - af! Vanaf de eerste woorden spatten de spanning en actie van de bladzijden af. Mijn adrenaline werd meteen aangeroepen en mijn ogen gingen in de hoogste versnelling. Snel van links naar rechts om mezelf in een nieuw avontuur te storten. Een nieuw avontuur dat zich afspeelt in Rivven.

Na de turbulente start, bouwde Chisholm wat rust in. Het was prettig om kort nog wat achtergrondinformatie te krijgen over drakenzieners en draken. Het zorgde ervoor dat dit boek ook prima losstaand te lezen is. Maar het is natuurlijk véél leuker om álle kinderen van het Gilde beter te leren kennen.

Het verhaal is mysterieus en zit vól geheimen. Geheimen die niet verborgen blijven voor de nieuwsgierige Cara.
Het is een verhaal over het sluiten van vriendschappen, over vertrouwen en hulp uit onverwachte hoek. Maar het is bovenal een verhaal over het vinden van een thuis. ****

This is the Dutch translation of Dragon Storm #2: Cara and Silverthief.
It is a light read with great illustrations and a book on children's level with a small world building and an understanding story. Most of all there's a lesson into it that you can't always rely on yourself, but that you've got friends to help you, as Cara and Silferthief will encounter on their andventure.

This is the second book in the Dragon Storm series.

We meet Cara and her story in this book, we previously met her in the first book but there wasn’t much about her, she was kind of a mystery. Cara had great character development. And she faces the problem of being able to trust no one but the voice in her head, to being thrust into a world of dragons, where she has to face the choice of being alone or making friends.

I loved the illustrations that can be found throughout the book which makes it a great read for both adults and younger readers. The illustrations makes the book engaging as it helps imagine the setting – I especially liked the illustrations of Silverthief.

My favourite part was when we first see Silverthief, she’s quite unique.

This is a book about friendship, with the moral that it is okay to make friends and let them help you.

A young girl--a thief--who lives on the streets, is breaking into the king's personal quarters of the castle. She heard of a magnificent jewel worth more than the kingdom itself, and thanks to the the voice (always in her head), she receives warnings and guidance to the things she seeks.

Cara doesn't know who the voice is, or why it's there, but they converse in her thoughts and trust each other. It isn't until Cara meets a tall young man at a fortuitous time, that she finds out who and what the voice is. Malik (the young man), searches for people like Cara, and invites her to join a guild.

The voice in Cara's head is a long-fabled dragon, and the guild is for dragonseers! But dragons are myths, or all died in a war. How can this be?

Cara is a bright, friendly girl, but Silverthief tried to poison Cara's mind against all other humans and dragons out of jealousy; making Cara isolated, lonely, and secretive; putting her and others in mortal danger.

I like the concept and world-building, and I feel the series has potential, but for this book, I needed more evidence to show Silverthief accepted the others. She's too self-centered to change quickly.

The story wrap-up was very quick; leaving me feeling unsettled and still distrusting Cara's dragon to such a degree, that I still feel uncertain about the book overall.

The book illustrations were lovely, giving it a castle and dragon theme.

Dragon Storm : Cara and Silverthief is centered around Cara, a young girl who hasn't had many people in her life. All her life, she's relied on the voice in her head to guide her. When she discovers that that little voice is in fact a dragon and that she is a dragonseer, she has to decide whether to go on with her life as she has or to finally be part of something.

This was the second book in the Dragon Storm series following Dragon Storm : Tomas and Ironskin. Where the first book was heavily reliant on world building, this book was more focused on character development and plot.

I loved this book as much as I loved the first. I think Cara was an extremely interesting character to read about. She was more withdrawn and private than Tomas and that stems from everything she's been through as a child. I loved how her character developed and how she seemed to trust more people as the story went on.

I extremely enjoyed both books in this series. I cannot wait to read the other Dragon Storm books that Alastair Chisholm comes out with. I absolutely loved the illustrations in both books. The way they connected with the story and what was happening made them ever better. The drawings of the dragons specifically were incredible.

This series is such a great series to get into for all those readers that love children's fantasies. It deals with friendship, loyalty, responsibility and adventure.

Het tweede deel van de serie en ik heb enorm genoten. Ditmaal krijgen we Cara en haar draak te zien en volgen we haar en hoe zij is gekomen bij het team + daarna ook een stuk over Thomas. Erg leuk, ik gok dat de andere boeken ook ieder een personage volgen die we in het eerste boek hebben ontmoet? Cara was echt een tof personage, in het vorige boek leek ze erg in de achtergrond maar hier leeft ze helemaal op en zien we een andere kant. Zo leuk! Plus, we zien dat veel van de keren dat ze zich verstopte was omdat Zilverdief gewoon opmerkingen maakte en Cara onzeker maakte. En er is veel spanning, mysterie, nieuwe draken, mysterie, en veel meer.

Ik was verrast dat de Engelse editie allemaal toffe (en vaak grote) illustraties had (ik moest een zin checken). Wij krijgen slechts wat kleine illustraties hier en daar (en sorry, maar het speelt zich af in een soort Middeleeuwen. Dus een Trojaanse helm? Hedendaagse kleding? Nee.).
Ook even dit, een litteken ontsiert iemand niet. Het is niet lelijk. Het maakt niet iets slechts. Vooral in kinderboeken wil ik dit soort taal niet zien.

Der zweite Band erzählte von einer Einzelgängerin, die plötzlich nicht mehr allein war und dies erst erkennen musste. Wie mir das Buch gefallen hat, erfährst du unten im Text.

Meine Meinung zum Cover und der Illustrationen:
Das zweite Cover finde ich genauso schön, wie das das des ersten Bandes. Es zeigt natürlich Cara mit Silberklaue. Mir gefallen vor allem die vielen Details, die mit Fingerspitzengefühl von Eric Deschamp gezeichnet wurden. Cara wirkt auf dem Bild taff und ihr Blick verrät, wie wichtig ihr Silberklaue ist. Auf dem weitläufigen Hintergrund wirken die Beiden vertraut miteinander. Im Inneren des Buches befinden sich viele Illustrationen, die zu den jeweiligen Szenen passen. Auch hier gefielen mir die Darstellungen, obwohl sie in schwarz-weiß gehalten wurden.

Meine Meinung zum Inhalt:
Caras Geschichte begann an einem Ort, mit dem ich nicht gerechnet hatte. Ich fand mich mitten im Geschehen wieder, wodurch sogleich erste Spannungspunkte gesammelt wurden. Geschickt holte mich Autor Alastair Chisholm mit seinem direkten Schreibstil zurück in seine Welt. Augenblicklich war ich Teil der Handlung und begann das erste Mal mit zu fiebern.

Das Mädchen musste sich schon in frühester Kindheit allein durchschlagen. Die Konsequenzen daraus spürte man sofort. Als sie auf Malik traf sträubte sich alles in ihr ihm zu folgen. Genauso die Stimme in ihrem Kopf, welche stehts da war. Dennoch wollte Cara mehr erfahren. Von Anfang an konnte ich das Misstrauen sehen, dass Cara und Silberklaue allen entgegenbrachten. Das Verhalten war vollkommen logisch, nachdem was sie durchgemacht hatten. Es wunderte mich ein wenig, dass die Erwachsenen der Gilde das nicht sahen.

Schnell schritt das Geschehen voran. Zarte Bande des Vertrauens rissen immer wieder. Bei der Drachin war mir schnell klar, was sie bewegte. Caras inneres Gefühlchaos gegenüber den Anderen war trotz der schnellen Erzählung wahrnehmbar. Alsbald kam es zu Ereignissen, die nicht nur Caras Neugier weckten, sondern auch ihr Unbehagen stärkten. Kurz darauf nahm alles seinen Lauf und es kam zu abenteuerlichen und gefährlichen Szenen. Spannung gab es an dieser Stelle sehr viel. Die Protagonisten, die damit zu tun hatten, sorgten für eine Wendung und Cara erkannte etwas ganz Wichtiges. Schlussendlich konnte ich das beendete Buch erfreut zur Seite legen, weil der Ausgang zu einem Happy End führte. Es war stimmig, passend und schön – vor allem der letzte Satz. Ein Geheimnis wurde zusätzlich aufgedeckt.

Mein Fazit:
Der zweite Band der Reihe erzählte von Cara, wie sie entdeckt wurde und zur Gilde kam. Ganz so einfach konnte sie ihr altes Leben jedoch nicht hinter sich lassen. Silberklaue und sie konnten den Mitgliedern nicht vertrauen. Daraus entwickelte sich eine spannende Geschichte mit aufregenden Wendungen. So manche Szene begeisterte mich mit ihren umgesetzten Ideen des Autors. Irgendwann mussten Mädchen und Drachin erkennen, dass ihr Leben so nicht weitergehen konnte. Mit den Illustrationen wurde die Geschichte lebendiger, half der Fantasie manchmal ein wenig auf die Sprünge. Die Zeichnungen waren sehr schön und detailreich. Nach dem Beenden legte ich das Buch lächelnd zur Seite und kann es meiner Nichte mit der Gewissheit weitergeben, dass sie Spaß beim Lesen haben wird und etwas dabei lernt.

Ich vergebe 5 von 5 möglichen Sternen!

Rezension „Drachensturm - Cara und Silberklaue“ von Alastair Chisholm



Meinung

Möchtet ihr nicht auch gerne mal einen Drachen sehen? Ihn berühren oder gar mit ihm sprechen? Bislang konnten wir dies nur durch wenige Fantasy Buchreihen, doch dank dieser neuen „Drachensturm“ gibt es eine weitere, die für jeden Abenteurer, ob Jung oder Alt, ein Muss ist.

Alastair Chisholm führt auch in seinem zweiten Band der Reihe nach Draconis und während im ersten Band noch die Familie einen Mittelpunkt bildete, so ist es hier Freundschaft, Mut und Zuneigung. Auch Tom und seine Drachin Eisenschuppe warteten auf uns, ebenso können wir einen Blick auf Ellis und Mira werfen.

Deren Abenteuer dürfen wir in nicht allzu weiter Ferne entdecken worauf wir schon sehr gespannt sind. Meine kleinen Patenkinder waren direkt wieder von der großen Schrift und den kurzen Kapiteln gefesselt, welche zum Vor - aber auch Selber lesen einladen. Die Illustrationen füllen auch hier wieder die Seiten und lassen das Geschehen lebendig werden.

Beides, Erzählung und Illustrationen, geben ein harmonisches Gesamtbild ab, welche Faszination und Zauber in unseren Herzen weckte. Der Spannungsbogen ist von Beginn an hoch und wir begleiten Cara hautnah auf ihrem Weg. Die Geheimnisse der Handlung und die Ereignisse in der Gilde sich interessant gestaltet. Es macht ungeheuren Spaß dem Verlauf zu folgen.

Das Ende bereitet wieder einen überraschenden Twist und und gibt einen Vorgeschmack auf die kommenden Bücher. Unser Ruf nach mehr möchte erhört werden, denn wir will diese magischen Wesen nicht kennenlernen?



Fazit

„Drachensturm - Cara und Silberklaue“ steht seinem Vorgänger in nichts nach und entführt in ein großes Abenteuer inmitten einer Drachenseher-Gilde, den magischen Geschöpfen selbst und jungen Helden zum identifizieren. Spannung, Fantasie und zauberhafte Illustrationen wecken das Kind in eines jeden Leser Herzens. Wir sind bereit für mehr.

Really good series by Alistair Chisholm (Adam-2) for younger (y2+) . I read this and Tomas And Ironskin which have been released at the same time.
Cara lives on the streets of Rivven. When we meet her she is climbing the walls to break into the Kings apartment at the palace. She is hoping to steal a brooch. But she has help, a voice in her head who helps her avoid detection. The voice has been there as long as she can remember; it's her friend, the only one she can trust.
But something in the brooch moves and Cara drops it. An alarm sounds, Cara has to run. The voice is trying to help her but she's trapped. Just as she thinks she is about to be caught she is pulled into a room, a room where Malik introduces himself. The voice isn't happy.
He tells her what the voice in her head is....a dragon...but even the voice doesn't know if she really is a dragon. He tells Cara that she is a dragonseer. He invites her to go with him to meet some others that would like her to join them.
We follow Cara's journey to fit into the world she finds herself in.
Who wouldn't love a dragon for a best friend?
Excellent new series for those beginning their Reading for Pleasure journey. Looking forward to taking to school.
