The one that got away is now the one I refuse to let go. Enlisting was one of my life goals, so was marrying my high school sweetheart Sophie and escaping our small town. Nothing has ever hurt me more than when she turned down my proposal.
I was stupid back then, heartbroken and foolish. A one-night stand was supposed to help me get over Sophie, instead I got the girl pregnant and ruined any chance of Sophie ever looking my way again.
For the last few years I’ve focused on being the best father and soldier I could be. Now I’ve done my duty for my country and it’s time to take over raising my daughter, her mother insists it’s my turn. What better place to do it, than in my own hometown?
Sophie has moved on and is now a successful bakery owner, but she’s still the woman I could never forget. My daughter is her biggest fan, secretly so am I.
With a series of burglaries in town, Sophie is worried her bakery is next. I might not have made the right decisions all those years ago, but this time I’m going to prove to Sophie that I’m the right man for her.

I won't rate because I DNF. I definitely thought this was going to have some angst, but unfortunately, there was none.
I didn't connect with either character. Their reactions to certain situations were not realistic, plus they definitely didn't seem like main characters that were almost 30. Also, his daughter, who was nine, was part of conversations she had no business being a part of.
Oh, my heart. Sophie is everything I’d hoped and more. And Mark? Yeah, he messed up. And when he thinks he’s got it all straight, he realizes that he doesn’t. And that maybe letting emotions lead without a filter during times of panic is a bad idea. But Sophie is nothing if not a nurturer who worries about everyone before herself, so maybe Mark has a way back by proving that she’s got to be the first priority sometimes.
This is an excellent story about young love, how the lenses of youth can harm without meaning to, and how to set things right when time and maturity might be present to try again. And trust me when I say that Mark had some serious thinking and listening and rethinking to do. But once he gets it right, he doesn’t back down. He doesn’t run. He steps up and reminds Sophie that his love has never died and won’t in the future. As long as Sophie can let go of some of her fears, they definitely have their chance to build the forever they’d always wanted and certainly deserve.
Of course, like life, things aren’t always easy. Mark has a kid. She’s invested. And she’s a kid, so emotions can run high. But maybe everyone needs the wake up call that comes with youthful fear and anger to see just what they could be throwing away. Personally, I’m sad that I’m done reading this one because I enjoyed having my heart bruised that much by Sophie and Mark and Kendall. And I can’t wait for the next book!
A second chance…better timing. Sophie and Mark were everything to each other. Then he left to be in the military and they both had broken hearts. Sophie now owns the town bakery and Mark is back in town ….with his daughter. One run-in between these two and there is no denying the connection and chemistry between them is still there. As Sophie and and Mark get to know each other again it is all coming back to them. But now he has his daughter and her feelings to worry about. Can he juggle everything and be happy? Can this finally be happily ever after for these two? Between both their families, his ex and their friends they have a lot of people meddling in their business. I love this series sooo much and this book was no exception. I enjoyed getting to know these two and seeing them rekindle what they once had. Because they are older and wiser they are able to see their old relationship in a different light. It was eye opening for both of them. This is a fun series with amazing characters and great stories. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book.
Real, honest, flawed characters...you want to know. This is a second-chance, single dad, small-town romance with all the feels. The fierce and genuine connection Sophie & Mark shared and the absolute beauty of their friendship provides a rock solid base to build this engaging story off of. Their romance is beautiful and heart tugging. I definitely recommend this book and the series!
I loved Sophie and Mark’s love story in A Chance at Forever by Lea Coll, book six in the Second Chance Harbor series, a small town, second chance romance that I could not put down. This wonderful romance follows Sophie, the owner of the bakery shop, and Mark, a single dad and her high school sweetheart who returns with his young daughter. This is a wonderful story about young love, how the visions of youth can be harmful without meaning to, and how to set things right when time and maturity provide a chance to try again.
Sophie and Mark were high school sweethearts, but due to miscommunication and assumptions only a teenager in love could make, Sophie and Mark separated with broken hearts after Mark asked Sophie to marry him and follow him when he enlisted in the Army. Sophie said no; not because she didn't care about Mark, but because of family obligations that she thought he knew about. Feeling unloved and being away from home, Mark has a one-night stand with another woman, resulting in a pregnancy and the birth of his daughter, Kendall; the center of his universe.
Fast forward ten years, and Mark comes back to Annapolis to raise his daughter, Kendall. It didn’t take long for Mark and Sophie to reconnect. Time might have passed, but their feelings for each other had not changed. Learning about the burglaries in the area, Mark became protective of Sophie, stopping by for a morning chat when she arrived at her bakery early in the morning to bake. Sophie being able to connect with Kendall by giving her baking lessons, so her compassionate side, caring about the nine-year old. With them being older and wiser, hopefully they can reignite their old relationship in a different light, and improve on it this second time around, as they work through their misunderstandings and miscommunications.
Ms Coll wrote a wonderful romance, filled with humor, magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, and life altering changes that is a must read story. Although they had once broken each other’s heart, Sophie and Mark are truly meant for each, despite the roller coaster ride they took on their journey giving them a second chance to having a life together. I highly recommend A Chance at Forever to other readers and can’t wait to read the next story in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Are you ready for more of The Second Chance Harbor Series by Lea Coll? Here it is! The 6th book called: *A Chance at Forever*
Sophie and Mark were teenage sweethearts but life got in the way... Now she's a successful bakery owner and he's a single dad who's back in town. How will Sophie react when she'll see Mark again - after all this time? And why did he moved back with his daughter?
Oooh a lot of questions! And you'll find all the answers in the book!
So what can I say about A Chance at Forever? I'd definitely love to move into this small town and be part of this awesome clique! 🤗 Lea Coll just knows how to make you swoon and feel with the characters. The story of Sophie and Mark is the perfect love story for all hopeful romantics out there! They were together when they were teenagers, life happened and now years later they meet again. Aaaaaawwww! All those old feelings! The memories! The chemistry! ❤️ It's not easy to deal with it on both sides. They changed and moved on... but maybe there's a chance for a HEA?! I won't spoil you! But trust me when I say that I'm moooore than happy about this book! 🙂 I loved Sophie and Mark from the first page on. Both have a lot of responsibilities and other stuff they've to deal with. Good thing that there a friends and family around town to support them along their journey.
I absolutely enjoyed the story of Sophie and Mark. A great second chance love story who'll show you that it's never too late to believe in true love. ❤️
Once again be still my beating heart, Lea Coll has produced yet another brilliant romance in the Second Chance Harbor series, A Chance at Forever is everything that you would want in a second chance romance, a truly emotionally driven book with great depth in every page I turned, this is one story that you could close your eyes and picture the internal turmoil that both Sophie and Mark are dealing with. Mark is back home, retired from the army with his 9-year old daughter now living with him, while her mom decides it is time for her to have a bit of freedom, Sophie never left Second Chance Harbor, now the local baker her life is her shop and her family, but 10 year ago at 18 her heart was broken when she and Mark broke up and he left town for the military, now he is back with an adorable if not hurt little girl who doesn’t quite understand what is happening in her young life, from the moment the couple meet again there is no denying the connection is still strong but so is all the hurt that both have been carrying for 10-years.
A Chance at Forever is of healing, of righting wrongs, of soul gripping chemistry and with the promise that even with the bumps in the road and this couple have to overcoming that the invisible thread that still binds them together might only be damaged and can be repaired to give us a perfect HEA, because if any couple deserve it is Sophie and Mark, I have to give a shout out to young Kendall, Lea Coll portrayed this little girl with a great detail and great affection.
“Sophie’s Sweets” was a dream come true for Sophie since she has been helping out her dad with her younger sisters since her mom past and that is the reason she did what she did 10 years ago .. Mark .. and now he is BACK !!
After enlisting at eighteen, have a child at nineteen and finding myself back at home at twenty eight with my daughter in tow because her mom needed a “break”, Mark never thought his feelings for Sophie would be as strong as they were the first time her saw her on his morning jog. With the one look and one touch could all those loving feeling for her come rolling right back in ??
These two individuals have had and still have real feelings for each other even after 10 years have past BUT they have a very important person to consider .. Kendall and Sophie and Mark will do everything in there power to protect her BUT who is going to protect the neighborhood for the Burglar that is still in the loose …. Mark can only do so much to protect Sophie at the bakery in the early mornings until Kendall starts school.
Mark has enough in his plate right know .. he has time before he has to nail down a job and decide what he wants to do because he knows he does not want to go into the family lumber business BUT he is good with his hands a building things from the lumber but he also has to consider what to do if Melanie ever comes back ??
All of this pressure, stress and LOVE are all in this one installment and it will have you cheering for these two to finish what they started 10 years ago !! They deserve a CHANCE !!
4.5 Stars! Love is never easy or painless, but worth it nonetheless!
Sophie and Mark have a heartbreaking history. Their young love was foiled by a demanding father (Mark’s) and circumstances beyond their control. Add in the fact that they were both young, naive and didn’t communicate crucial bits of information with each other, and the demise of their relationship and future was inevitable.
Their story is one of pure, young love and future hopes and plans that didn’t work out the first time around. But the heart wants what it wants, even if said heart’s owner is unaware!
This story was emotional, tragic, and heartfelt. There was so much responsibility heaped onto Sophie’s shoulders and she handled it the best she could and did what she felt was best for her family, regardless of how it imploded her personal life and future. She was an admirable and amazing character!
Mark was a bit more difficult for me. I found his actions after Sophie’s “rejection” to be petty or petulant. I understand that he was hurt and heartbroken, but he knew Sophie better than to believe she saw him in the same light as his father. I was, however, impressed with him as a father to Kendall. He struck the right balance between caring and leading her on the right path. He still had some questionable actions that kept me from being 100% team Mark. But he made Sophie happy in the end!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest opinion.
Sophie and Mark were high school sweethearts. Young and in love. When Mark asked Sophie to marry him and she said no he thought she didn’t love him like he thought. He had just enlisted and assumed she would go with him. What he didn’t know was she couldn’t leave. Her family needed her. She loved Mark but she just couldn’t leave. He took it as a rejection rather than know the truth. Ten years later Mark is back but as a single dad. His love for Sophie has never diminished. But can he start something again with her when he doesn’t know what the future holds. His first priority is Kendal. It wasn’t the right time for them 10 years ago. Now they both have responsibilities and have grown and matured. Could it be their time now? Lea Coll once again creates a couple you cannot get enough of. Getting their happily ever after is not easy. Sophie has always put everyone first ahead of herself. Always sacrificing her own dreams for others. Now her time has come NO ONE is more deserving of a happily ever after and forever than her and with someone she never forgot and has always loved.
A Chance At Forever is a second chance, single dad, small town romance. It is told in a dual POV and even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone.
Sophie and Mark were high school sweethearts whose relationship ended when Mark joined the military after Sophie rejected his marriage proposal. Now ten years later Mark has returned home with his daughter and sparks fly when Sophie and Mark bump into each other.
I’ve really enjoyed reading Sophie and Marks story. As always Lea’s writing is fantastic and the story was nicely paced and flowed beautifully. Again, as with all Lea’s book I was hooked from the start and couldn’t put it down. I always enjoy being back in Annapolis and this time was no different. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know these characters, their shared history and seeing them rebuild what they once had. Their connection and chemistry was intense and sizzling. There’s a lot of unresolved history between them and some twists and turns to get to their well deserved happy ever after. Another great addition to the series and I can’t wait for the next one instalment.
I loved this book so much.... Probably one of my favorites but then again every single one in the series has something amazing. Second chance romance is not my favorite cup of tea as usually the authors create stories that are heartbreaking as you read about people that should be together, live apart and one or both moving on.
However this one was really well written and you felt the struggles from both Mark and Sophie. The initial breakup was explained and put into perspective and although it might be considered as misunderstanding, it is basically one of those cases where they were just too young to be together and they needed perhaps this time apart.
Some of the points I liked: * Mark being a single father played a significant role in the story and there were many moments were their second chance could fall apart.
* Sophie had other relationship(s) but nothing matched her love for Mark.
* They were both virgins before they broke up which I found also bittersweet as they lost the chance to be each other's first
If you like sweet, real characters in a small town without over the top drama and with well written intimate scenes, then this is definitely a book for you!🥰 .
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Mark Walters hoped that returning home to Annapolis, with his nine-year-old daughter Kendall, would be the chance they needed to bond as father and daughter. He has missed much of Kendall’s life, during his deployments with the military, but now he is home to stay. Running into his high school sweetheart, Sophie Hendrix, affected him more than he thought, but she seemed just as affected by him. Years ago, when he had asked her to marry him, she said no and he assumed that she didn’t love him. Slowly he learns what her life had been like, after he enlisted, when she helped raise her four younger sisters. She couldn’t leave as she had to be there for her family. He knows that Kendall must be his first priority, but is it too late for them to rediscover their long-ago love? As he reviews his options for a new career, Sophie works to expand her bakery to include wedding events. Such a pleasant update with the many friends from previous books. Nicely done ! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation, from the author, for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
A Chance at Forever is the 6th book in Lea Coll’s Second Chance Harbor series. It’s a complete stand-alone title, but as a self-proclaimed big fan of this author’s books, I highly recommend reading them all in order. Lea Coll consistently delivers a cast of well-written and well-developed characters.
Mark and Sophie’s story is a true second-chance romance (my favorite trope) with the hero also a single father. These two were high school sweethearts who inadvertently hurt each other by not being able to communicate well. With so much unresolved history between them, it’s no wonder this story felt much more emotionally intense. Watching the evolution of both characters was both heartwarming and heartbreaking as they worked toward their HEA and navigated the twists and turns along the way. This book is sure to keep you engaged and not wanting to put it down. I very much enjoyed my time back in this world, and I’m a bit sad to see this series end but looking forward to what comes next from this author.
I'm a fan of this series and was excited to read about this couple. And now I'm not sure If I like Mark for her. I get that they were young when they broke up but even 10 years later I didn't get the feeling like he knew just how special she was. I mean she loved his daughter even though It would be fair if she didn't.
Sophie gave so much of herself to others and I don't think he gave as much back. Now this is not a diss to Mark. He is an upstanding guy. He has his priorities in line when it comes to his daughter, but not so much when it comes to Sophie. Despite everything life has thrown his way, he's still learning how to depend on someone else and not just himself.
I did enjoy reading their story and even shed a tear or two, I was happy that their HEA finally came even if it was 10 years in the making.

This is my favorite book in the Second Chance Harbor series!!! Sophie and Mark were everything!!
Sophie is the town's baker. She owns a successful bakery and is a mom to her younger sisters. She has not found love again since Mark, her high school boyfriend left town after she turned down her proposal. Mark is back in town after serving time in the military. He has his 9 year old daughter with him. When Sophie and Mark since each other again for the first time, it's electric. The feelings are still there, the passion, everything....but also a lot of hurt. Things ended bad years ago and it will take a lot to heal their hearts.
The biggest problem between the two is communication!!! If they would just say what they felt/thought, everything would be better. But they don't want to hurt the other person. I love how their romance grew. They worked on their friendship first and then took it further. Ugh, the swoon worthy moments!! It was like they were finally seeing each other for the first time.
Love, this couple!!!!! Lea Coll knocked it out of the park with this one!
A Chance at Forever is a great conclusion to this series! I feel like this book did an amazing job at continuing to build the world that’s been created throughout the series but also closed it so well too! Mark and Sophie are adorable and their second chance story was so well written.
Due to miscommunication and assumptions only a teenager in love could make, Sophie and Mark separated with broken hearts, and after a one-night stand, Mark also left their relationship with a child. Fast forward ten years, and Mark has moved back to town to raise his daughter. However, Mark and Sophie’s relationship quickly went back to the level it was as teenagers.
With the break ins and Mark’s future up in the air due to his daughter, Mark and and Sophie have a lot to figure out to see if they can make it work this time!
Second Chance. Sophie and Mark were sweethearts in high school. Because they were young, they didn't know how to communicate very well. Mark asked Sophie to marry him and follow him because he enlisted in the Army. Sophie said no - not because she didn't think he was worthy but because she had family obligations that she thought he knew about. When Mark comes back to Annapolis with his daughter, they have some misunderstandings to work through. I liked how Mark was very protective of Sophie when there were problems with burglars in the area. Sophie connects with Mark's daughter when she gives her baking lessons. Will they be able to work through their misunderstandings? This is a wonderful book about communication. I received an early copy of the book to read and review. I'm leaving my honest review.
If you enjoy second chance romance, you’re going to love this beautiful story centered around Mark and Sophie. After high school Mark enlisted and proposed, but Sophie turned him down. She couldn’t leave her younger sisters. Mark was hurt and after a one night stand, he becomes a dad. Now, it’s ten years later and Mark has returned to Annapolis with his daughter, Kendall. Her mom, Melanie has decided it’s Mark’s turn to take her because she wants to travel. Sophie has her own bakery in town, Sophie’s Sweets. One morning as she’s unlocking the door, a jogger approaches. Luckily, it’s Mark wanting water and not the burglar. Mark starts stopping by after his run and they get reacquainted. Will this be the second chance they deserve or will Mark end up leaving again? Grab your copy of this beautiful story and see what happens.
Ten years ago, Sophie wasn't ready to commit to marriage and follow her teenage boyfriend, so he enlisted in the military. Although full of regrets, Sophie knew her place was with her family looking after her younger siblings after her mother died. But that doesn't mean Mark wasn't only the one who got away, he was also the one who broke her heart. And now he's back home, with his nine year old daughter in tow! Mark knows he screwed up, he knows that getting his one night stand pregnant that it would change his life forever, but once he's seen Sophie again, he knows he can't lose her twice. This is a story of unfinished business, trust, loyalty, family and a sulky pre-teen! What a great conclusion to this series. I loved reading about the lives in this Second Chance Harbor Series and catching up on previous characters with the intertwining of their lives.
Sophie fell in love with Mark when she was a teenager however his dreams of joining the army conflicted with her need to be there for her family, so he left and she stayed. In the last decade she has created a life for herself which includes owning her own business, but she has never forgotten her first and only love.
Mark felt betrayed when Sophie didn’t choose to leave with him so after a one-night stand, he finds out he is about to be a father. His daughter Kendall is his greatest joy and now that he has left the army he has returned to his hometown. He soon realizes that the chemistry and connection between them hasn’t diminished over time, and he is determined to protect her from the suspicious happenings in town so that they can finally have their second chance.
I enjoyed seeing the relationship unfold not only between Sophie and Mark but Sophie and his daughter Kendall as well. The way they resumed their relationship it was like they hadn’t been apart at all and only confirmed that they were always meant to be together.
This was a second chance romance for anyone who believes in them! Sophie and Mark were high school sweethearts when everything went wrong. Mark ended up leaving for the military and had a fling that resulted in a child. Years later, Sophie is still in the same place and has opened a bakery. Mark returns with his daughter to raise her in the same place that he grew up. They end up spending time together because of the break ins at local businesses. Can they overcome the past to have a future together? I really enjoyed reading their journey to happiness!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
Mark and Sophie were high school sweethearts. But family situations tore both of them apart after high school graduation. Mark goes into the military - Sophie stays to help her family. Ten years later, Mark is back in Annapolis, hoping to build a relationship with his daughter and figure out the next stage of his life. And maybe, win back the girl who got away. Sophie is a successful business owner of her own bakery - still dedicated to her family but longing for one of her own.
I have read all the other books in this series and loved them all. I highly recommend! But you could read this one as a stand alone.
Such a sweet story! I loved Mark and Sophie's story! Sophie was the one that got away, the girl that rejected his proposal before he enlisted. Sophie had her reasons for turning him down, but never got the chance to explain. Now Mark is back, trying to be a single father to his daughter Kendall. I loved how protective Mark was of both his daughter and of Sophie. Will Mark and Sophie get their second chance at forever, or is it too late for them to start over? I've only read a few books from this series, but I have loved them and definitely plan on reading the rest.
There is something incredibly special about Lea Coll’s 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗿 series and each book brings that concept home. Small town love stories are the best kind of romance reads especially when you fall in love with all the primary and secondary characters like I have with this series.
𝗔 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 is an emotional second chance romance. Sophie is the town’s beloved baker. She is as sweet as the treats she’s famous for. Strong, tenacious and warm-hearted, I was rooting for her from the very beginning. Mark wormed his way into my heart. Such a big man, with a big heart, carrying all kinds of weight on his big shoulders. He and his daughter Kendall were deserving of happiness and together with Sophie, they found it and it was very special.
If you like your love stories slightly angsty, with a serving of heat and steam and a dash of sweet and heartwarming, 𝗔 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 is the perfect read for you. I’m giving it the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
Ooh, with the way Sophie and Mark seemed to seamlessly find each other weaved in each other's lives after being apart for 10 years, I knew it was too easy. Being young and in love only to break each other's hearts unintentionally. I felt for Sophie when she found out Mark had a daughter with another woman that wasn't her, but I loved that she found a way to not only bond with Kendall, but found Kendall a friend, too. I loved that in a way Mark became Sophie's protector while getting to rediscover each other again. I loved that it was a slowburn but could feel that it seemed no time had passed between the two. Loved it!
Sophie has always put her family first. So when Mark ask her to marry him and leave her family behind, she has no choice but to say no. Now here it is 10 years later and he is back. Now with a daughter in tow Mark has returned and with is return comes old feelings and missed opportunities.
Mark and Sophie are some pretty amazing people. They both have caring and nurturing personalities. They also have a love lying dormant inside their souls just begging to be recognized.
This book like all the others in the series is heartfelt and endearing to the readers. It has a old flame storyline with a journey of redemption for the characters to travel. It touches on the sensitivity of losing a loved one and the joy of forgiveness. It also has the back drop story of the terror that comes with a burglar on the loose.
Several characters from other books return in our story and we meet new characters along the way. This book paths the path for the next to come and it is exciting. Lea Coll has created a beautiful world of caring characters that treat each other as if they are one big family. Her stories touch your soul and add a little bit of spice to your life. They are worthy of any Hallmark movie storyline and will leave you with a joyous feeling inside. Each book could be read as a standalone book, but where is the fun in that?
Putting it all on the line for the long awaited second chance they both want and need A Chance At Forever (Second Chance Harbor Book 6) by Lea Coll is more than just a second chance. This romance not only brings high school sweethearts back together, but builds a stronger connection through friendship. Sophie and Mark both misunderstood the other's reasons for their break up years ago. Once an understanding is clear for both of them, friendship is solidified. But friendship quickly becomes not enough. Both Sophie and Mark crave more of each other and the resounding question rings out: Will they be willing to take the risk? I have loved every book in the Second Chance Harbor Series and Mark and Sophies romance has been much anticipated as it was hinted at in a few of the previous books. I was so glad to finally find out what happened way back and see how the author took these characters on their second chance journey. Overall, Sophie and Mark work through their worries and fears, finding strength in one another and hold on tightly, earning their perfect and long awaited HEA. Despite fearing they were never meant to be, listening to their hearts prove otherwise, embarking on a wonderful, loving, family-filled promising future. I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.
I was a stupid guy back in high school. I proposed to my high school sweetheart Sophie but when she turned me down I was heartbroken and then I made my stupid mistake. A one night stand with girl who got pregnant and that completely ruined any hope of getting together with Sophie. I decided to enlist and become the best father and solider that I knew how. Once out of the Army Mark decides its time to step up and raise his daughter. Mark gets his daughter and moved back to his hometown to raise her. Sophie is now a successful baker but is having troubles with burglaries in her bakeries. Mark feels its his chance to make things up to Sophie and figure out what is happening and put an end to it.
