Jennifer Knight should be in her first semester of college; instead, she is broke, lonely, and beginning to lose her sanity.
Escaping from bounty hunters, she is separated from all her friends and allies. With only an uncooperative cactus and desert creatures for company, not even her improving magic can quell the nightmares from the failed attempt to save her werewolf boyfriend.
In her prized Camaro, Jen turns to the City of Angels to end her isolation. A plan to make some quick cash goes horrendously wrong, and some backstabbing criminals learn what it means to cross someone like Jen. Unfortunately, that's not the only mistake she makes in LA.
Jen retreats to the desert, planning to remain in isolation, but a chance encounter with a satyr entices Jen from her hiding place. She accepts help from the well-meaning feminist who offers respite from Jen’s dreams of fire and death, as well as an invitation to speak with a Russian magician who might be able to answer some of Jen's questions.
But Jen's mere presence puts the empathetic satyrs in danger from threats both ancient and new. Their only hope is if Jen can learn to dance in the magic. Even then, it might not be enough.
TY BURSON was born in Riverside, California. His mother and her family emigrated from Canada, while most of his father’s people hailed from Oklahoma. After completing an Associates Degree in general education, Ty joined the Air Force. Ty signed on to be a Russian Crypto-logic Linguist, went off to basic training, and eventually ended up in Monterey, California. It was there that Ty met his future wife, Kerri.
Ty finished his Bachelor’s degree before leaving the Air Force. Eventually, four kids and a couple of career changes later, Ty went back to school, got his teaching certification, joined the Air National Guard, and began teaching middle school in Florissant, Missouri.
It was at a conference for middle school teachers that Ty got the idea for a lucky dragon that protected a fishing village. A protagonist with a stutter and a demon came along much later. While the novel got shelved when Ty decided that he had to have a Doctorate in Education, it never entirely left his mind—as few wonderful ideas ever do.
Currently, Ty and his family live in Maryland, where he continues to teach after completing his Doctorate and retiring from the Air National Guard in 2011. Ty is known for entertaining his students with funny poems and stories, and for wearing bizarre, entertaining ties.
I love that Jen has gathered a few magical items to help her avoid the wizards who are determined to snatch her, but mostly she’s relied on running, defensive magic shots and hiding. A life on the run is not fun, but she’s making new friends, learning magic and becoming skilled slipping from one movement form to the next in Ka’for. Jen is on a journey during this book and what she learns is amazing! This book has action, danger, bounty hunters, were-wolves, wizards, magic, wards, her magic frog, vampires, mystery, Ka’for, La Lechuza, Satyrs, suspense, Sparkles, truth seer, gargoyle, humor and more!
Another good urban fantasy set in the 80s and i even recognized (remembered) most of the references. Jennifer in hiding is the theme of most of the book. There are a couple of magical battles but his story is primarily about Jennifer trying to figure things out. Overall, a mostly light hearted story with some seriousness when needed and a good set up for the next book.
So, Jen blew it with her impulsive attempt to rescue her boyfriend, and now she's hunted - and haunted. And who better to break her funk, and help her learn valuable lessons, than a satyr? Clothing optional (grin)
The latest in the saga of the Shoplifters Guide to Wizardry takes us into a brilliant world . If I could spell Satiers correctly I would tell you all about it , but your gonna have to read it for yourself.
Jennifer faces her darkest demons, struggles with nightmares, and stumbles upon wonderful new friends and allies. They help her find herself again as she regains the courage and strength to move on. Finally, she is heading in the right direction.
This book is different than 3 of the first 4 books. Jen, dealing with the grief of recent events, goes into hiding and comes across the most unlikely of allies as she is forced to go on the run. Our Jen is growing up so fast.
Ty burson delivers yet again every book I read gets better each time. This series is developing into an amazingly captivating story one that I'm sure to follow
Satyrs! There are Satyrs! A lot happens in Jen’s world but I’m hung up on the Satyrs. I’ve got to talk about the book. Great character building. The author does a great job of introducing new characters and making you want to know about them and their lives. Jen is young and makes crazy , young choices but she shows growth. She’s learning about herself and especially that her choices have consequences. She faces some magical adversaries. This series can advance in many, many directions and I can’t wait to see where Jen heads next. Well worth a read but start at the beginning with Pour Some Magic on Me. Happy reading!
