Life is bleak for Tara Morris – working three jobs, juggling monstrous debts and coping with a bone-idle husband, she will do anything to dig herself out of the financial blackhole she finds herself in. Anything , including robbing Mr and Mrs Crompton, the millionaire couple she cleans for twice a week.
But Tara will get more than she bargains for when she goes to relieve them of some of their assets in the dead of night…
This is an extreme horror story, with plenty of twists and turns. Reader discretion is advised.
I think this is my first Sam West book and I have to say I was utterly captivated and could not put it down. The book is headed one way, a down on her luck girl cleaning a house for a rich couple and she plans to rob them while they are on vacation, because everyone knows that rich people wouldn’t miss the money in their safe, right?
But then, it takes on a whole other life of its own. I am honestly flabbergasted with the way it turned.
Please check all trigger warnings before reading this is an extreme horror.
I wasn’t expecting this to be a vampire story that’s for sure! This was pretty good, but not mind blowing. I plan on reading more from this author in the future though.
Tana works three jobs. One of which is working for the Cromptons. Whilst the job pays well the wife is stuck up and cruel, whilst the husband is just plain weird. I suppose that means they’re deserving of what they’re going to get, as Tana plans on robbing them one night when they’re out. When she finally breaks in, what she witnesses changes EVERYTHING.
It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of West. This isn't my favorite offerings from her, but she is one of the reasons that I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. It seems like her stories are getting shorter and shorter, but short actually suited this story. Also, KU is like having a library card, so length isn't really a problem. Short stuff is a great way to make use of KU> West is known to blend extreme with supernatural, but this one was more supernatural than extreme in my opinion. I don't want to say what the twist was because that would give it away, but it's not my fave sub genre. Also, I enjoyed her note at the end about 'how extreme is too extreme?'. For me, this offering wasn't very extreme (especially compared to the past books of hers that I've read), but that is only one person's opinion (mine only). What I call mild, I'm sure someone else would say that that story was too extreme. Even if it's not my fave book of West, I'm still glad I read it and still glad that I'm a fan
Tara Morris lives in the Broadgate area of London. She’s 34, and she must work three jobs due to her and her husband’s massive debts.
One of the best-paying jobs is her cleaning gig for Jake and Bella Crompton. Tara cleans for the Cromptons twice weekly.
Heavy wealth resentment in this story. Tara has an unhealthy animosity towards her employers.
The hatred becomes severe. Bella is pretty bitchy, but Tara is way OTT in her nasty thoughts and plans. It’s not the Crompton’s fault that Tara and her husband have gotten themselves into such a financial pickle.
Tara thinks Jake and Bella will be out of town on Thursday. So when she breaks into their home, she gets a nasty surprise.
A plethora of editing issues; and it’s really bad when you can’t even get your MC’s name right (spoiler alert: it’s not Sara).
Weird tone with unlikable characters. Not very scary or creepy or horrific. Bizarre choice for the ending.
It was just "okay". Vampires always come across as cringey to me, so I didn't really love that it went in that direction. Also, I felt that Tara switched from thinking "Mr. Crompton is creepy" to "Mr. Crompton is the love of my life" way too quickly (in almost a single page), while the entire first 20% of the book was spent talking about her cleaning the building and hating the Cromptons. I will certainly check out other works by Sam West in the future, though.
This was an exciting and page turning story. Tara plans to rob the household she is cleaning. But things turn out different. Completely different... as usually Sam West directly comes to the heart of the matter. Swift sketches, plausible characters, a good shot of nasty extreme horror and the horror fest is ready. Nice and sleazy and not to be taken easy. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!
