He was my brother’s best friend… but my brother was never the problem. Everything else was.
Sloan-
Have you ever felt such a pull to one person that you cannot control yourself around them? Just one mention of their name and a fire ignites deep within?
Well I, Sloan Barton, had that connection... with my brother’s best friend.
You see, I was in love with Wesley King long before I ever knew what love was. Always tagging along, admiring him from afar.
Until one day, he loved me back.
Except I found out he wasn’t mine first and because of that, I had no choice but to let him go.
Although I tried desperately and failed to fight the pull between us over the years, that wouldn’t be the last time we had to walk away from each other.
Wes-
I’ll never forget the moment I realized the sweet kid I grew up with had turned into the girl I couldn’t stop thinking about.
I fell hard.
Suddenly, she became all my hopes and dreams. Until life pulled us in different directions.
They say timing is everything, so when I see the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on sitting in my bar… I take that as my sign.
A New Yorker and a Southern Belle. Two Book Obsessed Babes that became lifelong best friends over their love for a good romance novel.
When they're not writing, they're devouring a good book, or spending time with their family and friends. Total opposites in some ways and exactly the same in others, making them a dynamic author duo.
Re read for this first time and ugh I just love Wes & Sloan. Wes is the perfect MMC and I will always love how strong Sloan is.

OMG y’all. If you take any suggestions I have when it comes to book recommendations you need to read this. I was in slow burn hell & this book pulled me out of it. I don’t know the last time I read a book that gripped me from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down while reading. Dare I say my favorite brothers best friend book I’ve read this year?!
Reckless Abandon follows Wesley & Sloan. Childhood friends to lovers, brothers best friend and second chance all wrapped up into one. Let’s not forget about the pining for each other for YEARS and the right person/wrong time might have nearly broke me while reading their story but so beautifully written by L.A. Shaw.
Wes is Sloan’s brother Eli best friend. Their families have been friends for years so not only are Wesley always around each other growing up because of his and Eli’s friendship but because their parents do everything together too. Sloan realizes she has loved Wes at a young age and it takes Wes a little bit of time to catch up but let me tell you when he does he falls HARD. Every time you think they’ve finally got it right it’s ripped away from them yet again. Once the stars finally align for them to be together, Wesley refuses to let anything get in the way of them finally being together.
These two face so many obstacles in their relationship, one of the biggest being Sloan’s sister that for their own separate reasons keeps them apart for so long. I loved how confident and strong Sloan was in herself. Wes is such a swoon worthy king.
I love a good nickname in books and thank you for giving us several in this one. Wes’s being Zeus because he was built like a Greek god and Sloan’s being Lo (mostly called this by her friends) and Wes’s nickname for her, Thea. The meaning behind that nickname will have you swooning. The secret tattoo, the drink name?! I mean come onnn. These two’s love story was heartbreaking beautiful and so happy they finally got their timing right.
Cannot wait to be emotionally wrecked for Eli & Quinn’s book.
Tropes - brothers best friend - childhood friends to lovers - right person/wrong time - second chance - sex positive FMC
ℝ𝕖𝕔𝕜𝕝𝕖𝕤𝕤 𝔸𝕓𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕠𝕟 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 I had the pleasure or getting to ARC Reckless Abandon by L.A. Shaw!! This book is so much more than a Brother's Best Friend. The heart that you could tell was poured into these characters and this "new" world was evident by the journey that you were brought on.
I loved that we met all of these characters on the premise of them being a part of three families who were super close and spent summers together, holidays, etc. This leads into the understanding of just how close they all are. Sloan was the kid sister that was always tagging along and trying to hang out with her older siblings. With that came her constant desire to be around her brother's best friend, Wes. He was and always would be her crush, the one she would never be able to have…or so she thought.
Wes knew she wasn't who he needed to pursue. He could have any giri, but all he wanted was Sloan. He noticed her once he came back from school and she had "grown" up. Their secret interactions and quiet moments when they saw each other across the room gave me all the feels. He thought Eli, Sloan's brother, would be the one who stood in the way but L.A. Shaw threw me for a loop and gave Brother's Best Friend a bit of a twist.
I can 100% say that Wes was one of the most perfect book boyfriends I have read in a while. He would walk on water and burn down the world for Sloan. He never understood the separation that Sloan insisted they take. He never wanted to step away from her.....she was everything to him.
Their journey showed growth and heart! I loved how open they were with each other and how open with understanding they were meant for each other but it just wasn't in the cards. The way he fought for her and the way that she was so confident and in touch with her femininity was refreshing! I love seeing a kick butt woman and the man who is there to support her.
This book gave me all the feels and I loved getting to start a new world written by these gems! ☆☆☆☆☆!!!
boring. boring. boring. Personally wouldn’t be with someone who fucked my sister, but that’s just my opinion. I don’t judge, except with this book I actually did judge a lot.

Loved it! I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Wes and Lo are so meant for each other but finding the right time was difficult. I really liked how they went back in time to really create the relationship. I couldn’t put it down and wanted more!
LA SHAW know how to write a man that knows what he wants and be the one falling first and openly swooning from the get go! Wesley King is in love with Sloan, his best friends little sister and something always got in the way until they just threw caution to the wind and took what they want
This is fast paced. Sex positive, swoon worthy and spicy all wrapped in a little bow.
Sloan is an amazing character and her energy draws you in and love the fact she is the sexual one as well as the male character, but Wesley king…he can dirty talk lordddddd. He is book HUSBAND
If you love childhood friend, best friend sister, second chance love them this is for you!
I don’t even know where to start!!!! I FREAKING LOVE WES, this book was absolutely everything everything everything!!!!!!! L. A. Shaw has become my favorite author, not do they only write the best book boyfriend EVER, but the characters are so relatable and well written… gaaahhhhhhh Wess and Lo was one of the most heartfelt, romantic and SUPER HOT story I’ve ever read. My heart is full 😍😍😍😍🥵🥵🥵🥵
ARC Review of Reckless Abandon by L.A. Shaw * * * * * A second chance romance that sparks in the youth and explodes into hot and steamy goodness in their adult lives as everything falls into places...as well as spirals from the drama!
Sloane was not new to the experiences of having hot naughty dreams of her brother's best friend. He was handsome and good to her and made her feel things no one else has ever done for her. Wes...was almost just as bad. Sloane had grown into a beautiful young woman, and he soon could not keep his hands to himself. Sneaking around was fun but there was the issue of how other men were looking at Sloane and Wes not exactly hiding his feelings well. There was one real obstacle that was going to be a challange if they wanted to openly love each other...and that was her brother Eli. Just as it appeared everything was going well and they would get their happily ever after... a truth is spilled to Sloane and has her parting way with Wesley, her king now gone. Years later and one tattoo after a disasterous Christmas, they can't keep their hands off each other. Sure, Wes has a massive crazed stalker celebrity ex constantly wanting him, but they are going to be sure to fight for their love this time...even if some of their family isn't exactly totally on their side and the reason they broke in the first place.
Really great read. The drama! They were so close in their youth. Taylor...you are a straight up pig. Maddy! How could you?! Wes...you could have had better taste in women...especially sleeping with something so nasty as you ex booty call.
Wesley and Sloan… freaking Zeus and Thea… 🫠🫠🫠 Not only do these two have the sweetest connection from a young age but their connection is 🔥🔥 and the SPICE they bring, y’all! 🥵
The ‘it was always you’ and ‘brothers best friend’ tropes are always my favorite!! 🥹 This book is the perfect mixture of swoon and steam and I loved the friend group they have! 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘮𝘦 𝘶𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘓𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘴 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴. 🥃 Wes and Lo take us on a back and forth ‘right person, wrong time’ journey and give us everything thing we need plus more. 👏🏻
I am BEYOND excited to see where the other characters end up. This definitely had me needing more. 😍

I had the pleasure of being a beta reader for these babes, and, they do not disappoint! They bring the spice in the first few pages.
This story is the perfect depiction of - Right person wrong time - Childhood friends to lovers - Second chance - Brothers best friend
Wesley King! A man who knows exactly who he wants and doesn't stop trying until he gets it. Only has eyes for one blue-eyed brunette. He's alluring, swoonworthy, and knows how to dirty talk between the sheets
Sloan is sexy and confident in her own skin. I like how she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to express herself. She also has this big protective heart for the ones she loves.
Their story is flirty, definitely steamy, full of angst with some twists along the way.
Wow what an amazing love story!! You won't be disappointed if you decide to read this love story! This book has it all the amazing love story and the spice!
This is a brother's best friend second chance romance. The main characters are Wes and Sloan. Wes and Sloan are the ultimate goals! Everything is stacked against them until one day the stars align and they find their way back to each other.
These ladies write amazing books, I have yet again fallen in love with another one of their books. They sure know how to get you hooked on a book from the first chapter.
Lo(Sloan) and Wesley couldn’t get their timings right to be able to be a couple to lack of either people interfering or miscommunication. You can feel their strong feelings towards each other through the years.
This was my first LA Shaw book and it did not disappoint! I loved the "framily" feel to the book and the deep connection that was so easily felt between Wes and Sloan. I was laughing out loud at some parts ( the drink Lunas Nectar IYKYK), and swooning so hard throughout so much of the book. I also loved the past and present aspect of the book, it was so well done. ALSO the secret tattoo... SO. GOOD. I loved this a lot. I love a good its always been you vibe and man LA Shaw reallly does it so well!! 4/5 stars 2/5 spice
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the flashbacks to see how the main characters connected but also struggled to finally be together. Such a good story about never giving up on your first love, what’s meant to be will be. Can’t wait for the next book.
I love how this book was written with the flash backs in between so we know what happened over the years. At first I was like damn they haven’t seen each other in 9 years or what? 😂
It’s crazy that it took that long for them to finally get on the same page and make it work. I’m glad the distance wasn’t long when they finally made it official.
Loved Sloans character! She was light, carefree and lovable. I loved her relationship with her friends, they’re all crazy and alike-always down for fun and supportive.
Wesley was added to my book boyfriends list lol. I love how after he got his head out of his ass he wasn’t afraid to speak up and tell Sloan how he felt. He knew what he wanted and he didn’t want to hide that Sloan is the love of his life. I wish he was more harsh towards Danni because she didn’t hold back with her lies.
OMG! Wes and Sloan😍 These two were everything I need and I believe Wes has officially made it into my top 10 book boyfriends!🫠
I received this ARC and I feel in love with it. Life long friends, brothers best friend. Give me all the feels. No matter the time apart the feelings never go away! If I say more I’m likely to give away spoilers, so with that go grab this book and read it you will not be disappointed!😮💨🤤
I love Wes & Lo’s book!! The stars have finally aligned for them & I’m here for it 😍😍 this was such a slow burn read— talk about breaking your heart & putting it all back together in the end. And I can’t wait to read the rest of the books! I’m especially looking forward to Eli & Quinn’s 🥺😍
Spoilers‼️ This book had its good moment, it’s for sure a fast read but there was a lot of frustration while reading. Main couple can’t seem to find their right timing, when they start to go somewhere with their relationship her sister tells Sloan that she’s in love with Wesley and actually they had s€x and she lost her virginity to him, after that Sloan felt betrayed that he didn’t tell her that and also didn’t want to hurt her sister so she tells Wesley that they can’t be together. For 9 years! I hate when there’s a time skip this long, they had some interactions thru the years but there was always something. Wesley instead of drawing some boundaries and going after Sloan preferred to put energy into on and off”fake” relationship with different woman. Sloan finally decides she wants to be with Wesley after so much time and so they start their relationship. They lack communication,Wesley decided to go to his on and off situationship and tell her it was really over this time and he didn’t tell Sloan (she later sees article that he was with OW that day but doesn’t believe it and it’s not addressed later) even if it was to tell OW it’s final why didn’t he tell her about it. They have their happy moments till she saw her sister(the one that told her she’s in love with Wesley) leaving his apartment in the morning in his T-shirt and crying so she assumes there was something more to it and you can’t blame her for expecting the worst when there’s no communication and wasn’t informed that sister spent a night there (and the couch was sooo uncomfortable that the sister just couldn’t sleep on it so she went and slept in the same bed as Wesley who was really drunk). After that Sloan went to her sister to talk and surprise surprise she explains how it was all a misunderstanding and she just helped him because he was drunk and stayed the night. Turns out the sister tells her that she’s not really in love with Wesley as she thought(even though she told her that knowing that Sloan will stay away from Wesley) it was just teenage crush and for the past 8 years she just couldn’t say that apparently. Of course heroine forgives everything as it’s nothing. And it’s not like it’s all sister’s fault because where’s the communication in this relationship. What’s also unnecessary is all the s€x scenes, when Wesley finally finds her they don’t talk about the issue they have s€x. Biggest issue was heroine not knowing anything, still 3⭐️ it wasn’t that bad despite all the frustrating moments.

I wanted to love this more. I've heard great things about this series. I think it's more of a me thing that I didn't. I'm not a big fan of time jumps, and this story is littered with them. I've said numerous times that I am one of those people that actually enjoys the miscommunication trope, but I didn't enjoy it in this one. It took 8 years for the sister to do the right thing. It took years for them to all have a simple conversation. It wasn't even a good reason for two people that in love to be apart for that long. Teens or not...there were so many opportunities for the sister to put on her big girl panties and have a short conversation with Sloan. This isn't miscommunication to me. It makes it hard for me to truly like any of the main characters. If Sloan loved Wes that much she should have talked to her sister. If Wes loved Sloan as much as it seemed, then he should have talked to Sloan's sister. There are too many years to make that reason a good reason for them to stay apart. Their careers, living location, etc are all good reasons but also things that could have been discussed. The main issue is the sister and, to me, it's a poor reason to keep a couple apart for that long. Like I said - a me issue. The writing was good. The love is solid and when they do communicate, the communication is good. The steam is good and thoroughly enjoyable.
I am looking forward to continuing the series, and optimistic I'll enjoy the next one more - even with the time jumps I know it has. I am expecting that their reason for the long time in between will be for a better reason.
Please don't use my review as a reason to read or not read this book. It really is more of a "me" thing that I didn't enjoy it more. Long time jumps have always been a struggle for me. I'm unrealistically picky when it comes to the reason for things like that.
💙 There are no words to describe how much I love you. You’re my sun and moon, the brightest star in the sky on even the darkest of nights. You’re my everything, Thea. And now you're my forever.
🤍 Wes, I don’t need a ring for me to know what I’ve known for a long time. My soul is forever tethered to yours, ring or not. We are meant to be.
🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍
Holy smokes! I loved this book! I'm a sucker for second chance romances and this one was a rollercoaster. Sloan has loved Wes for most of her life. Wes has loved her since that summer where he looked at her as more than just his best friend's little sister. But victims of circumstance and timing their road to happily ever after is not easy.
College and long distance. A sister who has feelings & a history who asks you not to pursue yours even though her aren't reciprocated more timing and long distance issues, exes, misunderstandings and some drama. But finally they get it right. & their stars align. And when they get it right, when it all lines up, it's so damn good!
I love everything about Sloan. Even though I hated the fact that she sacrificed her feelings and happiness for her sister it's one of the things I admire most about her. Her loyalty.
Wes. I could swoon everytime he opens his mouth. The way he speaks to Sloan and cares for her. Loves her.
These two are seriously soulmates and they knew it early on. No matter time or distance or the things that stood against them they fought and made it through.
Loved this!!! But now I really need Eli & Quinn because I need them to get their HEA too! Please and Thanks!!
Friends to lovers Second chance Brothers best friend
Reckless Abandon is book one in the Reckless Hearts series. Let me just say, give me a man like Wes who knows exactly what he wants and doesn’t settle for less. It took years for Wes and Lo to finally figure things out and find their way back to one another. Always knowing that they were meant for each other but putting others first, as the years just passed by. I think we can all relate to bad timing in one way or another. Thankfully these two get their chance to make things right and fight for their love and future. I love a strong, independent, confident FMC and that’s Lo wrapping in a pretty burgundy mask. 😉😜 …IYKYK. Wes, he’s a keeper all right. This book has so much goodness; the backstory, the side characters, the pull, and the happy ending. Really enjoyed this book and looking forward to what comes next!
“This. Her. Here. Now. Us. Forever.”
"That sex is great in general, but when it's with the right person... the person... your person, it's... indescribable. Out of this world."
“I'm just so tired of fighting something that I know would make me so incredibly happy. Life and love aren't supposed to be like this. You aren't supposed to push away the person that was made for you."
“I see that brain of yours thinking in overdrive… don’t babe, just be in this moment with me now.”
“I gave you everything so long ago Wes… I don’t think I ever got it back. Now give me all of you… every last drop.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥

Hands down, easily 5 stars across the board. The writing, plot, characters and spice were amazing. Jess and Lauren are a writing duo that just gets better and better.
Reckless Abandon is about Sloan and Wesley’s story. Sloan’s brother Eli is best friends’ with Wesley King. All of them grew up with each other and along the way Sloan started having romantic feelings towards her brother’s best friend. Wes didn’t realize the girl he took care of and watch grow up became everything he wanted and more. However, time was not on their side.
I loved Wesley and Sloan individually and as a couple. Wesley! I love that man. He was perfect!! He loved his girl, he was supportive, honest, loyal and a hard worker. Sloan was so confident and knew what she wanted out of life. She was goal- oriented and had so many aspirations I just loved seeing her dreams play out. Her passion project was so different and unique and I loved how Wesley was very supportive of her new career endeavor. I loved the side characters too. All them were very interesting and had different personalities that I’m even more intrigued for their stories.
Quote: “Are you saying I was made for you, Sloan Barton”
Tropes: brother’s best friend, second chance, friends to lovers, childhood friends, right person wrong time
——————————————————
A brother’s best friend romance featuring Sloan and Wes. Wes and Sloan had a lot of obstacles in their way of getting their happily ever after. Between other people, time, and occasional lack of communication, these two missed years of potentially being together. Watching these two continually try to be together only for something to get in the way had me in a constant state of nerves. I’m glad that Sloan did some learning, and hopefully she won’t run immediately when something goes wrong in the future. Wes also had some growing to do and realized that being completely transparent is best even if something didn’t happen. That being said, I loved how confident Sloan was in herself. She was not afraid of her interests, and never backed down from pursuing her dreams. I will say that these two had some very sweet and cute moments, and I wouldn’t be mad at getting some extra scenes with them. Also, I’m going to need Quinn and Eli’s story ASAP.
Where do I even begin with this book...Within the first page there is spice and I was immediately hooked.
Reckless Abandon follows the story of Sloan and Wes, two people who have been friends their entire life....and always have wanted more but timing has never been on their side.
The way L.A. Shaw seamlessly goes between past and present creates such a deep understanding of their story. Every time you think they are going to get their shit together...something comes up.
You are constantly left thinking if this is the time they can finally make things work, but ultimately love hasn't been enough for them in the past.
The open dialogue surrounding sex positivity and women's confidence was amazing...plus I'm a sucker for a members only club 🙌
If you want spice, swoon worthy moments and some filthy words this story is for you!
Also the mention of the Miles High Club and T.L. Swan was 🤌
I'm already counting down the days until Blossoms Novella and hopefully Eli & Quinns story!!!
I happily received an ARC copy and loved this book so much! Brother's best friend, life long family friends, and misunderstood feelings complicate everything when Sloan and Wes finally realize the feelings they have for each other. Years of longing for each other and trying to live apart gives all the angst. Wes is amazing, he let's Sloan do what she feels is right no matter how much it hurts, yet his love for her never diminishes!
When you find yourself yelling out loud at the characters, you know you're invested! The side characters are also amazing and I can't wait for their stories to be told. However I am kinda mad at one of them still, because things could have been so different if they had spoken up so much sooner! (Insert eye roll here) I know, I know, I know that it was needed for the story, but this is how I know that a book has meant something to me.....when the characters are still making me feel something long after I finish reading their story! L.A. Shaw, you are amazing authors and I am a life long fan!
Reckless Impulse is the first book in the Reckless Hearts series. Each book is a stand alone with interconnectable characters that have a HEA. This duo author team is new to me and the writing is fantabulous! Such an emotional story full of heart and heat. Who doesn't love a brothers best friend trope?
Wesley King and Sloane Barton grew up together since their parents are best friends and her brother is Wes's best friend. They've always had a close bond and now as teenagers those feelings have begun to change into more.
Wes is pursuing modeling and Lo is a sweet, kind, old soul who draws people in. One summer spent together had them falling in love but having to sneak around behind her brothers back.
There timing was always off of being in the right place but wrong time for years. When a secret is exposed, Lo, chooses her sister and family and moves across the country.
Years later, Sloane, ends up in Wesley's bar and he's bound and determined that after 9 years without the love of his life things are going to start to go there way for once and he won't let her go without a fight.
For starters I had so many emotions reading this book! I enjoyed reading this a lot and really enjoyed reading about Lo and Wes 🥰🥰. I’m not always a huge fan of brothers best friend forbidden love and someone getting in the way of that love but I did enjoy this one. Wes can have my heart forever! Wes was such an amazing MMC. I have to adore him even more for waiting for Lo for so many years. Speaking of Lo she was the best female character I’ve read about in awhile! The way she is so in tune with herself and her body throughout the book just made me enjoy her even more. Her loyalty to her family should never be questioned. The amount of times she put her feelings to the side for her family was amazing. We get introduced to some amazing side characters and I cannot wait to read about the side characters Eli and Quinnie UGH this will be a story to die for!!
