After the wake of a terrible crime in her childhood, Harper Storm is determined to put whoever did it behind bars. After becoming a police officer in her small island town, she’s never given up hope that her best friend would one day return home. Then, a case mysteriously appears with the exact same pattern as the one Harper had been trying to solve her whole life: a young girl snatched by the Shadow Man.
Harper isn't a girl anymore. She’s a great detective, and she’s ready to take down the Shadow Man. With a team of talented detectives and cops behind her, Harper is certain she can face this monster. However, what she doesn't know is that the mystery is only beginning… And nothing is as it seems.
From the brief description of the first case to the more detailed description of the second case many years later, Detective Storm definitely has her work cut out for her. Is her colleague's anti depression medication a side screen? Why the long gap between victims? Had the perpetrator been in jail? All of these thoughts were flashing through my mind the closer I got to the end of the book. Detective Storm also has to balance her memory of her friend being the first victim and being able to conduct the case in a calm, clear and professional manner. The sub characters were also spot on. You can almost feel the atmosphere in an out of the way police station that now has a serial kidnapper and possible murderer on their hands. I loved every second of the story and had I been given it an honest personal review of 5*. I am so much looking forward to reading the next episode.

Harpers life since she was 13 has been driven by a event that happened. She and her best friend Beth had gone to play in the woods when a man took Beth. Harper was not able to save her. It was a Raining. It made her determined to try to find out where her friend is and who took her. Her focus was strong she graduated early became a cop then got advanced to detective. Now a case exactly like the abduction of Beth has happened. So similar. The girls brother gives information that adds to the cold case also. How can they save this child and find out what happened to Beth. Can’t wait to read the next part
Hidden Memories (Shadow Man Book 1), my first read from author B.P Stevens, was a 60-page-read that grabbed me and kept me reading until I finished it in less than an hour. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author and in particular Chasing Memories (Shadow Man Book 2), the next book in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
3 1/2 STARS Interesting first in a murder mystery/thriller series. A cold case may become hot again as a crime is committed that echoes another that occurred years before. Harper is an interesting protagonist who keeps her past involvement close to her chest. The novella has alot of information and creepy elements in its pages and the unexpected ending has you needing to follow ... NOW. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the tale.
This is the first book in this series of six episodes. Ends in cliffhanger. Two girls kidnapped many year a apart. Harper witnessed the first one at age 13. Now she is a police detective and is determined to find the kidnapper. She dubbed him The Shadow Man. It's realistic. It's heartwrenching. It's creepy. It's dangerous. It's a page turner. I need book 2. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Seven years ago, 13-year-old best friends Harper and Beth walk into the woods. Beth doesn't make it out. Because of this trauma, Harper becomes a police officer at 19 and at 20 becomes a detective after closing several cases. Now another 13-year-old girl has gone missing and the only witness is her young brother. Harper is bound and determined to catch the Shadow Man this time. This quick read is nerve-wracking, ending with a cliffhanger. Very highly recommended.
I really liked this book. All the characters were well defined! I loved Harpers determination and the fact she would do whatever it took to solve the mystery! The plot was well timed and original! I’m glad I have the whole series to read at once because I didn’t like the cliffhanger. I was glad i didn’t have to wait to read the second book in the series!
An excellent start to a series with lots of tension, some unusual twists and compelling characters. Police procedural but with a difference, an easy read in a single session. I will be looking out for the next one.
The past and present collide with ,set in a small town sets this apart ,the friendship and trust is needed to get to bottom of a horrible crime from the past and the present before more happens. Can this team get together and find the truth before it is to late
I it was a really good book. I’ve already ordered the next two. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the length of the book. It was just too short. I think the first and second book could’ve been combined to make a decent size novel.
Whenever I start a new series, I hope the sequels will hold up the storyline. This appears to be a great beginning with interesting characters and the ever popular cliffhanger. Well done.
Hidden Memories: A Police Mysteries series (Shadow Man Book1) By B. P. Stevens gives you all the chills of a nightmare and the cliffhanger to get you reading book 2! So good!
A well written start to what looks like an explosive series, great characters and a plot that has you on the edge of your seat. My first read from this author and definitely not my last. I feel you will want to add this book to your must read list. I received this arc for free and I wanted to leave an honest review.
Seven years ago Harper's best friend was taken by the Shadow Man. Now another young girl - 13 years old; red hair; freckles - has gone missing and it appears that the Shadow Man is once again involved.
This story has it all. The story line has twists and turns and leaves you wanting more. The cliff hanger ending guarantees to keep you coming back for more.
