Izzy Sage, a bruja with a dark past, is dreaming of a bright future with Braden Grimlock. There’s only one thing that stands in her way.
Banished to a different plane for centuries, the god Pan has managed to escape. He has one goal. He wants to take over the world, starting with Detroit. The only thing standing in his way is Izzy and her merry band of misfits and reapers.
Pan set his plan in motion years ago, and it turns out, Izzy plays into it. He can’t win without her. She has no intention of playing the game by his rules, however. Not only is she going to take him down, but she’s also going to put an end to the revenant army that’s been threatening Detroit for the better part of a year.
Izzy knows what she wants. She even knows how to get it. All that’s left is the fight. War is on the Grimlocks’ doorstep. The only question is who will win.
The end will make Izzy a legend… if she can survive long enough to see it through that is.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
exceptionally entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is an exceptionally entertaining turn normal cozy mystery series. A spectacular castor characters and an outstanding storyline. Hey Siri started out as a series about a family of Grimm reverse. Expanding into a wider universe and series about Grim Reaper’s and the mystical gates where they transferred souls to the other side. Along with the Grimlock family reapers in Detroit it expanded to include the gate at Bell Isle and the crew of Paranormal‘s who made the gate and ran the gate for the River Council of that area. Izzy Sage is the Director and boss of the gate on Belle Isle And there’s also the girlfriend of one of the Grimlock brothers. The entire Grimlxck clan and all the characters in this series are spectacular and entertaining to no end. Once again this crew of reapers intern normals must save the people around Detroit from evil and chaos taking over. Read on and follow this adventure and see where it leads next. One of my favorite series in this magical world.
This was an amazing book! It had, in my mind, a captivating story and the perfect ending to the series. I’m sad it’s over but I love Izzy and everyone else even more now as I journeyed with them throughout this captivating adventure against Pan.
So sad to see that this is the last book of the “Death Gate” series as the Grimlocks are by far my favourite characters, I just adore them all. This is such a fantastic ending where we get our happy endings but I desperately want to see the Grimlocks in future books. Amanda always writes such amazing lifelike characters and this crazy but loving family is one I wish I was a member of. In this book we also meet my second favourite character Zoe and her family who we have come to love over previous books, the way the separate storylines come together in this final book is a thing of beauty. Know Luna is getting her own series so really hope they’ll feature in some way there. So love this series and I’m sad it’s finished.
Wow, we finally get to the end game… and, well, it was a thing. The story was great. I flew through it. I was entertained, it had me in suspense to see what was in store for Izzy, and how her magic would play a part in the showdown, but honestly, things kinda fizzled in that regard. It was over very quickly, and I was left feeling a tad underwhelmed with the final confrontation. If you were expecting an epic battle a la Zoe battling the cult leader, than think again. So that brought this down from a high four stars to a four.
I still loved the heck out of this series, and I’m sure we’ll see more of the Grimlocks and Zoe in future books.
There’s romance, snark, cuteness, humor, but you expected that. I just sort of happy sigh and relax, knowing I get to read another one of Amanda’s wonderful books. There’s just so much in this book. The big fight we’ve been leading up to, I mean who wants to have to fight a god. Old friends coming to help, unexpected solutions, and just so many of my favorite characters. All I can really say is read this. You’ll be glad. Oh, and find out what Lily’s first word will be. No worries. No spoilers.
I understand that I day's story is done...but what about Luna? And Jacob, and baby Lily? I loved this book Amanda, but I need more. I need an epilogue that shows more of the next generation...before that, what happens with William and Maya? Does Redmond ever find someone? (Cause we know it isn't really Sammi). I know you have 1000 things on your writing g schedule, but we aren't done in Detroit yet.
There was nothing at all that I disliked about this book. The storyline was perfect , the characters were pitch perfect. I would recommend this book to everyone. If you haven't read the other 8 books you absolutely need to start at the beginning to see what led to this story. Best ever!
Only the Grim is an amazing ending to a truly fantastic series. Izzy and the Grimlock crew are full of laughs, snark, love, and of course danger. Being a Bruja in a reaper's world isn't always easy but its definitely worth it. If you haven't read the Death Gate series yet I highly recommend it!
I highly recommend this magical conclusion to The Grim family and friends. This book has all the spit fire, flashy highlights we've come to expect with this fascinating series in so many ways. No spoilers here, but it is a must read for fans of this jovial family.
Lots of action leading to the big showdown. Nice epilogue at the end giving closure to Izzy and Braden's story. Love the Grimlocks and will miss this storyline. I read all the series by this author. I find them a relaxing escape. This Is one of my favorite series. Sad to see it end but will revisit and continue with other series.
Well the end is finally here for.Izzy and Brandon.
Pan is in Detroit he has an army of revenants at his back and.is determined to capture Izzy --------- why, She doesn't know but she knows it can't be good--------- as you would expect Izzy has all the Grimlocks ready to support her whatever comes their way, also back for the final battle is Zoe,Eric and Sammi Lake Winters so along with Luna ------ the young witch from the cathedral-------- that makes four magical women to stand against a God. A lot of magic but will it be enough, there is a way for Izzy to gain more power but it's dangerous and unknown but if the situation gets too dire they may have no choice..................... Also.there's the groomzilla Jerry the possible end of the world as.we.know.it will not.he allowed to.integers with his wedding and he makes sure the whole family knows.it. ....... As with any of the books in this series there are a lot of.laugh out loud moments amidst the drama. The Grimlocks are an amazing family as are the Lake-Winters and I'm sure we have not seen the last of them, After all there is still one.single brother Redmond, the eldest Grimlock, and we also have Luna who is as mysterious as she is powerful. So till next time I'm hoping for some more short stories from the Grimlocks chikdhood.
OK, I have a terrible memory for some details, especially names, but I’ve been reading like 1.5 books in this series every day, day after day, so I’ve been going through them quickly and I remember plot details. It seemed to me that there were times in this, and in other series’ by Amanda Lee that she would say something that had already been said in a previous book and yet everyone acted surprised about it. Like they forgot, it was just talked about in the previous book. I thought that was kind of weird, but I thought maybe it was just me and I didn’t remember it correctly. This has come up about three times. In this book however, all of a sudden they’re talking about trying to translate this book and I swear the little pink-haired witch already removed to spell on it so that it was readable. But all of a sudden they’re still trying to figure it out. I think the writer writes a lot of books and loses track of some of the finer details. That doesn’t make the book any less, enjoyable, but this particular Issue was more annoying than other minor things. Anyway, big battle, who will come out alive?
Amanda M Lee really knows how to tell a story! I loved the Death Gate Grim Reapers books. This one was the best I think, but that is probably because I was reading this one. I think it with everyone of them. I won't do spoilers, I hate that kind of review. I will say the ending had me smiling with tears in my eyes. Mystery, some action, laughs, snark and some fun, also life and death situations-there are Reapers after all. This book has everything to give you a really good time.
.. nothing is guaranteed but its time to face the final battle and stop Pan once and for all.
The team are all together, Zoe, Sami, Luna, Bob and a surfeit of Grimlocks.. as usual Angelina is going to be arguing with Aisling and when she goes missing it's going to upset the apple cart more than Aisling wants to admit.
With rescuing Angelina they're going to have a chance to experiment and maybe just maybe it will all end in a happily ever after...
Really looking forward to Luna's tale.. which I hope comes soon.
I am so mad to reach the end of this book.... because there isn't a next one yet to read in the series! Amanda Lee's books are always so immersing that I hate to leave the characters at the end of the book. The characters are so well rounded that they feel like actual friends you have known for years and you can't wait to visit with them again. Settle down with a cup of tea and enjoy the ride!
Oh the very end!!! They really were happy tears running down my face. What didn’t this book have lol magic, magic and more magic, loads of action and drama as always when the Grimlocks are involved. As the last in this series before we move onto Luna this was a really well written final chapter, it closed off all the threads, left openings for Luna, and was just fantastic in every aspect.
Leave it to The Grimlocks to give us a snarky rap up. This was such an awesome series. I love all the books that revolve around this family. I hope we haven't heard the last of them. I'm sure the next series will revolve around Luna or Jacob. Either way I can't wait to see what happens with this family next. I loved Izzy, she brought the perfect mux to this crew.
This may be my favorite pairing. Izzy and the Grimlocks. Throw in some Zoe and family and you have the trifecta. A wild ride from beginning to end. My heart was pounding through the terrifying parts and the beautiful parts. There is so much love running through all these stories. The one thing that makes everyone stronger. I loved this book from start to finish.
This book was exceptional! Grimlock family is one of my favorites. It was hard to read because I didn't want something to happen to one of the main characters. I didn't want series to end but the way it ended tells me it has. I am hoping the Grimlocks will maybe show up in another series or crossovers. They make me laugh. I have enjoyed every book in the series. Thanks!
Such a great series, and this was definitely my favorite book.
However, I will say that I wanted to choke Jerry. His selfishness was just over the top. And no, that's not a spoiler. He's ALWAYS like that, it just happened he ratcheted it up to unbearable levels.
Definitely worth the read, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this universe.
What could have been a good read turned into 9 books of a whiny Izzy giving therapy to her to her boyfriends family. This author spews women’s rights but she throws Aislings character under the bus and sidelined her because she became a mother. This writer relies too much on what she considers witty banter and less on actual story. WARNING this book reads like paranormal Nancy Drew meets the deranged Walton’s..
I love when we get to see characters from former story lines, it is wonderful to see what is going on with them. Zoe plays a key part in this story, and even Sami. It is fun to check in with them, to see Sami growing up and growing strong! I really enjoyed this!
There are no words for this book but I will try. It was fantastic, hysterical, suspenseful, and heartfelt. I loved it. I have tears as I write this which I think may be a first for this series. I don't want to give anything away but my favorite characters of all time visited the Grimlocks mansion and a lot of others. This was a book that is the best in the series!
I just loved this book! So many of my favorite characters, the Grimlocks, the Winters, Luna and of course Izzy. All that was missing was the Winchester clan and well maybe a few more! Amanda you are an amazing writer and I am so happy that I found you! Although I will miss the Bruja I can’t wait for Lina’s story!
I enjoyed and read almost all of the authors series . this is one of my favorites . I love any crossover ones too how I started reading her other series. But Lizzy All the grimlocks The winter family Sammie my favorite Jerry Bob Luna are in this series .big final battle baby Lily finally says her first words .
The story line could not be better. This whole family and friends are amazing. Amanda M Lee is the best author. She can tell a story like no other. I hope this series continues forever. So many more lives to figure out. Redmond, Jacob, Luna, Sami, all the rest. So many stories yet to tell. Keep writing Amanda. You are wonderful!
Such a Great book and a great read! The Grimlocks have been one of my favorite series from the beginning, and I hope they continue to thrive in future books! I laugh and I cry and to me that makes the best books to read. They pull out all the stops like this one did! Ready to see where they go from here!
I absolutely love Amanda Lee. I have yet to be disappointed in one of her books. This series of the Death Gate had so many of my favorite characters. The way she weaves her characters past and present keep me happy and remind me of their stories. Reading her books is like catching up with an old friend.
