This is an unputdownable, smart, fast-paced, and highly entertaining YA mystery treasure hunt game with Goonies vibes! The characterization is impeccably amazing! Four teens whose paths cross to gather the pieces of riddles left behind by Iris Rosewood to follow the traces of a big mystery that leads them to the Rosewood inheritance. The money may change each of their lives, giving them enough funds to pay for their family debts and promising them a college education.

Lily Rosewood is the bold, impulsive leader of the team, who recently lost her father to suicide after he embezzled townies' savings. Her mother also left her behind, and the only family member she has left is her granny, Iris, who lets her live with her in Rosewood Manor. Although she wants to pursue her passion for the fashion industry abroad, Iris pushes her to learn the ropes of managing Rosewood Inc. by choosing to go to business school.

When Lily learns that her grandmother has approved her estranged cousin, Daisy, to go to Milan for fashion education, she becomes disappointed and accidentally falls on a birthday cake, becoming the laughing stock of the party. Her grandmother sends her to spend the night at her uncle's house, and the very next day, Lily realizes her grandmother is dead. After the will is read, she is kicked out of the manor, and this is not the only scandalous news about the will; their family inheritance is also lost.

When Lily is about to lose hope about her future, a letter written with invisible ink sent by her grandmother before she dies changes everything! The letter includes riddles that lead her to a treasure hunt to find the lost inheritance. But to find the money, she has to team up with three people, including her childhood friend Leo, whom she's estranged from after he chose her cousin Daisy over her. Leo is the frat boy of their team. Quinn is the one who has a beef with her cousin Daisy and is the chaotic, fervent, and risk-taker of their group. Caleb is the nerdish, smart guy who is the big brain of the group! All of them need money, are connected with Iris, and gather their unique skills to solve the mystery behind the lost inheritance. But when Daisy turns the inheritance game into a TikTok sensation, they realize they're not the only quartet following the traces. There are very dangerous people out there who want to steal the money from them. Lily realizes she cannot trust anybody, even the people close to her, as they might endanger her life.

Quinn and Caleb are my favorite characters. Lily is a great leader who tries to find her own path, and Leo was so sweet but needs to learn how to say no!

I loved this book and would be open to reading another treasure hunt game if the author brings back these awesome characters! I had an amazing time and a wonderful reading experience.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins Children's Books/HarperTeen for sharing this amazing book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Great combo of The Inheritance Games and The Westing Game with a sprinkling of The Goonies for good measure.

I totally devoured this book in less than a day. I'm always here for a good puzzle solving/game playing mystery to determine who gets an inheritance.

Lily Rosewood's grandmother runs the family's multi-billion dollar fashion brand Rosewood, Inc. Lily wants nothing more than to study fashion design and take over for her grandmother in the future. When her grandmother dies unexpectedly, the reading of the will reveals some surprising things. Lily, along with some friends and her cousin Daisy, are sent on a treasure hunt to end all treasure hunts, and although they think the end result is the fortune, they aren't completely sure.

This is a fun, fast paced debut filled with puzzles, suspense, and a tangled family drama. This doesn't end on a cliffhanger like The Inheritance Games, so I'm not sure if a sequel could be in the works. But I'd love another book from this author with similar theming even if we don't have the same characters. Or take the characters somewhere else and have them solve another puzzle mystery a la Truly, Devious. Whatever it is, count me in!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

**3.5-stars rounded up**

Lily Rosewood's family life is quite complicated, but billions of dollars will do that to you. Oodles of wealth is a tricky thing to navigate for most people.

I know it seems like it would make life grande, but ask any fictional character with an inheritance at stake, and they'll tell you that's far from the truth.

Lily dreams of one day running the family company, Rosewood, Inc. Her Gram, the current head of the company, has promised to teach Lily everything she'll need to know to successfully take over one day.

When Gram dies suddenly though, Lily's life is turned upside down. Gram wasn't just the head of the company, she was also the formidable figurehead of their family. It was so unexpected. Lily can hardly believe it's true.

Then Gram's Last Will and Testament is read, and Lily definitely can't believe that's true...

There's no mention of the vast family fortune; a purported quarter of a billion dollars. What? Like it's gone? The money is missing? How could that be?

As everyone is left scratching their heads, one last cryptic letter from Gram sends Lily, along with three other teens, on the treasure hunt of a lifetime. When news of Gram's missing fortune goes public though, outsiders join the hunt and they're not messing around.

Soon the teens are dodging dangers left and right, as they try to be the first ones to discover the hiding place of the vast Rosewood fortune. This could change their lives, or end them. Who will win the Rosewood Hunt?

I'll admit, it did take me a little time to commit to this one. The set-up is rapid fire. You really have no time to get to know Gram, you just learn through Lily's musings that she was this clever lady, who enjoyed puzzles, invisible ink and things like treasure hunts.

It sort of made me wish someone would have set her up with the elder Hawthorne from The Inheritance Games when they were both alive. It seems like they would've really hit it off, like plotting ways to send their basically disinherited loved ones on wild goose chases for cash...

About a quarter of the way in was when I really started to sit up and pay attention. Two other teens, Leo and Quinn, were also pulled into the hunt by Lily's Gram and I found the dynamic amongst the three teens very fun.

Lily's best friend, Miles, also becomes part of the action and I enjoyed him as well. Lily's cousin, Daisy, on the other hand was a total jerk, which I didn't really understand. Eventually the contention in their relationship was explained, but something about it didn't feel genuine to me.

Either way, I did vibe with the cast of characters overall and the way they worked together was entertaining. They weren't really friends going into this, so it gave it a bit of an unlikely allies feel, which I enjoyed.

It gets pretty wild. Once the outsiders swarm into town hunting the treasure the danger level amps up considerably. There are break-ins, car chases, it's a lot. Lily definitely fears for her life, and I did too!

Through all of it, the teens start showing each other more of their true selves and they really start to bond. I think that was my favorite aspect of the whole story, the Found Family element that Reed ultimately creates. Lily feeling like she finally had friends, it filled my heart.

Most of these characters, their families were pretty crappy, so having each other to rely on meant a lot to them.

The pace hits warp speed towards the end, as a ton of new information is revealed. I enjoyed the way it wrapped up. Overall, a satisfying inheritance story. The Rosewood Hunt was a game I won't soon forget. That's for sure.

While it may not go down in history as one of my favorite YA books, it was still hella entertaining, and I would definitely be interested in reading more from Mackenzie Reed.

Thank you to the publisher, Harper Teen, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I'm so happy I finally made the time for this one. It was worth it!

You ever just… forget to review your own book?

The Rosewood Hunt has been out for six months now (WHAT!) so I figured now is as good a time as any to say thank you. I don’t come on this site often since it’s for readers, not authors, but I’m so grateful to every single person who has read The Rosewood Hunt and taken the time to review. I appreciate you endlessly and am so grateful you took a chance on this newbie author.

Six months later, I still love this story so much. I love the sarcastic crew of characters, I love the mystery, I love the romance, and I love Rosetown. I hope as time continues to go on, this book about found family and greed and grief continues to find readers all over the world and wiggle its way into people’s hearts❤️🥀

And I’m excited to share that I have another thrilling YA mystery coming out in 2025 — THE WILDE TRIALS!! Stay tuned for that!🍀

𝟒🌟!!! I went into this book blind, with zero expectations—and I’m so glad I did, because it completely surprised me in the best way. From the very first page, I was hooked by the intriguing plot and the fun, adventurous tone. This book gave me major The Inheritance Games book vibes (which I absolutely love), so if you're a fan of that series, I’d definitely recommend checking this out. The riddles, the mystery, the twists—they were all so well done and kept me guessing.

The writing style is simple and accessible, making it an easy and enjoyable read without sacrificing the suspense or emotional impact. The pacing was spot on, and the riddles scattered throughout the story were clever and added an extra layer of excitement to the plot.

What truly stood out to me were the characters. Each one brought something special to the group: Leo’s humor, Lily’s sass, Caleb’s sweet nature, and Quinn’s sarcasm created such a dynamic and lovable found family. Their chemistry as a team was fantastic and made their journey all the more engaging. I found myself laughing at their banter and also getting choked up during the more heartfelt moments.

The story is packed with twists and emotional beats that kept me fully immersed—I genuinely couldn’t put it down. It was the perfect blend of mystery, humor, and heart. Overall,I had a blast reading it and would definitely recommend it.

ೃ⁀➷ 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝: Decided to ditch my current read and read this book since I’m not in the mood for fantasy. I’m going into this blind and I hope I enjoy this one!!😭💖

This book has intriguing plot idea and exciting start but lacks inaction packed excitement. If you are looking for a quick, dramatic story though, then read it, just expect more drama than suspense.

I was expecting a slightly lesser version of The Inheritance Games and that's exactly what I got, which is a good thing!!

First of all, NOTHING can top The Inheritance Games in the "scavenger hunt, teens looking for clues, mystery" genre. So being worse than it is actually predictable.

Second of all, the book was GOOD. It's got some solid puzzles, the pace is fast, and the writing is light. Reading it was pure fun. It's also not that long and you've got lots of interesting characters.

The main "issue" I got with it is actually understandable because it's a standalone and a short one at that - it's characters aren't that deep or layered, and because of that they aren't memorable. If I mentioned Grayson or Jameson, you'd immediately know who they are. Leo and Lily on the other hand...Let's just say that I couldn't remember their names (I finished the book 2 days ago) and had to google it 😂

It's not that big of a deal, not every book has to be spectacular. I enjoyed it immensely and would recommend for anyone looking for a fun, quick read that's part heist, part clue solving. 🔎

2023 cannot come soon enough for y'all to get your hands on this debut! This was such a fun read with a treasure hunt through a small town for a missing inheritance at its core, complete with riddles and puzzles. The pacing is tight with plenty of suspenseful scenes while also plucking at the reader's heartstrings in those quieter moments. The characters practically jump off the page with how much heart they have, and I couldn't put this book down thanks to them!

This was a quick and mysterious read!
This story and its characters reminded me a lot of the Hawthornes from the Inheritance Games, with some minor differences. While this novel focused on friendships and found family, the whole treasure hunt/mystery concocted by a deceased family member, was basically the same.

While the story was not very believable in the slightest and it was a bit over the top sometimes, I still found myself enjoying this. The bad guy was also very obvious, but it was well thought out overall.

This was a super fun and entertaining treasure hunt story. It's filled with lots of angsty teen drama and a touch of romance. I'm always drawn to a book featuring found family especially in a coming of age drama, and The Rosewood Hunt didn't disappoint. I loved the strong female characters, and the twists and turns throughout were stupendous.

I truly enjoyed this wonderful debut and can't wait for more to come from this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Excellent fun!

Lily Rosewood lives with her grandmother in the large mansion on the hill. Her grandmother, is a millionaire (!) due to her coat dynasty and is happy to have Lily live with her after the death of her father. Lily is super close to her grandmother and is completely shocked when following her death she is cut off from the mansion and unsure of her financial future.

But Gram and Lily played tons of games with invisible ink and riddles. So Lily isn't surprised to receive a note that sends her on a chase around the town looking for clues that Gran left her. Along the way she is forced to work with her cousin.and some friends that she parted ways. Can she find a way to work with them? What happened to her beloved Gran? Will she earn some of the inheritance that she badly needs to college?

Read this super fun novel and have a blast!

The treasure hunt books are becoming popular since knives out and inheritance games but this one is particularly poor as the old lady was giving away her fortune to random kinds she spoke with once and hope they’ll be good friends to her grand daughter. It’s a bit of a stretch. Especially when Lily mentioned the found family it’s more than money but in fact it’s the money that brought them all together in the first place and they have no need to stick together afterwards in real life since their personalities are randomly pulled out from the mix bag.

Super disappointed in this one. I was looking forward to reading it. When they said “like” The Inheritance Games, I was not expecting it to be damn near the same book. It feels like a cheap knockoff. (I even took a star off my normal lowest rating for this reason.) Insufferable main character, not nearly enough clues, unsatisfying resolution. Way more drama than mystery. (Normally I like the drama, but here I was expecting mystery.) I’d bet some students might like it for the fashion angle, but I’m not here for it.

i actually liked this a lot more than i was expecting to. was similar to inheritance games, but still well written. characters were predictable but that leo plot twist was unexpected. i really liked the relationship between daisy and lily i thought that was well written but the level of psychological manipulation going on from like 75% of the characters was insane. overall pretty good

Omg I did not like this book. It’s like The Inheritance Games but with way dumber “riddles.” I also don’t like books about fashion so that’s on me, but ugh. Everything in this book was so easy to the point of not even being believable. And holy moly that narrator for the audiobook was THE SLOWEST reader ever. I finished it. Do not recommend.

„Polowanie na fortunę Roosewod’ów.”
Jest to książka , która od pierwszych stron wydaje się interesująca . Sam w sobie tytuł i okładka przyciąga czytelnika . Zwłaszcza wtedy , kiedy babcia zostawia jej ostatni list z zagadkami i wskazówkami do odnalezienia skarbu.
.Mimo to lekturę czyta się dosłownie jednym tchem , a ciągła akcja trzymająca nas w napięciu i nieoczekiwane plot twisty dają nam niesamowitą dawkę silnych emocji i wrażeń .

“I wish I could stay in this moment forever, bottle it up like my favorite perfume and spritz it in the air whenever I need to remember this feeling of being part of something bigger than myself. A family. A real, loving family that does things not for money or accolades. But just because.”

After Lily’s gram passes, she is left with an item that potentially points toward an inheritance, inevitably setting her on a crazy adventure. Including riddles and clues, teaming up with old and new acquaintances, and the possibility of a huge inheritance.

𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 & 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴
The dynamic between these characters as they are all pulled into this mystery of trying to find the hidden inheritance was so entertaining. They’re all so different, so their personalities blended well and made for a good story.

The adventures they went on while trying to get this inheritance were so funny, including hijacking a museum’s system, having a group sleepover in their van, and attending a masquerade ball.

This story had many great components: comedy, romance, mystery/suspense, drama, and a twist I was not anticipating. Super fun and quick, YA mystery.
