Bhoodevi, the earth, was being ravaged by evil asuras. She turned to the gods for aid but even the powerful trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, were helpless. Concerned by the events, their consorts, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati combined their powers and created Vaishnavi, a woman of unsurpassed strength. Vaishnavi fought and destroyed the asuras but the goddesses asked her to stay on and not return to heaven. Though Vaishnavi did not realize it, her story was only just beginning. Amar Chitra Katha tells the story of Vaishnavi's transformation into the meditating goddess, Vaishno Devi, whose abode in the Himalayas is visited by millions of pilgrims every year.
I've been on the pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi twice. But only after reading this ACK have I understood the significance of the journey and the various shrines on route. May the Goddess give me one more opportunity to make the journey and now down at her holy shrine.
I am just on a binge read today I just end up reading these stories one after the other. The best part about this story is that in the end it also talks about the real Temple it's location and journey
interesting read. Very beautiful narration and illustration. Highly recommended. Great collection. interesting read. Very beautiful narration and illustration. Highly recommended. Great collection.
Have heard of this famous temple and was eager to learn its story and this comic book satiated that desire. It's an easy read and people of all ages will enjoy.
The story revolves around Vaishno Devi, a celebrated goddess in India. Initially, I thought she would be an avatar of goddess Parvati as she takes many forms, both pleasant and tranquil according to the need. I felt that the evil man who wanted to marry the Devi against her will really deserved to get beheaded by her who was in the form of Goddess Kali. I was surprised when I got to know that Rama could change his form at will because he did not always have the power to do so. The part where Vaishno Devi and Rama get married was quite shocking as I never thought Rama would have two wives. Overall, this was an excellent book.
For most people, this might be a lesser known story. Nice to have read it. But of course, this would be a super simplified version but good read nevertheless.
Loved it very very much. When she meditates and ask for Rama to marry her, he rightfully refuses which I liked. In few other stories like Tirupati he goes on marrying other even while already being married and without even informing his wife.
Not just that, as the story proceeds a tantric Bhairavnath approaches her and even when she rejects him she pursues him. While this seems believable, I felt very bad for the damage to the reputation of all tantric upasakas this one tantric would bring.
Thankfully this website gave more clarity on the intent behind the tantric and what the killing of tantric symbolises
p.s: Thankfully Vaishnavo Devi had tapsya to save herself. May we also be strong enough, grace and love alone is not enough, but I wish life doesnt go through a path where one's valour is tested. Maybe we live life with ease.

I liked the art and the narrative. Storytelling as well as line art comes from a seosoned artist. Overall I enjoyed the read. One star less since colouring was not upto the mark nor even the lettering. I'm going to pick up more of these.
As always, Amar Chitra Katha does not disappoint the reader. It was very short format as with other ACK books with packed information which makes it easy to read and enjoy
Vaishnodevi is one of the most revered and loved spiritual sites of India and getting a glimpse into its origins was interesting. The artwork as always is clear and the text simple and engaging.
Not much to say. Pretty straight forward. Some more content would have been helpful. One time read for anyone wanting to understand about the basics of vaishnodevi pilgrimage.
