Enzo was the real star of Imperfect Love. He came in and just stole the whole damn book. The way he constantly affirmed, spoke life, and confidence into Dior gave me all the feels. Her insecurities about her skin didn’t deter him one bit. He made sure Dior saw herself as nothing less than beautiful while also helping her get past her trust issues. Dior’s daddy was trash but, I was glad he finally gave her the answers she’d been looking for. That damn Sawyer had me tight throughout this entire book! He was channeling Truth from Love’s Truth because, his willful ignorance was on ten! I understand wanting to get along with the mother of your child and having a comfortable co-parenting relationship but, Sawyer and Marshay took that shyt too damn far. The way they were playin’ in Dakota’s face had me ready to pull up and swang on both of them. She was already dealing with insecurities and trust issues from a previous relationship and Sawyer and Marshay’s inappropriate closeness didn’t help at all. It was absolutely infuriating how he kept dismissing Dakota’s feelings and trying to gaslight her into thinking she wasn’t seeing what was happening right in front of her. Oh, but when Dallas entered the chat, it was a problem. Suddenly, Sawyer can see the error of his ways. Insert eyeroll here. 🙄🙄🙄 Typical! Imperfect Love was the perfect imperfect love story. It was a sweet but, slightly emotional romance with a touch of urban thrown in. Each of these characters had challenges they had to overcome before they could get to their HEA. While the love journey was bumpy at times, it was worth the ride.

I Enjoyed This Story

I Enjoyed Getting to know these cousins and brothers. The two couples really made for a really cute story. I loved that each couple had separate issues that required work and the couples were committed to working and resolving their issues to get to their HEA.

Imperfect Love is a coming-of-age story of sorts. Tay Mo'nae gives us four new main characters and all of them appear to be broken in some form or fashion. Dior and Dakota are cousins, by way of their dads. When Dior turns nineteen, she goes to live with Dakota. She's in an awkward space in her life and her big cousin is there to help her figure things out. Then there's Enzo and Sawyer. They're brothers with the same parents. Enzo has recently been released from prison and Sawyer believes that things would have gone differently if he would've protected his brother better. These characters have a lot to figure out individually and collectively and it was very interesting to watch them figure things out.

Dior had a troubled childhood, losing her mom at the age of fourteen and having to live with her dad that never truly was a dad, put her in a virtual shell. The scars left were literally and figuratively. Going to live with Dakota was supposed to be the start of new beginnings, but like the saying goes, old habits die hard. Dior has a hard time getting out of her own way and even with the help and encouragement of Dakota, it's really hard for her. "When I invited you to stay, it was more than me just wanting my cousin to stay with me. I wanted you to find yourself and grow as a person. I was tired of the bullshit you were dealing with and wanted to help you escape it." Until she meets Enzo. Enzo is a guy that's just trying to leave his past behind him. Being snitched on by one of his friends has left a bad taste in his mouth, and rightfully so since he spent his last few years in prison because of it. He's become guarded in every sense of the word, that is until he runs into Dior... literally. A simple run-in, an instant attraction, and the healing power of love is the perfect recipe for their imperfect love story. "It's obvious you've never been loved properly, but I want to fix that."

Dakota and Sawyer were the secondary couple in this story, but their toxicity stole the show. Their merry-go-round of a relationship amped this love story up. Dakota's past has caused her to have trust issues and Sawyer's relationship with his baby mother, Marshay, doesn't help with that. Sawyer calls their relationship good co-parenting. With them being in each other's lives since grade school, they have no choice but to be friends. But after a drunken slip-up in the infancy stages of he and Dakota's relationship, she's calling bullshit. "I couldn't help the jealousy I felt, however. The two of them had a bond that I knew I couldn't break, and that hurt." Sawyer doesn't realize the angst he's causing Dakota until the shoe is on the other foot. "Sawyer stopped kissing me, and my eyes popped open. 'When you get a nigga best friend?'" When he's forced to endure half of the stuff Dakota has, he's forced to make some really tough decisions or be forced to lose his girl. "Look, I'll never tell another grown man how to handle his shit, but if you want to keep Dakota and you're serious about her, set boundaries and stick with them when it comes to Marshay."

The title of this story was so fitting. All four characters had the perfect imperfect love story. When I finished this story, I felt as if I needed therapy. The author touched on physical insecurities along with trust issues, daddy issues, infidelities, and I'm sure some underlying issues I may have missed. But she also had great family dynamics and familial love. As always, the characters were layered, and I appreciated that. From Enzo's occupation to Dior's scarring, I loved the uniqueness of these characters. The story also had an urban undertone, elevating this story from romance to urban romance. I ain't gon cap, Sawyer and Marshay had me tight the entire read. They was playing in Dakota's face and I ain't like that. But even though those characters vexed me, it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the read. Tay has executed another 5-star read and I love that for her.

Overall I really enjoyed the story on these two couples! I don’t feel like the writing was as captivating and intense as previous reads from Tay! Compared to her other books, it’s seems like she was holding back. She’s had some powerful reads with bomb storylines that really kept me on the edge of my seat and this was a mild version of those. With that said I did enjoy the book.

Enzo was everything…..EVERYTHING!!!! Newly released from prison and getting his life back on track he had a good head on his shoulder. He was a protector, provider and leader in every sense of the words. Him and Dior met at a time when she was very vulnerable and insecure due to the lack of love experience from her father and scars left from a fire she was in as an early teen. He really loved, nurtured and spoke life into Dior and was a real gem. He provided her with an easy pain free love. No crazy ex’s, no cheating ways, no bitter baby mamas…. Just a real love that she deserved….that they both deserved! I’m thankful that he was able to help Dior realize her worth. Their love was refreshing!

Then you had his brother Sawyer and Dior’s cousin Dakota! Whew these two were spicy. Kota was dealing with insecurities based off previous failed relationships and dealing with Sawyers baby mama didn’t help. Marshay was a piece of work with her sneaky self! She and Sawyer definitely needed boundaries in their co parenting relationship and I’m surprised Dakota didn’t knock her out. Little Harper was full of personality and I loved what she added to the story.

Great read overall if you’re not comparing it to previous bodies of work which is kinda hard not to do.

Imperfectly perfect

I adored this story about brothers meeting and falling for cousins. I loved, loved, loved Enzo. He was the perfect bad-boy, good guy for this story. Enzo was quiet with unassuming handsomeness on lockdown. His eyes were next-level beautiful. When he met Dior, I felt their vibe, and I wasn't surprised how things turned out for them. Dior's cousin Dakota was it. She was not about playing second fiddle to Sawyers's bitter baby's momma. I wanted to have a conversation with Sawyer about the way he allowed his ex... Marshay, or Marshmallow, to speak crazy to his girl. It took a while for the couples to blend, which was a good thing. The ending was too quick, but oh well. 4.75 Stars.

Enzo is a STAR ⭐️

Overall, this is a sweet romance. It’s an emotional read but nothing too edgy or heavy which is perfect. The characters and development, the writing, the pacing, the plot, were all really good. It’s not super long either so you can knock this out pretty quickly especially because you won’t want to put it down. I’m going to review my thoughts on the characters….

My favorite character was Enzo…that’s a Black King. I loved how he was the voice of reason throughout the whole story for Dior and his brother. The way he loved Dior was top tier. Most of the quotes I highlighted are of Enzo speaking. Every time he told her he was proud of her or spoke life into her, it warmed my heart. I honestly could’ve read like 3 more chapter just about him ❤️

Dior, baby girl, I felt her pain. Dior is me and I am she 😂 Love is scary and that’s real. I wanted nothing but the best for her, and I did love to see her journey and how it was real and she got to have ups and downs. As a reader, I appreciate that because in real life, love don’t come easy when you been through stuff.

Kota, I love how she took no mess. She was classy but firm and knew what she wanted and always spoke up.

Sawyer, I’m mad at you lol, but glad you came to your senses because I wanted to fight. But we love to see the character development 👏🏾👏🏾

This was too long for no reason lol but go read this…it was a good time 😁😁

Beautiful love story of Enzo & Dior

Great title for this story that looks at the coupling of Sawyer & Dakota and Enzo & Dior. The beauty was watching how Enzo introduced Dior to love. Dior's story was heartbreaking and Enzo breathed both love and life into Dior. Watching Dior blossoming speaks well of the author's ability to develop her character that felt authentic and most importantly empowering. I also felt for Dakota and I struggled initially on believing in Sawyer's authenticity in loving Dakota when he was too familiar with his baby mama under the guise of co-parenting. His ex Marshay was messy with her slick comments and walking down memory lane. The author delivered in giving us two stories in one. My favorite was Enzo and Dior and Enzo is definitely bae.

I love Tay MoNae story when she writes about multiple couples! First couple Enzo and Dior were ther easy going love and really made me swoon! Love me flaws and all is the best way to describe them! Second couple Sawyer and Dakota were the drama lol. I liked Dakota because she stood her ground and Tay really wrote the hell out of Sawyer cause I hated him until 85%. Now the twist at the I felt sympathy for Sawyer cause no one deserves that but he needed a shake up because he was playing in Dakota face and I didn’t like that! Now Dakota’s friend Dallas who’s in the Air Force… I would like to know about him! Overall this was a fun ride and I would recommend!

This story touches on so many real topics.

With Dior and Enzo it's a story of self love and healing from within, especially when you're scares and trauma are present. I loved how Enzo was so sure of himself and did the own work within to get to where he is. And because he did that self work, he was able to help Dior and build a love built on strength and trust. I loved how he handled Dior because in the beginning she was so fragile and inexperienced but overtime we saw her build herself up. Even though Dakota tried to encourage her, I think maybe Enzo had the better choice of words lol. Also, it was heartbreaking about Dior's relationship with her father. I know she didn't necessarily get what she needed, she got enough to move on.

With Dakota and Sawyer, it was definitely was more chaotic, but I think it's because they are both fiery people. Dakota is a good one because I don't know how long I would have been able to put up with that baby mama drama. But I'm glad that Dakota pointed out that Sawyer would never have a real relationship if he continued to have that kind of connection with Marshay, and we could also see that Shay wasn't trying to let him go either. I'm glad that he started to pick up on the signs and finally started to create those boundaries. The only thing I didn't like is that at the end he was still not completely cool with him mom. I honestly thought she did the right thing, if the child wasn't his that's a different story, by why rock the boat with that kind of information when him and Shay aren't even together. She was just trying to protect her child from unnecessary hurt.

Another one!

I really enjoyed this book. Enzo was giving me all the feels when he constantly spoke life, love and confidence into Dior. She went through a very traumatic event when she was younger and it truly hindered her from living her best life. But once Enzo found out he was there, reminding her that she was beautiful. Ugh, I loved his character. Although he was going through his own issues, he was all about Dior and their chemistry was cute. On the other hand his brother, Sawyer was slowly driving me crazy to the point where I had to put the book down and just breathe. It was infuriating how he was playing the fence with his baby mama who shall remain nameless 🙄 & Dakota. I felt like Dakota deserved better and throughout the book I was praying hard that my good sis would walk away and leave Sawyer where she found him… With his baby mama! Chile was low-key with her shenanigans but everybody peeped them but Sawyer.

Overall, this book was good. I would actually like to read more about Dior & Enzo. I’m going to continue to read more of the author’s work. I got a lot ahead of me lol.

Loved It

Inperfect love will have you in tears and laughing as well. How do you receive love when you weren't taught what love is? Enjoyed this storyline from start to finish, you will find love, self love, family dynamics pain physical and mentally. This book will allow you to self reflect on your upbringing and how things may have affected you as a child. I love the brothers Sawyer & Enzo, they were brought up in a loving home and learn to treat their women with respect, though Sawyer had some challenges due to a tricky relationship with his baby mama, but boy did his mama shed some light on that situation. Enzo was just what Dior needed in her life, he was that dude, he spoke life into Dior every chance he was given, once she allowed him into her life.

Dior and Dakota were cousins, but Dakota treated Dior like a little sister and she held her in high regard and poured love into Dior as well. Dakota & Sawyer were meant to be together! Dakota was a strong independent woman and she was just what Sawyer needed in his life.

I look forward to reading more about these young couples.

Dior and Dakota are cousins and new roommates. Dior is recovering from a tragic past and scars she can't seem to move on from. Dakota is carrying a bruised heart that's scared to trust. In comes Sawyer and Enzo, brothers who have set their hearts on these two young women. But will they get them to let their guards down?

Enzo and Dior were so very sweet. Dior's innocence shined through, even though she'd been through so much and Enzo's protectiveness and affirmation were everything. I loved the way he was there to speak life and love into her, and pick her up when she fell. It's always heart melting when the girls don't let the fear get the best of them, and Dior didn't.

Sawyer and Dakota were a bit more dramatic and their story balanced things really nicely. The idea of co-parenting and the comfort of familiarity clouded Sawyer's mind and I thought he'd never get it together. But he did. And Dakota stood her ground until he did. I loved that about her.

Great story. I was fully engaged from the first page. Loved it.

Love Is Understanding!!

Marshay bought this all on herself, now their conversations will only be about Harper. That's why she was so worried about Sawyer and Dakota having a baby. She didn't want Sawyer to forget about her, he's always going to take care their daughter. She built up this fairytale about them being back together. Dallas opened his eyes to what Dakota was talking about. He shook his foundation. Sawyer got to forgive his parents in his own time. I happy Dior is learning how to love herself with Enzo by her side. It took a lot for Dior to tell her story. I'm glad Enzo is loving Dior flaws in all. I guess Enzo felt free when he stomped Trell out. By Dior calling her dad and asking him that question, she already had the answer too she had to hear him say it. She got her closure.

Good read‼️

This was good it wasn’t what I was expecting but still a very good read. I loved Enzo he had a way with words and he spoke so much life into Dior. He even got Sawyer to see what Dakota couldn’t get him to see when it came to Marshay. Marshay was being messy any chance she got and clearly a lil sneaky lil bih hid a whole DNA test from Sawyer.

I loved Dior and Dakota’s bond. Dior’s dad was a P.O.S like how could you not love the human you had a hand in creating if he knew he didn’t want any kids he should’ve took the necessary precautions to not make one and then treat her like he did. So glad she met Enzo the way he loved her was everything.

I love happy endings and everybody got theirs in the end and that made me happy!!

Imperfect Love..

I enjoyed this read from author Tay Mo'Nae. Dior is such a sweet and innocent character. I'm glad that she encountered a man like Enzo shortly after moving with Dakota. He was truly everything she needed. Now Sawyer..Sawyer had me screaming through the screen because I couldn't understand how he didn't see how sneaky Marshay was. He kept chalking her behavior up to their "history" but couldn't see how much Dakota was hurting in the process. I did like that he made it plain that Dakota was who he wanted but he took forever to get it right. Overall, I enjoyed this read. 5 stars.

young love

This was a good read to be young cousins Dakota and Dior been through some stuff but they both found partners In brothers Sawyer and Enzo now I didn’t blame Kota one bit when she told sawyer to creat boundaries with Marshay because she thought she was going get sawyer back but Enzo poured so much love into Dior that she had no choice but to love herself…now her dad was cold but some men really don’t want children and some women think having them will make them change as Diors mom did but I think when he told his truth to her question he could have some type of emotion…..would love to read about these couples again

Good storyline!

This well written, love story was easy to read and follow. I loved the way that Enzo made a promising life for himself after getting out of jail. Dior had a traumatic childhood and didn’t know about being love until she met Enzo. He spoke life into her, helped build up her confidence and showed her how to love herself and him. They made an awesome couple. Her cousin, Dakota, was in love with Enzo’s brother, Sawyer. Their relationship was rocky until his baby mama was given boundaries, but Dakota should have tapped her at least once before then. I’m glad that both couples got their happily ever after endings.

Dior/Enzo and Sawyer/Dakota

I love this book! I glad Dior was able to overcome all her insecurities about herself and Enzo able to get answer about his so called friend betrayal. Dior and Enzo was able to find love through the process healing and love. Sawyer had to be in the other side of situation to see what Dakota was saying about his baby mother Marshay. I glad he was able to see the bs before it was too late. I disliked that Sawyer had to found out from his parents that Marshay had another man tested for paternity of Harper's father. I glad the test ruled in his favorite because the story could have been a messed up ending.

Understanding is the key.

I loved this book. Enzo just did it for me! Everything about him just drew me in. I loved that this book showed black men coming from a good, loving home versus showing them broken and lost. That stuck out to me. I loved the relationship Kota and Dior had as well. Part of me was hoping that Dior’s father came around but I appreciated his truth. The fact that Sawyer and Enzo did the work that needed to be done to understand their women spoke volumes. It took sawyer a little longer but he got there. Enzo patience is one of a kind. I’ll definitely continue to read work from this author.

Great Read

Enzo and Dior meeting was fate. It's like they fell for one another instantly. He made her feel something she'd never felt from anyone other than Dakota. He broke her insecurities and loved her past her pain. Sawyer and Dakota went through some things because he wouldn't properly put Marshay in place. It took him becoming jealous of her male friend to understand what he'd been putting her through. Each couple became closer and learned to express their love freely. Sawyer had some forgiveness to work on with his parents, but he would get through it. Awesome read!

Enzo is Bae❤

This was such a great story. The way Enzo spoke life into Dior was something else! I adored how he was to her. Dior was so broken, and she couldn't see past her pain and do called flaws. She deserved every ounce of love she received from Enzo! Dakota was a strong woman because Marshay got away with a lot of stuff. Sawyer irritated me so much when he continuously disregarded whatever she said or did concerning his relationship with Dakota. I'm glad he raised his mistakes before he lost her.

Young Love

This was a nice story of young adults finding love and navigating those relationships. I thought Enzo and Dior’s relationship was cute and I loved how he spoke life into her. She really needed that, especially with the situation with her parents and what she went through as a child. However, I did find myself a little more invested in Sawyer and Dakota. They were rather entertaining. Overall, this was a great read!

Tay knows how to have me in my feeling at 6am! Imperfect love and all the perfect words created to weave these two love stories had me sniffing all up and through this book. The way Enzo spoke life into Dior just tugged at feelings . Tay knows her way around crafting such honest and believable characters. Another hit out the park for Tay Mo’Nae- it’s official, I’m a fan.

I couldn’t put this book down! Dior deserves everything great that comes to her and that includes Enzo. I absolutely loved how he spoke love and confidence into her. Their relationship is so beautiful! Now, Dakota and Sawyer…..I’m so happy Sawyer was finally able to see where Dakota was coming from because my girl Marshay was running over them invisible boundary lines LOL. I lowkey want to know what will happen next for everyone in this book

Loved this book. There were a lot of insecurities to be healed from. I love how Sawyer proved to be the man Dakota to fully trust and move past the baby mama drama. I really loved Enzo and Dior. Enzo made Dior realize how truly beautiful she was and look past her scars that she was ashamed of.

All Love isn't perfect

Dior got the answers she needed from her father. Even though I wished he would of tried to get to know his daughter. Marshay was a trip knowing she had a secret she was hiding. Finally Sawyer had those blinders removed from his eyes. Kota is a good one. Enzo that is BAE all day
