Monsters in Moonlight #2

Bound To The Dark

Rate this book
A desperate sister. A ravenous monster. A deal that could consume them both.

As a psychic, my intuition lead me into the dark, where I met a monster. In the supernatural underworld, this being is considered unnatural—the result of magic gone wrong. He’s unhinged and vicious, delighting in carnage, thriving in the absence of light, and his existence is sustained by flesh and blood. Death follows in his wake for he wields an ironclad control over the darkness.

And I struck a bargain with him to use my body as a daylight vessel so he could complete his quest.

Of course, I do get something out of it! He told me the evil we hunt might have my sister. I believed him. Together, we scour the supernatural underworld of New Orleans, looking for all the lost magical girls. As time progresses, and we moved in on the targets, things get…complicated. In the heart of the darkness, I find a protector, a friend, a lover.

I invite the monster to come out and play. His insatiable desire for my flesh, once unleashed, can’t be tamed. Now…I just hope I don’t come to regret it.

Because the only question that remains is: can I trust a monster?

A blazing, gothic tale, this stand-alone monster romance raises the question: who rules the shadows?
If you like tragic, angsty heroes, smart, strong, and sassy leading-ladies, and an enemies-to-loves romance, then grab a copy and dive into the dark with Bound To The Dark today!

**This paranormal monster romance is chronologically second in the Monsters In Moonlight series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

Received an ARC to review.
This is only my second read by this author.
I have not read book 1 in this world, I do not feel like I walked in on a private joke. This is definitely a stand alone but it is clear what the outcome of book 1 was and what 3 will be about. And, no cliffhanger.
I like the characters, they aren't normal everyday people with magic. Margot is a struggling waitress, independently living paycheck to paycheck with her dog. She is still learning her magic and now has lost her best friend/sister from another mother.
She builds a type of 'you scratch my back, ill scratch yours' arrangement with a supernatural group to aid in finding her sister that may have been taken by another more sinister group.
Since this is a world building series, there are a lot of characters. For the most part, I did not get lost in the list of names and personalities. I often feel overwhelmed in these big casts trying to determine what is relevant to this story. this author did not over share the lives of incidental characters. Yet this is a connected story, I'm sure I could read book 1 and be 'like aha, that's why...'
Its a good story, I like the writing style even though I never felt fully immersed in the book.

A monster romance set in New Orleans. The first half was a little slow but the second half more than made up for that. From around the 55% mark I didn’t want to stop reading.
Margot is an oracle (psychic) and hoping to find her lost sister binds herself to a nightwalker Kane. I could hear this man’s voice purr in my head. The author did a great job at bringing him to life for the reader. We slowly see these two grow to depend on each other and the attraction between them is pretty hot.
We also get a good intro into another book in the series with Addi, Margot’s missing sister.

Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow, I really enjoyed this book! I am more than likely going to be picking up the next book, but I currently don't have an interest in the first book and was very happy to find out that this book could be read on its own. While it does mention the couple from the first book, I was never confused and I didn't feel like I was spoiled for anything if I decided to go back and read it later.

My favorite thing about this book was our main character, Margot. She is such an absolute badass and I loved how no matter how scary, she did what was right. Some of our other characters had doubts about her, but I knew she'd never let me down. I definitely would want her in my corner.

I also really enjoyed the dual POV. I am a sucker for it. It really rounded the story out and caused everything to be very clear.

This book gets 4.5/5 stars from me. While I loved my time with this book and will definitely check out more by this author, my gut said this isn't a 5-stat for you. The only thing that held me back is that I felt like sometimes our monster was a little too rough. Mostly with his temper. I know I sound like a nutcase seeing as how he is a literal monster, but I don't know, it just didn't sit right with me at times.

Overall, I really enjoyed myself. I would absolutely recommend this book to others.

I liked so much of this. The over all plot was really interesting, though I got lost in some parts at the beginning. I don’t know if it is because I have not read the first book though, so I didn’t consider it in my rating. I did struggled to get into it at first or hold attention, but once I became invested, I was hooked.

I adored the dynamic between Kane and Tanus. Hellhound, kept and under control but not owned or mastered, in a sense. I also really loved how Kane was such an adorable ball of confusion about emotions when he met Margot.

The initial attraction Margot felt was strange to me, not that she was attracted so much as ‘hot’ for him…only because of what she believed he did. However, I did like how their banter grew and she enjoyed it just as much as he did. I was really glad she didn’t think he was the killer for an extended time. I didn’t it to be a “I’m falling for a killer” story and it wasn’t!! I really loved their dynamic and the telepathy was so much fun!!

The book teetered between star ratings (3 or 4) at so many points. I am definitely intrigued by the world enough to return and give it another try. I decided on 3 stars (liked it, good). There were some pacing issues at a few points and plot points that pushed me out of the story which kept it from 4 stars, but I feel like there is a lot of promise in the author’s story telling and I want to read more!

I received a copy of this book from Story Origins in exchange for an unbiased review.

Margot and Kane!

A beautiful spicy tale I could not put down. I love each character, each unique. I had trouble putting this book down and was reading it when I should have been working! . It's my first book by this author and can't wait to read more! It's a paranormal book. It is with M/F relationships. Is the second book but can be read as a standalone.

4.5. This was my first book by this author, and I will be reading more. This book is the second in a series and can be read alone, but other characters from the previous book make an appearance. This book is written in dual POVs. Kane and Margot's story is an enemies to lovers SPICY supernatural story. Several supernatural women have gone missing in New Orleans including Margot's "soul sister" and all clues point to Kane and his "partner". Featuring witty banter, family secrets, slowish burn, and Spicy scenes. This book is a definite must especially if you love spicy books and antihero/ morally gray characters. I received the ARC for this book for free but all options are my own.

1000/10. I could hardly put the book down. I loved the different look on paranormal romance and the way it was put together. I really enjoyed being pulled in to the world of the main characters and seeing everything from their views and their emotions throughout the whole book I would recommend to anyone who likes paranormal romance with adventure and suspense. I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens next.

This is the first book I’ve read by Alexa Michaels and she had me completely under her spell! This was an exciting and intense monster romance with a satisfying HEA 🖤 The story is well written, with an interesting world, intriguing characters and lots of angst. I loved Kane and Margot and am looking forward to reading about Addi’s adventure next!

I am really grateful that I received and ARC of the second installment in this series and this is my honest review.

Overall as a second book in this series I find it a bit weaker than the first book. But this book can be read as a standalone, so you don't have to read the first book to understand this one.
As I read the first book just recently, I will compare these books to eachother a bit though.

What I enjoyed again a lot from Alexa was that this plot was so compelling. This is again a steamy and spicey book but has a great story too. This story arc felt bigger than the first to me, because we had a bit of a mystery to solve with the missing girls and Margots missing sister.
The only thing that I didn't like was that this time, the beginning of the book was very slow. It took some time until the story picked up and you couldn't put the book down anymore.

Our FMC Margot I liked just fine, she is a strong independet woman with a lot of empathy in her heart. Her choices were all understandable and she did nothing to annoy me. The only thing that I felt like could be established more, especially in the beginning could've been her being drawn to darkness. The only thing we were told was that she likes the gothic style. But honestly that does not correlate to liking the bad dark stuff, kinky sex games or interest in moody monsters.
So her being so wholly into all the kinky stuff that Kane suggests was very out of the blue in the beginning. Especially considering that she is a Virgin and only 21. If she were a bit older or at least sexually more experienced that would not have bothered me or felt so weird to me. As it stands it felt like we missed a big part of Margots character that just appeared with the sex-monster, because the plot needed it to.

Kane is our monster and MC, because the book is written in a dual POV again, we get into his head as well. He goes through the most character growth in the story. Though he changes the most he still stays monster through and through, so he is still himself. He wasn't as sexy to me as Vince from the first book, but I think that has to do with the kind of sex he enjoys and his kinks. As these are not my cup of tea.

Talking of the spice, this book is very spicey. It is written very well but for me was not as good as the first one. And this is because of two things, one is "my" fault and the other because of the characters.
So the "me-problem" like I said the kinks depicted in this book aren't my cup of tea. So while they were written good, I could not enjoy the scences as much because I was cringing a lot. And I want to point out that it is a me-problem as someone else might highly enjoy it exactly because of the kinky stuff.
The second problem was that these two did not have that much chemistry, at least in the beginning. I did not really believe their instant sexual attraction and they did not really built a connection besides lust for over half of the book. And without the characters having chemistry the spicey scenes feel very hollow and not as spicey. At the end I believed their relationship yes, but I still think the characters from the first book had better chemistry.

BUT I want to point out that this book had a better ending than the first book. This time Alexa actually wrote an ending. Whereas the first ended rather aprupt here there is a full rounded story which left me with a smile on my face.

I still rate it lower that the first book with 3.5 stars, because it is a supposed to be a spicey book and I enjoyed it less here and felt the FMC could've been a bit more fleshed out consindering her sexual interests, which are quite important in these kind of stories.
Still I really recommend this book and this series and am looking forward to the third story in the series!

This is the second installment in the Monsters in the Moonlight series with focus on a topic and character mentioned in the first story. You do not have to read the first to enjoy this book, as this story offers more development into the world that Ms Michaels has created.
Margot is looking for her sister because she's missing and there have been a string of missing supernatural girls going missing. While, Kane, a creature of darkness and shadow, and his handler, Tanus, are searching for a secretive demon cult known for abducting female supernaturals. I enjoyed the dynamic of Kane using Margot as a daylight vessel (he's a shadowy creature and sunlight burns him). It's pretty light on some of the possession novels I've read; Kane can't control Margot while inhabiting her body, just send her emotions/thoughts. I liked Margot discovering more of herself and her abilities, plus she never had any type of "poor me" type attitude. I've found that most of Ms Michaels female leads always have a "I'm a bada$$" vibe to them. Kane is an interesting character; he's a creature of the night, where he was once human, but transformed into darkness and shadow because he bought about the deaths a bunch of people. The slow burn between Kane and Margot was thoroughly enjoyable because they never wanted the other to win their games and I loved the scenes/dialogue between them! I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to seeing the series continue because the world and the character than the author creates are quite enjoyable and I hope she continues writing them!
One thing, I'd love the author to do is to give Cassidy her own story. She is interesting and I like where the author has taken her character so far. Plus Jake.

There's steam, swearing, and some violence, plus a girl embracing her inner darkness.

This story can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the first book before this one, as it offers an introduction to the main character in this story.

Meh... Couldn't Engage

*****Spoilers*****

I'm not a fan of this one, some of that could very well be my dislike of psychics and oracles being the main character in books. Biased at outset, I was skeptical but read the book anyway because I wanted to give it a chance. Margot is a waitress whose sister Addi goes missing. Not a biological sister but some bonded sister relationship I wasn't really sure about, of they were such good friends they formed a bond or if it was something metaphysical. In any case, instead of letting others handle looking for her sister, Margot decides she'll okay detective by herself. Sighs. I understand wanting to be a part of the search but going it her own was frustrating for me. Thankfully, she gets help from Kane, who is a shadow walker and his keeper Tanus. Kane is made up of shadows but can solidify so that he has a body but can't work in daylight because it burns. They start off rocky because Margot believes she found who had information about or had taken her sister in Kane and Tanus. When Margot finds out she was in the wrong, the three enter into an agreement where Margot will help them with a mission to destroy a cult which they lead Margot to believe has her sister. The rest of the book is Margot and Kane being bonded together, Margot being able to call Kane through their bond, Margot working on the leads she gets about the cult, other characters and their relationships, and Margot, Kane developing their relationship, and Margot learning more about what else her powers can do. All in all, I wasn't engaged and wasn't really excited about much that occurred. Again, could be my psychic bias but wouldn't want to see what happens with anything beyond this book.

Thank you StoryOrgin and to the sweet author who provided this arc in exchange for an honest review. "Bound To The Dark" by Alexa Michaels is a book in the Monsters In Moonlight Series and can be a standalone read and physical copies will be available today, Novemeber 11th. The story is about a female psychic in search of her missing adopted sister. She strikes a bargain with two supernatural beings. Which leads her to be bound to one night-crawler; a creature who rules in the shadows. She agrees to let him inhabit her body during the daylight to help search for her sister and other missing virgins. While their time together their bond becomes more than just a working partnership. However, can she really trust a monster?

I enjoyed the quality of writing this author put in her book, and I am interested in reading more of her work. However, this book and the main characters were not for me. I had to push through the first half of this book before it started to catch my attention. I found myself more intrigued by other character in the world that Michaels has built.

I would recommend this book for those who enjoy urban fantasy. Readers that enjoy one sided instant lust that turns in to love and those who enjoy unconventional spice in their books. It is unfortunately not the spice I tend to enjoy reading (that's too spicy of a pepper for me 😉). There is a lot of world to keep up to as well so recommending to folks who are able to intake fast-paced world building. Looking forward to reading another fantasy world by this author and hope I will enjoy that more.

All Margot wanted to do was find her sister Addi. While searching for answers Margot found a clue in Addi's journal about her interaction with a shade monster named Tanus and his pet nightwalker names Kane. Unbeknownst, to Margot, Addi was trying to help the monsters in their quest to put an end to the disappearance of all of the girl who has gone missing in New Orleans.

As a psychic/oracle Margot possess a particular power that can be useful in the monster's quest. The Nightwalker was unhinged and always left a path of destruction in his wake. He could only function in the night and needed a powerful vessel to travel during the day.

In an act of pure desperation Margot makes a bargain with the monster in exchange for him helping her find her sister. Margot and Kan (Nightwalker) embark on an oftentimes humorous journey together. With Margot as his vessel he is able to experience the day as she would. As time moves on the two find themselves bickering less and listening and talking more. Eventually what started as begrudging relationship soon transformed from frenemies to friends and eventually lovers.

In Margot's quest she not only found her sister but a love with an unconventional mate who made her feel and experience things no other human has ever done.

⭐️ 3/5
🌶 4/5

Description and world/character building were strong in areas but lacking in other areas. Overall it felt rushed. I still enjoyed the book but it just needed more work. I also struggled to associate the nightwalker and shades with the fearsome creatures they are supposed to be. I understand the nightwalker is an outlier for his species usual characteristics when it comes to Margot. What made me struggle is the shades are supposed to be fearsome and without feeling. Tanus shows repeatedly that he has feelings with how he treats his nightwalker. Gail, the librarian, should not have been able to empathize with Margot situation and the Captain would not have had leniency toward the nightwalker. I also don't understand how Tanus is not the leader if he holds so much sway over the leaders decisions.

My heat meter is not a portrayal of how well the scenes were written. My heat meter is based on how often there are scenes and how dirty/unconventional the scenes are. There are several scenes which included: fondling, oral, standard, rear, and some light bdsm. Add in the aspect that this is all done with a nighwalker made up of only shade and the heat rating is a 4/5.

4.5/5 stars!
3/5 in termes of spiciness

I received the ARC and immediately started reading and was absolutely not disappointed! It's my first book from this author and I clearly plan on reading more by them!
I totally loved this book, our female lead Margot is a real badass, doing everything she can to find her sister by bargaining with dark creatures and end up more tangled up that she planned!
Her relationship with Kane is everything, the banter, the trust and loyalty, everything was well paced, it didn't feel like it was too rushed. And KANE! (I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM). My man (should I call him a man??) was obsessed since the first glance. I've seen someone simps as deliciously as he does!
This book was a real treat.

Some of my favorite quotes:
"This humble little tale is for all those who wish the monsters under their beds would come out and *play* ."
The dedication itself give the color!

"“If we reach a point where I take you as a man takes a woman, know this: you’ll be letting a beast loose upon your flesh. And it won’t be a temporary thing. Because this beast won’t let you go. I’ll claim you; you’d be mine, Margot.”

" I burn for you, my sunshine."

This book follows Margot who grew up in a foster home for special beings where she met her sister Addie, at first she is trying to find out what happened to her sister because she was missing and she goes with a revenge mentality, this is when she makes a deal with Kane who is a shadow monster that can adapt in shape and she becomes his vessel during the day to help each other, because they both have their missions.

Guys I loved this book. I loved everything from start to finish, the story, the characters, the plot, the relationships, the back and forth between Margot and Kane at the beginning, the way Kane was described at first as broody and with no feelings but he was really a sweetheart and the SPICE! 🤌🏻🔥

I can say that my favorite character here was Kane, I loved the evolution of him as a character, but what I loved the most was how from the beginning he treated Margot like a queen and called her "LOVE" all the time. 😍

Read if you like:
-dual pov
-quick and fast paced read
-paranormal romance
-tragic and angsty shadow monster
-smart, sassy and strong heroine
-enemies to lovers
-forced proximity
-hide and seek
-he falls first (kinda)

This is the second book in the "Monsters in Moonlight" series but can be read as a standalone!

Rating: 4.5/5

This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone. This story was so good! I was drawn in right from the beginning and enjoyed the entire ride!

Margot is desperate after she learns her friend Addi is missing. There have been numerous girls disappearing recently. Margot finds a clue to the culprits from a journal entry made by Addi. Using an old spell her friend gave her, Margot was able to trap Kane, a night creature that was referenced in Addi's journal.

After learning that Addi was working with both Kane and his mentor Tanus, Margot agrees to be a vessel for Kane to travel in the daytime. Working closely with Kane, Margot becomes more attracted to him. However, as delightul as playtime is, she cannot allow anything to distract her from locating Addi....

This book was so well written and the premise was both original and exciting. I highly recommend this series! Now I just have to wait for the next installment....

I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review . I am definitely going to get the next book in the series and need to read the the first I read this one without reading the first so can be read as a stand-alone if wanted. My favorite type of books are POV from multiple characters so I really enjoyed the POV from both Margot and Kane ( the nightwalker ) .Anything and everything to do with NOLA and the supernatural entities interests me so the fact that Margot ended up bound to the “ monster” in order to find the missing supernatural girls from the foster home she was at really kept me intrigued in the story. This book gets 5/5 stars from me great monster romance. The dedication in the beginning of the book really summed it up “ for those who wish the monsters under their bed would come out and play “. The perfect introduction.

💜♥️🌌 An almost crush!

In the old house, Margot climbed the wooden stairs in a cacophony of creaks.

Her sister Addie was missing, stolen from her own bed.

How could one explain the inexplicable?...

--------------

A very nice discovery and an almost crush on this amazing and very original story, with main characters that I personally found adorable and endearing, which is a shame for an evil shadow.

I loved the background story and the author's writing.

If the first quarter of the story is rather neutral and calm, the rest of the novel is totally captivating, full of action and twists.

Note that this is more of an adult reading because there is a single dark erotic passage at around 25% of the book.

I personally found this novel adorable and irresistible!
I will happily read the other two novels in the series.

I highly recommend this beautiful novel!

*5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This came outta nowhere and slapped the hell out of me. I honestly just a pretty book on kickstarter and was like “monster romance yeah why not sign me up”
What I was not expecting was to find A FUCKING MASTERPIECE IN MONSTER ROMANCE.

Like why doesn’t this have more readers???

The plot is insane, the love interest Kane is 😩😩😩
He’s not just a monster or enemy he IS THE VILLAIN.
The burn the whole word down except for her type of villain and no sugar coating it. HE ALMOST KILLED HER DOG 😂😂

Margot is also aaamazing. Stubborn as heck and very spicy, not to mention SO clever. She was outsmarting everybody at every turn.

Lastly, the setting was in New Orleans. It was spooky and supernatural, the atmosphere was so easy to sink into.
Definitely will read more from this author.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Tropes: forced proximity, monster romance, supernatural world, bonded

I really enjoyed this book! You have Margot, who takes no crap, is super independent, and so loyal. She's on the hunt for her missing sister. There has been a string of kidnapped supernatural females, Margot believes her sister has been taken and is being held captive with them. This leads her to two shadow men, a shade, Tanus, and a nightwalker, Kane. Let me just say that Kane is the perfect broody, possessive guy.

The chemistry's between Margot and Kane is fantastic. Kane gets bound to Margot while the work to locate and save her sister and the other kidnapped girls.

I don't want to say much else and give away any spoilers, but this story was so entertaining and I definitely recommend it.

Another amazing read by Alexa H Michaels. I read the first book in this series last month and couldn't wait to jump into this book. We change settings a bit here but get to follow Margot's story that we were introduced to towards the end of the first book. I adore Margot. She is sassy and bitter and a bada$$. Her connection to Kane is amazing to watch develop, especially with all the hurdles between them when they first meet. I saw that this can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend going back and reading the first book, because it was just as amazing. Will be reading the rest of this series as it is published.

Wow. Another excellent story from the pen of Alexa Michaels.

Margot is a psychic who is looking for her missing sister. Lots of virgin young supernatural women are going missing and it is believed that evil monsters have them, her sister amongst them.

Margot is drawn to the dark and meets Tanus and his shadowy monster of the dark, Kane. She finds herself drawn to Kane and agrees to let him use her body as a vessel during the day as he cannot bear sunlight. In return they will then help her find her sister.

The story is full of a few twists and turns and becomes steamy at times.

I loved it.

This book…. Alexa has hit a new high in paranormal monster romance!

I love the heroine (Margot) and the nightwalker (Kane) storyline. Margot is determined to use her supernatural abilities that hit her at random times to try to find her sister. Kane as at the mercy of his keeper and the brotherhood to serve as a means to an end of a cult.

There is enough spice for a devilish good time without it taking over the storyline and turning it into a pile of smut with no direction.

This book is an amazing twist of paranormal, monster romance, and action adventure tale and I, personally, can not wait to read more from Alexa!

Welcome to the supernatural underworld of New Orleans

A nightwalker trying to rescue kidnapped girls can’t be at that bad, right?

LOVE the dedication:
‘This humble little tale is for all those who wish the monsters under their beds would come out and play.

The author provides a little sing-a-long:
‘Hush, little human, don’t speak a word. The monster’s going to safeguard your world…
…Hush, little human, don’t fear the night. Your monster is with you, for you’ve become his light.’

Fave quote:
‘It’s not in the nature of queens to grovel.’

We’ll meet a werewolf in ‘Caught By The Dark’ (in 2023).

Books with characters such as this are so very hard to find. This is my first look at author Alexa H. Michael and I enjoyed the journey of Margot and Kane. Margot is searching for her sister and Kane and Tanus have a mission of their own. Thinking their missions are intertwined Margot opts to be used as a vessel for Kane, a nightwalker. Working together they find more than they bargained for and discover things they didn't… love wasn't on the table. It showed up anyway and betrayal was soon to follow.

Overall, I enjoyed this story and I found it to read that I will rate as a four-point-five.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Finding the light

Book 2 of the Monsters in Moonlight series is an imaginative monster/romance. Margot is an oracle and encounters Kane when she is looking for her missing sister. Kane is a monster with a good heart. He is drawn to Margot but his mission collides with hers and he can’t afford to be truly honest with her. Will his deceit cause Margot to lose faith in her monster? This story is a humorous, dark delight and I really enjoyed it. Ms. Michaels also filled her story with incredibly interesting secondary characters….the next story will be Aldi’s tale but I would love to read more about Jake and Cassidy and the kitsune!

Monsters in Moonlight book 2 was a dark but fun romp.
Margot is hell bent on finding her lost sister. Teaming up with a pair of supernaturals against her better judgment.
This book takes us on a wild ride through the supernatural community in New Orleans. With cameos from characters from book 1 it ties the 2 worlds together but I think it can also be read as a standalone as the connections are not dependant on knowing what happened in book 1.
Margot and Kane make a good team and the steam was so hot.
I received an advanced reader copy and in exchange I am giving an honest and fair review

The storyline and plot didn't mesh well with me but I feel there was gradual potential as the story continued, I thought the take on a demon/vampire was very interesting and the tension between Margot and Kane was fun to read as well. As far as a rating it would be a 3.5 for me and that's based on writing style and plot depth but it's still an interesting read. If you're into a strong female main character, a surly male main character, and some steamy monster spice then this is the book for you!
