A Universe Torn Between Calm and ChaosStella Jayne Walsh, New York City’s top-rated trauma surgeon, holds an astounding record. She’s never lost a patient—until the day she does. In that moment, her world shatters, and she’s swept into an adventure that launches her from Manhattan into alien worlds in the far reaches of space.
John “Ryder” Alexander is a handsome rogue and one of the most decorated soldiers in the galaxy—until he turns unwilling mercenary, blackmailed into committing heinous crimes.
Stella is targeted by a woman hell-bent on creating a universe where other women don’t exist and all men bend to her will. Stella and her crew of misfits must stop this villain before she helps awaken a slumbering force of evil.
Can Stella let go of the life she knew and learn to trust her unlikely new team to save everyone—and everything—she loves?
This book was fun and fresh! Science fiction meets female super hero in the first book in the series. The characters are funny and lovable and the plot is "out of this world" as we follow Stella on her adventures throughout the universe. There are plenty of characters working for good or evil and lots of twists that will keep you on your toes. The novel wrapped up with a satisfying conclusion that also left me wanting to know what would be next for Stella in novel number two!
Technology and physics do not make much sense in this book. The plot is interesting, but too 🧀. The characters are underdeveloped and jumping between scenes is too chaotic. I almost forced myself to finish the reading and will certainly skip the next book.
I loved this book! A doctor and a ninja warrior from TV were both abducted by aliens. The ship that they were on when they were abducted was overrun by Raiders. Luckily, the police of the universe called the sentinels, rescued them. In this time, the doctor found out she was more than just a doctor. She was actually a keeper. She was an alien too.
It’s a fun and quick read. The vocabulary is quirky for a contemporary novel, but it adds to the character of the story. It’s the beginning of, what I’m assuming is, a series of stories based around finding heroes to add to the main character for a final battle. Good introduction story and fun characters. Personally really enjoyed Elliot as a comic relief character.
First Strike is Angela Hass's first book and it is the perfect combination of Sci-fi and a bit of fantasy. The characters where ones you rooted for or completely despised. Looking forward to seeing where the next books go!
Wonderful read. Action-packed with Avengers-style humour. Refreshing to have a reluctant heroine at the height of her career and a love interest that is not brash but can hold his own against any villain. Especially as he is not threatened by but supports her in coming into her own.
Angela Haas has created a wonderful new world of badass sci-fi/fantasy women! I had a blast diving into her amazing world of Keepers, hilarious villains, and witty banter. I can't wait for Book Two!
Cruelty, hate, kidnapping, loss. All key ingredients of a space novel. Don't forget beings almost like the Time Lords. Powerful, just, and caring of others.
First Strike, by author Angela Haas, is the first installment in the authors Keepers of the Universe series. As the story opens, readers are introduced to Dr. Stella Jayne Walsh, a trauma surgeon who works for New York City's Mercy General. She's not had a death in 5 years, but that is all about to change. On that same day, Walsh is drugged, kidnapped, and spirited away, along with former reality contestant Elliot Driver, to another universe where they are supposed to be the newest residents of a fledgling new planet led by Captain Stallworth.
