Onika :

I fled Jamaica to avoid one gangster only to have another set his sights on me. Now, I have to rely on a whole new breed of mafia man to protect me from this new threat. The price—marriage. He says it’s for my protection, that it will be temporary. I tell him no one can ever find out. With my life on the line, I have no time to play wife to an enforcer with a wicked tongue, who is more deadly than even his boss. But every time I’m around him, he bares another piece of his damaged soul and lights my body aflame.

I’ve lived in darkness my entire life. The day Onika walks through my door, she brings light and warmth like I’ve never had before. When I learn her life is in danger, I take my chance to claim what is mine. I offer her a temporary marriage for her protection. All lies. There is nothing temporary about us, and I will use everything at my disposal to convince her. I will destroy anyone who tries to take her from me. But with more enemies demanding her death, I will have to enter the darkness once more.

Truly Enjoyable

I must say that I really invested myself in the characters and their lives. Each book was better than the last. Lorenzo and Onika ended up being my favorite couple of them all. When you hear about Lorenzo’s background you can’t help but root for him to find love and happiness. The action throughout the storyline kept your attention from beginning to end. I really loved the family dynamics and how close everyone was there for each other. Oh I would be remiss not to mention the love scenes between them was extremely hooottttt but also beautiful. You also told me about a toy I had never heard of called a sybian. Thank you Ms Melverna.

Just ok

I was looking forward to Lorenzo’s story and it felt flat to me. I couldn’t really see the love story but instead just a set of circumstances where 2 people fall into each other. Lorenzo and Gio were supposed to be very close, however in this book they feel more like boss/employee and it’s very disappointing. Lorenzo getting married without Gio there or at least aware given that he himself says that Gio is the closest person to him doesn’t make sense. The idea that Gio would let Lorenzo go to Jamaica alone without backup seemed far fetched. Gio wasn’t even really mentioned at the wedding redo. I know the whole story about her family was supposed to be lighthearted, however it left a really bad taste in my mouth. They came across as selfish and ungrateful. Her father even more so. Let’s recap, Lorenzo put himself in harms way, for free, to protect and rescue Onika, a woman he barely knew at first and who for all intent and purposes tried to spy on his organization, not once but many times, almost dying in the process and he didn’t even get a thank you for his efforts. Instead he had to contend with her family’s rudeness and constant passive aggressive comments because there wasn’t a wedding. Something which clearly was easy to fix. Even Onika didn’t show much appreciation for him, almost getting killed in Jamaica, focusing on the 2 weeks with no contact. Instead of thinking of Lorenzo’s Hawaii wedding as romantic or even try to understand his motives (given her knowledge of his childhood) she chose the whole manipulation theme. Let’s face it, she agreed to it and it was self serving as she needed his protection, so this self righteousness was frustrating. I don’t remember her thanking him for all he did for her either.
The whole name change was too corny. If anything he should have taken Olivieri as a name since Gio and his family saved his life and “raised” him, and more importantly he has bled for that name.

My fave couple of the series😘🥰💞

I was looking forward to finally reading about Zo and Onika and I have to say out of the entire series this is my fave book❤️❤️❤️.

The reason for Onika showing up at the bar for work is not known for some time but Zo knew he would do everything to have her😍. I enjoyed how resourceful Onika was dealing with the questionable position she finds herself in👍🏽. Onika wasn’t looking for a relationship, she needed to make money to be free of the nightmare situation and I can’t blame her for giving into Zo’s charm🥵🥵🥵. Zo desperately wanted the scheme of protecting Onika to be a permanent solution but not did that backfire and you can feel the anguish he had😞😖. Not having had a reel family he had to humble himself to understand the wrong he did. Onika’s family are hilarious even as they learned the truth about Zo and leaving home. They definitely didn’t make it easy on Zo😔. Dad stuck it to him but it was a good thing as he learned how important family was. Can I just say that Zo’s kinky side was hella hot🥵😈😈 and Onika was all for it which made it super steamy hot, phew😰🥵🔥.

I really loved their story and with action, suspense, and romance it was everything🙌🏾. Even their bantering showed how much they really cared for each other😘. This was a great read Ms. Melverna McFarlane and I highly recommend it.

The end

This book took place as the same timeframe as Rene and Nick just from Onika's and Zo's pov. I think for context it made sense to do that but it read a bit repetitive. The one thing that I hopes to have better explained was Zoo's feelings about Jessie. It came up but it was cleared up so it felt like onion was a standin bc he couldn't have Jessie. My favorite side characters were Lei and Antoine!!!! I wished the book was these two met, stuff started happening, go to Hawaii (bulk of their relationship development happens on the island), the Emilio kidnapping, the cleaning up the TC stuff. The TC storyline I thought felt rushed and was anticlimactic.

The one thing I think that was done really well is the handling of Zoo's childhood trauma. Onika didn't pushed and let him talk through it on his own terms. And I love, loved that So was able to be folded into her own family. This was the most satisfying part of the book and of course Tuffy 😽

CN: child abuse and neglect, stalking, gun violence, torture, dubious consent (Onika agreeing to strip in exchange for Andres life, blackmail, kidnapping,

I love this whole series

I am sad this seem like the last book. I hope we get more from this author. I enjoy having the whole Duncan family back! I want to see more but I am good with ending. This book answered all my questions about cousin NiNi that I had about her past. I am glad she is happy with her life again. I got to know Jesse had 3 boys that is funny Gio, got a football team for himself an the CAT was so sweet that made my day. Happy reading. 😉

The ending was the best part

Reginald and Delroy was the best part in this book, the back and forth jabs was hilarious. Ok now once again just like with ropes, the butt plugs left me looking at Zo in a whole new light. It took away the bad boy mafia image. It was a NO for the ropes and butt plugs for me..other than that I still tried to blocked that out and enjoyed the rest of the book.

Onika

Onika was in trouble with her ex-boyfriend! He got caught up with a mafia family and brought her into his mess. Her trouble ended up on her cousin Rene’s doorstep and because of who her “man” is connected to this ended up an Oliveri mafia family problem. Can Onika survive under the protection of the sexy Italian mafia man? Can she keep her feelings for Lorenzo at bay? Can he do the same? A good read!

Zo and Onika

Unexpectedly good read the characters are mismatched too say the least..Opposite always attract and there definitely opposites.. Zo is in Love for the first time in his life and it’s overwhelming..Onika is in Love but she doesn’t know what to make of their relationship. There’s unseen enemies making deadly moves against Onika she is carrying a secret that know one knows about..Explosive

A Awesome Read, that I know I’ll be reading again

Oh this was so funny, I loved the way Onika father treated Zo the most. I enjoyed the way Zo treated Onika, like a true Queen and he was her ride or die in any situation. But to me it was hilarious how Onika father & Uncle was so competitive. I’m going to have to read this over again, I’m going to line the whole series up and read them in order to get that good and happy feeling that I always get from reading a good book.

I really enjoyed the conclusion to this series. The concurrent parts of the story were told well and not rehashed from book two beyond what it meant for our MCs. Onika and Lorenzo had a truly genuine emotional and physical connection that was developed slowly through the circumstances they were dealing with. Love this couple.

Great book!

I knew from the very beginning of this book that I would like it! Zo's love for Onika was priceless! Add in the Oliveris and Rene and Nick, not to mention Onika's family, especially her father made this one of the most funny and romantic book that I have read in a long time! Ms. Mcfarlane, I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to your next release!

Loved this book!

This story of Onika and Lorenzo took a while to get into because I found it the most complex of the three books. A woman, Onika who came from a large, extremely loving and close family falling in love with an emotionally damaged Lorenzo. Got to say, the Duncan’s were a welcomed treat and so funny and dramatic. I enjoyed the Jamaican patois. Memories of home.

Weddings

It took me a minute to get into this story. But boy was it a great story. I must admit I enjoyed him in his feelings,as well as her in hers. While all the time being madly in love with one another. Even if he had a stronger foundation. It's a good story give it a read. You'll laugh some to.

Great read!

Loved Onika and Lorenzo's characters. They were a fiery, well matched pair. Onika's family is hysterical! It was a little tricky with the Jamaican words/dialect, but it adds to my vision of the characters and their authenticity. Thank you!!

I wanted to love this book., but the h rudeness turned me off. Her family was even worst. She knew about his pain agree to get married and then cry about it. What about her and her family saying thank you

Loads of twists and turns for these characters. The romance for some could be believed. Family values was important in this storyline as within the previous books of this series..

Question??

Does this end this series? Or is there more to come? Pretty good story but a little hard trying to keep up with the language changes.

tutoring book for patois

I tried, I got a few chapters in and the writing was boring and nonsensical. Also the endless patois was too much and unnecessary. Hard pass.
