Darra is her clan's last hope for peace. The Sloanes have been at war with the Carrigans for years, and now time is running out to save her people from the tyranny of "Carrigan The Cruel". In a last-ditch effort to end the brutality, Darra's father devises a plan that will see the clans unite and the bloody war finally come to an end.
With no other options, Darra must sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her clan. She had always believed she would marry for love, but nobody expected this! She is destined to be betrothed to the infamous Laird Samuel "The Cruel" Carrigan.
Most others would simply resign themselves to their predicament, but Darra is not like most others. Determined to save her people, she's prepared to face the challenge head-on. With the fate of too many lives hanging in the balance, Darra and Samuel must do everything in their power to hold the peace, or the consequences will be dire.
This is the first novella in the series and I really enjoyed it, it felt similar in style to Karen Marie Moning or Dawn Thompson,my two favourite historical romance authors, so I was really happy!
This is an arranged marriage story and Darra is horrified she's being married off to a brutal warlord in order to end a war between clans. But Samuel's not proud of the killer he was raised to be and wants her to give him a chance, he's a true gallant gentleman and gives her tons of time, space and respect.
The story is short and soon over with a cliffhanger ending, but I really enjoyed the world, characters and setting that's built. I think this couple is going to be very beautiful to watch as their love and affection blooms.
I am voluntarily leaving this review. This is the first book told in a series that does leave you on a cliffhanger, but is well worth the wait! The story is well written, the character building is great and the drama/suspense is great.
Darra is doing what she has to in order to save her clan. Samuel is tired of his label but cannot seem as weak. I love that he actually has a different side that he is willing to show Darra from the beginning to earn her trust rather then being the heartless and cruel monster of his reputation.
I cannot wait to see what will happen in the next book, and how this story unfolds. You will be hooked from page one!
A new story in parts by Fiona Knightley is one you'll want to read.
In the first part we are introduced to the main characters; Laird Samuel Carrigan and Darra Sloan. An arranged marriage has been discussed between the two to end a long-running war. Darra only knows her future husband's name by his nickname Samuel the Cruel. Samuel must tell his clan that he has a solution to end the war and fears that his clan will see him as a coward. The meeting between the two goes better than they expected but it is Samuel's stepmother who throws a spanner in the works
I received an ARC through the writer but this is my plain opinion
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have read other books by Fiona and once again she does not disappoint in this book. In this story, we are introduced to our protagonists Darra and Samuel from warring clans who are to be wed to bring peace. They both have several reservations of the other due to this.
This book is a quick read which is the norm in Fiona Knightley’s work as is the way she ends her books which are cliffhangers. I enjoy this because that means I can’t wait to read the next book once it’s available to see what happens next.
Laird Guthrie Sloane has agreed to an arranged marriage between his daughter, Darra and Laird Samuel Carrigan to bring to an end of a 20 year war between the two clans. Darra had heard awful things about Laird Carrigan but after arriving at the Carrigan Keep, she sees a softer side of him until Laird Carrigan’s step mother reveals a truth too harsh to accept. Great start to a new series. I received a free copy for my honest review.
The first book of a new series from this author. Promising start. Focus is on an arranged marriage aimed to end the warring between two clans. Character development is good, and there is a possibility of romance between the bride and groom. Will the marriage unite the clans and stop the war? Will the couple find love? Not so much attention on the historical setting in this very brief book, which ends with a cliffhanger. I received this book as an arc and this review is entirely voluntary.
When you start to read this book, it feels like you are really 'in" the story. The things around you dissapear and you are in this world. I have felt this also with other books that I read about Miss Knightley. It start already exiting from the first page. So, you do not want to stop reading, it is a pageturner, you want to know what happens next. So, I am looking forward to read the next book! I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A great start to Darra and Laird Samuel’s story of an arraigned marriage for peace between their clans .This book kept me engaged from the first page to the last giving an insight to their personalities and feelings it leaves me anxiously looking forward to the next book to see how their story and the clans peace plays out
Wow what a read. Once you start you can't put it down. It moves along at a pace which h is perfect for the story. You will love these characters and you want to be there for them and the story will not let you down. It is a must read.
I really enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end as the story took you on a rollercoaster ride with twist and turns. The characters had their own unique personalities which were genuine and had their own agenda in what they wanted for their clans. Loved it
First off know this ends in a cliffhanger . I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, but this was a strong start with interesting characters. The theme is an arranged marriage which the heroine fights until she gets to know the hero. I'm looking forward to more from these two interesting characters.
This is a well written story - written well enough that I read the entire box-set before I stopped long enough to think of a review - it is a well written part of an equally well written longer saga.
I received a free Arc copy of this book and am under no obligation to review it.
great start to this series, with drama and hatred that slowly leads to the beginning of love then deception. this story ends leaving you want to know what happens next
