For more than two centuries, the history of Chicago intertwined with that of the Kaplan family, a Scottish clan of noble origins, forced to leave their lands and home after the Battle of Culloden.
The Kaplans built the city house by house, protected its inhabitants and businesses, grew it, loved it, ruled it.
With their own code of honor and traditions, the Kaplan clan decided on the criminal organizations and legit businesses operating in the city.
But things changed, and, when tragedy strikes into the heart of the family, the Kaplans are forced to make hard choices and pick sides.
Honor, tradition, love, dedication, betrayal, intrigue, deceit-these are the stories of the Kaplan men.
H.M. Wolfe lives with the coolest Mom in the Universe and a fat, gay, submissive tomcat. She loves writing stories about boys and men who love, cherish, respect and protect other boys and men.
The plot is, honestly, really good. And that makes all the confusion of too many plotlines and characters feel sort of worth it. We have at least 6 different couples, about 10 ir more different narrators depending on what line we're standing on, two thirds of the characters are related but even with a "who's who" glossary I still don't get the relationship between half the characters. Also, many characters get a name change that ends up being implicit. And the ages of the characters aren't mentioned outside of the ones mentioned in the glossary, which makes understanding time since the events that triggered the story a bit hard to follow. We jump between plot lines, characters, narrators, names, spaces... it can be a lot, it can make the story slow, and it can be confusing. But the plot in itself is good enough to keep me interested in reading the rest
Two Century’s ago a Scottish clan of noble origins was forced to leave Britain after the Battle of Culloden. They went to the New World for a fresh start. The Kaplans built villages that became a town with houses and businesses that eventually became a city that they protected and ruled. Their noble house grew rotten as greed and envy took over. Their 1st commandment was children were sacred they should be defended at all costs and should not be punished for their parents sins. This was strictly followed centuries until it wasn’t and the cost to the Kaplan family is great.
This book was hard for me to get into at first. But a few chapters in and I was hooked. Sometimes the story gets a little confusing but rights itself quickly. A nice read.
This is not what I expected. This is a brand new universe. This Book really took me by surprise. It's going to be interesting to see where this Kaplan family is going. So many characters and couples whose stories need to be told. Complicated inner relationships that are going to come to light. Looking forward to what is going to happen next.
A new series with a new clan that has beautiful Celtic rituals, a loving family, hidden enemies within the clan, greed, need of power and secrets that hide great sufferings. Members of the clan that were lost came through with a new identity, new purpose to right the wrongs, betrayal at its finest in the name of greed and power. The innocent souls that tries to thrive, beautiful new connections of love and friendship, strong allies that tries to protect the innocent, and an exotic pet that will win your heart. I loved the intricacies, the intrigue, danger and the machinations of those desperate for power and attention, their tries for their moment of glory and how far they are capable of going to achieving. I loved the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next with our beloved characters.

Kaplan Chronicles is the first in an amazing new series by H.M. Wolfe. It chronicles a Scottish clan that was forced to leave Britain after the Battle of Culloden. The went to the New World and met resistance at first but they were industrious and built villages and eventually became someone substantial. They had commandments of their own, no harm to children, they were sacred. This is Aiden’s story. There is drama, danger, deceptions, lies, etc. Overall, this was a fantastic story!! Well written, kept me on the edge of my seat reading it!
I loved this book. The Kaplan family has put their heart and soul into the city of Chicago for nearly two centuries. They built the city piece by piece. They live by their own traditions and honor. There is one who seeks to destroy what they hold dear. Will they be able to band together and face the threat?
This Scottish family has been a dominating force in Chicago for years. Niall, the patriarch of the family realizes he has to fix what is wrong inside the family, before it is to late. Danger, intrigue, secrets, deceptions and lies. Maybe it can be unraveled before it's to late. Love the Celtic influence. Can't wait to read more. As,always I love the characters.
This is a great start to a new series. I love the premise that this Scottish clan came to America and started building what would become Chicago. What we learn in this alternate history drew me in and gave me a good sense of place. Then, as all the plots, schemes, intrigues and betrayals start to kick in I couldn't stop reading to find out about these characters and who would do what.
This is the first book in a brand new series. The Kaplans came to America and started to thrive by having great business sense. Unfortunately with riches comes greed by some. There is lots of intrigue, which keeps you on the edge of your seat. Loved it and cannot wait for the next book in the series.
