After revealing a big secret, Calamity James is on the outs with the one person she can always rely her sister. As the Red River Founders Celebration approaches, descendants of the town’s original settlers are mysteriously targeted for murder, and Cal hunts down a ghost with a grudge.
Alexandria Clarke is a writer, cat lover, and all-around optimist. She loves to immerse her readers in mystery and intrigue, meaningful friendships, and the worlds of characters who learn by doing. When she's not writing, Alex enjoys playing guitar, watching Wynonna Earp, and spending time with her family. She currently lives in Orlando, Florida with her partner and their four pets.
Damn you really aren't going to leave me hanging, are you????? This series was one of fun an funny laughter. The characters were outstanding, amazing and a lot of fun. A bang up job..
Well, I got this book without knowing that it was the fourth in a series *facepalm* And although I could follow the mystery well enough, I did miss a lot about the characters. That's not the book's fault, though, and to be honest, I now want to go and find the first three in the series to catch up.
It was a surprise as I'd read other books by Alexandria Clarke and they were poles apart from this. Not a criticism, at all. Just that I didn't expect this :P
The story is fascinating, the mystery rooted in the town's past, with many different points of view about what is real and what is just myth in the history of Red River. And I really liked Calamity. Yes, she might be a little of an acquired taste, but she seems to have good reasons to be who she is. And it's easy to see the heart hiding beneath all that rough exterior.
An excellent paranormal mystery, and, as I said before, I'll be reading more in this series. Preferably in the correct order :P
I did enjoy this book but with all the town history and the different versions it was a little hard to keep track of who everybody was. It's not my favourite in the series but is still worth a listen, especially as you learn more of why everybody in town hates Calamity or blames her. The characters, especially the ghosts continue to entertain and either help or hinder the investigations. The book continues on from the last book with Cal's sister not talking to her after the big secret has been relieved, although you don't need to have read the previous book to follow along as the author does a good job of bringing you up to date . The mystery was good (if a little complicated) and I had sort of guessed who was behind it, mainly because the character kept popping up and was never suspected. I hope there is another book in the series. With her sister not talking to her the last thing Cal needs is to investigate a case that is contacted to the founding fathers of the town. With each family heirloom that is stolen from the museum an attack on one of the ancestors remaining family members also accrues and as Cal's own family had a part to play in the town she and her sister could also be a target. Can she stop the next attack? And find the killer? Even if it means learning more about her own family history? And can she trust the town's ghost to help her where her sister won't? I liked the narrator. She is the right choice for Cal and her friends with her pleasant voice. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review
I can't believe I'm already on the fourth book of this series and so so sad that the next book isn't out yet. Wow this book was such a ride, I absolutely love reading about Red River's history and its founders, as well as meeting all the ghosts from the past. There is definitely a few shocking details/surprises in this book. The very last part of the book had me gasping!! When I first picked up the first book I definitely didn't think I would finish all four books within a week. I could not put these books down and boy am I glad I didn't because I was absolutely hooked! I'm dying to read the next book!
A Calamity James Paranormal Mystery books 1 thru 4! I can't remember putting them down!
I do remember lost sleep and enjoying unique characters with definitely a different approach to ghost phenomena! A little bit of ghost busters, a small amount of sympathy and understanding, a great big dose of reality check, handed out freely to the dead and confused! Than when needed a sharp edge of a magical dagger so they get the point! Well worth binging!
I first became acquainted with Alexandria Clarke's writing from the "Hauntings" series of books, and soon found that she was BY FAR the best writer of that entire series, so I searched her name in Kindle, and found THIS series, which is even better! I dearly hope to find more of her work!!!
Another winner. Kept me interested from beginning to end. Paranormal, mystery with interesting likeable characters. Ready for the next book please. Thanks for a fun very good read
I’ve been a fan of Calamity ever since I stumbled across her. I love the characters (repeats and new additions). The scene settings could be richer and more detailed, but they work. I enjoy the different plots that comes out of Calamity’s life.
This series is great! Cal interacts with ghosts. Her job with the police is based on her special abilities. Someone is killing the people in town. Aided by the ghost of one of them, Cal sets out to find the truth. I can’t wait to read the next one!
I really enjoy this series. The characters are fun and the story line is unique. The editing could be better but if you can overlook some writing mistakes this is a fun series and worth the read.
I’m not a “ghost person”, but I sure enjoyed this. Actually I think I need to read a few more of these, which really adds to my “stories to read” list. Thanks for good read.
Another excellent story, but I downgraded from a 5 to a 4 because Ms. Clarke needs to get a different proofreader. There were more proofreading errors than the other books and at one point the name "Dusty" was used instead of "Lucky."
Ok I didn't like how this one ends. Unless there is going to be more books in the series. If there is more books I can't wait for the next installment.
