Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nicole Snow returns with a howling funny office romance where two bitter insta-rivals stumble into the sweetest love.
It was one little dare with razor-sharp teeth—work for him. Yes, he's a fire-breathing grump and gazillionaire bachelor. Yes, I just gave him an ego check he'll never forget. Yes, he's still offering me the job dreams are made of.
But Cole Lancaster is the stuff of bossy nightmares. Too handsome for real life. Big Coffee kingpin. Guarded papa bear. His precious daughter is the only reason he ever stops grumping for five seconds. I'm sure I can deal with his scowls and cutting glances for one huge payday.
Only, sometimes your best assumptions are dead wrong. Like the business trip to paradise that shows me a different Cole. A man with a beating heart and a billion-dollar smile. A master of soul-stealing kisses. A mess of secrets that leave me reeling.
I wish my taste in men didn't match my coffee. Strong, steamy, and unspeakably complicated. When I took the job, I didn't know the risks. What if one crazy dare means falling in love?
Full-length enemies-to-lovers office romance with slow-burn sizzle. Witness one commanding single dad become so enchanted with the hellion he can't stand that he'll do everything to keep her forever.

I had to talk through this book with a friend. The beginning was great but about 60% through the book I was questioning if I was reading about the same characters. The heroine changed so dramatically. A sassy heroine basically turned high school girl insecure. There was also some serious hinting going on about the intrigue in the story and I felt like yelling, “I get it!” By end I just wanted to be done with the story…not even looking forward to the extra chapter offered. The three stars are for the enemies to lovers beginning with all the sass and the steam was good.
I have some issues with this book that range from writing and development of the story to the characters, and I can not comprehend how it has such high ratings!?:
What type of language is this? I understand the novel in contemporary, but does that mean the book has to be written with such garbled and busy language?
It was confusing at times to follow the 'young and cool banter' due to this need to give incredibly ridiculous pet names, nicknames, and insults every two sentences.
OK, so now on to the characters:
Eliza is immature, rude, and annoying. She's supposed to be funny and charming. Her background story had no depth, no struggle, and no challenge. It is not clear what she studied or how she magically has come to be the best coffee "concoctioner" ever to live. There really isn't much mention of her professional achievements. There's also this need to throw comments and criticisms around just for the sake of it. She's obnoxious. She has no backbone and lets other people's opinions influence her decisions more than making up her mind on her own. If her best friend, the poet, is really her best friend, why is she asking her why she moved to Seattle. And she gives her a totally bogus reason about opening a coffee shop, even though by her own admission, there are hundreds of those already in Seattle. (This also made me wonder if the author wrote this for first-time readers since there is a lack of ability to transition into giving information about a character in a subtle way). 🤔
-Also, if you don't fit in into Cole's world, (all of this in her head, as she is too immature to actually ask him), then try figuring out what exactly is it that makes you feel that way and discuss it with the person you are interested in. NO? why bother, right? Is better to ramble on for 20 pages about how he is going to disappoint you like the other guy, even though it has been amply discussed and demonstrated that Cole is NOTHING like the other person.
Lastly, she quits the best well-paid job because of a man!!!! And this, to me was the most infuriating thing she did! So what if you had a fight with the guy and he called your neighbourhood trashy!? You're supposed to be a professional, capable of making life changing decisions with your head! And don't even get me started with the worst most unprofessional resignation letter I have ever seen! I actually cringed when she said she CCed people on that!
Cole: He's supposed to be a coffee kingpin? 🤷🏾♀️. He has no family, no friends, and is all supposed to be because of what happened.
The story starts off alluding to something sad and dark and tragic that happened to him. With all this mentioning of this mystery at 22% of the book, one would expect something big. Nope... Is just that his wife died in -albeit mysterious circumstances, but nothing else! So people who inherit a "dinasty" and come from billionaire families are usually surrounded by said family. They're also super traditional and family oriented. I thought after he had lost his wife, his parents died in a horrific accident.. no, no, nothing as exciting and entertaining as that.... The book just doesn't mention why he is seemingly an only child, has no mother, no uncles or aunts. Just a dad who apparently died three years prior. Why?! Who knows! Maybe it was better to ramble for 25 to 50 pages about a necklace you don't remember buying your dead wife, only to come to the end of the book and still not know who the hell bought the necklace!!!!!
Also, what type of educated billionaire speaks in such a way? No eloquent speech. No, just curse words and all kinds of masculine stereotypes. All the time! Who calls a woman lady constantly?
I am usually not so opinionated, but this book just got me. It was confusing and needlessly long. It had so much potential, but it never saw it through. A real letdown.

This book is a caffeinated dream! Side-splitting enemies-to-lovers laughs, steamy nights that made me blush, and one big single dad grumping all over the place. Coffee kingpin Cole Lancaster and Eliza are total opposites who reluctantly team up to make some really awesome coffee after he drops one wild dare on her. She's sunshine and he's a stormcloud. He's a damaged mess and she's a dreamer. The sparks are off the charts and the chemistry is so wrong it's right. Nicole Snow has outdone herself with this new feel-good office romance hit! Read now while it's Free with Kindle Unlimited.
Holy Moly talk about everything you'd ever want in a book, this is it! Cover lovers read this asap. Who doesn't love the feeling like they just jumped into a cup of flavorful coffee or watching someone roast some beans and create more deliciousness?! I do I do.
This is one grumpy billionaire boss which is a first for me to read about. The slow burn of this romance is outstandingly heaven. We all love a strong, confident woman who can stand her ground and then realize her hate and anger towards her boss is just filled with heat and desire. Enjoy the amazing HEA of novel you'll never want to end.
Eliza makes her own coffee recipes, and they're amazing - she really should be doing something with those flavors, the blends she makes. Then the grumpiest asshole walks into the coffeeshop where she's just been judging her friend's coffeemaking, and intrigues and pisses her off when he insults her friend. He may have tried to tell her he was the owner of the coffee chain, but it didn't really matter, he was still a jerk. A gorgeous jerk, but a jerk nonetheless. So why does she take him up on his outrageous offer to come work in his lab, creating delicious coffee? Why would she work for such a grump? Not because he has the most amazing, snarky teenaged daughter, and happens to be hotter than the hottest cup of coffee she's ever tasted?
Fun, snarky, witty grumpy/sunshine enemies to lovers with a hefty dose of heat, some suspense, and the most adorable teen, ever. One Bossy Dare is the kind of enemies to lovers I like best, with 2 lovable characters, even though it took me awhile to warm up to Mr. Grumpypants. All the heat, all the feels, and COFFEE!! What more could you ask for in a story?

From he description I thought this was going to be a cute little story about a billionaire coffee heir who meets his match with an up-and-coming coffee roaster/barista. It is. But in the middle of the book Ms Snow takes us down this dark murder mystery side bar and the whole plot twist was unnecessary and honestly boring. I couldn’t get through it fast enough. I guess some readers will like the suspense in the middle of a book marked as a romantic comedy but it ruined the story for me, it wasn’t necessary and dragged the book out. If those shenanigans hadn’t been in here - this would be a four-star read.
DNF @ 68% Too many books, too little time to read them all. DNFing this bc I’m not invested and there are no stakes and the plot twist was predictable. The FMC has no personality besides coffee and the MMC seems to only want to be around the girl when he wants to get laid. No emotional connection at all. Pass 🤷🏻♀️
I am reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
Eliza is a caffeine addicted dreamer who dreams of one day having her own little place of heaven, her very own coffee shop where she is the creator of special blends, living from short term job to short term job. She was enjoying a cup of coffee at her friend’s coffee shop the day that she meets Cole, but things become heated between them when he verbally assassinates Wayne and there is no way that she was going to stand idly by and let it continue. But Eliza and her own special blend make an impression and Cole decides that he will do what ever it takes to have her come work for her, and with the kind of money she can make helping him develop a new blend her dream looks to be closer than she could believe. But when more than just coffee is developing between who will get burned in the heat of the moment, or is this a perfect blend for life?
Cole has two loves in his life his coffee empire and his fifteen year old daughter Destiny, visiting one of the outlets he learns that there is something missing with the current blends that they have to offer and vents his frustration only to be called out by Eliza, a woman he discovers later knows more about the brew than he does and offers her friend and his employee a ten grand bonus if he can get her to contact him about a job. There is something about Eliza that has him hooked in a way that he never expected and the way that she gets on with his daughter is something special. But with a misunderstanding could this be over before it started?
As always Ms. Snow delivers a book with heart and soul, watching Cole and Eliza develop had me hooked and the growing relationship between them and Destiny was something special. The banter in this book was spot-on and I cannot recommend any of her books highly each one becomes my new favorite. 5* Read
I can’t believe this actually turned into a fricking murder/thriller romance in the last 35% wild. like I saw it coming like it was being set up for that but it was also so out of left field
ok also,, just because someone saves your life from an axe-wielding murderer does not mean you have to forgive them for treating you like shit 2 weeks earlier
Somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. This was pretty good. I really enjoyed the first 70%. The banter was wonderful, the steam was on point. I liked the characters, Eliza and Cole make a great couple and Destiny is adorable. It was instalust, and there is forbidden romance going on too since he becomes her boss. I also really loved learning more about coffee, it spoke to my addiction to caffeine beautifully.
It started to fall apart a little for me, as usual it seems, in the third act. Cole acts like a complete ass, Eliza starts acting like an insecure teenager instead of a 26 year old “honey badger”. Then it turns into a full blown thriller, which I saw coming but it was a bit much. I wish I saw them talk through their stuff more. You never see Eliza explain to Cole why she is so insecure about being with him, and he never goes into depth with her about what he’s gone through. Maybe they do in the time jumps, but I wanted to see them really work through what drove them apart. Instead it’s instant forgiveness once he plays action hero, but they fall apart again in the aftermath before they finally get themselves together. It got so frustrating and stupid. Also, as always, I wish there was a little less emphasis on how hot they find each other and a little more on what makes them tick.
The ending is sweet though, and overall the writing kept me engaged and wanting to know what happens.
„I’ve met feral raccoons less frustrating than you.”
i like books where there’s a focus on something specific about the story which in this case the whole coffee thing was great and it kinda made sense like the author wasn’t just pulling things out of their ass. but i might not know a lot of things about coffee so yeah. and i really liked the story behind how it all started that eliza was so obsessed with coffee it was such a sweet thing.
the characters… you see. his outbursts at times were so weird. like the character switch up from times to times? felt like his character wasn’t consistent and the author was making him act irrationally just to stir some drama? i don’t know but that’s what it felt like. like i’m talking about f.e. his behavior at the beginning of the book AND THEN
„My boss is a big softie. He doesn’t scare me — not much — I just like doing things right,” she whispers, tracing my jaw with her finger.
something is not adding up. AND I KNOW people like change their attitude when they are in love and towards their person, but the switch-up just felt bizzare.
the whole thing with troy… boy was i stressed. the moment he first interacted with eliza you could feel something was wrong. it was so evident.
My gut is telling me more like 2 1/2 stars, I was trying to feel the connection in chemistry between the MCs, but it was all sexual. Is that bad? It’s a book, no. The plot twist was just predictable, and felt like it was thrown in for good measure.
I mean, honestly the book did start out cute and funny, and then started going downhill .
One thing I can assure you, I was SO over the MMC’s use of the the word brat to describe his daughter and the FMC. 🙄
Not even interested in the bonus chapter at the end . I’ve read better by this author.
- hot - wasn’t really interested in the beginning - THE PLOT. THE FUCKING PLOT. - i don’t know if i will remember the characters… but the plot? FUCKING YEAH (i think i’m traumatized)
This book was so much fun!!! I loved it all! The characters had the best chemistry and put up a fight for their mutual attraction!!! Gotta love that! Nicole never disappoints when it comes to a great read!! Please read this one!! You won't be disappointed!!!.

I have read several books by this author but I'm sorry to say I like any of them. I can not get interested. I don't care for the plot or the boring characters. I don't like like her style orq
This might be the next bestseller by this amazing author. Again, I am at a loss for words for her masterful writing.
Crankyface aka Grumpfather aka Cole Lancaster and Eliza's story is every bit as intense, emotional and suspenseful as any of Ms. Snow's other stories, or rather more of everything, and so heartbreaking it tore my heart apart.
I can't begin to tell you how much I love these two protagonists and Cole's smart-ass daughter Destiny, they are everything you would expect from perfect characters and a whole lot more. They are all broken by their pasts for different reasons, but fit together so perfectly.
The twists and turns, although I had a slight sense of foreboding, and the slowly building tension of the story had me hooked from the first page and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, either laughing out loud, gritting my teeth, or bawling my eyes out. I loved every little detail of this story, every little description of the characters or the landscape, because they made everything so lifelike, almost tangible, that it played out in my mind's eye like a movie.
And it wouldn't be a book by Ms. Snow without the priceless banter and hilarious and sharp-tongued exchanges between the main characters that make this story pretty darn entertaining! Grumpy-naire and Coffee Nerd's story is definitely my new favorite in this grumpalicious Bossy Seattle Suits series, something I thought was impossible after One Bossy Proposal.
Eliza is minding her own business, enjoying a cup of coffee when she finds herself in a battle of wills which includes some choice words, with the most handsome, arrogant Neanderthal/Man she's ever met. But it's Eliza that leaves the lasting impression. When Cole meets Eliza, their confrontation is epic but he's up for the challenge. Cole is the CEO of Wired Cup, a well known coffee chain known for their special roasts. He's also a single father to 15 year old Destiny. Eliza is a connoisseur of coffee and makes her own special blends, and after learning this, Cole hires her to work for him. Eliza and her talents are what Wired Cup needs to take it into the future. Very soon after, Cole realizes he needs Eliza, not only in his company, but in his personal life as well....it just takes him a little longer to come to terms with that. He has heavy responsibilities, being CEO of such a large company and raising his daughter. Cole needs saving and Eliza needs a man she can depend on. If they could just figure their $#!? out, they'd be unstoppable. I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK!!! THE CHARACTER'S, EVEN SOME FROM OTHER BOOKS, ARE FLAWED AND RELATABLE! I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN, I NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!!! ONCE AGAIN, NICOLE HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK!!! A FANTASTIC, MUST READ!!!
Cole is trying to balance his demanding career as the CEO of a coffee company with being a single father to his teenage daughter Destiny. A spirited interaction with a client at one of his coffee shops has him intrigued and inspired especially once he tastes one her coffee blends and now he needs to convince her to work for him.
Eliza has dreams for the future and Cole might be the man to help her reach them if only he wasn’t so cantankerous. Their relationship is more adversarial than professional but all it will take is one business trip for her to see past his demeanor and that’s when things really become interesting.
Cole still bears regret and guilt for his past and Eliza is the first person, besides his daughter, to make him feel for a long time. The characters are captivating, the interactions between them humorous, it still has all the feels and theirs is a story you won’t be able to put down.
My biggest gripe with this series is how long these books are. It makes me not want to read them even though I know I will love it.
As per usual through, I loved it. This is just like all my favorite things in a book. Enemies to lovers, snappy dialogue, hot sex, a dramatic break up, extreme male suffering and then eventual groveling, life threatening danger for mcs. Chef kiss.
Probably my favorite of this series but I’ve loved them all.
Took me a while to finish the book since I am not an english native speaker and the language used in the book was quite busy and hard to understand. Usually I dont have such problem but this books was difficult.
However, I really like the chemistry, story, banter and steamy scenes.
Bossy Grumpy Boss. Sexy Single dad. COFFEE!?! What could be better in this steamy enemies to lovers romance. Nicole Snow once again brings the heat and the feels in her latest book. You'll laugh, you'll swoon and you'll go back and read her other books so you can stay in her world a little longer. Five out of Five stars all the way!
Romans biurowy – odhaczony. Slow burn – odhaczony. Motyw samotnego ojca – odhaczony. “Wyzwanie pachnące kawą” to według mnie kolejna książka warta uwagi.

I received this ebook ARC, from the author, on the condition that I write an honest review. I’ve read several books written by Nicole Snow, and she never fails to write books, that hold my full attention, from the first sentence, to the end. Her books always have great characters, with the best story. There is always a romance, between imperfect characters, that are perfect for each other. Her stories always include some angst, and suspense. Cole is a wealthy, widower, and CEO of a coffee company. He has raised his 15 year old daughter, for the last ten years. He is stressed, and grumpy, and totally dedicated to his daughter, and his job. Eliza is a young single woman working short term jobs just to survive. She is addicted to brewing flavorful coffee, to hopefully somehow get the money to open her own coffee shop. Eliza inadvertently interferes between a meeting of a local barista, and the CEO of the coffee shop. They trade insulting words, and almost cause the barista to get fired. Eliza has accidentally left a sample of her home brewed coffee at the table, and Cole loves the flavor. Cole hires Eliza to work in the lab, and develop new coffee flavors, but they constantly head butt. While on a business trip to Hawaii, they begin to get closer, and Eliza understands more about the sadness surrounding Cole. She bonds with Destiny, Cole’s daughter and helps her enjoy the beach, and the surrounding entertainment areas. An attack on Destiny causes some misunderstandings between Cole, and Eliza, and they breakup. Eliza gets caught up in a dangerous life threatening situation , and Cole saves her. After she heals from the incident, they finally talk everything out, and reunite. After a romantic proposal, they finally reach their HEA. The book ends in a heartfelt, romantic epilogue for the couple, and their surrounding family members. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and of course I highly recommend this book.
ONE BOSSY DARE is written around the fascinating world of crafted coffees with Eliza being something of an artist in roasting delicious concoctions of beans. She has an unfortunate first meeting with Cole, the CEO of his family’s coffee empire in Seattle.
Eliza is sassy, quirky and even infuriating at times. Somehow Cole is attracted to this but can’t fraternize with the employees (wink). He is his own breed of infuriating - he’s controlling, jumps to (wrong) conclusions and lives with guilt related to his wife’s death.
Eliza gets wrapped up in Cole’s coffee business, Cole’s teenage daughter and the demise of Cole’s wife. All is not as it seems and the suspense and intrigue surrounding the wife’s death in Hawaii triggers a series of unexpected events.
The romance between Cole and Eliza - who work together under a no fraternization policy (wink) - also impacts the mystery of Cole’s wife’s death. The couple has chemistry that they think they are hiding from everyone else. It is a good book for the romance and for the overall story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Seriously! Nicole Snow always WINS! I love that Nicole is still putting out books in the same world that we’ve been introduced to before. Interconnected standalones are my jam. 😈 We caught a glimpse of passionate coffee connoisseur, Eliza, in Dakota Poe & Lincoln Burns’ book, “One Bossy Proposal” and I’m so glad she got her own book and HEA! She’s feisty, and definitely not afraid to say what’s on her mind! Cole “Lump” Lancaster is the definition of daddy grump. He has a teen daughter, Destiny, who he only seems to smile for. The smut is hot, the romance is swoon-y, and the twist and turns will have you unable to put this book down until you’ve devoured it all!
3.5 stars Overall, I'm a fan of Nicole Snow and will absolutely be reading more of her books. Thu one just wasn't my favorite!
I wanted to love this book, but it feel short for me. (I really liked the action part of the story, but I don't want to give any spoilers! It redeemed the storyline a little with it's interesting scenes.)
A few things I noticed:
When the book changed to Cole’s POV about 1/3 of the way through, I felt that his entire demeanor changed. It felt inconsistent.
I missed some descriptive adjectives when they had conversations. I found the scenes rushed and I often had to reread to understand what happened.
My plan was to read this book over two days seeing it is quite lengthy. This was impossible! I stayed up long past my bedtime in order to see what was going to happen next.
This book had everything you want in a great book— romance, broken characters, a sassy teenager and a meant to be relationship. All of this was combined with some intrigue and suspense.
Great to revisit characters from previous stories too, and get hints of who might be next!.
