When a grouchy veteran rescues a cheerful hippie will it be a match made in heaven or a disaster waiting to happen?
When Army Ranger Jason Case accepts an invitation from his closest friend to join Resolution Ranch, the last thing he expected was to be a hero to Prairie’s resident hippie, Millie Prescott. He’s no hero, and he wants to be left alone.
Millie knows she and Jason have a cosmic connection – he saved her from certain death. There’s only one problem…
• He Loves Bacon – She Loves Tofu • He’s a hardened warrior – She’s a peacemaker • He’s the man of her dreams – She’s a thorn in his side
Neither Jason or Millie could have predicted the blistering heat that erupts between them, and in a moment of lust-fueled insanity, the grouchy vet agrees to help Miss Sunshine save her struggling vineyard and put Prairie on the map for heirloom wine.
But trouble comes to Prairie when Jason’s family decides they’ll stop at nothing to bring Jason back where he belongs, running the Case wine empire. And Jason must decide how far he’s willing to go to ensure the woman he’s fallen for doesn’t become collateral damage
Q&A About Resolution Ranch and the new Flint Hills Military Heroes Series Q: What inspired this spinoff? A: This spinoff was inspired by my relationship with Heroes & Horses, an organization in Montana that works with veterans. While this series focuses on veterans dealing with the aftermath of war, it's also about cowboys, ranching, and small-town life in the west. You'll still see your favorite characters from the Cowboys of the Flint Hills series.
Q: In what order should I read the books? A: Each book in the series is a standalone novel with an HEA. There is overlap with some of the incidents in the Cowboys of the Flint Hills books. While they can be read in any order, I recommend they be read in the order of publication.
Tessa Layne is a five-time USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance across many genres. Known for her high heat "emotionally searing and uplifting" story lines, Tessa’s books take you on an adventure of the heart from the rugged and remote Kansas Flint Hills to the big-city boardroom. Additional pen names include TS Layne (billionaires) and coming in 2024, Tessa Snow (dark fantasy romance). Tessa lives in the heart of the Rocky Mountains with her husband, daughters, and two unruly cats. When she’s not writing, you can find her outside chatting up the bees in her garden, hunting for berries in the woods, or playing in the snow.
This is a steamy, entertaining, well written contemporary romance. It has likable, engaging characters, a wounded war hero, a free spirit heroine, wine making, supportive friends, family drama and a happily ever after ending. This is the fourth entry in Ms. Layne's Resolution Ranch series, and can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. I am looking forward to reading the other novels in this series with great anticipation.
I love the message behind A Hero's Home. Tessa Layne has created two characters who couldn't be more different, but there's a beauty in their uniqueness. Jason is adjusting to civilian life after serving his country. Millie has a spirit that is free, but a heart that's lost. Theirs is a mismatch made in heaven.
This one didn't do it for me. The beginning started with Jason who I immediately didn't like so maybe that has something to do with my feelings on the rest of it. It got a bit better when Millie was first introduced but then just went downhill again. I didn't like the way Jason acted towards Millie and thought their first steamy scene happened way too soon.
A Hero’s Home is the fourth book in the Resolution Ranch series, set within the Cowboys of Flint Hills world. Millie has a reputation in town as being a hippie, but when she kisses a stranger, she knows she’s met her soul mate! Jason just wanted to run his errands to help out the ranch when he saves Millie from a fall, and while he’s drawn to her lightness, they are complete opposites. Millie and Jason fight what could be so good, but when he offers to help with her wine, do they stand a chance at finding happiness?
Oh this book was so sweet and fun and with the perfect amount of steam! I loved Millie and Jason! They had plenty of differences, like the whole tofu vs bacon, but they also were exactly what each other needed, a balm to their souls. Millie was so in tune with who she was, and I loved that she was able to tell instinctively what others needed. Jason was so wounded by what happened to him as a soldier and what happened to him with his family, but I loved that he was able to slowly open up some of these wounds to let Millie help him heal. I liked the drama towards the end with Jason’s family’s involvement, but I was really drawn to Millie and Jason’s relationship, their ups and downs, and their falling in love. This is an amazing series, this book can stand alone, and if you’re looking for some cowboy heroes, this is the series and book for you!
I love the Resolution Ranch series because it emphasizes the need for a place where veterans can go to meet each other, share stories and feelings, work the land and feel as if they are part of a group. Jason Case is a wounded veteran who comes from a wealthy Napa Valley wine family who he is estranged from. His real family had always been the Army but after he was wounded and discharged, he had nowhere to go until he arrived at Resolution Ranch, where he found peace and a new purpose in life. He doesn’t have time for romance because he knows all too well what women think about amputees, and he hates to see their disgust and pity. He was better off alone.
Millie Prescott is a free spirited, carefree young woman who believes in fate, destiny and everlasting love. She wears long, flowy skirts, peasant tops, silver bracelets and drives a vintage VW bus. Some people call her a hippie which doesn’t bother her, because she is happy with who she is and life is good. She runs Moonbeam Acres with her father where they make homemade soap, salt scrubs, wine and candles which she sells at her organic store. Her mother was the heart and soul of the farm and when she died Millie vowed to continue running the farm in her memory. Millie hopes to meet her soulmate someday, a man who would work beside her on the farm, share her love of the land and love her unconditionally.
Will Jason find what he is looking for at the ranch and will that include finding room in his heart for love?
Will Millie’s dream come true and will her positive outlook on life result in a love she never saw coming?
“A Hero’s Home” is uplifting, whimsical, romantic and heartfelt. You can’t help loving Millie with her beautiful smile, bright blue eyes and engaging personality. She is always so happy and I found myself smiling right along with her throughout the book. My eyes teared up when Jason agonized over how his life had turned out and how much he missed his buddies who hadn’t come home. Tessa has given us another amazing story and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
Army Ranger Jason Case lost his leg and watched his buddy bleed out while serving as an Army Ranger. These tragic events have kept him from being close to people, especially women. Although his family own a famous winery, he wants nothing to do with the winery or his family and moves to Resolution Ranch. Millie Prescott has been living in Prairie, Kansas since she was a child. She loves her family’s farm, Moonbeam Acres, and is used to being called a hippie by some of the locals. She is not a hippie, but loves living a healthy lifestyle and being in tune with nature. When she first meets Jason, she knows he is the one for her. The attraction between them is immediate and HOT, but will he let her in to his heart? He will agree to help her with her wine making, but is determined to keep his distance. Will he be able to be near Millie and not fall in love with her? When his family decides to intervene in his life with Millie, he will do all that he can to protect her and her farm. I enjoyed the way Millie gently encouraged Jason to let go of the past and look toward the future…their future. This is book number four in the “Flint Hills Military Heroes” series. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
A Hero's Home is book 4 in the Flint Hills Military Heroes series by Tessa Layne and again she shows us how hard it is for our military men and women when they return to civilian life. In this book we see how hard it is to accept how after losing a part of his right leg, Jason Case decides that Resolution Ranch is a better fit for moving on instead of returning to the family winery...that is until he meets Millie Prescott, Prairie's resident "hippy" and amateur wine maker. Seems Millie believes fate has brought him to Prairie to find the love of his life..Her...and to help her make a wine that will but both the town and her wine on the map!! Jason doesn't believe her "cosmic fate" but he does know wine making and decides he will help her out but wants no strings...except there are sparks that he can't explain.
Is Millie right that fate has brought her soulmate, someone one to help put her wine on the map, and have her HEA or is it just wishful thinking?
The ARC of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review. I have read a few books by this author and really enjoy the world she has created. Although it is part of a series, you do not necessarily need to read the prior books to enjoy the story.
This is the story of Jason Case and Millie Prescott. They meet as Jason, a wounded veteran, is trying to help with a benefit for the Resolution Ranch and Millie literally falls into his arms. From the beginning they have a big spark! Even with the differences between their personalities, they have an instant attraction and are pulled together.
This author does a great job of bringing these two characters together and shows an interesting perspective to handle their issues and problems. One of the big issues is Jason’s physical injuries from the war, and the response Millie comes up with for his amputation was fantastic. It made me see how they were really meant for each other. Really enjoyed the book and will now look to possibly go back and read others in this series or the prior ones!!
Romance trope: opposites attract Series: Heroes of the Flint Hills Length: 170 pages
Plot: Jason is one of the former military men working at Travis's ranch. He's no-nonsense and practical and believes that he's missed out on a lot of the good things in life - like love - and there's nothing to be done about it. Millie is a local shopkeeper and winemaker and she is the exact opposite. She believes in miracles and mysteries and soulmates. But Jason's worried that Millie won't love him once she sees all of him, and a few clumsy words on his part will lay bare Millie's insecurities.
Commentary: It's not hard to see how Jason might be a little bitter about relationships, considering his injury and his fiancee's reaction. I wonder if that's not what kept him from proposing for so long (without even mentioning it or talking to Millie or her father about it). Millie was sweet, if a bit kooky, but it seems that Jason eventually liked that about her. I loved that all the characters from other books were involved - the whole town showed up to help (and then protect, later at the competition) Millie.
Jason Case does not feel like a whole man any longer. As a leg amputee, a man who has lost some of the men from his military brotherhood, and the black sheep of his family, he moves the the Flint Hills to help at Resolution Ranch.
He's decided that no women will ever want a man who isn't while so he closes himself off to women.
Millie Prescott is a unique women and when the Universe enters Jason into her path she uses the Life Force to move forward. But, her quirky personality enthralls Jason like no one else.
Millie has been trying to make wine and enlists the help of Jason since he comes from the family of one of the best wineries in California.
Can Millie and Jason get past their issues of the past and their ferment their love?
Tessa Layne has made me fall in love with this series and am always excited every time she releases a new book. Can't wait to see whose story she will write next.
Touching Story of Love and Acceptance in Flint Hills!!
Jason came home from his tour as an Army Ranger as what he considered half a man having lost half his right leg. Agreeing to work at Resolution Ranch has gotten him away from his condescending and controlling family. When he meets free spirit Millie, electricity sparks each time they are near each other. This rigid military man should provide no draw to this tofu-loving woman who harvests her grapes at full-moon to provide greater life-force in the end result.
The growth of this relationship is emotional and sizzling. Jason does not believe he is lovable, Millie is a force to be reckoned with in all positive aspects. Jason promises Millie to assist with the harvest, but what will happen afterward?
Poignant, sizzling story of struggle, recovery and the power of love. This series continues to be excellent!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Once again, Tessa Layne writes a book that grabs you and won't let you go. Her characters are so real. I went to Vermont this past weekend and I swear I could see a little of Jason and Millie in everyone. This book was sent to me as an arc for my voluntarily & honest review.
Jason and Millie come from such different backgrounds. Jason is an Army Ranger Vet who comes home with a hardened heart and feeling less than a whole man. Millie is a free spirit who believes in destiny. Will their love survive? I know one thing.....the chemistry these two have is off the charts. They need each other like they need air to breathe and food to live. Grab this book and enjoy as their journey to destiny unfolds.
This story and all of Tessa's books have great lessons in love, humility, compassion, honesty, and trust. The men and woman on and around Resolution Ranch have taught me so many things. Thank you Tessa for sharing your love for our Military men and women.
I'm really glad that Jason & Millie's story was brought to us.
I can't give this my normal 5 stars for Tessa's work unfortunately. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of conflict, a climax that really never was, and the rushed feel of this story.
Jason & Millie are sizzling. Their love is fast and fierce. True soulmates..... they are the kind of people I'd love to meet. To hang out with. To debate the universe and how we fit....
There was so much potential in the attempt at conflict. The struggles with family, the legal questions that loom, & the rushed solutions that should have caused more then a few timeline hours of hesitation.
This story was short. Shorter than usual. There was room for the much needed conflict.
Would I recommend it to friends? Yes, and I have.... but I recommend that the books be read in order so that this one holds more substance. It made more sense to me having already learned a bit about these characters from previous releases.
Millie runs the organic grocery store, she and her father own and operate Moonbeam Acres. An organic farm and vineyard.
When Jason Case comes to Resolution Ranch his intention is to work with the cattle, horses and the other veterans who come to find their way. He has kissed the wine business good-bye. There's plenty of others in his family to take over Case Wineries.
Now Sterling has assigned him to pick up items for the silent auction, taking place after the fund-raising concert. One of the baskets is from Millie and includes a case of her wine.
At the fundraiser Sterling the instigator goads Jason into trying her homemade wine. Now he's promised to help her improve her wine.
Yeah, Jason has a problem named Millie, but he's not sure he minds at all.
This book was lots of fun, watching these two kind of battle it out, yet so steamy when they come together.
The problems start with a plant, wine, and Case's family.
How can two people who are complete opposites desire and crave each other so much.
Jason is a man who is basically living in a shell. Since his accident he hasn't felt the need or desire to start dating. He is afraid one look at his leg and they would run screaming from him. Then one afternoon, after saving a woman from falling he is instantly drawn to her in a way he can't explain.
Millie was a really fun character to read about. She was called a hippie in the book and in some ways she really was but yet her love of life and seeing something bigger than her was fun to read about. It was also really fun to read about how straight and narrow Mr science was in compared to full moon/dancing in the moonlight Millie was.
I really like this series and thought this book was a great addition to it.
This is a story that will touch your hearts. Jason Case, former Army Ranger, is now in Resolution Ranch helping a friend and also searching for some peace. After losing his leg in battle, he feels half of a man. One that is unlovable and not good enough. Millie Prescott , owner of an organic market, is a free spirit. Loves life, and her Dad, while struggling in her wine making attempts. The chemistry when they meet is intense but even as the relationship develops, Jason doesn’t give her all of himself. It’s a story about family support or lack thereof. It’s also about the struggles faced upon their return, by the brave men and women who put their lives in jeopardy to give us our freedom. Lastly, it’s a story about hope, new beginnings and finding one’s soulmate. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Hidden Gems. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is the only book in the series I have read, I would have preferred to read the prior books to get a complete insight into the ranch. Millie believes that fate brought her soulmate to her in the form of Jason Case. Jason is a veteran with depression and feels half a man after losing his leg.
Jason, the black sheep of a wine making family is hiding at resolution ranch and Millie enlists his help to help with her wine-making even though he disapproves of her methods. When Jason’s family comes visiting and starts trouble, he offers to save Millie and her vineyard from his money hungry family.
It was a sweet love story with a twist. The characters were well developed and I really enjoyed the story. I can’t wait for his 3 horrible brothers’ stories hopefully love makes them more likeable.
Tessa Layne did it again and put a book out there that goes beyond just healing. Jason has harded his heart afther the death of a friend and losing his leg. He feels like he's half a man. Millie is the towns hippie who lives by the land. Jason takes a job at Resolution Ranch and while they are getting ready for a celabration, he offers to pick up the baskets for the silent auction. When he goes to pick up the basket at Millie's place he is lost for words. Jason family are a rich family out for blood with themselves and others. Will Millie get Jason's help with her vineyard and wine? Can she break down Jason's barrier? Can Jason find himself and realize he is the same person? Can Jason protect Millie from his family wrath? I recieved an arc copy for my honest review.
A Hero's Home ( A Resolution Ranch Story and Book 4 of the Flint Hills Military Heroes series) by Tessa Layne. This is Jason Case and Millie Prescott's story.
Millie and Jason's story grabbed my attention from the beginning to the end. This is one of my favorites by this author. I really enjoyed their story. It was fun watching their relationship develop. I loved catching up with old friends from the previous stories in this series too.
Jason and Millie's characters are so different but they are perfect for each other. This was a heartwarming, fun, and steamy read. If you need and escape, this is story is perfect. This read will make you laugh, sigh, and just feel good.
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jason and Millie have an instant attraction, but don't seem to click. Jason is working at Resolution Ranch and is done with his family's wine business, but that doesn't stop him from offering to help Millie with her vineyard. He is still dealing with his life after service and she is a free spirited sort, they seem to be total opposites in everything. She runs Moonbeam with her father and sells soap and wine at her organic store. Jason doesn't believe in the unscientific processes that she uses for her wine and thinks a lot her ideas are out there and ridiculous. She just wants to meet her soulmate and have him work on the farm with her, but is Jason her perfect match or just a red hot spark to pass the time? A great read that invites you into the lives of the characters.
I have always been (and probably will always be) a sucker for a military hero. Give him a heart of gold and a tragic backstory and I’m a complete goner. Jason fits this description to a ‘T’. He’s a wounded veteran with a family dynamic that would make an award-winning soap opera proud. And not in any kind of good way. Millie is light and effervescent. Her holistic outlook, while being totally opposite to what he knows, is a balm to his weary soul. There’re a lot of big emotions in this story as this pair navigates meshing their very different styles to try to make a relationship work. This was the first book set in Prairie that I’ve read and I will be backtracking to read the ones I’ve missed. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems Book.
If ever there were two total opposites it's certainly Jason and Millie. 🤣💖
Jason is ex-military and not looking for any relationship of any kind, who come from "the" winemaking family in the US. Millie is a modern day hippie who has been making wine using biodynamic practices, or in other words... "infusing the grapes with your energy and life-force.” With so many differences between them, you would think they wouldn't have a chance. You would be wrong. The instant attraction between them is sizzling and they are really good at communicating with each other. 💕💗🔥💕
This book had me laughing out loud and fanning myself, it was so good! 😍
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
I didn't check the length before I started reading this, but I flew right through this book. I have to say, without giving any spoilers, this had one of the best meetings for the first time with these two! Even though this is part of a series, it's written as a stand-alone - you won't be lost. I've missed a book or two along the way, so there were some familiar characters, but there were others that I didn't know, but it didn't compromise the story. this was a nice little a tory and I hope to see more of Jason and Millie soon. My only complaint was that the author used the P word a little too much for me. just my personal preference
Jason is a difficult man. He is ashamed of his injured and he blamed himself for losing his partner when in the military. Millie is kind of a hippie woman who believes in the cycles of the moon and spirits. She runs a small vineyard and makes wine, though the results are not very good. I like how Millie’s personality changes Jason a bit. He is too worried about being half a man just because he lost one leg in a mission. He is dark, hard and sad. However, she is just the opposite, pure light that illuminates everything and everybody. I like the mystery about the vines, although in the end, it is not very clear the reason of it. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
First book in this series I have had the chance to read. Second book by Tessa. I enjoyed this one as much as the first one I read. Fast paced amazing storyline. One broken man who is afraid to love and one hippie woman who would do anything for her dream. I loved Jason and Millie. Amazing chemistry between these two you can easily see from the beginning. I absolutely love how they build each other up through everything. Tessa did a great job with this storyline. Can't wait to read more from this series.
This was a sweet and delicate romance, with steamy notes and mysterious undertones. Mille is a charm and kooky resident of Flint Hills and runs an organic store and is working on producing a local wine - definitely a kooky proposition in Kansas!
Jason is an ex Veteran with a dark past with his injury from his time in the military and his difficult family situation, but a history within the wine industry, so has agreed to help Millie. It is more than just the grapes that grow and sweeten. A beautiful romance and an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Jason and Millie had surprisingly good chemistry. Based on Jason's family relationship and his injury, it was nice to see him find a soft place to land with Millie. Millie had such an inner strength along with a touch of vulnerability, but they made it work.
The vineyard and winery was also an interesting addition to the storyline.
A sweet, steamy, yet sensual romance that also has that small town feel of love, loyalty, friendship, and family.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book received via Hidden Gems.
Received a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review... I'm so glad I picked up this book to read from Hidden Gems. Tessa Layne is a new to me author and this series, Resolution Ranch, is a great series if this book is a good example. Jason and Millie's relationship was destined to be....according to Millie. These two could not be more opposites and that is what makes these two work. The book is a quirky, well paced, easy read, filled with fun, steam, and a little heart string pulling. Well done!!
Tessa Layne has come up with another incredible story it is a well developed story with some very intriguing characters. A Hero’s Home is a story about two very different individuals she is all about peace and love everything healthy and He is a soldier who is a bit on the grumpy side and just wants to be left alone, but one problem there is for certain a crazy amount of heat when they are together. I absolutely loved and highly recommend this great book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
