Bryanna, the captive and Kian, the captor have many things to overcome but can they come together to achieve it?
A Prince by Blood and Bone by Jessica Ash is the second in the Tales of the Black Court Series and was a fun mixed fairy tale retelling with some spice and I’m here for it! After the disappearance of Trina, her family members who got away, Bryanna, her sister, and mother are all searching for her while also running from the queen. Cassie, Bryanna’s sister, had a vision telling them to leave now and so their mom gets a portal opened and somewhere in the process of escaping, they got split up. Bryanna ended up in the home of Prince Kian, the fae who’s been locked away by his mom, the queen for the past 15 years. He decided to keep her as a somewhat prisoner, and made her use her magic to help him. She didn’t think she could do it and wanted to escape from him since he is the part of the family that has been trying to kill her. But, even though they are in a not so friendly predicament, they both seem to have some attraction for each other. Will their irresistible attraction for one another change the relationship or will Bryanna be a prisoner and given over to the queen?
I really loved this side of the story. It was great seeing things from another's perspective. It was like a B story to the original novel but as its own entity. The fact that it was happening at the same time as Trina’s experience made it fall more so into that B story situation, which was very cool. This was my first time reading a sequel designed like this. Fantastic!
I loved seeing more of the gifts from the family of witches. I was wondering what everyone else could do. It was brought up slightly in the previous novel, so having it laid out more here was so satisfying. It was also cool to see how connected everyone was. We were introduced to some of the characters in book one, but didn’t have much detail about them. But here, things were elaborated while still having the same central villain.
The characters’ internal conflicts were so mirrored, it felt inevitable for them to come together. They balanced each other out and also needed each other to actually try to achieve their goals, whether they happened or not. Jessica was able to lay out the conflicts beautifully. They were so layered yet unraveled easily. In addition to their connection, their steamy connection was hot! After reading these two, I feel like I’m starting to have a thing for these elves haha.
The only thing that stuck out for me was the overall story concept for Bryanna and Kian. It felt very similar to Trina and Logan’s experience, but with a slight twist. For example, a witch is held against her will by a dangerous creature and ends up falling for them.
There’s no need to read the first but I’d highly recommend reading it first, to get the full backstory to what’s happening. Just as with the previous novel, this is totally for you if you love reading fairy tale retellings! This one has an added bonus by combining various fairy tales and faeries. You’ll love this dark romantic fantasy.

I enjoyed this book! However, the writing style does not seem mature? if you will. It definitely starts off rocky, but as you progress further into the book it gets more enjoyable. If you are someone who immediately puts down a book if the first few chapters are hard to get into, I do not recommend this.

Beauty and the Beast retelling… with spice and the fae!
This story could probably be read on its own, but it is actually the second in the series and you’d be better off reading the first book before this one. The majority of this book follows Bryanna and Kian, who were characters that were only briefly mentioned in the first book, but near the end of this book Bryanna and Kian are joined by characters from the first book, and there is an overarching plot which starts to come together.
Kian is the son of the Black Queen, and has been cursed by the queen to live as a hideous beast after a failed coup attempt 15 years ago. Trapped in an abandoned palace and cut off from his fae magic, Kian finds a witches’ spell book and tries to use witches’ magic to summon someone to help him escape his prison.
On the run from the Black Queen, Bryanna, her sister, and mother’s latest hiding spot is discovered. Desperate to flee, Bryanna’s mother summons a portal to Underhill, only Bryanna ends up separated from her family and trapped by the prince instead, who only offers to let her go if she will cure him of his curse.
Overall, I liked it. I would say that it didn’t have quite as much spice as the first book did, but it still had plenty. I liked seeing some of the larger plot lines start to come together. It was interesting to see the different kind of magic that Bryanna had compared to her cousin from the first book, although Bryanna took a very long time to gain confidence and after a while her lack of confidence started to get a little annoying.
The one gripe I have with the story was the head-hopping. The way that the point of view switching happened was a bit jarring for my tastes. One paragraph, you’d be inside of Kian’s head, and then the next paragraph it might be Bryanna’s. That would be fine is there was a page break or something, but there wasn’t. It wasn’t too confusing, and didn’t usually happen more than once per chapter, but head-hopping is just a style of writing that I don’t love unless it’s obvious that the point of view has just changed.
The next one is supposed to come out in a couple of weeks, and I’ll read that one once it’s released 😃 These are fun books, and I recommend it to anyone who likes dark romance and fairy tale retellings.

July 16, 2022Take a step into a darkly delicious romance with a twist of fairytale retelling and jump into the adventure into the Fae Underhill. Bryanna's a witch, and she feels like a failure. Nothing has helped her hone her powers or become more powerful than the small spelled teas and mixtures she can make. Her family has a strong witch strain, but she thinks it has passed her. She's been on the run with her sister and mother, looking for her cousin, and things start to go sideways. Magic sends Bryanna to Underhill, the realm of the beast she can barely see, and the goblins who serve him. Prince Kian needs Bryanna's witch gift to break the curse the Black Queen put on Kian, her son. All he wants is to be fae again, instead of the cruel animal hybrid she turned him into. Neither Bryanna nor Kian were expecting the crazy attraction they have for each other and how connected they'll feel.
This book was a fun meld of Fae and Fairy tale retelling. The disfigured beast and the pretty maiden trapped in his castle. I loved how the goblins were a part of the story, and I enjoyed the library angle. Kian and Bryanna had such an exciting connection. She was unsure how she could be so attracted to him when he was the one holding her prisoner, manipulating her, and not hiding his anger when things wouldn't go his way. But she couldn't stop the magnetism that pulled them together. Reading Bryanna and Kian's adventures and how they worked to break the spell was entertaining, and the new take on the fairy tale kept my attention from beginning to end.

Okay this is my first book by this author, it won’t be my last and I went back to buy the previous one to this although it isn’t needed this reads as a standalone it is a fantasy at its best get comfortable with your favorite snake because once you start it you won’t stop until you have turned the last page. Bryanna, her mother, her sister are all searching for Trina while trying to stay off the queens radar while on the run her sister has a vision that informs they need to run so their mother opens a portal stepping through and got separated where she ended up in the home of the Prince a fae who has been locked away by his mother the same queen they were running from. Kian sexy as all get out fae prince locked away by his mother decides to imprison Bryanna trying to make her use her magic to help him but she fights him every step of the way considering they have been trying to kill her and her family so escaping was her first choice but neither of them expected to feel attraction to one another, the more time she spent with him the different sides she saw in him but can she trust him considering his mother wants her dead so trust is an issue that they both have but they also was the balance they each needed but will it be enough, can they see past their issues surrounding his mother, will her magic help them both escape the prison his mother locked him into, will they find Trina, will she see her mom/sister again, and is there a HEA written for them?.

Just when I thought the series couldn't get any better, this author has outdone herself. I am a fan of Beauty and the Beast retellings, so this book was one I looked forward to.
This book is part of a series and the other books should be read to understand the back story of this one, especially to understand the courts of the fae.
While Bryanna and her family are trying to teleport to escape an band of ogres, she finds herself transported to an underground palace. Kian, who is the Black Queen's son, has been cursed and confined to an old gnome castle deep in underhill. He has been trying for years to end the curse and finally thinks he's close to summoning someone who can assist. He conjures Bryanna (or perhaps Bryanna's mother's globe) to the palace. He bargains with her: help him reverse the curse and he will help find and save her family.
Bryanna is a not very powerful healing witch and is not confident she can help. But she is determined to help her family and studies the grimoires Kian has collected through the years. She is partially successful and Kian becomes human at night, but reverts to his beast form at dawn.
Kian and Bryanna aren't aware, but the queen is aware of their attempts and is determined to put an end to the efforts...
I hung on every word in this book. It was so compelling! I highly recommend this entire series!.

September 28, 2024A Prince By Blood and Bone is the second story in the Hunted by the Faery Queen series. A Prince By Blood and Bone is the interesting story of Bryanna and Kian. I found that I had a difficult time setting this book down before finishing the last page. A Prince By Blood and Bone is the first book that I have read by author Jessica Ash, and she did NOT disappoint in anyway whatsoever with this amazing book. A Prince By Blood and Bone is perfectly written, well-balanced, an ease to read, has wonderful characters, suspenseful, a definite page-turner, entertaining/enjoyable, unpredictable, and overall this book was a pleasure to read. A Prince By Blood and Bone is a book that I would most certainly recommend this amazing book for anyone to read. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next from Author Jessica Ash.

To preface, I have read this author before and quite enjoyed her writings in that series.
This book seemed to have a bit of a slow start and I -almost- had to decide to table it for another time. I gave it a few more chapters and then it started to pick up.
The FMC, Bryanna, does get a bit whiney and self deprecating, which gets annoying, but can be overlooked with the storyline.
It is a fairy tale retelling with several fairy tales seemed to intermingle with a dark and spicy twist. So if that is your style of book, this should be looked at for your TBR!
Also to note, there is a novel before this one, “A Sword of Blood and Roses.” It does not NEED to be read to understand this story, but does help with some of the characters and back story happening in the background.

Bryanna is a human witch on the run with her family. Kian is a fae prince under a curse. Trapped together, Bryanna has to master her magic to break his curse, in order to escape, and find her family.
This book works well, both as the second installment of a series, and as a stand-alone story.
Jessica Ash is good about just dropping you into the story while simultaneously not leaving you in the dark. So the story jumps right in, and you're taken along on the adventure. The story is largely based around the two MCs, and their budding feelings/relationship, while they wade through their personal struggles to find themselves and each other.
It's pseudo enemies-to-lovers with a dash of fairy-tale, and a common enemy.

A Prince by Blood and Bone is book two in the series Hunted by the Faery Queen by author Jessica Ash. So this one leaves off where book one ends. Ok so not a cliffhanger but a continuation- per se.
Anywho, this is about Bryanna and the Prince. He is kept captive by his mother- I know crazy right. Anyways she’s a cruel $&*%+!! So, where was I, oh yes Bryanna ends up being the Prince’s captive - he wants her help so she’s not really willing. Yet there’s something in the air and the chemistry between them is spicy. Just maybe everyone will get want they want- except the evil Queen.
Enjoy!!.

A Prince by Blood and Bone is book two in the series Hunted by the Faery Queen by author Jessica Ash. So this one leaves off where book one ends. Ok so not a cliffhanger but a continuation- per se.
Anywho, this is about Bryanna and the Prince. He is kept captive by his mother- I know crazy right. Anyways she’s a cruel $&*%+!! So, where was I, oh yes Bryanna ends up being the Prince’s captive - he wants her help so she’s not really willing. Yet there’s something in the air and the chemistry between them is spicy. Just maybe everyone will get want they want- except the evil Queen.

A Prince by Blood and Bone is a fairytale retelling with a focus on my favorite fairytale of all time, Beauty and the Beast! Books like this always draw me in because I am instantly intrigued to find out what elements of the original will be used and what does the author do differently. Kian and Bryanna are forced together. With Kian trying to break his curse and Bryanna just wanting to save her family, the two will have to work together if they hope to achieve either. I really enjoyed the fairytale elements and the twists weaved throughout. I am looking forward to reading more from this world!

She undergoes many an internal journey in her quest to find her family…and herself.

Throw out those jeans & hoodies. I’d definitely wear any princessy dream dress conjured by Beezel any day! Give me beads and feathers and lace and sequins and velvet – all in a glorious deep purple…

This is a well written book with strong characters and an intriguing storyline. The author does a great job developing her characters as well as the story as she brings an exciting romance filled with mystery and a steamy passion. She moves the story fluidly with her perfectly painted scenes and delivers a fantastic dark fantasy story that had me glued to the pages right to the end. I loved reading Bryanna and Kian's story and would highly recommend this book!

A fairytale retelling of Beauty and the Beast. A nicely written story with wonder characters. Bryanna, her mother and sister are on the run from the Queen. Her sister sees the Queen in a vision and warns her family that danger is near. To escape, the trio go through a magical portal that the mother has opened. During the escape they are separated. Bryanna ends up in the last place she wanted to be. She discovers Kian, the son of the Queen and who the Queen has hidden away for years. They discover that they share the same dilemma and they need each other.

A Prince by Blood and Bone has a theme of Beauty and Beast enhancing it’s entertaining storyline that finds MFC Bryanna soon to become prisoner of said beast in an enemies-to-lovers fantasy that is a rich medley of witches, fae, intrigue, adventure, magic, action, adventure, dark romance, and spice.
Nicely written, and imagined, book two keeps up with the promise of providing readers with an engaging read.

Beauty and the beast, but make him Scottish - I'm here for it!
If you're looking for fae romantasy and folklore retellings, then this series is definitely for you.
The story is well developed and the Characters are well fleshed out and I'll try definitely be reading the next book in the series.
It is a standalone, but will be much more enjoyable if you read the first book.

I loved how each character was able to shine in his/her own way and that we experienced each of them in a different light. This was amazing and I cannot wait for the next. This story was jam packed with action, drama, tension and a huge plot twist. Bryanna annoyed me a bit but she did manage to hold her own in the end.
This is book 2 in the series and can be read as a standalone but you'll be missing out on some of the plot that's carried over from book 1. It ends in a cliffhanger with Cassie's story coming in book 3.

This is book 2 of the Feary Queen. This book starts off where the first one ended. It ends with a cliff hanger. This book reminds me of the beauty and the beast but more with magic, witch, evil queen, and kidnapping. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen next and it didn’t disappoint me. I cannot wait to get the next book.

I adore this book. Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite romance growing up and this definitely brings those vibes. It was such a delight to see that appear here. Bryanna is interesting. She’s not disliked by the townspeople but her own family. She’s seen as odd and different and weak. Kian is a strange character. He was kind of humorous and strong and dominant and the growly parts were top notch. I really enjoyed it, it’s a mature book for sure but it was such a good read.

As with the first book if you don’t read this book it will be one of the biggest mistakes of your life. Everything about it is brilliant but the way Jessica Ash writes her books is just phenomenal. I promise you read this book and all your fantasy dreams will be fulfilled in these pages. However as with most good books be prepared to go through pretty much every emotion possible.

The plot is quite good especially at the start of the story. Unfortunately, the incessant "I can't do it, I'm a loser, etc" from one of the main characters, Bryanna, started to grate on my nerves. I just couldn't finish the book. It's a pity as this has the potential to be a page turner.

It was a slow start, but I quickly fell in love with the the characters. Expert descriptions kept me imagining the hobgoblins and gnomes. I was sad when it ended wanting to know more and I can not wait to crack open the sequel.

I thought that this story was very well written and created a magical world that was very realistic and full of life.
I also love the characters trials and tribulations and their witty dialogue.
I love fairy tale retelling but, I also think that it is a skill when multiple ones are combined together to bring something new a fresh to read..

Will Bryanna be captive till the end of time or turned over to the Black Queen? For Bryanna there is magic and danger at every turn right up until the end of the novel which is fiercely grim. I loved this book as much as the first one because it comes with a Fae prince. It is another amazing book by Jessica Ash.
