I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I know I’m not alone in the true crime club. I’ve got good company, and the best part about true crime, is that there are so many ways to consume it—TV, books, podcasts, etc. It’s great because when you’re feeling creepy and in the mood for something a little murderesque, or maybe even just true crime, there are lots of ways to indulge that interest. There are lots of non-true dramatic crime shows that have been around for decades, and now Netflix and many other streaming services have come out with some great true crime series as well, and that’s super fun.

Speaking of which…this review is part of a series of books that are right up your alley if you’re a true crime enjoyer. This series of books, edited by Mitzi Szereto, is fun because they all have a theme in each book of the series. This particular entry is about unsolved crimes and mysteries. Each book in the series is a standalone, but they’re fun because the themes are fun and although the stories aren’t related to each other particularly, having an overarching theme makes all the stories feel cohesive, and also gives you an idea of what you’re getting into when you start the story. I have several of these books now, so when I’m in the mood for a true crime or mystery I can look at the theme of the book and decide what kind of story I’m in the mood for and proceed from there when choosing the book.

One thing that I really liked about this book (and all books in the series) is that the stories are short enough that they feel bite-sized and are easy to read in a short amount of time. Do you just want to read something quickly before going to bed? This is your book. Do you want to binge read some crime mysteries, but not necessarily have to be in it for the long haul? This is your book. It really just gives you the satisfaction of binging crime without the ten podcast episode series, or hour-long show, etc. You can just enjoy a quick crime dip—get in, get out, get ‘er done. I have actually put a couple of these books on the nightstand in my guest room. I figure that maybe the guest forgot a book and needs some light before-bed reading, and this is just the ticket!

If you are into true crime and mysteries in any form, this is really a great book for you. The writing is good and because it is a compilation book, there are lots of different styles of writers and lots of different stories to choose from.
