Fitzgeralds is an art deco luxury and expensive hotel which has a dark past. Amongst the glitz and glamour, the cocktails and the exquisite food there lurks malevolence. However, it seems it’s the perfect honeymoon location for Sam and David although Sam is a tad out of her depth and very insecure for several reasons. It’s also a perfect venue for Daisy and her husband Tom both trying to recover from a heartbreaking trauma. Becky, full of anxiety and antidepressants, regards her husband Josh and wonders if he has eyes on a different prize. The scene is set, the potential for the couples vacation ruined with the horrifying discovery of the body of waitress Stella at the base of the cliffs.

First of all, what a superb location and I’m assuming it’s based on Burgh Island in Devon, a place at which I’ve long wished to stay but without this kind of drama! The author utilises this setting very effectively throughout the novel but especially the glitter before and with less shine after Stella’s death as it then becomes a very claustrophobic location. The hot spell of weather is used extremely effectively too, adding a stifling atmosphere which is palpable and increases the intensity of the unfolding events.

The couples are portrayed well, the dynamics are good as you feel the vulnerability, fragility and insecurity of the females but it has to be said the men are awful, full of pretense, all mask wearers and one in particular is a word twister manipulator. You feel the tension between them and your suspicion radar twitches in several directions much like the women themselves do in the novel! The characters are doing their sums and something is not adding up! However how reliable are the novel’s narrators!? I really like the growing bond between the women which feels real and authentic.

However, there’s a bit of going round and round the garden at Fitzgeralds with some repetition which spoils things a bit for me. The ending feels a bit low-key and I suppose the expectations are for something more dramatic but maybe on reflection this is more realistic and works better.
The ultimate ending is a real surprise! Didn’t see that one coming! Well played!

Overall, it’s an entertaining easy read and perfect for summer escapism.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bookouture for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

It was supposed to be an idyllic honey moon on a deserted island but for Sam & David it was a nightmare.

Sam & David Richards we’re celebrating their honey moon in Fitzgeralds in the hotel they were staying at with views surrounding them & a upmarket restaurant they thought they would have the time of their lives, but when the body of a waitress who works in the bar at Fitzgeralds was found at the bottom of a cliff everyone was a suspect.

The hotel has a history of its own with mysterious deaths & disappearances The police look into Stella’s death & tells everyone not to leave.

As the plot thickens David tells Sam not to tell anyone where he was… why?
Sam starts to question her own marriage Does she know David at all?

This is a page turner I couldn’t put down it gets you in from start to finish I put my detective cap on but still didn’t pick it, Sue Watson puts a clue in your head & then packs a red hearing into the equation & takes you in a different direction there are multiple Points of view Sam Becky Daisy Stella was well written & enjoyable.

A beautiful, secluded island resort sounds like a dream but for the three couples in this book - it becomes a nightmare!

Sam and David are on their honeymoon. Daisy and Tom are taking this time away to decide how to move forward after loss. Becky and Josh have left their kids behind for a chance to be together. What more could they ask for? They are in a beautiful location, the food is delicious, the drinks are flowing, and they have formed a holiday friendship of sorts. Their trips should be bliss. But unfortunately, the body of the beautiful young waitress/yoga instructor has been found. The police have been called in and everyone is a subject. Being on an island they know they can't leave and someone in their midst is a murderer!

Who can be trusted? Who indeed!

This one had me scratching my head initially as I tried desperately to solve the case. It was evident from the beginning that something wasn't right. There were too many suspicious characters, but secretive behavior and lies do not necessarily make one a killer, does it?

Watson has once again written a gripping and tension filled book! She kept me on my toes guessing and second guessing my prime suspect which changed throughout the book. Then at the end of the day - I was wrong!

This was a captivating whodunit which had me turning the pages at breakneck speed. I also loved the tropical island location which added to the atmosphere and gave a there-is-no-escape feel to the book.

Full of tension and unease, The Resort was right up my alley. Plus, that ending left me with my mouth hanging open! Shock-a-Rama!

3 couples that have never met gather at a posh resort on an island and become holiday friends.

Sam and David are on their honeymoon after only a short courtship of 6 months. How well can you really know someone in such a short amount of time? He's well off and she never had money, so she scooped him up quickly before he could realize he didn't want her. Sam has major self-esteem issues. David gave me a sleazeball vibe right away.

Daisy and Tom are a confident and appealing looking couple, but she's older by 8 years and having a tough time coping after losing a baby. They're away to try to work on their marriage. Can they let go of the sadness they are both feeling and find their way back to each other?

Becky and Josh are away to take Becky's mind off some issues she's having. Josh is always insisting Becky can't drink, needs to take pills and rest. Is he controlling or is something else going on? For all the running Josh does I'd expect his legs to be made of steel.

Stella is a bartender, yoga instructor and a waitress. Easy on the eyes and everyone notices, which in turns makes everyone a suspect when she turns up dead on the beach.
All of the characters were maddening at one point or another. There's plenty of jealousy, secrets, suspicion, insecurity, drama and lies going on that it'll make your head spin.

I do like that it went back and forth between the characters perspectives. Each chapter ending leaves you on a bit of a cliffhanger, which made me want to turn the pages quickly to try to keep up and see if I had everything figured out. I had an inkling right away about who was involved in each little mystery. I second guessed what I thought was going on so many times because of this particular writing style, but in the end my initial thoughts were correct. I even had the hat wearer pegged from the get go.

One thing that seemed odd to me was that it was always so hot in the rooms ~ isn't this a ritzy resort that can ensure the rooms have adequate air conditioning? And if it's so hot all the time why are people wearing hoodies?

Overall, this was a quick read and fast paced too. I'll be sure to look for more of Sue's work in the future.

Yes!! I highly recommend this holiday from hell. It’s wickedly delicious and extremely entertaining. “ As the mercury rose, and storms rolled in, secrets were spilled and lives were lost in that beautiful white palace overlooking a turquoise sea.” Strangers are drawn together as danger and suspicion lurk around every corner. Who will be the next to die? Who is the wolf in sheep’s clothing in this risky game of cat and mouse? I couldn’t get enough of this twisted vacation where no one is safe and everyone could be guilty. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First of all, thanks to netgally and bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The book started with one of the guest saying that a woman should call the police, so from the start you where already wondering what was going on.

I loved the premise of the book; Couples at a holiday who find each other after a murder. There were just enough suspects to keep the suspense heightened, and I just had to keep reading, searching for clues. The couples all had their secrets, but it wasn’t all revealed at the same time, which I liked. Watson has an appealing writing style that kept me on the edge of my seat. No unnecessary words or sentences.
There was always something happening, and the hotels atmosphere matched with the unsettling vibe you got while reading.

I was a bit surprised by one of the guest, not quite buying why she was there considering her condition, but it didn’t irritate me too much.

I felt satisfied by the reveals at the end, it made perfect sense to me!

All in all it was an enjoyable read.

First, this book was simply awful. Second, I have no idea why I persevered and finished it. If I’d had a lick of sense, I would have closed the cover after the first ten pages and moved along. Third, do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake—hours wasted on what can only be described as utter nonsense.

The story is that of three couples, meeting for the first time whilst on holiday at Fitzgerald’s, a posh, exclusive resort. Now this could have been a great name for a lavish getaway situated on its very own island. Instead, however, it is rendered positively cringeworthy the moment the second couple is introduced—Tom and Daisy. (No, I’m not kidding. F. Scott is somewhere in the ether, downing migraine meds and praying he doesn’t have a stroke.). When a Fitzgerald’s waitress is found dead on the beach, no one knows for sure whether it is murder or suicide, but finger-pointing runs amuck, and everyone is a suspect.

There are so many issues here I’m not even sure where to begin. The character development is abhorrent—not a single one likable or even interesting. It’s as if the author created these shells she intended to imbue with personalities but then realized a couple hundred pages in that she had forgotten to do so. Their behaviors are inconsistent and erratic, up and down more often than a whore’s drawers. In case that isn’t enough of a deterrent to keep turning pages, there are also numerous errors in continuity. One of my favorites is as chapter five opens, and Daisy is on her way to the beach:

“Daisy climbed down the rather rickety wooden steps to the beach, and once there pulled off her sandals, immediately soothed by the feeling of warm sand between her toes. She stood at the bottom of the stairs…”

In THE VERY NEXT PARAGRAPH:

“She tried not to think of what might have been and counted her blessings as she stood quietly at the top of the wooden steps down to the beach, her art director’s eye scanning the view for shots.”

Come on, seriously? It’s a ONE PARAGRAPH follow through!

Here’s another gem:

“‘You sure you’re okay?’ Sam was saying. ‘You look terribly pale.’

To Sam, she probably looked like the picture of sophistication drinking Aperol in her chichi beachwear, but in truth she was just a scared and fragile woman.”

So Sam tells Daisy she looks pale, and Daisy interprets that to mean Sam sees her as a picture of sophistication? I….but….::sigh::

Those are just two examples of the myriad issues that plague this book. Although classified as a “mystery”, the only true mystery is how The Resort made it to publication. This editor needs to be in the unemployment line whilst seeking training for a new career.

Reading back, I realize the brutality of this review, but it truly angers me to spend hard earned money to purchase a book that I then invest time into reading, only to discover that clearly my own investments are far more than those made by the author.

An idyllic Island resort, a fantastic hotel cut off from the world where luxury awaits…..3 couples, all with secrets, lies and personality deficits arrive for what they think will be a wonderful break…..and then the murder starts
I would describe this as a psychological/ whodunit and it really could be anyone as they all appear to have motive and the chance to commit the dastardly crimes that are happening on the Island, as we get to know the 6 I found it increasingly hard to like most of them and imagined they all had a hand in it….the revelation and the ending were a juicy surprise!
The author again writes a good descriptive laden read, character rich, atmospheric and tense and will keep you guessing through to the end

I really enjoy Sue Watson novels, engaging, fast paced, twisty and well written. This is yet another excellent read that I read in one sitting.

Three couples are on holiday at a secluded island resort looking to have the time of their lives but end up in a murder investigation. When Stella the resorts bartender is discovered dead at the bottom of nearby cliffs everyone is under suspicion and forced to remain available for police interviews.

Daisy and Tom were looking to reignite the desire that had been missing from their relationship and this holiday seemed to be the perfect tonic. Much of their troubles stem from the tragic loss of their child and the news that Daisy will never again be able to have children. For Sam and David, this was to be a dream honeymoon to celebrate their very brief relationship. Sam and David are very different, David is self confident, full of himself and forever making Sam feel upset by his cutting remarks. Becky and Josh were young lovers who married and have enjoyed over twenty years together. They are looking forward to a dream holiday where they can relax. Their relationship to any observers is very strange. Josh appears to dictate Becky’s every move, planning her schedule, her diet and when she should take a rest. Three interesting couples that will get your mind racing wondering what is happening. This is a very entertaining read. I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Fitzgerald's is a beautiful resort that has a history of unfortunate tragedy. Three couples meet while on holiday, each one celebrating special events. Sam and David, Becky and Josh, and Daisy and Tom. Each couple has their issues, but they all form a bond when an employee from the hotel named Stella is found dead on the beach. Everyone instantly becomes a suspect. What happened to Stella? Did one of these couples have something to do with her death?

I always look forward to a new book by Sue Watson. She is one of my very favorite authors. As usually, she had me on the edge of my seat trying to solve this mystery. I really enjoyed it and read in a days time. It was a hard one for me to put down, even for a few minutes. If you are looking for a quick and easy read, grab a copy of THE RESORT and see if you can figure out the mystery! I did not, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ending.

You've been excited about this getaway for months - at last, a chance to reconnect with your husband at a secluded island resort. But when he unexpectedly calls you from the beach, you hear the urgency in his voice. Something is very wrong. The beautiful waitress from the restaurant last night has been found lying dead in the sand. And the police want to question your husband about it.

The story focuses on three couples - Dave and Sam, Tom and Daisy, and Josh and Becky, who are all staying at the exclusive island resort, FitzGerald's. They are there for different reasons, they were all strangers who quickly became friends. But a suspicious death brings them even closer.

The pace is steady throughout but there was quite a bit of repetition of the same conversation. When there is under 300 pages the repetitiveness became annoying. Apart from that, I couldn't wait to see how this story was going to unfold. Sam and Becky's perspectives were told in the first person whilst Daisy's point of view was told in the third. I didn't like any of the characters who were all flawed in different ways. I took off half a star for the repetition.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #SueWatson for my ARC of #TheResort in exchange for an honest review.

This is my review of The Resort.

Three couples are on a holiday at a private island resort, “Fitzgerald” on a rugged island in the middle of the ocean. But this getaway soon turns into a nightmare!

Daisy and Tom are trying to enjoy a luxury break, and celebrate the end of something. It had been a difficult year for them, after the tragic loss of their child and after three unsuccessful rounds of IVF, they have stopped treatment and have had to accept reality. Daisy had worked as an art director for a fashion magazine, and had put her career first and waited later to have a child. Now at thirty-eight, Daisy must accept a future without a child. She was now lost and afraid her younger husband would look elsewhere for his opportunity to having a family.

Sam and David were on their honeymoon, after only six months together. Sam, a hairdresser is insecure about her looks. David always surrounds himself around beautiful women, loving the attention.

Beck and Josh had been married for over twenty years and her husband brought her to the resort to relax and make her happy again. Josh is very controlling and treats his wife like a child.

The couples soon become friendly.

But then a beautiful waitress, Stella from the restaurant is found lying dead at the bottom of the cliffs. And now everyone is questioned by the police in this murder investigation.

They all had their secrets…

“Who knows what goes on in other people’s marriages?”

This was a gripping, fast-paced, well written thriller that is well worth the read.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.

The Resort, Sue Watson's upcoming psychological thriller has mind blowing twists that you will not be able to resist. Sue is not afraid to take on darker elements of high tension and drama which has led to her massive popularity. Her books have sold over a million copies to date.

Synopsis:
Imagine a gorgeous high end resort on a secluded island with picturesque ocean views, free flowing cocktails and exquisite food. For three different couples staying at the resort this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In the case of one couple it is their honeymoon and for the other two it is a recommitment to their marriages. Things could not be more blissful for the three couples until a young female employee of the resort is murdered and her body is found on the beach. Suddenly, the police refuse to allow anyone to leave the island and everyone is considered a suspect. Could the killer strike again?

The Resort is available on June 24th. After having read many thrillers in my life, I thought I had this plot figured out, but I was very wrong. Sue Watson, you totally fooled me! (5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for the opportunity to review this outstanding book by the mega talented Sue Watson. I was blown away by this novel!

Good, not great and certain not “unputdownable.” Publishers I beg of you - stop with marketing books as unputdownable. It’s now overused and makes me expect it is, in fact, putdownable.

The Resort was ok and a three star until the end and got a four because I was surprised.

Three couples embark on a dream vacation that is anything but. A waitress is found dead, and the police quickly confirm that it was murder. In short order, each of the resort's guests begin to doubt one another. In fact, doubts leads to accusations, proving that there is a large measure of distrust amongst all of them.

One couple is there to deal with life after loss. Another couple is there on their honeymoon. Another couple's actions cause concern for the others involved. What is everyone's story? More importantly, since there are only six resort guests and some staff, at least one of them is a murderer, thus a long shadow of doubt is cast on just about everyone. The resort is accessible only by boat and the police insist that everyone stays put until all are questioned, especially since motive could easily be assigned to any of them.

Sue Watson is an incredibly gifted writer. As she penned this domestic thriller, it was easy to find fault with each of the guests, but quite difficult to imagine who the likely killer was. In fact, Ms. Watson created a bevy of unlikable characters, thus increasing the difficulty of sorting out the killer's identity. By so doing, this book proved intriguing from beginning to end. Considering the twists in this book, as well as misdirection, this was definitely a book designed to keep even the most keen of readers on their toes.

Waiting for the shoe to drop in this compelling read made for a bumpy, albeit enjoyable ride. In fact, not only was the drama more than intense, the ending grabbed me by the throat and truly caught me by surprise, especially as this book was written in first person, from more than one point of view. This made it even more difficult to guess the killer. Job well done, Ms. Watson. It is with bated breath that I await your next read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Overall this book was a big disappointment.

I could not stand the constant yo-yoing with the hot and cold, deep into and withdrawal of relationships and thoughts of the couples: it just seemed so unbelievable and far away from reality.

The relationships of either of the couples were very trope-y and shallow and not well fleshed out. Neither was any of the characters and none were likeable or relatable. They just all seemed completely off.

There were so psychological thrill as promised and absolutely no twists. The plot did not budge and would could skip pages on end and never miss out on anything. It was a strange way of telling a very boring story.

Also, the chapters were from a perspective of the people and couples, yet they were in third person? I just didn’t get it. Also the characters were so shallow and one sided that I often had to go back and see who’s chapter it was, as I could not tell any of them apart properly.

This was a book I wanted to finish asap in order to just move on and hopefully read a better executed book next.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

3.5 stars. Three couples vacationing at a luxury island resort form an unlikely bond when a murder takes place and no one is permitted to leave the island. Marital tensions increase and suspicions grow as the police investigation progresses. The author does a good job of slowly feeding clues and revealing secrets to keep the reader guessing. I was frustrated with most of the characters, as the women are insecure and vulnerable for various reasons, and the men are just awful. I thought the first half of the book was a bit slow and repetitive but the ending took a turn I wasn't expecting, which bumped up my rating.

Once you arrive at this white jewel glittering on the ocean, you’ll never want to leave! It’s the hottest summer on record in the UK. There’s a beautiful white palace overlooking a turquoise sea. It’s Fitzgerald’s, an iconic Art Deco luxury resort. Darkness dwells within these walls though. It has a glamorously checkered past of celebrity deaths and mysteries. The local lore isn’t in the brochure.

We meet 3 couples on 3 different journeys. Sam and David are newlyweds on their honeymoon. Daisy and Tom(I see what you did there) have suffered a setback in their relationship and are at a crossroads. Becky and Josh have been together since high school and have kids. We’re not sure yet what they’re there to fix but it’s definitely something.

The only thing these 3 couples have in common is their interaction with Stella, a beautiful employee of Fitzgerald’s who’s juggling multiple jobs. Waitress, bartender, yoga instructor. These couples cross paths the morning Stella is found dead. Everyone had a motive here. The men have wandering eyes and some of the women are jealous.

As exits from the island close, these couples are pushed together and find comfort in each other quickly, and a little animosity. Stuck in a pressure cooker, more attacks happen and the lives of these 6 people intertwine more and more. The girls find kinship. The men find competition.

Who killed Stella? Was it an accident or murder? As clues unfold throughout the pages, you’ll be glued to your seat in suspense! Not everyone is going to make it home from the resort.

I loved this! I love Art Deco so I enjoyed the word picture painted for us of this resort and the characters grew on me so quickly. I was initially skeptical of 3 narrators but they were developed so well that it was seamless.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the chance to read and review!

I liked this little English thriller that I listened to on Audible.

Three couples paths collide on an island resort. Three very different couples with three very different stories. Not all of them will make it home.

I enjoyed the narration in this one and the plot was fairly solid.

However it was not without its flaws. Some of the characters made some utterly stupid decisions and unfortunately I guessed ALL the major twists well before they happened. Right down to exactly who died, who did it and why.

Ultimately I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't go back again.

Also trigger warning for abuse and rape.

Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Mystery Thriller

My Rating: 5 WOW! Stars!

The Fitzgerald is a beautiful resort ~ described as a big, white, beautiful palace on a rugged island.
It was built in the 1920s and although has been remodeled several, it takes pride in maintaining the vibe and look of era it was created.
It is also rumored that in addition to its history there is also tragedy.
Three couples meet ~ each are at “The Fitzgerald” for a dream getaway.
Sam and David Harrison are on their Honeymoon ~ (however David is so critical of Sam; he certainly has my Spidey sense on alert!)
Daisy and Tom Brown are a unique couple as their jobs are totally opposite. Daisy is beautiful and if a bit taller could have been a model. Currently they are suffering from the loss of a stillborn baby and have not been able to get pregnant again. Tom is younger than Daisy and she feels if he were with someone younger he would be a dad by now.

Becky and Josh Andrews are a bit different in that Josh is excited about being at the resort but Becky seems to be worried first stating her concern about leaving their teenage children with her mom and sister. Not sure why she is having such a hard time enjoying this magnificent resort

Stella Foster is an employee at the resort; she is young and beautiful, works as a waitress in the evening and yoga instructor in the morning. However when Stella is found dead on the beach ~ guess who is a suspect? Yep a member of our couples! Hmmm why would any of them have anything to do with a stranger’s death?

I am a big psychological thriller fan and know to suspect everyone! I sure missed on this!!

Quick read and truly could not put it down!

This is my second Sue Watson read. My 5 star rating of her novels is 100%
Excited for her next story!

Unfortunately, they are now stuck in paradise while the police try to find out who murdered a waitress and then a guest is assaulted. The couples begin to look at their relationships and wonder if they really know each other. A good suspenseful mystery. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

When it comes to tension and suspense, weather often has the power to make things seem ominous and immersive. Nobody knows that more than Watson. She has expertly harnessed the weather to enhance the reader’s sense of imminent danger. In fact, she’s used the weather as a plot device, as an indicator of emotional pulse and as a character! Her characters have come through and/or will go through their own storms as guests in this hotel. It was inspiring to sit back and see what Watson was able to weave into her narrative. The end result is atmospheric and brooding and without you realizing it, she’ll have you shivering despite the heat wave !

“The heat throughout the hotel is even more intense. You can’t escape it. Like a stalker it follows us, creeps around and settles wherever we are, making us tired, tense and argumentative.”

“In this hot, claustrophobic setting, friends are questioning friends, wives are looking differently at husbands, no one trusts anyone.”

“Everything’s quiet. Even the waves are calmer, like their hunger has been sated now.”

In addition to her expert use of weather, Watson is deft at utilizing the setting to add depth and richness to her writing. Fitzgerald’s is a luxury hotel set on an island. Resort guests are lured by the glitz and glamour and dress to impress. It’s a calling card for deception; people pretend to be someone they’re not and their actions parallel their pretense. People were pretending they’d nothing to hide! Interestingly, the hotel’s old world charm with the crystal chandeliers and opulent colour palettes lose their glitz and become shabby and dim as evil grows and starts to take over the island. Once the guests realize they can’t leave due to the police investigation, their outlook dims, and what was once considered a luxury vacation “feels more like a prison sentence.”

“There are so many good fakes around these days you just can’t tell at a distance”

“There's lying and there’s hiding the truth. Are the two things different?”

“People hide their true selves, they present an image to the world and too often the world buys.”

Finally, Watson explores some issues that I’ve never seen addressed in novels before; that of how revealing a diagnosed illness changes how friends interact with each other and how the death of ‘one of us’ gives license to intimate comments about close relationships that never existed prior to death. How ironic that people often feel uncomfortable and shy away from forming meaningful friendships when they hear someone is ill - that’s when sympathy and kindness are most needed. On the flip side, how ironic that people pretend to have friendships, closer ones, with the recently deceased when in reality they were passing acquaintances. Human nature is quirky! Watson’s work showcases it well.

Beware! While Fitzgerald’s is beguiling and enchanting, it’s also hiding some dark secrets of lust and revenge. Just ask newlyweds, Sam and David Harrison, twentieth anniversary celebrants, Becky and Josh Andrews or busy executives on a couples-focused getaway, Daisy and Tom Brown.

I may not have identified with any of the characters this time, but I was absorbed in a compelling read and in awe of the author’s talent. I can’t wait to see what she writes about next!

I was gifted this advance copy by Sue Watson, Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This was another cracker from Sue Watson!
She crafts her novels so well- characters that you ALWAYS have an opinion on, (whether that is a negative or positive one) and a plot that grips you through every page.
Those characters gave me serious anger though, the women were doormats, and the husbands were so controlling! I love that I can still like Watson's books even when the characters annoy me so much!
The plot was fantastic, and I couldn't wait for the revelations to start to see what had happened. I suspected every character at one point or another, which is just what I love! TRUST NO ONE!
I had hoped for a bigger 'wow' ending though, but I have extremely high standards in that area!
A fantastic book.

It's not great when a story is told by several characters' points of view yet they all sound like they could be the same person. With the three couples at the heart of the story, I had to keep double checking on which man was married to which woman as the story advanced, because none of the characters were developed beyond the bare minimum. All three husbands were written as total schmucks so after awhile it was more about who was the schmuckiest - and so do I really care whodunnit? I thought the concept was good - murder at a luxury resort with multiple tourists as the main suspects - but it just wasn't executed all that effectively. It was engrossing enough to keep me reading but if I have to keep looking back to remind myself who was what, then that says a lot and not in a good way.

Hmm, how to rate a book where the plot is well done but the characters are often infuriating? In this book about three couples and a disastrous time at a fancy resort, the three men are jerks in different ways and varying degrees, and the women are too often weak and make terrible choices.

Another thing that bugged me was how often one of the women would seem to have reached a decision and then, next thing you know, all that is forgotten and we’re straight back to the same dysfunctional dynamic.

My three stars is a compromise based on the fact that the whodunnits were interesting—and it made me remember to appreciate my husband.

This is a good read.
Three couples meet whilst on holiday at a luxurious hotel on an island near Devon.
We get an insight into each couples’ lives and they’re all dealing with their own issues.
Whilst out walking Sam and Daisy find a woman’s body at the bottom of the cliffs, but are unsure if she fell or was pushed.
The Police come to the island to interview everyone but it’s not clear who would want her killed.
This is a good mystery thriller.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
