Pixie Pink #1

Werewolves Like Pink Too

Rate this book
What's worse than a pink pixie living all alone in the Big City, eight thousand miles away from home?

A pink pixie who's stuck behind a desk all day, taking calls and managing monster-fighting crews without ever seeing the light of day herself. That's what.

For two years, I worked my ass off to prove myself to my boss, and prayed for a chance to do the work I left my family behind for.

And I'm finally about to catch my break. I've got an undercover mission with my name on it, and it's everything I've been dreaming of since I got here.

Until I find out that Dominic Dane will be my partner. That self absorbed, narcissistic werewolf who humiliated me in front of all my coworkers on day one, and loves to pretend that I don't even exist.

It's bad enough that he tried to kick me out of my mission. It's even worse that he's sinfully hot and fries braincells with a single look of those gorgeous green eyes.

Now, on top of having to kick ass on my first mission, I have to pretend to be his girlfriend for three days, and keep my ridiculous attraction to him under control, too. So much for catching a break.

Lucky for me, I've got a secret weapon that's going to help me handle Dominic Dane, and it's God's best gift to mankind: chocolate. Armed with as many bars as my purse can fit, and with my wits about me, I'm going to survive the gorgeous wolf-ass one way or the other—and win.

It could have been great, but it was only okay. The concept was very interesting and while the world-building could have been fleshed out just a little more, it was decent for the genre it's set in.

However, some things were completely bulldozed to set up the romance. First of all, the romance was stellar. I'm not that excited that I have to read the other two books as well in order to get a conclusion, but I'm willing to do so and hope they're better than this one. We don't see a lot of Dominic's POV, so I was a little confused why it was even in the book if it was only shown two or three times, but when we do - AH. Okay.

While I love their chemistry, it completely takes over Teddy's brain - all the time. On the one hand, she's trying to establish that she's capable of handling a mission and whatnot, but on the other hand, she tries to say something and she's distracted by his smell or his voice or his breath. And it wasn't explained why she consumed chocolate all day long - I mean, me too - but is it a pixie thing? A Teddy thing? Does she need the sugar rush or the cocoa flavor?

Plot-wise, the idea was there but it was a little underwhelming, mostly because the romance was the sole focus. In a book like this, where it's trying to develop both a romance and a plot instead of one being on the side, spend an equal amount of time on both.

the author was so focused on the story she wanted to tell she forgot about simple things like logic

I think the author was so focused on the story she wanted to tell she forgot about simple things like logic, common sense and spelling. It doesn't make sense for an inexperienced, emotional, naive desk jockey to be assigned a dangerous, undercover mission. It would make more sense if she had been involved in simple missions previously (like the lutin infestations that are brought up constantly) and then assigned the undercover op.
There's also a lot of telling and not showing in the series, especially related to lore and world building. I personally don't enjoy or remember large history dumps. There are better ways to inform the reader then by going through every mythical creature in one page or an entire building schematics in a paragraph.
The backstory of each character also doesn't make much sense. For example, if being a werewolf is so dangerous and hard to control why put 3 in the foster system with humans who apparently aren't supposed to know that supernatural exist? That would lead to exposure, possibly cause a civil war (especially with what seems like the multiple issue supernaturals cause on a daily basis). That doesn't benefit anyone and does more harm then good.
Teddy is extremely immature and acts like a child, not someone in their mid-20s. And the fascination Dominic has with her after one 10 min interaction doesn't make sense. Especially when you talk about him breaking someone's legs just to hang out with her. That's absolutely insane!
If you're looking for a mindless read this is for you but if you want something with substance, look elsewhere.

AMAZING SERIES STARTER!

I read, and read a lot - I like to think I have read most, or at least many - of the best paranormal fantasy/romance/ authors out there. I especially concentrate on reading books with “bad-ass” heroines. This is the first book I have read by Hoxa, but it sure as hell won’t be the last.
Teddy “Theodora” is a pixie who’s heart and courage are so much bigger than her petite self. She left her pixie family and community to go out into the “big world” because she wanted more than just a rather simple and predictable pixie life and because her inborn magic doesn’t work like other pixies. Once she is an agent with the world organization who protects the public from bad supes, her life remains boring until she is sent, undercover, with the one werewolf, Dominic, on whom she has had a crush for two years and who she assumes hates her bc he never even acknowledges her existence.
Needless to say, the plot of this book involves hot, hot, sexual tension/love scenes, as well as betrayal, kidnapping, etc. I don’t like to discuss plots in my reviews - who wants to know the whole plot before reading a book? However, this book ends with a romantic and plot cliffhanger which will make you come back for more. Again, I haven’t read a first book in a series, in quite a while, that I enjoyed as much as this book. Run, don’t walk, to get a copy. Make sure you plan not to be very busy, tho, that day….

This is awesome! We meet Teddy a pixie whose left her home and family behind to go out into the big bad world and has found it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be! She’s such a great character, sassy, strong and big in heart and wants a chance to prove herself. It’s gets all exciting hen she gets the chance to go undercover but unfortunately it’s with Dominic the werewolf whose totally hot and knows it! A gripping and entertaining read with fantastic, intense chemistry that is waaaaaaay off the charts as well as some action, drama, danger, murder, kidnapping, betrayal and some twists I did not see coming!

I shelved it as an enemies-to-lovers but is it really enemies-to-lovers if he says stuff like:

She was the sun, and my being revolved around her. It had started the day we met in the janitor's closet two years ago, and since the moment I saw her smile, thoughts of her had been a constant in my life.

That just takes all the fun out of it. But Dominic's cheesy lines are not the reason behind my two-star rating. That honor goes entirely to our pink manic pixie, Teddy.

Teddy, who somehow had me convinced she is a great heroine through nearly half of this book. Teddy, who was so eager to prove how capable she is during her first assignment but ended up obsessing over Dominic the entire mission. Teddy, who could declare her hate towards this man in one breath and her undying love for him in the next. Teddy was a disappointment.

As if that hadn't been enough, the story ended with a cliffhanger.

So, I held hope close to my heart, and I let go of Dominic, set both him and myself free from any expectations. We both had our lives to live, and just because our paths couldn't meet right now, it didn't mean they never would. Because even though I wouldn't be there for him, either, I would still be his.

Unless you plan on reading the entire series, I'd skip over this one.

**Recommended if you have a high tolerance for plots that go round in circles

My heart y'all...I loved this book so much, but my heart still hurts. Heading right into the next book in the series because I need more Dominic and Teddy in my life! This is my second read through, and it's been with me since I read it the first time a year or so ago. I wasn't ready to go through this kind of heartbreak for two more books, but I am now, which is why I picked it up again!

The relationship between Dom and Teddy is full of longing, angst, misunderstandings, lust, and a lot of love! That button y'all...swoon.

If you love enemies-to-lovers, read this book!
If you love a growly alpha male/werewolf, read this book!
If you love a strong, sassy, independent FMC who's out to prove herself, read this book!
If you love touch-her-and-dxx vibes, read this book!
If you love a slow-burn that's worth the wait, read this book!
If you love protective alpha males, read this book!
If you love capable FMCs, read this book!
If you love he-falls-first-and-harder, read this book!
If you love angst, drama, suspense, longing, spicy, fantasy romance, read this book!

I'd keep going, but it's cutting into my reading time...so I'm gonna leave it there and get to the next book! Highly recommend! Read it in a day! Couldn't put it down! Impatient to start book two! Seriously...read this book! You won't regret it!

Theodora “Teddy” De Ver is a very unusual pixie. Unlike most of her people plants don’t respond to her, and because of that she left her family home to move to New Youk City and started working for ODP. Unfortunately, her dream of being a field agent and nabbing the bad guys never quite got off the ground, instead she’s been stuck behind a desk for two years, but she still hopes fa a chance to do field work. When her chance finally comes, she’s furious that the werewolf she despises has manipulated events to make sure he is on the mission with her. Dominic Dane is one of the ODP’s top agents, and he is not going to let Teddy go on a mission that will probably get her killed unless he’s there to protect her. She may not be happy about that he is on this mission with her, but Teddy is stubborn enough to refuse to let the unexpected change keep her from fulfilling her dream.

I loved these characters. They are all well written and compelling, and Teddy and Dominic are absolutely wonderful. Their interactions are entertaining, sometimes amusing, and steamy. Action, suspense, betrayal, surprising twists in the the plot, and romance. I think this is a must read, I loved it.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Great concept, but a few things ruined it for me.

The FMC is such a great character, and she proves how smart and capable she is over and over in her field...and is then a complete doe-eyed doormat for the MMC. Like full on can't form coherent thoughts because he's in my vicinity trope, and that's so disappointing.

Also, the "You're the love of my life but we can't be together because my life is dangerous/I have to focus on my revenge plan" is actually the worst reason on earth for two characters not to be together. This was such a good slow burn despite the annoying doormat thing, and then they decide they're going to go their separate ways at the end because it's too dangerous? Yawn. I don't want to have to read more books to get to an HEA just because of that ridiculous reason.

Anyway, I loved that the FMC worked so hard and proved herself so well. I really like this concept, I just don't know if I can stand more back and forth in however many more books there are in this series when the reason for it is dumb.

Awesome story. Theodora De Ver is a pink pixie unlike any other pixie on Earth. Her tale and stalwart determination are inspiring. Dominic Dane is a werewolf who seems, to her, to hold her in disdain. Now she's required to pretend to be his girlfriend for an undercover mission. The miscommunication between them is frequently downright painful at times. A few scenes are smoking hot. I've kind of gotten used to the author's style of unsatisfying endings which happen early in her series.

Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Funny. Great world building. Inspirational. Romantic. Scary. Steamy. Tragic. Twisted. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

ok

I had a feeling this book wasn’t going to be that terrific just by the name of the book. I was definitely right about that. I was a little bit disappointed in the author because I know she can write better books than this one. I don’t know if it is or not but it definitely seems like it fit into the Y a category in some areas. It was interesting how the book started out and I liked that part but after that it kind of got a little bit high school like. Teddy is a pink pixie that finds herself working in an office where there is so much gossip you would think that they were still in high school. When she finally ends up going on a mission her and Dominic end up in some compromising positions. I don’t think I’m going to read the second book of this series.

I really liked this urban fantasy. Lots of mythical creatures and a couple that I adored. The story had a nice twist at the end and the plot made it hard to put the book down (don't be like me and decide to start it at 11 pm with the plan to just read a couple of chapters or you'll be up way to late like I was). Note that this is part of series, and while the immediate plot was finished, the larger plot and the romance will be ongoing in future books. Overall, a story that brought humor, suspense, and feeling. *I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Pixies and Werewolves

DN Hoxa strikes again! What a great first book to start a series. Teddy and Dominic are two characters separated from their clan/pack for different reasons but end up in the same place in time. But after what should have been a great start, Dom acts like Teddy doesn’t exist and Teddy thinks Dom is an ass for it. Little do either of them know how much their worlds are going to change!

Hoxa, as usual, takes you on a wonderful ride through her world building with intricate characters, red herrings, and emotional roller coasters.

Without giving away the story, Teddy and Dom set out on a mission that will change everything.

I can’t wait for book 2!

This book was a mystery book with a hint of a slow burn romance.
Teddy becomes and ODP agent after leaving home to make a difference. She meets Dominic on her first day but their relationship isn't smooth sailing. She finally gets picked for a mission and Dominic joins her. Together they try to catch high fae responsible for murdering a tech mogul.
Overall this book was very good! The spice was 1/5 but the slow burn relationship between Teddy and Dominic was cute. Teddy was a little naive and about 70% through I figured out the plot twists. It does end on a cliffhanger so Dominic and Teddy's story isn't over yet!

This was an interesting read. The world building was intriguing but the characters were just eh to me. They fmc was whiny, especially in relation to the mmc who was really just annoyingly, fakely macho. Neither character really made me care about them and the fmc really only got better when she was snatched, I know the ending also existed in this form to make you want the next in the series but all it did was annoy me enough not to care what happens next.

Like I said the world was interesting and with better character development this could be a good series I just don't have it in me to wait and hope that the characters become ones I care about.

JFC WHY!?!

Teddy is a pixie. She’s in some super spy job. She acts like a 4 year old. Her stream of consciousness is tedious. She’s supposed to be professional, but stomps around on the mission trying to “stick it to” Dominic. She takes pictures while she’s on a mission. Wonders if she’ll have a day off. She says she’s competent but then does things like that. She is so hard to like. She has “LDS” female style. Grow up. Why do authors write adult females as these stroppy, child like idiots who just have to get back at the world for everything?! My kingdom for a healthy relationship…..

Teddy is a pixie who has been stuck behind a desk for far longer than she likes. When she finally gets a chance to be a field agent she thinks she has it made, but then she is assigned a partner who is the one who humiliated her on her first day on the job. She remains determined to finish her first mission anyway, with the help of lots and lots of chocolate. I love her attitude and monologues. There is also a whole host of quirky interesting characters to go along with her and make the story even better.

This series kept popping up on my socials and I’m so glad I decided to start it! The world building was fun and the diverse characters made jumping into the story so much better.
Teddy is so fun/relatable (I mean, who doesn’t pep talk out loud?) She’s such an outcast building her own life even with strangers in dark closets being assholes 😉

Speaking of…DOMINIC. 🥵🥵 this Wolf-Ass had me all kinds of messed up but in the best possible way! The tension between these two and his reaction to the hotel room 👀 was perfect! The end had me a little…unhinged….but I’m so excited for book 2!

I enjoyed reading it. Al the beginning it was quite slow and teddy just put me off with all the whining and always victimizing herself. But then the growth she has throughout the story is cute and nice to see. It’s a book I enjoyed reading and will be reading the next part but not one of my favorites. Would recommend if you are looking for a quick reading including werewolves and other species. It is the type of book that you enjoyed reading but at the end of the month or year you probably would not remember.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters. Teddy is a pixie who wants a different life and Dominic wants one thing revenge. When Teddy & Dominic meets their is a connection but they don’t act on n it. Dominic and Teddy are so good together and definitely hoping for an HEA. The ending omg what did I read. I feel like there should be an epilogue because I need too know what happens too Dom & Teddy. But overall a good read.

I loved Teddy, a pixie who just didn’t fit in making her own way in the big city. She is used to being under appreciated but when she is needed for a job she is going to use it to get what she wants too bad she has to deal with a good looking jerk of a werewolf to succeed.
The story sucked me in and kept me there until the very last page upon which I threw my kindle across the room. I cannot wait for the next installment.

Not A Typical Finish

Spoiler: This has a cliffhanger at the end. That being said it was a treat to read. A tortured make who was carved like a greek statue. The female who wants more from life than what others think she should. This is the beginning of their story. I found it a little slow at the start but then it picked up its pace. It comes with some twists, suspense as well as mystery. Now on two book two.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I was expecting it to be much sillier. The story kept me intrigued, and I liked the main characters. The world the author created is really interesting. It did end on a bit of a cliffhanger, no HEA. So if that’s not your jam, probably don’t read this. I’m sure I’ll read the other books eventually, as I’d like to see where the story goes. But I don’t feel the need to devour them right away.

No. A big no. This is one of the most PATHETIC heroines. Just unbearable. And the hero is an uncommunicative mess. I hate everything about their dynamic. The mission BARELY made sense. I read the whole book. The one star is deserved. Of COURSE they’re not together in the end. OFCOURSE. I bet she’ll go and cry in the bathroom about it and make stupid little grey marks in her journal and be even MORE PATHETIC.

I really liked this story. Teddy was a riot and made me laugh. Loved her inner and outspoken monologues. I thought this story was a riot with its mix of quirky characters. A great bit of mystery and action as Teddy gets the chance to be an active agent finally. Entertaining and made me laugh a lot.

I received an ARC of this book and I’m freely writing this review.

I loved this book!! There’s just enough world building for it to be interesting and enough angsty build up between Dominick and Teddy for the story to be hot! It’s an enemies to lovers, one bed trope and that is just the beginning. Ends on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to read book two!

Theodora "Teddy" De Ver is a pink pixie working for The OPD and has never been on a mission. Even if her parents think otherwise. Teddy's about to go on her first mission only to have Dominic Dane tell her he's her partner now. Can Teddy and Dominic work together or not? Find out in Werewolves Like Pink Too.

Great start to a series

This book kept my attention from page 1 til the end. Teddy is a misfit pixie who just wanted to fit in somewhere. Dominic is a werewolf on a mission to get revenge for his family. That's all I'm gonna say about that. You definitely need to read it yourself. But, oof, that cliffhanger hurt. Luckily, the rest of the series is out.

Enemies to lovers, werewolf and a pink pixie with a hellava lot of moxie all her own. Like if your favorite crime show was set in a fantasy world based in Earth. There is heat and fire and lots of sparks and adventure....just watch out for that last page though...because you are going to NEED the next book right away!

This was a fun read. I like it because….. Dominic and TeddyDeVer makes a great couple. All TeddyDeVer just needs to be able to get her first assignment, with out any hiccups.
She is a pixie going after a guy that doesn’t want to work with her. Werewolves, pixies, going through with the assignment will be tough to handle.
