Amazing feel-good age-gap romance with lots of love in it. Dru and Marina are a devoted couple and very much in sync with each other. They make a lovely couple.

Highly recommend.

The start to a new series from the author which in short order promised lots of heat woven into an intriguing storyline.
The main characters in this hot romance are Dru, daughter of a crime boss until she paid the price then disappeared and Marina, prima realtor. Escaping from the confines and illegal dealing of her family was Dru's focus. Having served her time, starting a new life and career is all important but she can't help thinking if she'll ever fall in love and find someone who loves her (despite her past and connections) in return. Marina has had her own share of disappointments too and her family would like to see her settled down and as happy as the rest of them.
Dru is set up with her first job working for a staging company preparing houses for sale. The two women meet in what becomes known as "the ladder house" (read the book and you'll make the connection) and the attraction is instant and hot. That first interaction becomes much more and as their relationship deepens and friendship circle widens Dru wonders if a future is possible with Marina. She needs to come clean about her past and hope for the best.
Rick, Shelby and Wilson stand out in secondary roles as does Marina's family. Marina's strength and compassion shine through. With her support for Dru surely a HEA is in the cards. Learning about the staging business, the pressures and expectations involved with running a family business trying to go legit, starting over, love, lust and lots of bedroom heat are all part of this romance and I loved it.
Ms. Moody, you've entered torrid territory! Bring on book 2 quickly, please. Recommend with 5 hot stars.

I rec'd a copy from the author. This is a voluntary, unbiased review.

I am a huge Jamey Moody fan since day one. I have seen her grow and I will always be in awe of her. My heart got filled so many time through her books. I just always know that she won’t ever disappoint me. I know I will be happier than I was before I started reading a book by her.

Once again this is exactly what happened. I was even more in awe this time because what we get here is something new. Jamey Moody is famous for the sweetness in her books and the absence of unnecessary drama. We get this once again, so no worries on that front. But we also get more heat than we ever got before. Let me tell you Dru‘s and Marina‘s first meeting won’t leave you could. There is this instant chemistry that never went away for the rest of the book.

What we also get is a bit of a crime background. Dru coming from a criminal family spent the last years in prison and actually just wants to live a peaceful life. But with her family still out there somewhere she can’t ever feel really secure. Marina gives her confidence and security. Both are each other’s person. One they never thought they would meet. Marina being a few years older actually had almost given up. But like I already said this changes instantly. As instant as it might seem, I loved how the story was built up from there. What starts with some hot and heavy moments between the characters develops more and more to something else. The way Jamey Moody makes her characters fall in love is one I won’t ever get enough of.

Not to forget aside from them falling in love there is (like I already said) this dark cloud hanging above their heads. A dark cloud that is Dru‘s family. This brings some additional excitement to the story, one I definitely appreciated very much. It will make you turn the pages and wonder if and when the shoe drops.

I will stop now because you know read it for yourself. Once again this is another story I highly recommend by Jamey Moody. For me she is so very talented and I’m so grateful I discovered her more than two years ago. 🥰

Oh what I almost forgot. This is book one in a series that is called Second Chances. I definitely can see Shelby and also Ella getting their own stories. Hints about one are actually hidden in this book and I can’t wait. 😍

I received an advance reader copy from the author and voluntarily leaving a review.

DNF when at 11% in and literal minutes of meeting the two love interests are fucking. At work. In a house that isn't theirs. Without any preamble. Like WTF???

I don't think this author is for me. I've tried a few now but always end up being way too shocked and annoyed - which is my own tastes clashing with the content.

Dru gave up everything by going to prison to escape her mafioso family. Marina is a highly successful realtor. Dru goes to work at a staging company for realtors. Dru and Marina meet on Dru's first day staging a home for Marina. Their attraction is immediate.

Jamey Moody makes your heart sing with this book. The love between Dru and Marina is forever. And the sex is so hot! Two passionate and loving women that you'd love to have in your life. This is definitely a 5 star book.

A second chance at life!

Jamey Moody has done it again! I wish I could give this book more than five stars. Who would have thought a book about members of a mafia family could be so loving? To this reader, the running theme of this book is sharing great life lessons that everyone is worthy of love and happiness. It's how you face these lessons and move forward in life!

Jamey's writing is sweet, tender and loving. Her characters are so genuine that I want them as friends. The lovemaking was hot, passionate and full of forever. And honestly, the kissing... I have never read more kissing in another novel! This story was a beautiful journey from beginning to end and I absolutely loved it!!! Brava, Jamey! ❤

Author Jamey Moody
The Woman at the Top of the Stairs
MC Dru Rae & Marina Summit

Jamey Books always put me in a good mood and lift my spirits. Thank you Jamey.

This is a lovely book about redemption, a fresh start and showing grace and compassion. When you love a person no matter what they have done in their past, give them a chance. You never know what people have been through. Why they made the decisions that had to be made at the time. Love is the key word this book.

This book is not like any of Jamey’s previous books. Dru wanted a new beginning, to be set free and with that there’s a price to pay.

Sometimes having a family can feel like a weight around your neck . Dru is guarded and is nervous about anyone finding out about her family.

Marina is a force of nature. She’s a realtor at the top of her game. Dru and Marina meet at an open house.

Marina was so taken with Dru, but didn’t want to rush things.
They just clicked. Instant attraction. The heat between them was like an inferno.

The supporting characters are so kind and helped maintain a safe environment for both Dru and Marina .This story really touched my heart. It deals with acceptance, new beginnings, and forgiveness.

Thank you to Jamey Moody. Your books always put a smile on my face. The stories you write touch my heart 💜! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ! It Deserves 10 stars maybe even 20.

This is a fine romance, full of relatable characters and heartfelt drama. Dru and Marina are ordinary women in extraordinary circumstances. They aren’t afraid of life’s challenges, and they’re willing to navigate through the tough stuff to get what they want—and what they want is a chance with each other. The passion jumps off the page, giving readers an intensely emotional read start to finish.

This is my first book by Jamey Moody, and it won’t be my last. The writing is smooth and strong, with tight, well-scripted dialogue. The characters are well-formed and fleshed out. It’s a dynamic ensemble, and readers find them intriguing as well as appealing. What’s more, the narrative is engaging, relatable and charged; it’s sensual while remaining true to the story arc. Readers are left with a passion filled romance meant to satisfy as well as entertain.

Besides being emotionally satisfying, The Woman at the Top of the Stairs is fresh and original. Moody is a clever writer and she’s penned an intriguing story, one that grabs readers by the feels and surprises them with its ending. The storytelling is distinct, yet romantic, stirring a compelling desire on the page. This is a captivating story, to be sure, tenderly told and creatively crafted.

I appreciate much about this story, but what I like best is it isn’t completely predictable. Yes, it’s a romance and readers still get their happy ending; they’re just surprised by the journey. Moody keeps the tension tight and elevates the emotion; readers are immersed into the emotional lives of these ladies. What’s more, their chemistry is steamy—hot really—and it fans the romance ever so nicely. Their sizzle is a whole new level of satisfying sensuality.

Final thoughts…

This is the ultimate escape, one where passion meets second chances and new beginnings. If you like stories about courageous women that use their intellect and talent to overcome life’s challenges, then this one will appeal to you. It’s stirring as well as page turning.

Strengths…

Irresistible leading ladies
Passionately told
A fresh twist on contemporary romance
Courageous, yet complicated characters
Sizzling and sensual chemistry
Strong internal and external conflicts
Satisfying ending

TLDR: A decent beginning that nosedives by making the reader a third wheel to endless PDA and platitudes.

Attempting to review this is like rating two books independently. The first 33% is 4 stars, but the last 66% is 3 stars. Why is this?

Let me be frank, there are issues throughout this book, but the introduction is clear and focused. The budding relationship is sweet and I liked the protagonists. Both are strong, mostly confident women who know what they want from their lives. This was a nice change from characters who are constantly plagued by low self-esteem. It's fine to be flawed and have challenges to overcome, but that doesn't require intense self-loathing. Also, there's some great double entendres throughout the first 33%.

However, the romance is borderline paranormal in how quickly the characters fall into, "You're the best thing that has ever happened to me" logic. In fact, the first sex scene gave me literary whiplash. I was convinced it must be a dream because how on Earth does it make sense for two characters to get down 5 minutes after meeting each other? Or should I say, "get up?" There was a ladder involved.

I was able to stifle my disbelief and accept that sometimes love happens at first sight. To someone. Not me. I only know lust at first sight. I have to know someone to love them. So, I waited to see how the relationship might develop before unearthing my pitchforks and torches. Fortunately, the author does a very good job making sure there is more than sexual attraction at the center of the relationship. Hooray.

However, then the story devolves into something that is overly saccharine. It becomes pages of dialogue wherein the characters obsess endlessly over one another. At first it's really lovely to witness. I love romance. That's why I read this. Then it becomes chapter after chapter of the same conversations with zero plot development. So, it's like standing next to your best friend while she makes out with her partner and they gaze longingly at each other and you start wondering, "Do I need to be here?" I love a steamy sex scene, but this is just straight up ogling.

A new life would take doing the unthinkable.

I was given an ARC copy to read and as usual Jamey Moody did not disappoint. This is an overwhelming story of vulnerable perseverance for the character and loving Dru was just so easy. Dru did not want to be in the family business but her way out was not going to be easy. The journey she takes is full of twists but it is just such a great story. It is a departure from the authors usual but so very good. I don't want to give the story away but when she meets Marina the life she wants begins to unfold. They have an instant connection that only grows. Marina is a real estate broker and Dru works for a staging company that helps sell houses. This book is steamier than usual but is part of their strong connection. They both were not really looking for a relationship but a chance meeting with a woman at the top of the stairs changes their world. I loved cheering Dru on as she made the life she wanted. Together the encouraged and supported each other. The way Marina supported Dru as she shared family issues was beautiful. They shared a passion that was hot and yet the inner struggles were real. Jamey Moody has characters who dialogue through the the issues and bring out the best in each other. A great read I found hard to put down.

We meet Dru, at a breaking point in life, her father just died, she has to keep working for her brother and his illegal activities.
When the FBI arrests her, she calls a friend assistant DA, to support her in breaking up the family bond.

When she leaves prison, she gets a job at Shelbys staging and Style.
Where she cleans up and stage houses which are up for sale.
At her first house she meets Marina a sexy hot retailer.
They hit it off, Dru is scared to let Marina in,
Eventually she does, it’s still scary to look over her shoulder if her brother is checking on her.

It’s a great story, amazing characters, I hope this will be a series,
I want to know how the story continues with Gia and Ella, Shelby and Victoria and Amber.

Give me a sapphic romance that moves forward in a straight line without any real black moments and I'm hooked. This is exactly that and what's even better it's love at first sight for two highly unlikely candidates. But what I really like about this is the plot, two strong feminine women meeting under difficult cicumstances but on equal terms, my dream, too. A great read, wonderful writing. Now on for volume two.

This is a delightfully steamy age gap romance that reinforces that a chance meeting can be the start of an amazing new life. Dru and Marina were perfect for one another and I loved that this book was about their journey. There was no unnecessary drama or angst, just a whole lot of love and sweet endearments. Well done Jamey Moody. I look forward to reading about Shelby next!

cute!

Things got heated fast… don’t get me wrong it was hot and definitely good but there was no real climax… the character is from a questionable family so why not insert some drama some danger there or something….

The start of a Jamey Moody series I haven’t read. It reminds me a lot of her Lover’s Landing series. Mature women in their 30s and 40s, very little angst and lots of expressions of love and loving. Dru gets out of federal prison in Dallas after taking the fall for money laundering for her crime family. She changes her name and wants no contact with her past all though she misses her mom. She catches some breaks thanks to an old DA pal. She goes to work for a design company that stages houses for selling. While finishing up a staging job she meets the beautiful Marina who is the realtor for the house. It goes beyond instant attraction immediately. Honestly, you have to suspend your logical mind at how easily these two come together and how fortunate Dru’s parole situation works.

Not withstanding the far-fetched set up, the connection and chemistry between the MCs is great. There is time for conversations and getting dressed up for a real first date. I like it includes simple things like a hikes, bike rides or a swim. Shelby is Dru’s boss and Marina’s best friend. She is great at supporting both women and I’m guessing she will be the MC in the next book. I’m not sure how Marina is so trusting from someone right out of prison and I was surprised that is never brought up as an issue. And I was a little disappointed that there isn’t some drama from Dru’s past, but I don’t think that is what Moody writes. My logical mind wants me to mark down the story for being so unlikely but my easy going side who wants to escape into a nicely written romance is winning out.

If you are ever feeling down. Need to believe things can get better. Read a Jamey Moody book. This is one of my favorites of her books. Probably till the next one come out. Dru's comes from a criminal family. She knows she wants no part of it, but her brother will not let her leave. When a chance comes to go to prison and keep a couple of his guys out jail. She takes it. And after a name change she disappears. After 9 years she is released to new start. When Dru and Marina first set eyes on each other there is a strong connection. I just enjoyed reading about this love so much. It is a true love you can just feel will last forever. There are ups and downs. Struggles to get through. But you can just tell they will make it. That is why I love reading Jamey's books. Something to believe. I did receive an ARC but these are my own thoughts.

Oh Wow - I loved this book from start to finish, couldn’t put it down.
Dru endured a stint in prison in order to get away from her mafia family, so she went to prison. She is now out and gets a job as a house stager. On her first day in the job she meets Marina and Dru knows she is the one she has been waiting for. I love all Ms Moody’s books, but for me, this is the best. The writing is so poetic and the storyline so compelling. A must read, would highly recommend.

Jamey Moody is known for her books to contain angst, love and a bit of drama and this book is no different. The characters work well together, and the plot contains a few twists and turns.

Dru Rae gave up everything to get away from her mafioso family. She made a deal with her DA friend, took the fall for the family, and spent 8 years in prison.
With the deal, she changed her name so her brother couldn’t find her.

When she was released, her DA friend, Rick, set her up with a probation officer her knew about her situation and gave her an address to meet him at. From that meeting, he provided her with a place to rent and set her up with a job as a house stager. Her boss, Shelby, owned the business that gave jobs to ex-cons.

On the first day of her new job, Dru was waiting to meet the realtor for a final walk through. As she was finishing hanging pictures upstairs, she heard the door open and went to see who was coming in. From the top of the stairs, Dru looked down to see the most beautiful woman she had ever seen.

Marina Summit, a very successful, well known real estate agent and well known in the housing market. Marina was considered what you would call a “player” and was too busy for love. She gave someone two dates and if there was no “spark,” she moved on to someone else. On her way to approve a new listing, she decided to stop and see how the house staging was coming along.

Marina wasn’t at all prepared for the way her heart reacted when she saw the woman at the top of the stairs. One thing led to another, and I will not give a spoiler, but you’ll enjoy the events that unfold.

Dru and Marina started seeing each other, but not without Dru constantly looking over her shoulder in fear to make sure her brother hadn’t found her.
She was afraid that if he found her, it would endanger the friends she was making at the staging company.

To find out everything in between and what happens with Dru, Marina, Shelby, and the business she works for, you won’t regret picking up a copy and enjoying the story that unfolds.

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

This book is the 1st in a new series by Jamey Moody. I read several of her books by now and I can tell you this one is a bit bolder, in a good way :)
How is it different? Most of Moody’s books are romantic and sweet to the core. They have very little steam and practice closed-door scenes (mostly fade to black). While the chemistry and affection between the MCs are well written, the sex is not explicit. But this new series brings a promise of change: At the very beginning of the book (chapter 3) we have an open-door sex scene in a semi-public place. OMG! I did not know Jamey Moody had it in her!!
Need I say that I LOVE it?
I really hope this is going to be the same in the whole series. Even sweet characters deserve some explosive heat.

So, be warned, while you still get the soft, romantic, low-angst sweet story, as usual, you’ll also get several explicit sex scenes throughout the book. This does not mean that this is an erotic novel. It is not. It’s just a little bit of steam adding spice to the story. And it makes the story much much better!
I also love that there’s a little bit of suspense because of Dru’s fear of her family. Of course, it gets resolved in the sweetest way possible, don’t fret, Moody is not gonna keep us on our toes too long.
I love that Moody is changing her regular pace. I also love that she already spread a few hints for the upcoming books in the series and I can’t wait to read them.
I don’t love the conflict resolution, while it is sweet and really lovely, it is not very realistic in my view. This is why I gave the book only 4 stars.

T&T:
Tropes: Age gap, one night to forever
Triggers: explicit sex, prison time (off page), family conflicts, almost sexual assault (stopped b4 it takes place)

Disclaimer: I received an ARC in exchanged for an honest review.

I'm a big fan of Jamey, love all her books, and this one certainly did not disappoint. Grabbed me for the first line and held me through the entire book, I truly could not put it down, it was 1am and I'm thinking one more chapter.
After a stint in prison, Dru, a Mafia princess running away from her mafia family, has a very hot encounter with Marina, a realtor. From there their love took off. As much as Marina said she would be Dru's protector Dru kept looking over her shoulder for trouble and as was I as I turned each page. I believe it was that little bit of angst that kept me so enthralled in the book. The book was about love, trust, family and enough hotness to satisfy. A must read!!

I really enjoyed this book. The start to me was a little rough as one of the main characters has had a tough go of things. I felt like some of the books i have been reading lately, a lot of the characters were kind of running together. Not so here. It seemed the characters in this book stood out and I found myself thinking of them individually and not how they were similar to characters in other books that i have read. Several of the scenes stood out as they were depicted so well i could picture them even after finishing the book. I am sure I will read it again at some point.

This story had me engaged from beginning to end. I couldn't stop reading this book! I found myself looking over Dru's shoulder at every picture snapped or when credit cards were used. I just knew that Dru's family would track her down in Texas. Thankfully, Dru's lawyer friend, Rick, did a great job of hiding her tracks. Dru had made a huge sacrifice to get away from her family. But it paid off as she was able to meet and begin a relationship with Marina. This story will confirm your hope in family, courage and sacrifice. But mostly it will affirm your faith in love and all that love entails. I highly recommend this book!

This lesfic romance seemed so promising at first. I thought that the set-up was extremely interesting because having a crime angle in a romcom is original. But all too soon the story developed into the pastel fantasy of so many romance novels, with 2 Mary Sue main characters competing to see who can be more loving and supportive. Moody is a good writer and she does a good job with the steamier scenes.
I listened to The Woman at the Top of the Stairs as an audiobook, which is not listed as an edition. Narrator Tessa Stavers does a solid job, with enough vocal variety to differentiate the characters but not so much as to be distracting.
