The eleventh action adventure romantic suspense from award-winning author Terry Odell.
It’s supposed to be a simple assignment aboard a luxury yacht, but soon, he’s in over his head.
Private investigator Dante Russo is content working in the Security and Investigations Department at Blackthorne, Inc., where risks are low. But when the former head of the company hand picks him for an international “Find and Retrieve” assignment to locate his missing grand-nephew, Dante has no choice but to accept. Even though it means being far away from home for several weeks, Dante needs his job to support his aging grandmother. What should be a pleasant cruise on a luxury yacht turns into something far more than he ever expected—or is qualified to handle. Putting his job on the line is one thing, but he never expected his life to be in danger.
When Belinda Novak’s fiancé learned she had cancer, he took off. After being in remission for two years, she sets off on a dream cruise on the Adriatic Sea to absorb her heritage. To discover the new Belinda. Her imagination runs wild as she wonders what her ancestors’ lives might have been like. When she meets a handsome stranger on board the yacht, there’s something mysterious about him, something Belinda can’t put her finger on. Her wacky sense of humor should keep him from getting serious. A shipboard romance is out of the question. She’s not going to get burned a second time. She survived cancer but will he put her in an entirely different kind of danger?
Terry Odell was born in Los Angeles and after living several decades in Florida now makes her home in Colorado. An avid reader (her parents tell everyone they had to move from their first home because she finished the local library), she always wanted to "fix" stories so the characters did what she wanted, in books, television, and the movies. Once she began writing, she found this wasn't always possible, as evidenced when the mystery she intended to write rapidly became a romance.
However, her entry into the world of writing can be attributed to a "mistake" when her son mentioned the Highlander television series on a visit home. Being the "good mother" she began watching the show and soon connected with the world of fanfiction, first as a reader, then as a critique giver, and then, one brave weekend, she wrote her first short story.
Things snowballed (if one can use that analogy in central Florida!) and soon she was writing her first original novel. Much later, she mentioned something about a recent Highlander episode to her son, and he said, "Oh, I've never actually watched the show, I just thought the concept was cool." Little did he know what he'd started.
Terry Odell has a gift for writing sympathetic characters and then putting them in bad situations. Cruising Undercover is no exception. Dante Russo works for the elite Blackthorne security company designing high-end security systems, not the Covert Ops side. So he's surprised when he's given the task of going undercover to find the owner's nephew. On a cruise ship, no less.
After recovering from cancer and chemo treatments, Belinda Novak treats herself to a cruise--to Croatia to connect with her ancestors and gets caught up in Dante's undercover operation.
As she sees his strength, she believes she might be able to fall in love again...but truth is important to Belinda, and Dante's undercover operation works against the romance. I loved watching both the drama of the romance play against the danger as they get closer to the truth.
Odell takes the reader on a page-turning journey of danger and romance. A great romantic suspense read.
Cruising Undercover: A Covert Ops Romantic Suspense (Blackthorne, Inc. Book 11) by Terry Odell is an enjoyable read. It has everything you would want in a story. Adventure warm likable characters, romance, danger, and suspense. The cruise s fun to read about as it happens with Belinda and Dante meeting. However, it is after the cruise that the real action begins to take place keeping you reading.
Besides the danger and suspense Belinda’s past is somewhat a mystery too. Over time she reveals it to Dante so we learn of it too. I enjoyed the way that played out in the story. You would first think that any mystery to the main characters would be with Dante because of his work so this was well done.
For an exotic location adventure that changes into one of peril Cruising Undercover is the book to read. It is certainly an entertaining that will encourage you to be careful in your own travels.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it. What starts out as a way for Belinda to find herself and a job for Dante turns into an adventure that neither of them counts on.
Belinda and Dante meet on a cruise in the Adriatic, exploring Croatia. There is an attraction, but each is a little wary of the other, especially as Dante is working undercover as an operative for Blackwell, Inc. Since he is tasked with finding the nephew of the founder, he is especially careful with his assignment and continually baffles and pushes away Belinda, who is recovering from her own rejection and physical ailments. The story unfolds naturally and continues to draw in and intrigue the reader as the characters and the readers alike seek to unfold the mystery. I like that Belinda continues to grow in strength, finding her way after many trials. Dante also grows more confident in his job abilities. The ending was unexpected and a satisfactory conclusion was reached. I received and ARC of this book. I have chosen to review it honestly and all opinions are my own.
It wasn’t supposed to be a complicated case for Dante Russo of Blackthorne, Inc., but it ended up being challenging, dangerous and a chance at love! Dante is taking a cruise on a luxury yacht to locate the missing great nephew of the founder of Blackthorne, no pressure, right? He is looking forward earning the bonus as the rates have gone up for his Nonna at her independent living home. He didn’t expect to be kidnapped, threatened or fall in love, but he managed to do all that and so much more. Belinda Novak has survived cancer, but still has some issues due to the effects of chemotherapy. She is looking forward to the cruise and once she meets Dante, looking forward to spending time with him, but not the kidnapping, etc., etc. Will he be able to complete his mission and keep Belinda safe? A lot is happening in this story, so pay attention and enjoy the ride! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation, from the author, for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
The first half of this book takes the reader on a cruise of the Adriatic, around Croatia, as PI Dante goes in search of the missing nephew of Horace Blackthorne. Only one problem - the nephew isn't aboard the cruise he was reported to be taking. Belinda is on the cruise after surviving cancer. Time to leave the sick and mistreated old persona behind as she embraces her new life to rediscover her strength and confidence. Her quirky imagination and sense of adventure appeal to Dante, but he's on the job. As the cruise comes to an end, Dante asks her to dinner in Dubrovnik before he tries to figure out where his elusive target might have gone. He finds out sooner than he expects when both he and Belinda are taken captive. The second half of the book is more familiar territory to Ms. Odell's Blackthorne fans. Fast paced and on the edge as the covert ops team becomes involved in the action.
Cruising Undercover by Terry Odell is the eleventh installment in the Blackthorne, Inc. series. Private Investigator Dante Russo is sent on an undercover assignment to Croatia to find the former head of the company’s grand nephew. Aboard an Adriatic Sea cruise, he meets Belinda Novak, who is on vacation trying to forget her past while immersing herself in her heritage. There are many twists and turns and the ending is a surprise! Can Dante and Belinda let go of the past and rely on each other for the future? I received an advance copy of this book, and am voluntarily reviewing it.
This is the first book I have read in this series and it was a page turner! Dante accepted this mission because he was picked by the former head of the company and he needs the job to support his grandmother. There is a lot of action, twists and turns, a kidnapping and a great action packed ending. This is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat, how are they going to get out of this situation book. A fantastic read! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Terry Odell is a master at creating interesting and enthralling characters. Their quirks and idiosyncrasies played both for and against them. The plot had everything, romance, danger, suspense, plenty of twists and a brilliant ending. I had no hesitation in giving Cruising Undercover 5 stars. The book is so good that I will read it again.
