Charleston Heat #4

Southern Heartbreaker

Rate this book
He was the bad boy I fell for in college. Now he’s a sexy single dad and Charleston’s most successful venture capitalist. Dominant and decisive, Ford Montgomery is used to getting what he wants. And he just set his sights on me...

Ford Montgomery was my first everything.
First love.
First guy I slept with.
First heartbreak when he dumped me without explanation.

A decade later, it’s just my luck he’s the first guy I run into after moving back to my hometown of Charleston. Three piece suit, tie, and a watch worth more than my car—being a mogul looks good on Ford. So does being a doting dad to his adorable four-year-old daughter.

I tell myself I can resist him. But one impulsive, ill-advised kiss later, and Ford is in hot pursuit. He’s determined to make up for his past mistakes, and convinces me to give him a second chance.

What started as fun between the sheets gets really serious, really fast. Problem is, I swore I’d never give up the dreams I worked so hard for to settle down and do the family thing.

But seeing Ford light up around his daughter—seeing how he’s chasing his ambitions while rocking fatherhood—is making me rethink what I want out of life.

It doesn’t help that behind his corporate veneer is the bad boy I fell in love with. And bad boys aren’t afraid to play dirty...or break hearts.

SOUTHERN HEARTBREAKER is a full-length, STANDALONE romance. It is part of the Charleston Heat Series, which is a series of interconnected standalone novels set in the steamy southern town of Charleston, South Carolina. The books can be read in any order.

RATING 4.5 STARS

Southern Heartbreaker is book four in the Charleston Heat series by Jessica Peterson. This is a second chance romance that definitely can be read as a stand alone. The characters from the previous books do recur though and if you haven’t already, you really need to check out their stories in the first three books.

Eva Lacy is a thirty two year old self employed pit master, which means she is a master of the barbecue pit. She wrote her first cook book which turned out to be a best seller and is now fast approaching a deadline on her second book but just can’t seem to settle on a concept for it. So Eva decided to move back home to Charleston. She is hoping living closer to her family and friends will help to inspire her.

female pitmaster

Ford Montgomery is Grey’s brother from book three. Ford is a widowed single father of a four year old, completely adorable little girl. Ford took a lengthy absence from the company he shares with his brother to grieve and take care of his daughter. But now with Grey about to become a father himself, Ford is back to work full time while still trying to juggle being a full time dad.

sexy man in a suit - Google Search

It was Grey and Julia’s baby shower when Ford and Eva ran into each other. They knew it was inevitable with Eva being back in town. Ford and Eva had been madly in love back in college and were together for three years. But then Ford broke Eva’s heart. One look at Eva and he knew he needed to get to know her again, spend time with her. The spark they shared a decade ago is still as strong as ever and Ford wants to see where it takes them.

Southern Heartbreaker (Charleston Heat, #4) by Jessica Peterson | Goodreads

Eva never thought she would be able to forgive Ford for hurting her back in college. But clearly he’s a different man, a better man. He’s a suit wearing business man, and he’s a father. Eva watched the sacrifices her mother made while raising her two daughters. Eva’s career, her dreams are everything to her. She doesn’t want to give up on any of it. So being a parent is not something she wants for herself. But as soon as Ford came back into her life, it makes her question everything.

“His steadiness, his quiet confidence, is a much needed reminder of the steadiness I have inside myself.”

couple on a sail boat

Together Ford and Eva find something in each other that they both needed and wanted. They inspire one another. They balance one another. And, they are as hot as fire! The chemistry they shared all those years ago has only intensified with time. But both of their lives are insane. Is it even possible to fit in a relationship with everything else?

This was so good. Ford was so swoony. Not just his overall hotness and let me tell you, he had plenty of that. But also just the man he was, how he was with his little girl, how he was with Eva. And I loved the way he inspired Eva with her cookbook!

Eva’s struggles were real. Her struggles with wanting to achieve her own dreams, but also wanting more, wanting love, family. She is a perfectionist which makes everything even more complicated. Eva, as so many women, wants everything and struggles to figure out how to make it all fit.

This was fun, sexy, and made me hungry with all the talk of Eva’s recipes. That is one of the things I love about this series, all the focus on fabulous food. But it’s also a very real book with the struggles both Ford and Eva face while trying to find their way together. As always, I also loved revisiting all the characters from the previous books. I enjoyed this so much just as I did the other books in the series. If you haven’t yet, I hope you will check this series out!

No thanks

This book just isn’t a romance. It’s really not romantic at all, at least not for these characters. Maybe for the H and his first wife? The H dumped the h in college (after TWO YEARS together) because he felt that she suddenly wasn’t ambitious enough. He then moves away and meets and falls in love with the woman (the complete opposite from her) that he basically dumped her for even if he hadn’t met her yet. His ideal woman... They met at work, and had the same career drive. He truly fell in love with the h’s opposite and had a great marriage! He definitely wasn’t missing the h. When his wife passed away right after his daughter was born, he was so devastated that he withdrew from the world, left his job, could barely function and was in therapy to deal with losing her for THREE YEARS! He tells the h most of this on first night he spends any time with her. I just couldn’t buy their romantic relationship after that. He moved on too quickly and too seriously from our h to ever believe he really loved her. The nail in the coffin of this “romance” is that he would have very happily lived without her for the rest of his life if his wife hadn’t died. It’s doubtful that he would have given her another thought at all. I know there are all types of heroes and stories. But to me, it different to believe someone has moved on and ready for a new relationship after tragedy, than it is to believe that they belong with someone they replaced so easily once already. This story (or at least his part) just doesn’t work as a second chance novel! The author is a decent writer, but just isn’t a very good storyteller. Her characters possibly could have worked with other people, but the way this is written, it’s a dud.

You guys! We’re back in Charleston, ya’ll!! And it’s a delicious single dad/second chance romance (that’s like combining two of my favorite troupes into one! Let’s dig in girlies…

Ford and Eva…oh m geeeeee! We’ve been craving this since Southern Gentleman, right? Jessica dangled this carrot right in our face to get us salivating for these two. Knowing that they had a history, and to find Ford now a single dad?? I mean, come on. I couldn’t wait to dive in!
Don’t worry, Jessica’s signature style is still here. We have a new historical novel by Olivia to lead us through Ford and Eva’s story, and you wanna know what? I think it’s my FAVORITE! Sign me up for a copy of My Marriage to the Marquess!!! How does she do it?!?! It’s honestly my favorite part in this awesome series…besides the food…and the sex, the sex is really good to 😊

I have a soft spot in my heart about making family what you want it to look like. Seeing not only Eva and Ford fall for one another again, but to see Eva fall for Bryce…heartMELT.

I’m going to be honest for a second. This series has taken me by surprise. These books aren’t just about the broody sexy tatted up chef, or the brother’s best friend, or the surprise pregnancy or the single dad romances. This series has evolved and provides empowerment to the women that read them. We read about how we can go after our dreams, even when everybody thinks we are crazy. That we can try new things without being ashamed. That we don’t have to be in parenthood alone and that we are one half of a team as a family. And that you don’t have to give up ourselves to be the mother, the wife, the daughter that we want to be.

Kudos Jessica.

I’m a big Jessica Peterson fan, with the Charleston Heat series being another of the author’s series that has had me addicted throughout. Each time I finish a Charleston Heat book, I find myself desperate for more. Thus, I jumped right into Southern Heartbreaker.

Although I have loved all the Charleston Heat books, Southern Heartbreaker is my favourite. All the Charleston Heat books have been strong four-star ratings, but there were points when this one was a five-star rating. I’m super picky about my five-star reads, and it’s why I rounded down this four-point-five-star rating. Most, however, will have no problem giving this the five-star rating. It’s a story that hooks you from the start, ensuring you cannot put it down.

With Southern Heartbreaker, Jessica Peterson gives us chemistry that jumps off the page from the start. I wore a stupid smile throughout the entire book, a smile that grew larger at certain points. I loved the characters, I loved their story, and I could not put the book down. I had to complete it in a single sitting, unable to take time away from it. It consumed me in the best way possible, and I could not get enough.

Not only did we get a wonderful standalone story, we also got to see more of the characters from the prior books along with receiving a glimpse of what I hope will be the next story Jessica Peterson writes. There was so much to love with everyone in this story, ensuring you get your fix of the series.

The reason I opted to round down was that things lulled a little bit when we were dealing with the issues the characters faced. Jessica Peterson writes stories that deal with very real issues, doing so well, pulling you into the character’s lives. With the chemistry being so off the charts with this one, when we were dealing with the issues the characters faced, it felt like a huge change. Things were really well done, as always, but the intense chemistry dropped a bit at those points.

Overall, Southern Heartbreaker was another wonderful read from Jessica Peterson. It’s easily my favourite of the Charleston Heat series, and it has me eager for more.

What do I think? Well, I think I love growly Southern Gentlemen and Jessica Peterson writes them perfectly.

I love Ford and his growly, bossy streak. His love for his daughter is a beautiful thing, as is his support for the rest of his family. His support for brother Grey and Sister-in-law Julia and their new baby son is unparalleled, but it's his support of Eva that is truly amazing and reading her struggle to come to terms with her own feelings is painful. I feel her pain because I've been there, slightly different circumstances but similar decisions that needed to be made.

Jessica wrote their story with compassion and understanding.

I loved this story.

Southern Heartbreaker ... I think NOT! So the story goes that these two dated in college (sophomore to senior year). They were hot and heavy artsy types and then he changed and became corporate and dropped her like a hot potato without warning because she wasn’t “ambitious” enough. Fast forward ten years and he is widowed with a kid and is meeting his college girlfriend again. During the 10 years he was away from her he apparently met someone just like him, “his partner in crime,” they had a daughter, and then she died. The daughter is 4 and now he’s getting back out there and dating.

The whole scenario doesn’t work. He treats her like dirt and ten years later after he’s all corporate, been married, and has a kid now he wants to try again with her and of course she’s a doormat and ready to just drive right back in with him. NO 👎🏽👎🏽

This whole Southern series sucks!

Y’all!!! This Book! Author Jessica Peterson has, once again, set the bar higher! She takes us directly into the heart of not only Charleston, but of the characters Ford and Eva as well.

Ford is a suited, tatted, single, hot dad…a DILF, actually…
“You run a company. You’re a single parent. How the hell do you stay in such great shape?”
“5 a.m. workouts. It’s the one thing I try to do for myself on a daily basis. Helps me stay sane.”
“And hot. It helps you stay really hot. I hate to use this term because, well—it is what it is. But Ford, you are a total DILF.”

Eva is a cook-book writer, blogger, and chef…struggling to write her next book, and decidedly against having children…and still broken hearted about the way Ford broke her heart 10 years ago.
Ford was my first everything. First boyfriend. First love. First guy I slept with.
He was also my first real heartbreak. The kind that doesn’t leave you. Took me years to get over him.

Between the characters, the storyline, the sexting, the innuendos, and the phrases Jessica used in this fourth book in the Charleston Heat series…Good God!!!! I highlighted MANY passages in this book!

I just know this man makes me feel things I haven’t felt in a very long time.
Confident. Inspired. Safe.
Safe, not in the sense that everything is going to be okay. But safe in the sense that I’ll be okay even if everything else isn’t.

There was so much emotion and heart in this book! I felt the character’s feelings, I pictured every scene, I had tears of heartbreak (literally!) and tears of happiness. I laughed, I cried (real tears, y’all!)…I just enjoyed this book so very deeply! The humor…OMG! The humor in this is fantastic!

Is sex on the first date too much, too soon? Asking for a friend.

I love the continuation of Olivia’s writing with “My Marriage to the Marquess”, the boat scene, the heat between Ford and Eva…and of course, Bryce, Ford’s 4 year old daughter. The way author Jessica Peterson wrote this potential “step-parent” situation was so deep and realistic!

“…You don’t have to be perfect to be a good parent, Eva. You don’t have to be perfect to deserve anyone’s love. Not Bryce’s, not Ford’s. Not your family’s. You just have to be there.”

Soooooo….to sum up my review of Southern Heartbreaker…I can’t tell you enough how much I adored this book! It hasALL THE FEELS! It is an emotion-filled, entertaining, dual POV, second-chance, southern small-town, piece of perfection! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could…but since I can’t, Southern Heartbreaker is a solid 5 star read from me!

Southern Heartbreaker will touch your heart, mind and soul. This book may make you think about areas of your own life. Although, it’s a romance and in the single dad genre, it is so much more. Yes, you get the romance, you get the smiles, you feel the love, ( boy do you feel the love), you get the heat (woohoo), along with the heart stopping moments good and bad. What you really get is a story that could be so true to life. Both Eva and Ford’s stories, individually and together could be anyone’s real life story. How we have dreams of our own or allow others to influence our dreams. Our lives start to take form from the moment we’re born and evolve. We think we determine our own destiny but do we really? We’ve allowed people to shape us, even without their knowledge or expectation because we’re always watching and listening and determine what they think. Then we decide what is is they want for us without even communicating with them. Many times it’s not accurate. We’ve jumped to wrong conclusions. Here’s the thing we have the ability to stop, change and really decide what we want and change again and again. This book brings that and so much more to the forefront. The story will zing your heart and stay with you long after you’re done reading it. There’s so much memorable dialogue and sweet memories but you need to read the book and check it out for yourself. You don’t need or should want me to give you those details. Experience this for yourself.
It took me a bit to write this review because I had to figure out what the most important part was to me. Let me tell you Ford is swoony, smart, a little bad (in a good way) and is the guy most girls dream about but he’s had his own issues that have shaped him to the man he is today. Eva, of course is pretty, smart, has been through the wringer and is a perfectionist. She has a goal and is determined to get there. I have to admit at first I got just a little annoyed at times. Then I realized, she could be me, different set of issues but the same. Talk about changing your opinion of someone. All of a sudden I really liked her because I identified with her. We also get to meet up with past characters from the series. This is always a good thing. If you haven’t read them don’t worry. This is a standalone but I’d advise you to read the series. Each book brings something new to the table.
Ok I’ve gone on way too long! This is a book that deserves to be read. You may even find a little of yourself within these pages. Meanwhile enjoy Charleston I always do!

P.S.- Please don’t stop at the end read the authors Thank You.

It's always a pleasure to read an ARC from Jessica Peterson and Southern Heartbreaker did not disappoint. The characters are so well written and three-dimensional. Their struggles and fears are relatable.
Ford is the almost perfect single dad and his honesty and integrity mean that you never end up hating him for breaking Eva's heart in college. When their worlds collide again, he seizes the opportunity to earn a second chance with the woman he let slip away. But life has led them on different paths with different dreams and goals and one particularly sticky issue in the form of Ford's adorable four-year-old daughter Bryce.
Eva has hustled and worked her butt off to achieve her goals since college and the heartbreak that shook her world. But her experiences have shaped her to believe that motherhood means sacrificing yourself until there is nothing of your dreams left. It's interesting watching Eva evaluate her choices, comparing them with the people around her when she moves back to Charleston. Sometimes I struggle with characters who have wildly different beliefs than my own and Eva has a very different opinion on motherhood than I do. That being said, the character was written in such a beautiful, honest way that she was a joy to read and I was genuinely invested in her journey and rooting for her to make the best decisions for herself and not anyone else. It was wonderful to see Ford support her on that journey instead of trying to persuade her to make choices that would benefit him.
This book covers a very brave topic that is immensely personal to women everywhere. Society assumes that you will have children, but what about those women who aren't sure? What about those women who can't? This book tackles the opinions of motherhood wonderfully and with genuine sensitivity.
This book has all the feels but it's also super hot with a very healthy dose of dirty. What's better than a hot, perfect, compassionate, loving single dad? One with a dominating streak and a very filthy mouth...and talented tongue...y'all, Ford is HOT.
I can't recommend this book enough, definitely 10 smokin' hot stars.

Oh Jessica! What. Have. You. Done. To. Me? I was blessed to beta read the 4th installment in the hot and steamy Charleston Heat series and I have two words: Ford Montgomery. I mean this man is delicious to the core. I have loved each series that Jessica has done, but the Charleston Heat series has completely stolen my heart. Each book in this series has tackled sensitive topics with both maturity and grace. Southern Heartbreaker is no exception. Ford Montgomery is a single dad (trope catnip for me) raising his spirited, young daughter Bryce. If being a single dad wasn't a full time job, throw in running a wildly successful venture capitalist firm too. Balancing the two, while also making time for himself has been the ultimate juggling act which has left little time for romance. Then, Eva Lacy, THE ONE, walks back into his life. She was his everything. His friend, his lover, his world. Until, he broke her heart. Now its ten years later, and that sexy, independent girl that loved 90’s R & B and kissing him senseless is back in Charleston and turns his world on its head. Their chemistry is just as intense as it always has been; their draw undeniable. But they are not the same young, carefree kids they were in college. Ford is focused on raising his daughter and Eva on continuing to build her career. Will the fates be kind to these star-crossed lovers and will they have their happily ever after? As always, Jessica brings lots of laughs, lots of love and lots of heart to this book. She has a knack for world building and character development that draws you in and makes you want to grab a drink and hang out for a while. And in case you were wondering, some familiar characters from the series make an appearance to catch us up a bit on their lives. 5 stars!

Another amazing installment in the Charleston Heat series. Ford and Eva have chemistry on top of chemistry. It’s a great second chance/ single dad read. Eva moves back to town and sparks fly. Eva may try to fight it, but you can’t fight the universe. Ford with his daughter Bryce is absolutely precious. She’s one of my favorite children characters ever. No one could resist that. Not only is this a great romance, but there are several very important life lessons sprinkled in. Definitely read this one, and if you haven’t read the first three then do that too.

Another swoon worthy installment in the Charleston Heat series. While this is book 4, it can absolutely be read as a standalone.
In Southern Heartbreaker we accompany Ford and Eva on their journey back together; after 10 years of living separate lives. Ford and Eva were college sweethearts, however went their separate ways after graduation. Fast forward 10 years and they find themselves back in their hometown and the dormant feelings resurface as they see each other frequently in their friends and family circle. Many things happened in 10 years - Ford is now a single parent, widower, with a 4 year old daughter and Eva has build a career as successful pit-master and food blogger.
There are many competing priorities as they try to reconnect, self doubts and vulnerabilities to overcome.
Will they be able to slow down enough to find their way back to each other?
Ford is my favorite Charleston Heat hero so far. His dedication to his little girl, his steadfast leadership in his venture capital firm and the way he bares his soul to the woman he loves...swoon!!!
If you like your romance on the steamy side, you will not want to miss Southern Heartbreaker!

Oh how I loved this one! Stories like this make my reader heart happy! This is the kind of book that had me smiling and sighing the whole way through. Jessica turned me into a fangirl with the first Southern book and this series just goes from strength to strength.

I'm a sucker for a single dad book. They always grab me. Well Ford - he's Single Dad Gold! Single Dad Perfection. And Eva - she's a firecracker who's brave enough to be a little broken too. Add in the chemistry he shares with Eva & holy panties on fire I'm a happy girl. Ford gives good dirty talk, like Oscar worthy kinda dirty talk... Ensure hubs, boyfriend or BOB with fresh batteries is available while reading!

“On your knees,” he growls, straightening. My body cries out at the loss of his touch.
I blink. “What?”
He’s working at the tie of his board shorts with swift, sure fingers.
“You heard me. I want you to get on your knees."
“But I’m—”
“Remember how good it would be?” He looks at me. “When I’d make you wait?”

I. JUST. LOVE. HIM!!!!

Special mention of the fact that the author yet again kept the love story "real". I think it's one of my favourite aspects of her writing. The characters are flawed, their relationships feel genuine and the HEA is often hard won.

I received an arc of this book.

Southern Heartbreaker is the fourth book in the Charleston Heat series. I absolutely without question loved this book! Ford, Eva and especially Bryce were everything I didn’t know I needed. These three captured my heart—and I don’t want it back.

Eva is a strong independent woman with goals and dreams. She’s accomplished, but there’s much more she wants to strive for. Her sole focus is her career, but that just might be changing after spending time with Ford, the one man who meant so much.

Ford is a single dad and a successful venture capitalist. He has a lot on his plate and at times it’s hard to juggle everything. And even though it’s a struggle, there’s nothing he would change. But when he sees Eva for the first time in ten years it has him wanting to make room in his life for her as well.

Eva and Ford’s chemistry is undeniable. Even after ten years that pull and attraction is still there. Their reunion had me grinning like a fool. I wanted nothing more than for them to have their second chance. It wasn’t easy—they had to work things out, but everything they went through was worth it. I loved Eva and Ford’s friendship as much as their romance. I loved how supportive Ford was of Eva and how he was there to help her in any way she needed it. And the love Ford has for his daughter Bryce is everything. Their relationship is so adorable and it was cuteness overload. I just loved everything about Eva, Ford and Bryce. They definitely made the perfect little family.

Southern Heartbreaker brought all the warm and fuzzy feelings. And it most definitely pulled at my heartstrings. It was heartfelt, beautiful, empowering and just downright enjoyable. With every book that Jessica writes in this series it’s evident how much my heart yearns to travel to Charleston. The imagery and the vividness she paints just makes me want to book a flight ASAP. I honestly can’t get enough of this series and its characters—I never want it to end.

5 Star Review Southern Heartbreaker (Charleston Heat #4) by Jessica Peterson

Jessica Petersen is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is. I enjoyed her style of writing and when time permits I will be looking at her other books. Southern Heartbreaker is a second chance at love story with characters I found easy to fall for.

Not having read the other books in the series I was a tad concerned that I might be a little lost since this is book four but there was no need to worry.

Ford Montgomery broke Eva Lang’s heart and she has never really gotten over him. When she runs into him again it is obvious that the attraction still burns bright between Ford and Eva.

Eva has sworn off having children Eva is shocked when she sees how great a single dad Ford is to his 4 year old daughter Bryce and she begins to question her decision.

I fell hard and fast for Ford whilst Eva is one of those women that I could easily see as a friend. She is feisty, sassie, independent and focused and I loved her. I was also intrigued by the recipes and meals mentioned throughout the story and will be searching them out, they sound delicious.

I keep saying it, but y'all: these books just keep getting better and better! I needed Ford and Eva's story as soon as I finished Southern Gentleman, and good Lord.. these two did not disappoint!!

Ten years ago, Ford broke Eva's heart when they graduated college. She's dated some since then but has never found anyone who came close to making her feel the way Ford did. She has spent her time and energy as a blogger (back before everyone was doing it) a cookbook author, and trying to hold her parents failing marriage together. She's come back home to hopefully find some inspiration for her new book, when she runs into Ford at Julia and Grey's baby shower.

Ford has always regretted how he ended things with Eva and the cruel things he said. When he broke her heart he ended up breaking his own, and started comparing her to every woman he dated after her. He's surprised that after all this time, the explosive chemistry and that undeniable pull is still between them. They spend more time together after the baby shower and I absolutely love how Ford sincerely apologises to Eva for all the hurtful words he said to her-- words that she has carried around with her every since. I also love how she forgave him when she realized how sincere he was, and how grown-up Ford is so different than the boy she used to know. (I also loved how they didn't let that be the reason why that they weren't together now. That dealt with the issue from the past and moved on. That's so rare in romance novels, and real life!!)

It becomes clear that these two were always meant for something big, but there's just one thing holding Eva back: Ford has a daughter, and she absolutely doesn't want kids. She's seen first hand that her mother has to sacrafice her own dreams for her kids and the husband that barley acknowledges her existence, and Eva doesn't ever want to feel trapped like that. She wants to fulfill her every dream she has in her life without feeling like she's settling. Even though this disappoints Ford, he gets it. And the kicker? He doesn't judge her or try to persuade her to change her mind. HALLELUJAH in a bag pipe. Men, take notice of that. Women should not have children just because society tells us from an early age that we're supposed to want to experience the beauty of raising kids. Not every woman wants that, and that's totally ok. If she chooses later in life to have kids, more power to her, women shouldn't have to be guilted into having kids, and Ford GETS that. That is just so damn refreshing.

Eva brings out a side to Ford that he forgot existed: fun. Being a single parent, running a company, and keeping himself functioning is more than most can handle, but he's determined that Bryce (his four year old daughter) knows that all is hard work is for her, and how much he loves her. Even though he genuinely loves being a parent, be acknowledges that it's exhausting, thank-less, and you rarely have any time for yourself. Eva makes him realize that he's still a man, and even though he loves his life, he can still put some of his needs first too. They embark on just having 'fun' with each other, since Eva doesn't want to be a parent, and doesn't want to break three hearts in the process if she were to choose to walk away, but we all know how these situations turn out, right? Just after one day of sailing, good conversation, fun, and *fun*, the more they both realize that the way they felt back in college is not only resurfacing, but is greater than they ever experienced. But with how incredibly busy they both are (seriously, it's insane) will Eva be able to trust her heart enough to want to live the rest of her life with Ford and Bryce, or will she worry that she'll end up like her mother and her dreams will always be pushed to the side? You'll just have to read in order to find out! ;)

There's so many things I absolutely LOVED this book. I had the intention of just reading a little bit while I had some time, but before I knew it, I was 40% in and could NOT put this book down!! Jessica always sucks me in with her words, and how amazing each one of her characters are. I loved both Ford and Eva, and little Bryce was just adorable!! I touched on this in my review of Southern Gentleman, but I am so amazed by how authentic this author is about parenting, and all the feelings it comes with it. I have two small terrors -- I mean children-- myself and I related to how both Ford and Eva felt. And let me tell you: the sex screens in this book are SO HOT. Especially the sexting scene. Whew!!
Seeing all of our amazing characters from the precious books, and the snippets we got from Olivia's new historical romance was another thing that was just amazing. Here's hoping that Eva's sister and her grumpy beau get a story of their own, because I'm not ready to leave this world!!

I can't stop gushing about these books, but don't just take my word for it: go out and buy these books so you can experience first hand why Jessica Peterson is one of my favorite authors!!

**I I received an advanced copy of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

Really loved Ford and Eva's story!

Eva is a strong, smart woman determined to make her own way in the world writing cookbooks that honor her cultural heritage. Ford is a smoking hot, single dad trying to get over his wife's death. Eva and Ford were college sweethearts and meeting again at Julia and Grey's baby shower can't rekindle an old flame..or can it? He broke her heart, broke her, the day and the way that he broke up with her all those years ago.

Despite the baggage they both carry and all the reasons "why not" , their chemistry is off the charts and it challenges Eva to rethink her mostly deeply held convictions. Not going to say anything more except that you've got to read this book!

It can be read as a standalone but you will meet so many wonderful Jessica Peterson characters from her Charleston Heat series that you will want to go back and read the previous three books in this wonderful series.

Southern Heartbreaker is a sweet and sexy second chance romance. Jessica Peterson has delivered once again, with a story that a lot of women can relate to. This was a fantastic read filled with an entertaining cast of characters, strong friendships, family, romance, and a whole lot of heart and heat.

Eva and Ford’s chemistry is undeniable. Even after ten years that pull and attraction is still there and I wanted nothing more than for them to get their second chance. And I loved Eva and Ford’s friendship as much as their romance. Jessica’s writing in this story was so impeccable that I felt every bit of the intense love Eva and Ford shared. I was fully immersed and hooked in their story. All of the emotions throughout felt real and raw.

Southern Heartbreaker was yet another wonderful read from Jessica Peterson. It’s easily my favourite of the Charleston Heat series, and it has me eager for more from this world.

I really loved Ford and Eva's story! Ford is Eva's first love and their chemistry is still off the charts years later. She can't forget though, that Ford broke her heart when they were in college. He also has an adorable four year old daughter, and kids are not something that Eva wants. She doesn't want to give up her dreams. But dreams can change, right? She is suddenly wondering if she would be able to juggle her career and be a stepmother to Bryce, if she decided to try relationship with Ford again. Is Ford ready to introduce a new woman to his daughter? Can he risk her getting attached if Eva ever changes her mind? This was a great story! I love this village of characters! I can't wait to read more!

Y'all need this story in your life!! Southern Heartbreaker was absolutely amazing!! If I didn't have to sleep or go to work, I would have finished this story in one sitting, as Ford and Eva were downright addicting!! The dirty dancing, the boat ride, the sexting (hot AF!)….these two were just burning up my kindle!! Add in appearances from all the Charleston Heat couples and one adorable 4 year old girl - I just don't know how this story could have been any better. Loved every minute of it, and I still have a smile on my face thinking about it. It's single dad/second chance awesomeness – one of my absolute favorites of 2019!

I love these books but I wish there was a little less flannel. Some of the inner thoughts go on for page after page and it's pretty repetitive. When it's good though, it's fantastic.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Holy smokes did I devour this book! It checked all of my boxes: sexy characters, hot romance, food, single daddy, cute kids, flawed yet awesome family and friends! From start to finish, the story was engaging, relatable, humorous, poignant, and so hot, I just had to stop for a bit and take a breath!

Ford and Eva may just be the best couple yet in this series. They are not perfect but they are perfect for each other!

I’m so glad I found Jessica’s books and this series. I just can’t wait for what she comes up with next!

Ford and Eva bring all the feels!!! A second chance / single dad romance that brings the heat…in the kitchen and out. Add in an adorable four year old who helps make step parenting look easy and you have the perfect combination of sweet, hot and sexy. I love love love the way Ford and Eva want this relationship so much that they think it has to be perfect and when they realize that the relationship only has to be perfect for them….amazing! Watching both Ford and Eva transform made this story for me!
I can’t wait for more from Ms. Peterson!!!

Southern Heartbreaker is book 4 in the Charleston Heat series but each can be read as a stand-alone.

Another great book from Jessica Peterson.

I loved Ford so much and Eva was the perfect match for him. He was so swoony.

So if you love A second change, single dad romance with all the feels, then this is the book for you.

Good gracious this is one heck of a book. This book has my favorites....a hot, sexy single dad and a second chance at a HEA. The chemistry between Ford and Eva is off the charts! There are so many things I loved about this book including the most adorable lil 4 year old girl! This book has a lot of great life advice sprinkled throughout but probably my favorite is that spending quality time with family isn’t about being perfect it’s about being present.
