The cleaning bots have barely finished scraping the last ambassador off the walls when Nancy and her slimy companion arrive at Spaceport Gail. She hadn’t planned on bringing her old pal Reemer, but the cheeky alien slug pushed hard for another adventure—a little too hard.
Delving into Reemer’s motivation takes a backseat when Nancy’s empathic abilities go haywire and turn delicate mining negotiations into a political minefield. Luxene crystals from an abandoned moon promise to revolutionize faster-than-light travel, but at a cost. The moon’s ruins hold secrets that could spell disaster and attract unwanted attention from a powerful elder race. Caught between gooey pranks and planetary war, Nancy discovers someone’s setting her up as a scapegoat. And surviving slimeageddon just went to the top of her to-do list.
Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia had perks: Six (count 'em 6!) TV channels, specialty SciFi & Fantasy shows like Gene London and Dr. Shock, and plenty of paperback books. I've been addicted to reading fantastic stories since eighth grade. There's little better than hunkering down with a good book (or audio book), entering the world of "what-if," and unleashing your imagination and creativity with every turn of the page. I am thrilled to share some my stories and hear your thoughts. Visit me at www.JimSteinBooks.com, and as always, happy reading!
Jim Stein’s hunger for stories transporting the reader to extraordinary realms began under one meager bulb, a towel stuffed beneath his door to avoid parental censure. He huddled with Tolkien, Asimov, and all the greats and unknowns plucked from the drugstore shelves to spin tales of the imagination. After writing short stories in school, two degrees in computer science, and several decades as a Naval officer, Jim has returned to his first passion. He writes speculative fiction advocating the underdog and embracing protagonists with strong moral fiber, often overlaid with supernatural elements and a few dark twists. Jim lives in northwestern Pennsylvania with his wife, Claudia, and his muse, Marley the Great Dane.
Fast forward Alice in Wonderland and you get strange creatures in even stranger places. This sci-fi fantasy has multidimensional creatures and a rare human who communicate and interact in a convincing manner. We met Reemer the humorous if not mildly revolting slug on Planet Fred. Together with botanist Nancy they are off on another adventure involving powerful energy crystals being illicitly mined for nefarious reasons. The tech talk was at times overwhelming for me but there was plenty in the story to keep me entertained.

The worldbuilding is still inventive, the anonymous body count is high, and the non-humans are fascinating. Ziggy and Emmett are wonderful characters, Reemer is hilarious, and Nancy does her best, while she tries to deal with terrible guilt over the events on Planet Fred. I wasn't sure about reading Nancy's further adventures, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the interesting inhabitants of the station.
Nancy and Reamer, the mismatched human and space slug duo, reunite for a rollicking adventure involving peace negotiations between warring factions over a moon, a missing ambassador, and a baby AI Robot suffering from an identity crisis. As fun as the first novel, Spaceport Gail does not disappoint!
