Yes, you see that right. Another Laura Greenwood novel. I really can't even imagine how many hours a day she spends writing, editing and coming up with new story ideas or new plots for her already existing characters. However, I love it! Especially the Egyptian Mythology inspired ones, since they're so unique. I was therefore happy when BookSprout let me know that this book was available!

I love how the world and mythology keeps on growing during this series. Although we only spend time in one temple (which makes me curious about the other temples and the adventures characters would have there) it still feels like we learn something new every book. This time our heroine gets a new task and it tells us much about the family's involvement when it comes to funerals in this world.

We also see in this installment what the consequences are of our heroes asking for help and an investigation of the temple. More and more people are fired and the ones who can stay have more and more work to do. I love how something that seemed so good and so right can have consequences that are not that much fun. Which doesn't make the original choice less good or right.

I also like how the relationship between our heroes is developing and how they communicate so openly with each other. Greenwood is one of those authors always writing healthy relationships and it's a breath of fresh air in a world of dark heroes, who are amazing on paper but not so great in real life. It's impossible not to root for a happy ending for these two!

I can't wait for the next installment.

Ani is given another task she is not prepared to do but because of her Blessed status she is given the task of organizing along with performing a funeral for a higher class family. With all of this going on at the same time as the mysteries of the temple coming to head, Ani is having to trust her abilities and pushed past her comfort zone to get the jobs done while serving Anubis to her utmost capabilities within her personal beliefs.

It sounds like Creator of the Curse by Laura Greenwood is an engaging and immersive read, especially for those who enjoy Egyptian mythology and temple politics. The story appears to center on Nik and Ani, two characters navigating the challenges of their roles within the Temple of Anubis, especially after Nik's father is suspended as High Priest.

Ani's journey is particularly compelling—going from uncertainty to a trial-by-fire experience in organizing a funeral on her own, only to realize that it's not the path she wants to take. The difficult family she deals with likely adds drama and tension to the plot. Meanwhile, the corruption in the temple and the search for a new High Priest suggest intrigue and political maneuvering, which keeps the stakes high.

The division of labor between Ani (funerary priest) and Nik (incinerator) seems to emphasize the rigid structures within the temple and possibly foreshadows how their paths will evolve. The fact that they both end up working at the House of Life after Ani's complaint hints at a shift in their storylines—possibly one that leads to greater personal and professional growth.

Overall, this book seems to blend historical fantasy with mystery and character-driven storytelling. If you enjoy Egyptian mythology mixed with intrigue and character development, it sounds like a great read.

Ma’at’s Temple’s investigation is in full force and the Temple of Anubis is in chaos. Priests and priestesses are overwhelmed with duties as their numbers continue to dwindle. When Ani and Nik started their investigating they had no idea that the corruption was so widespread. All of them are exhausted and a bit dispirited. Just as Ani and Nik get a small break and are assigned a relatively light duty Ani is requested for planning a funeral for a high profile family read difficult even though she’s no idea how. Amidst the chaos and confusion of the ongoing audit there is a lot of personal growth. The relationship between Ani and Nik, the friendships they’ve formed and even career growth as they all earn respect for the hard work they’ve done.
I rather enjoyed this story a lot. Through the position of funeral director that Ani must take on we got to see some of all the temple functions and I think we can all relate to her frustrations with the family. While this is still a book about a Blessed Priestess of Anubis it was so much more about her personal development journey. Less crazy hijinks for Nik and Ani but a most enjoyable read nonetheless. Eagerly await the next installment of their story!.

Oh, the drama continues! In "Creator of the Curse," book 6 of "The Apprentice of Anubis" series, Laura Greenwood once again proves she's the queen of fantasy intrigue. The temple is in absolute disarray as the ongoing investigation—sorry, “audit”—throws everything into chaos. With priests getting the boot left and right, it’s up to our girl Ani and the rest of the crew to hold it all together.

Ani’s juggling act just got a whole lot trickier with new, increasing responsibilities and the ever-present troubles following Nik, thanks to his dicey status as the former High Priest’s son. Add in her family drama, and you’ve got yourself another page-turner that’s impossible to put down.

Greenwood’s talent for creating such a vivid, enchanting fantasy world shines brighter than ever in this installment. She hooks you with every twist and turn, leaving you begging for more. If you haven’t caught up with Ani and Nik’s adventures yet, you’re seriously missing out.

Buckle up, because book #7 is on the horizon, and if "Creator of the Curse" is anything to go by, we’re in for another wild ride! Get ready to be swept off your feet and glued to the pages. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

An alternative Egyptian history in a Londonian urban fantasy

I have loved Egyptian stuff since I saw pictures of pyramids in National Geographic magazine in kindergarten.
I’ve been a literary Anglophile since mid-elementary school when I started reading Dickens.
As for alternative histories…welcome to the creative world of the ADHD brain.

And the author rolled them all up into a series. I received this book as an ARC before I started at the beginning. I’ve read quite a bit of this author’s works to know that I don’t want to miss any opportunities for more.
This book includes a synopsis of what happened in the previous book (‘Priestess of the Tombs’) as well as a link to background prior to this series (THANKS!).

Will definitely continue to read more in this world and by this author.

When Nik’s father gets fired as high priest, he finds himself the target of others in the temple. Everyone’s workload gets heavier as more priests are fired. Ani and Nik’s mentor, Hori, assigns them to do some paperwork, creating the tomb curses, to give them a break from burnout. Ani’s Blessed sense is a definite help in this task and they have a brief respite. Unfortunately, Ani gets called away to plan a funeral for a wealthy family. Without a high priest available, her Blessed status makes her the highest ranking official. She finds dealing with the family to be a challenge especially as the members disagree on all the aspects. She continues to doubt her abilities. Hori assigns Nik to be her assistant, a position that he takes to quite well.

Another page-turner in the Apprentice of Anubis series. Ani continues to grow in her role as Anubis’ Blessed Priestess. Her doubts and fears as she gets thrust into duties she hasn’t been prepared for are realistic. The friendship between her and her fellow apprentices are a strength in the story, as well as her relationship with Nik. These are characters who talk through issues rather than let them fester. Ani faces some familial challenges when her mother implores her to leave the both the temple and Nik. Watching her defend her choices is inspiring.

While the investigation continues, and even more priests are fired, those left are being hard pressed to keep the Temple of Anubis running efficiently and effectively. Ani is assigned to funeral planning duty where she is dealing with members of a high-profile family some of them very difficult to work with. Fortunately, Nik is able to assist her with the work and she manages to get everything done.
These are absolutely wonderful characters, and I enjoyed reading how Ani and Nik are coping with the changes brought about by the investigation. I’m enthralled by the fascinating world created by this author and look forward to reading more of this series. I think this is a must-read book and series.

The Apprentice Of Anubis #6

With the temple of Anubis being audited and lots priests being fired there is a staff shortage causing more work for Ani, Nik and their friends. She is then asked to run a funeral for a high ranking family, and organising every element of the mummification, tomb, funeral and feast.

I really enjoyed this as it’s interesting to read about the different parts of Egyptian culture but in the UK in a modern setting. Ani and Nik are more comfortable in their relationship as well adding some lovely moments of humour to the story.

In Creator of the Curse, we see Ani, Nik, and their friends dealing with the ongoing fallout from the investigation by the temple of Ma'at. Ani and Nik's romance is a bright spot in all the chaos, and the combination of everything makes this book hard to put down. I love how smoothly the author integrates ancient Egyptian customs and beliefs into a modern day setting. It's a refreshing and unique combination. I highly recommend Creator of the Curse, and the whole Apprentice of Anubis series to fans of urban fantasy who enjoy Egyptian mythology.

A great installment in the series. The action in the overall plot arc about the corruption in the Temple of Anubis is still very engaging, with many of the priests being fired and the remaining priests working even harder to keep things running smoothly. Ani is proving herself to be a very competent worker, and she is able to take on bigger and bigger responsibilities in the Temple. We get less of the detailed mummification processes, and more of the political aspects of how the Temple is run in this book, which is very informative and interesting. I do not envy Ani in this book. While Ma'at's priestess' and priests fire people left and right, Ani is thrown in the deep end. Since she is Blessed she's pretty much the highest ranking available priestess or priest at the temple. As such Hori has her complete a full funeral. Not just the Opening of the Mouth but ALL of the arrangements and dealings with the family. Sebu was a horrible cheapskate of a man. Tey won most battles but she didn't win the war which made Ani sad but she couldn't do anything about it. The book ended on a high note and per usual I patiently await the next book

First off, great read again. I am loving this series big time.

Ani is working way above her 'pay grade' but she's rockin it as well as can be expected I guess. Nik is the best bf that anyone can ask for. The temple keeps losing people, left and right, but an end is in sight, hopefully.

Ma'at priestresses have to be done their investigation soon... right?

Ani is tasked with the organization start to finish of a major funeral, how will it turn out? Does she have it in her?? We shall see...

The junior priests are currently occupied with embalming the excess number of bodies, leaving Nik to handle the incinerator duties. Ani is feeling pressure when tasked to organize a funeral for a well-known family. Fortunately, with Nik's assistance, the funeral proceeds smoothly. This fast-paced story touches on the shortcomings of humanity, with a healthy dose of romance and a suspenseful ending. I strongly recommend it.

The audit is still going on in the Temple of Anubus. More priest are being fired. Unfortunately that means that there are less priest to do the jobs needed. Everyone is being over worked. Then Ani is asked to do the job of "funeral director". Her first clients are a family who have differing views on what they want for the deceased. Nik decides to help Ani with the funeral. Tempers are short and anger if a word away. Will the audit ever end!?
Another fantastic story.

I really like this new entry in the series. Things seem to be hectic and a bit calmer at the same time. The audit is really having an impact on everyone at the temple and Nik and Ani are struggling with their feelings after causing the investigation as well as the fall out. But I love how supportive these two and their friends are. Even during crazy times you can tell they have a great little group built up.

Because of the audit being done by Ma’at’s priests there is not enough Priests left in Anubis temple to get the jobs done so everyone is doing double duty. Ani and Nic are not finding it easy with all the work that needs to be done. You don’t find out the results of the audit but you do get to know more about how a funeral is done. A easy read that takes you away for awhile.

Creator of the Curse is a wonderful addition to the series and I loved seeing Ani and Nik navigate through the Temple of Anubis as it was under investigation, Ani and Nik are busier than ever with their priestly duties and the staff is completely overwhelmed as duties pile high as staff is fired daily as mire and more corruption is uncovered. They navigate in trying times and as always find time to grow their relationship even as new challenges arise.

You actually bless curses??

The Temple is very short-staffed with so many people being caught up in the audit and the remaining priests have more duties than ever. Ani oversees every element of a high-profile funeral and it doesn’t take her long to decide she never wants to do it again. Ani and Nik are tasked with blessing the curses included with the dead. I never thought of blessing a curse! It took me completely by surprise. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

In this book, Ani and Nik are learning more of their rolls in the priesthood of Anubis. The Temple of Ma’at is currently auditing the Temple of Anubis, because Ani and Nik brought to their attention quite a few things that was stealing, blasphemy, etc. So more and more are being fired, so those who are left are exhausted doing so much more work to keep up with all of the dead.

Since Ani is the only Blessed and a lot of the upper echelon of priests are being fired, she is forced to do a ridiculous amount of Opening of the Mouth ceremonies for the dead as they are reading to be entombed. Nik keeps being sent to the incineration room, poor thing. Soooo gross! Lol

She begs Hori to give them a rotation elsewhere as they are so exhausted. So he sends them to do the scrolls of the Curses. Plus, Ani ends up having to run an entire funeral herself. I got tired for her! Lol. Sheeesh don’t forget that the process of a funeral can take up to 70 days depending on which type of mummification!

Someone gets a job as her assistant! I really loved this book and this series. It is short, but gets so much packed into it. Plus, the synopsis is just too cool! I can’t wait for the next book!.

Ani and Nik have finally found some resolution to the corruption in Anubis’ temple, but it might have created a larger problem than anyone had foreseen. My only real complaint about this series at this point is that I desperately wish the books were longer. I’m loving these characters so much and I desperately want to know even more about them. I can’t wait to see what further adventures await them.

Awesome , there’s no letting up any time soon to this brilliant series . The world is growing and with it Ani and Nik . There’s Curses and lessons to be learnt in this pageturner. Anyone who’s reading at this stage are fully immersed and invested in them all. When two worlds collide one sphinx it’s a game changer.
Well written , the descriptions wow , background story is solid

Book 6 in Ani’s Blessed Priestess series.
So the author gives the book Egyptian inspiration reason like in the previous and the summary from the previous book to segue into this story. It doesn’t seem like much happens other than a lot of angst as the priestesses of Ma’at do their Temple audit and rid out the corrupted individuals. Ani gets to plan and coordinate a funeral so there lies the interest.

I'm loving this series! Ani, Nik and the others are now priests and priestesses and are assigned a 4 bedroom flat. Shortly after moving in Ani and Nik are tasked with setting up a tomb for a newly deceased but of course nothing goes right and Nik is in trouble again! Ai and Nik's romance is also continuing and is very sweet. I highly recommend this series!.

Because Ani and Nik have uncovered the grave robbing, and body snatching the Temple of Ma'at has began firing priests for looking the other way while all of this was going on. Now Ani, Nik and the other new priests are over worked and under paid. They are having to do the work of 2 or 3 others in the same amount of time.

Family Arrangements

As the investigation continues, priests are being fired and duties are being reassigned to others who are feeling overworked. Ani and Nik must contend with family issues not only their own but a wealthy family in need of burial arrangements. I enjoyed how these two are working hard to keep the efficiency of temple duties going as well as their relationship from straining.

This is book 6 to the series and Ani and Nik are still going strong. The temple of Ma’at are still doing their audit so there’s loss of priests all over. This means increased workloads for everyone. Unfortunately for Ani our Blessed priestess she now has to preform a funeral from start to finish with a rather difficult family.

As if the ongoing audit by the Temple of Ma'at wasn't enough, Ani has to step up to fill in for some of the missing senior priests and realises that there are some parts of the priesthood of the Temple where she really doesn't want to work in the future!

(Not convinced that the title was the best choice for this book but the contents are good!)

(Working my way through the "Apprentice Of Anubis" series - this is book 6.)

Well finally Nila dad gets his just deserts the temple of maat step in and remove him from his duty and nik and ani get a lot more than they bargained for. Life is being pretty brutal to nik because of his dad’s betrayal and the priests are taking it out on him. Ani ends up arranging a funeral and is absolutely overwhelmed with it. But does the most amazing job.. loved this book they just keep getting better.
